If you have a travel history, wala kang magiging problema specially from European country, i have a friend before, she try to apply for a tourist but her travel history is only from Hongkong, nadeny pa rin siya kahit na very stable yung position niya sa company dito and at the same time she has a big money in the bank pero wala pa rin, pero mas naghigpit ngayon ang embassy bec of what happen last sept. 11,mas naging strict yata ang ibang ruling regarding visitor's visa,Nung nag-apply ako on my first visa to visit my Aunt, the reason they deny me is bec I'm single &well-educated (daw!)there's a posibility daw na baka mag-asawa ako, pero ngayon wala na silang magawa, nandito na ako eh!!!!:)

starfish07 since this is your first time to travel out of the country, i'd say it won't be very easy for you to get a visa since they're very strict with first timers. also, you are currently unemployed and hardly know anyone there! i dont want to discourage you, but an article came out the other day in PDI about a kid who needs to undergo heart surgery in NY but was denied a visa! to think the mom had all the documents, etc to prove that they will be going there for medical reasons. anyways, the kid got a visa because of all that publicity, but we digress from our topic....

hmmm, the best advice i could give you is to apply for a visa with your parents (since you are unemployed, and they could not possibly imagine that you could afford to finance your US trip on your own), and say that you will be travelling with them and that they will be financing your trip. ofcourse your parents will have to provide financial documents (employment certificates, ITR, land titles, business permits, bank passbooks, etc), that is if they dont already have a us visa. kung meron naman silang us visa they can come with you to the interview. since student ka palang, kakagraduate mo lang, you can say that this trip is your graduation gift from them. so far yan lang ang advice na mabibigay ko. i think that's your best shot. ang dami kong kilalang professionals na may mga credentials naman and all the financial papers na nadeny parin because this is their first time to go to the US. a friend of mine, galing nang Europe and Canada, muntik pang madeny. she was given only a 3-month single entry visa.

good luck and do let us know what happens! :D

I was denied a single-entry visa... they said I needed more assets... I'm still in college, but they said it doesn't matter, because I'm already 21 years old I needed to have more assets that what I already had...

you all have a point na sobrang hirap kumuha ng visa. ang alam ko dapat talaga may travel history ka. may suggestion lang ako kasi yung sister ko meron silang travel agency nag-aasist din sila ng mga first timers to have their visa. i heard from my sis the other day na galing lang siyang embassy tapos may client sya na sinamahan for the interview. ang suwerte nung client niya kasi na-approve sya agad w/o showing her bank statement. if you want, i can refer you to my sis.

i never had problems in getting a US visa. 3 times na ako kumuha. yung first 2 times, single entry lang ang binigay sa akin.
3 years ago, i was given a 10 year multiple entry visa :)

important talaga yung mga ibang visa na nakuha mo lalong lalo na yung mga european visas. i have about 10 european visas kaya halos hindi ako tinatanong sa US embassy.

Yung last time ko, they just browsed my passport and shempre nakita yung euro visas ko. They never even bothered to check other papers (konti lang ang tinignan nila) and isang tanong lang ang tinanong sa akin.

When you got these things it's a SURE SHOT

• Show Money - To assure the consul that you're just "into vacationing"

• Husband and Wife - This'll assure em that you will "return" to them after vacationing

• Business or Job - Tell em you're still employed and you'll really go back.

Good Luck.

PS Later on if you decided to be a "TNT" I'll hook you up with a hideout, job, food and shelter :D

an easy way to solve the "money thing"- ask your parents to transfer funds to your name.

get any job and ask for an employment certificate.

Before, they required at least Php 300,000,I don't know now.

No Idea.

• Business or Job - Tell em you're still employed and you'll really need to go back.

Certificate of Employment showing how long do you work and also how much is your annual income. And also certificate of leave of absence ,including how many days.

How does one renew a US visa? My US visa has been expired for 6 years na. I had a 5 yr multiple entry visa. Do they revoke US visas for non-renewal?

You can apply again thru drop-box,you don't need to undergo those interview stuff, if you want, maybe you can asked some travel agent how the drop-box work,or if you can call the US Embassy.

Right. Take it from me, I've lived in different countries on 3 continents... recently I've been flying in and out of the US for my company.

It isn't as hard as everyone says. Just be honest, and let the consuls know your real reasons for getting a visa. If you know WHY you want to go to the US then say so.

All they want is assurance that you will indeed return to the Philippines. State that your family is there and you do want to come back to them; not knowing anyone in the US can also be used to your advantage - if you don't know anyone, you have nobody to help you if you decide to stay illegally.

Just make sure you have every last detail sorted - where you will be staying, what you will be doing, airline, hotel, dates etc.

Lastly, go to your interview with confidence. Just think - YOU DO NOT INTEND TO DO ANYTHING WRONG SO THEY HAVE NO REASON TO KEEP YOU OUT. Keep this in mind, be confident and honest with them, forget about all the shite other people may have told you.

Don't let the consuls think that you have something to hide. That is the only reason you can be denied. If they do, they'll make up some stupid excuse like "you dont have enough money" or the like.

I have never been denied a visa, nor have I had one cancelled. Yes, I hold a Philippine passport.

tama si fiery_dragon, when you go for your interview, you should be confident.

when i got my visa for the first time, i went to the interview with my husband (my husband was renewing his). we really prepared, as in we brought real estate titles, bank account passbooks, certificates of employment, etc. luckily, we were asked only ONE question - why are we going to the US? we said we were going there for our honeymoon (we just got married). and that was it. we were both given 10 years multiply entry tourist visa :) the consul didn't even ask for any of the documents we brought.

i guess it really helps if you show you have nothing to hide, like what fiery_dragon says. don't look too nervous. and maybe it'll also help if you come to your interview in business attire.

Don't overdress. Somehow there's just something nouveau riche about dressing for the interview -- parang sobra kang atat magbiyahe. Reverse snobbery works, i think. Look casual, relaxed, as if travelling is no big deal to you. Same applies to the way you present yourself and answer questions during the interview, too.

Listen to what the consul asks you and answer -- as glibly as you can. My sister and I went for an interview together. She got nervous and answered in monosyllables. Denied. Since I was with her, I expected to be likewise denied - so I pretty much said to heck with it and babbled on when the consul asked me questions. I just kept on talking! Really! Eventually, umabot na sa lolo ko ang kwento -- as in far out, di ba? But somehow the consul started talking about his grandfather, too. And then he said, "Well, your sister is going to be upset with you, because i"m giving YOU a visa." so there, it pays to be talkative - sometimes. But don't lie. :) good luck!

And yes, if you do borrow money from your parents -- Make sure the money stays in your account for as long as possible. The embassy is already on to people borrowing money and putting it into their account temporarily. Kelangang mukhang matagal na ang account mo to be convincing.

Even if you do get a US Visa it is no guarantee that they will let you inside the USA already. Be prepared to get scrutinized by Immigration Officials, and interrogated too.... If you happen to go to a Looney for an Immigration Officer (Especially in Detroit where there are lots) be prepared to do a bit of Oscar Winning performances or you might end up airport to airport.

starfish07, they're right applying for U.S. visa is very hard especially in your case. You must have first at least 3 consecutive months of bank account for you to prove that you have stable life here. If you don't have this, just get sponsor who is willing to support your trip.
