As with all other sectors of the entertainment industry, the music scene has its own share of critics. Not only in this forum does one encounter critiques of popular musical icons. We read them everyday in magazines, tabloids, newspapers and even on TV.

Critiques also come in all types of flavors, from the mellow, highly politically-correct ones ("... blahblah... this band... leaves a lot to be desired...") to the hot and perky ones ("... uh-huh-huh-huh... they really suck...").

No matter how they are said, the one thing constant is that they are only the opinions of the authors. It's just not right to attack the author personally just because you don't like the critique. It just does not work that way. For the authors, it's also not right to retaliate and launch personal attacks on whoever criticizes your opinions, or even yourself.

What you could do is engage in debate and deal with the topic at hand. Learn to attack ideas and not people.

With that, I suggest that everyone lighten up, get some air, and take time to shift perspectives. The only thing we're accomplishing here right now is leaving a bad impression to the readers. I hope we can change that.

Fans and critics are an integral part of the music culture. I guess we all have to live with it. Don't even worry about the artists who are the subject of these critiques. They of all people know that it's all part of the package.
