Where can I get ponchos? I saw Rhett Eala's Wink poncho in Cosmo magazine kaso lang ang mahal. Where can I get ponchos na affordable?

Ever After: we have the same problem. I'm thinking of having one made na lang from my friend. It might come out cheaper.

Around how much will it cost? I'm thinking of having one made rin. Do you have a pattern ba? What cloth will you use?

I'm not going to pay 2500 for that Wink poncho kahit na gustong-gusto ko. Sapatos na yun eh.

My friend is the owner of Milkwear. I was just texting with him earlier and he says he can make the Poncho for me. PM me na lang. If you want, sabay pa tayo pasukat. I'll probably find out exactly how much it will cost this week. According to him, it will definitely be cheaper than the one in Wink. I can just pattern my design from the poncho i want in wink then they can just give it a Milkwear touch! ehehehe! :D

don't you think that this poncho deal in manila is just way too popular now? when i was there, at least 5 other people were wearing it every night. would you want to wear something that 5 other people are wearing at the same place and at the same time?

it's more of a light see-through fabric(my guess, it's chiffon)...you can make it an off shoulder thing or one shoulder...

Isn't it too hot to wear a poncho in Manila? I have a poncho wrap by Burberry's, which I got brandnew through Ebay. I used it when I went to the US for the holidays. :) It has a wool type of material.

How does Rhett Eala's poncho look like in Wink? Is it made out of a thin material?

oh my bad.. didn't get to read the last post. :D gawd, P2500 for a see-through material?!?! that's expensive!! the poncho i got was $110, but it was really really thick! So I guess that's justifiable. :)

To each his own.

I think everyone will agree with me when i say that a woman has the right to wear whatever pleases her and whatever makes her feel good.

The Poncho we're talking about here is made of see through fabric...its not the thick one that people are used to. So its really ok to use even if the weather is warm.

Its not even about following a trend. Hey, If it looks good on you, then get one.

A poncho is a peice of clothing with no armholes just a hole in the middle allotted for your head.

If I'm not mistaken this was one of the fashion trends last fall/winter 1999-2000.I got a knitted white one with fringes on it.:D

I think that to keep the discussion healthy, we should not question each other's preferences in clothing. This thread was meant to get info on affordable ponchos and not to try to proselytize those who think differently from us. Fashion is all about what YOU want. nuff said. ;)

It is quite funny how many people will wear clothes they don’t like because they don’t want to be called unfashionable.
I disagree. Why PePs? Would you actually buy or wear a piece of clothing you don't like? No, right? Some people buy trendy clothes because they like it (the style, the cut, the color, what have you) without actually thinking if it will complement their body or not.

If people want to wear sheer ponchos around their bodies when it is boiling outside with 100% humidity -- who can to stop them? I can’t and no one can.
Yun naman pala eh. At least thats clear. So why did you even bother telling us this:

the weather is starting to get warm -- do you really need one? and, isn't the poncho kind of old? charlene gonzales wore this in baguio before her wedding and i saw my tita mel wear this on tv. i love her but i wouldn't really follow her example.

like tr|n|ty says, everyone is wearing it in manila nowadays. why be someone who just follows trend?

My decision to stick to classic clothing has left me looking like every other girl who I graduated high school with. And am I happy with that? Perfectly.
Classic clothing has never been clearly defined, maybe what you actually meant is basic clothing, where you can look like the next person in your high school.

No fashion maverick am I but I am happy with my choice, thank you.
And I'm pretty sure everyone here is happy with theirs. Poncho or no Poncho. :winker:

Now, can we please please please go back to the topic!

but if its see-through, damn, bring them on :naughty:

my take on fashion clothings.. heck! if you can carry the outfit well (maski one boobie hanging out like those on FTV), go ahead and wear it. am sure you can wear it better coz you feel better.

touche? :)

hey, hey, we're just sharing our opinion. let's not all get riled up here. i believe what we're trying to say is, this sort of accessory is something you use to make you stand out or make a drab outfit outstanding. but when ten thousand other people wear the same "stand-out" piece..it doesn't serve its purpose then.

bunny, in the end, yes it is your choice and to each his own.

wore one last december, for the super low price of 300 bucks.

step 1. buy chiffon cloth: 180 per yard at most cloth shops (castle, etc).

step 2. shorten cloth a tiny bit, by about 4 to 5 inches.

step 3. cut 10-inch or so hole in the upper left corner of the cloth. this is a bit tricky, but to tell the truth, i got the exact position by going to the wink store, trying one on, and studying the construction of the thing: where to cut, etc. (sorry if you consider this stealing, pero outrageous naman ang 2500, ano?!)

step 4. try poncho on, and adjust neck hole as you see fit. don't cut the hole too big dahil you can cut more naman kung masyadong masikip.

step 5. bring poncho to a reliable seamstress, for the edging. dapat magaling ang mananahi, because the edging is really tricky to do, especially for such a thin material. labor cost: 200 bucks

voila! your poncho is ready to wear, then puede mo na ibaon sa aparador afterwards.

ya, i admit, nalugi si rhett eala sa akin, pero i couldn't buy his poncho. why?
1. too ****ing expensive, and impractical

2. it's not something you can wear to every gimik. it's too noticeable, and madaling maalala. mukha ka na atang **t a n g a** kung suot mo yon every party na pupuntahan mo, devah? the most u can wear it is twice. and for something you're gonna wear only twice, please see reason #1.

3. it's a challenge to have something expensive for a much cheaper cost.

4. yup, everyone seems to be wearing one these days, if not, everyone wants to wear one. it's not cool to be at a party where there are 5 of you wearing the same thing.

5. panis na yung poncho niya because it's too simple. i attended a wedding last december where one of the ninangs wore a poncho with crystals around the edging, basically glittery ang dating, ang ganda! biglang naging poor man's poncho yung dating yung sa wink.

lessons to be learned from Rhet Eala's "poncho:"

-she who wants to wear a poncho has every right to do so
-she who thinks it's dumb/not stylish/passe to wear a poncho should not say so in a thread about where to get ponchos, but rather start her own thread entitled, "Why I Wouldn't Want To Wear a Poncho"
-you may think you're all that but this doesnt mean other people agree with you, so dont go sticking your nose where it's not wanted (you may get a very very nasty cold :rotfl: or worse, be called nasty names)

actually, ponchos are ideal for "chubby" women. they fit, look "kinda" stylish and most importantly it hides the excess fat but personally, especially here, i find that its meant for the elderly ladies. pat lola ko ayaw na daw niya isuot. kasi lalo lang daw siya nagmumukhang matanda na e.

here are the specs:
width of chiffon cloth - 34 inches
length of cloth - 53 inches

cut an opening using the following specs:
distance from the top - 8 inches
distance from the left - 12 inches
width of opening - 1.75 inches
length of opening - 13 inches

try it on after cutting. after trying it on, see if you want to make adjustments on the opening. make it wider or longer. just note that the seamstress will be sewing it pa, so the hole will become a bit larger talaga. don't cut too much, or you'll have to throw away the cloth! it's always better na kulang kesa sobra.

note when you're trying it on: chiffon cloth unravels really easily, meaning loose yung weave ng cloth, kaya nagbubuka yung weaving. you'll see na lang, i don't know how to explain it. careful na lang.

decide which side you want to have as the right side and which to have as the wrong side. (meaning alin yung nasa ibabaw, alin yung nasa ilalim). be sure to specify to the seamstress which side is the right side, para hindi "baligtad" yung tahi niya. by baligtad, i mean na nakikita yung tupi sa cloth when you wear it.

have fun!

FannyPrice
Jan 28, 2002, 05:04 AM
last detail, be sure you go to a reliable seamstress, because chiffon cloth is difficult to sew. especially na super liit dapat ng hem, like sa shawls. if she has never made a shawl before, better look for someone else. baka masira lang yung tela.
