This letter was emailed to me by my Professor from AMA Sta. Mesa and he wanted to expose what he had experienced from this school....
Please take time to read....
LIFE OF A TEACHER IN AMACC - STA. MESA
The days of a teacher in AMA - Sta. Mesa can be said to be shocking because of the following:
· The bundy clock and log-in for room keys - he or she is required to punch a card and get keys of rooms from a guard.
In any university you may have the opportunity to visit does not have this policy. The reason given by the school was
that the teacher cheats on his schedule and the students vandalize and steal from the room. It then implies that both
students and teachers are robbers and cheaters.
· Interaction with co-peers - he or she will have to adjust to 3 kind or sets of teachers:
o Lax old teacher - a teacher who has been with the school for more than 4 years - this type of teacher was hired not
for his or her qualification but for the personality.
Sta. Mesa, teacher na. These teachers feel that they know everything since the are graduates of .. courses, but
regardless of their credentials has no teaching skills. They would come to class and announces that they just eat
inside the room - Student A, maglibre ka naman, pagod ako sa trabaho, tapos magkwentuhan na lang tayo. The poor
student has no choice but to buy food for the teacher. Also, eating time is better than having classes. Another
scene, Sir or Mam, ano ang test natin sa (major exam) - a sige, next meeting review tayo bigay ko na lang ang lalabas
sa test - pati sagot Students - Hurray.. Students would certainly evaluate this teacher very high - kasi libre nga
ang grade - maski walang natutunan ang students.
o Lax new teacher - this teacher has the credentials to teach but just follows what the students wants. Sir or Mam,
ganito, etc. This teacher has no idea that he or she is just being played or sucked by the students in believing
stories that may or may not be true. By the end of the trimester, this teacher may stay or not, but students would
love him or her because he or she is a sucker.
o Strict new and old teacher - these teacher are terror. Old teacher means more than a year of stay but not more than
3 years of teaching stint in the school. They impose rules inside the class, lectures very well, have teaching skills
and very systematic in teaching the class assigned. Deadlines are imposed on assignment, quizzes and examination.
Special projects are given to lagging students. Gives chances to deserving students. However, students usually
hate these teachers because of the numerous restrictions they impose. But some students may love them because they
learn from them. They represent the quality education that some students want.
· Dealing with administration
o The teacher has to follow rules that were never explained to him or her. Orientation was never conducted, hence he
or she is expected to commit mistake and fined. The penalty imposed is P1,000.00 per mistake. The school has an
auditor whose job description was to look for mistakes. He or she gets points for every mistake that a teacher
commits (a promised promotion may be awaiting him or her). How nice for the teacher?
o IT Department - a teacher may or may not use the computer lab, however, any losses from the lab will be charged to
all the teacher. Students maybe stealing mouse balls and teachers pay for it. But, the most ridiculous and illegal
charges that a teachers has to pay was the Hard Disk that got stolen. How can a teacher who logs in and out, punches
time card, always inspected by guard steal a Hard Disk from a computer lab? This was internally investigated by the
SMART Auditor, but no police and lawyer’s investigation was made. They charged the cost of the Hard Disk to the
teacher who has no choice but to pay for whatever charges that the school mandates. Again, how nice for the teacher?
o Guidance Department - this group picks students to be their watchdogs. Students are used to do numerous tasks and
the BEST task is to snoop dirt from teachers and co-students. They instruct students to complain teachers.
The quality teacher suddenly becomes part of intrigued, complained and eventually reprimanded by the Heads from dirt
that was inimbento ng student na galit sa teacher.
o School Head - this person has the personality. The English dictionary has not created a term to perfectly describe
the person. This means the person can never described. Check your psychology notes and check if a personality will
fit? None. You will encounter the person daily and implies grandeur. A noted politician visited the school.
Booths were made for the politician to judge. The politician was so happy that he gave a whooping sum of money as
donation for the computer science students. What happened to the money? Audio visuals were bought.
But where are these audio-visual? Inside a room for personal viewing and a place for the guards to watch the latest
pirated VCDs borrowed from students who have no I.D.
You may like the personality, but the concept the person represents is that Dapat maraming enrolles. Dapat mahalin ang
students. Bawal magbagsak. This is a short term management approach - more students, more money, but no quality students.
The person calls meetings, gives sermons, but only sees the effects and not the cause. ‘Hindi alam and fishbone technique -
Ishikawa cause and effect analysis, kasi nga wala naman masterals degree.’ If you will have an opportunity to study Human
Behavior at Work, the root of all problems in the school is this person and the drastic solution is to remove the person.
o Accounting and Personnel - their simple policy is to delay the pay of teacher for the first 1 ½ month stay of a teacher.
Kasi nasa Head Office pa ang papers. Hold the last salary until cleared. Deduct the lates of the teachers from their salary.
But when a teacher has an overload they will not pay overload subject on the month it was worked on. They may pay this
after 1 or 2 or 3 trimester or maybe never. A full time teacher normally has 24 hours a week teaching hours. And the excess
of the 24 hours is called the overload hours per week. The funny thing about their policy is that, they will deduct for the
lates a teacher may have on the overload hours on the month they have worked for it, but they have not paid a single centavo
for the overload hours a teacher worked for. How nice? An extremely dedicated teacher in computer science works 35 to 26
hours per week and just gets paid for 24 hours a week. There are 2 very good teachers in computer science. They are the
In engineering, mass communication and business
administration, there used to be the super galling teacher, but sad to say left AMA - Sta. Mesa.
galling teachers always gets the highest evaluation from quality students.
· Students - a typical AMA - Sta. Mesa is makulit at mareklamo - kasi encouraged ng Guidance at Administration. Basta may
Pare, galling
ka sa AMA - Makati. Oo, kasi malupit sa Makati, dito sa Sta. Mesa madali lang daw ang thesis. AMA - Makati students find
Sta. Mesa as hard and easy? Why?
D ba may Thesis
Chairman, ano nangyayari o ginagawa niya?
The easiest way to pass
the thesis is dalhin mo ang parents mo sa Administration.
kasi binabayan natin sila quoted from a BA student.’
‘Ano nag resign ang teacher, d panalo tayo - quoted from another BA student.’
