hmm... $4000 for a DVD burner?!? I can get a Pioneer SuperDrive for a price less than that :D

yup, I heard/read it right. I know how to backup my DVD's and burn it to a CD-ROM using 'freeware' tools/apps available in the net. and yeah I burn them into VCD format, that I can play 'em on my el cheapo VCD player and even works on DVD players (galeng 'no :D ).

what do they mean about DVD format? DVD Video, DVD-ROM, DVD-R, DVD-RAM, DVD-RW, DVD+RW. or suported formats like S/VCD, CD-Audio?

a CD-R/W can burn CD discs but not DVD discs. How would you convert your VHS tapes to DVD format? maybe there's a freebie VHS player included, and a video/audio capture card bundle. ;)
