What about it? Tips on where to go? It's summer here now and everyone goes to the beach. Bondi's a really popular one so be prepared for lots of ppl accidentally flicking sand in ur eyes. There are lots of clubs to go to and restaurants to eat at. You'll never be short for ideas. It just all depends on what you're into. There are lots of museums to check out as well. My pick is the Art Gallery Of NSW. It has a South East Asian art exhibit this month.

Yeah, tips on where to go :) Thanks!

How about the OPera House? Nice picture taking thingy huh?

Yeah, everyone from out of town has their pic taken at the Opera House. Even w/out the Opera House Circular Quay is still a picturesque place. There's the Rocks not far from the O.H. It has old style Sydney buildings and really cool shops. That's where the Contemporary Museum is at as well. It's free entry as is the Art Gallery of NSW unless you want to see the special exhibits they've got.

You can go shopping at the Rocks as well. They've got a tiangge-style thing on Saturdays.

reykjavik.. sydney-sider ka pala? :D i love the place and hope to live there in a few years time.

Anyway .. place with good spots? Here are my suggestions:

-Bondi and Cronulla Beach
-Maroubra (tama ba spelling?)
-Circular Quay
-Taronga Zoo
-Blue Mountains (yng 3 sisters yung attraction)
-Star City (its a casino :glee: )
-QVB (Queen Elizabeth Building) .. okay yung shopping sa basement where it connects you to other shopping malls din)
-AMP TOWER (try eating sa revolving restaurant nila)
-Opera House

There's this themepark papuntang Blue Mountains .. after Seven Hills and Blacktown .. wonderlnad? Wonder park? Forgot the name but I sure had a great time with the rides!

Try mo rin walking along Eddie Avenue .. Its a very long road but the sights are okay .. I mean for the city. :D I suggest you get a city map and do some walking. What I did was I started with Central station and went down to Market City (its a mall if I remember it right) then ikot hanggang Sydney Aquarium .. up the bridge and go towards QVB. Tas shopping... ikot .. till I reach Eddie Ave .. tas walk towards Central again. Sobrang when I got back sa house ng brother ko .. I had sore feet! :glee:

I think the theme park's name is WONDERLAND. :D
Sa food .. my gosh .. the best ang steak!!!!! And do try the CADBURY CAFE sa baba ng AMP Tower. My goooood.... tas yung milkshakes!

And I recommend you try the meat pies from Harry's Cafe de Wheels. Its along Wooloomooloo road ata. Its a meat pie topped with mashed potatoes tas mashed peas tas gravy! There's an old building there that they turned into a hotel.

I forgot but you ought to visit the Olympic Site. It's located in Homebush (or Auburn?? Some help here!). There's also some souvenir shops sa city where you can get those cute mascot stuff toys for about AU$2.00.

Wow! TheDreamer. I forgot about all the other places you mentioned. Oo nga pala. Don't just stick to the tourist spots in the city.

One thing though if you find yourself at the Rocks and you're really hungry try Phillip's Foote. It's a steakhouse where you cook your own cuts of meat. The salads are never ending and the meat is tender.

The name of the station is Olympic Park. When we went there by train from the city we had to get off at Lidcombe station to change trains.

Yeah, it became my hobby that whenever I go to Austalia, I always stop at Hog's Breath Cafe. Hmmm, nagugutom na ako doon sa mga sinasabi niyo eh....ang hirap hirap mag papayat ha? Hehehe....I'll try them all!

Oo nga pala. It's now possible to climb the Sydney Harbor Bridge so if you want to contact Bridge Climb and they'll arrange it for you. They give you a fitness test to make sure you'll safely make the climb. I haven't done it myself but apparently the view from the top is worth your $100 or so. That might be something you'd like to try.

For nightclubs try Oxford st. THat whole stretch of road has more nightclubs than you can poke a stick at. Just watch out though...some of them are gay bars so...kung hindi mo trip tingnan mo muna if there are men AND women inside before you enter. Darling Harbor has some pretty nice places like Home and Cave. I don't really go clubbing that much but those are the places my friends and I go to whenever we do.

Exchange rate is something like A$1.00 = 27 pesos or so.
US$1.00 = A$2.00

Rey.....

Read your reply on the other thread regarding the veggie restaurants and dance club. Thanks!

Also, for those who doesn't have any reservation yet, Pacific International Inn (4 1/2 star) hotel has a hot deal of AU$75. a night.

Btw, regarding the horrific fire in Sydney, did it spread through out the Blue Mountains Park?

reykjavik
Dec 30, 2001, 11:13 PM
It did. There were two fires actually: the one at Blue Mountains and the one south west of Sydney. The Royal National Park at Helensburg lost at least 75% of its trees to fire. I don't know how badly the Blue Mountains is affected.

I live in south west Sydney and from where I was, I could see the smoke billowing from the forest. There were burnt leaves falling in my suburb.

Jan 3, 2002, 06:18 PM
I agree...Be prepared for really hot weather bec. apart from the fact that it's summer here, the smoke created a kind of 'greenhouse gas' effect. Parang sa Pinas ang init. But lately the weather's been a bit milder. Hope it rains soon. Para naman makatulong sa sunog.

i've just been to Sydney and the bush fires spoiled our trip....

we never got to see the blue mountains....

medyo hazy even in the city..... AMP Tower/Centrepoint staff warn visitors na 5-6km lang visibility b4 u buy ticktets... we did buy, regardless and it was still worth it..

Canberra is approx 2 hours away lang..... no Blue Mountains kaya Canberra na lang... :D

There's a relatively new factory outlet (DFO) near Homebush... open from 10 to 6 daily.... January is a good time to go shopping in Au dahil marami post-christmas sale....

Two thumbs up for King's X!;)

Actually I live around this area,Elizabeth Bay to be exact. It's about 5 minutes walk from the red light district. It's not as bad as what other people think.Mga yuppies (ako lang yata ang hindi) kasi ang nakatira around it's surrounding suburbs like Paddington,Darlinghurst/East Sydney,Wollomooloo,Rushcutters Bay etc...

There are heaps of Explorer Buses that can take you from beaches-bays-mountains and even pubs(yep, pub tours!).Try mo din coastal walk from Coogee(makita mo yung mansion ni Mel Gibson doon...hehehehe) to Bondi Beach and along the way you'd be able to see The Waverly Cemetery.Talagang ang ganda it overlooks an ocean dunno which one though.

If you wanna see how the posh and ritzy (millionaires, even billionares)res people live in Sydney you'll be able to get a bus from Circular Quay to Double Bay,Vaucluse,Rose Bay and Watson's Bay.

Pero kung adventurous ka,pwede ka na ring mag-camping,canyoning(pero very dry yata ngayon) and caving along blue mountain areas.Meron din tandem skydiving, bungee jumping, abseiling, rafting, bushwalking, rock climbing.Dami talagang pwedeng gawin. You can even learn to ride a horse at Centennial Park.Kung gusto mong mag-paintball meron din sa Ross Hill kaya lang sakit sa buong katawan...hehehe...For $480 you'll enjoy a full day go-karting (my fave) at Eastern Creek.

Anyways,that's all for now.

xyzseaman
Jan 5, 2002, 12:54 AM
Paintball? Karting? Skydiving? Hahahah! Anyway, magkano *** sa tingin ang magagastos doon? Will $AUSD 1,500 be enough???

sweeteekything
Jan 5, 2002, 01:46 PM
Paintball=AU$250.00 or more includes mask and air rifle hire,100 paint pellets, drinks and lunch. You have to provide your own gear.Covered if possible. Some people play in nude for extra fun.:D

Karting=AU$480 for a full day less for half. You may need a drivers license for this. But I don't so it's only karting. But the last time I went they've ask for my license.

Skydiving=AU$280,tandem jump.Only one jump. You get to have have an expert stuck behind you.:DThe price includes all the safety gear, parachutes, photos, lunch. You may pay extra if you want your 'dive' to be captured on video. If you're a pro you can just hire a helicopter...hehe...

About the Bridge climb it costs around $99.00.I only did coz someone gifted me a bridge climb voucher last year. It's so much fun.

Hi There ! Bihira ako bumili dun sa Coles sa Kings X. More often than not I drive to Coles Broadway, kasi may parking. Hirap kasing magbitbit kug marami kang pinamili sa Supermarket.

I usually go to Video Ezy Potts Point to rent some DVD's. Malamang kung sa Elizabeth Bay ka nakatira yan din ang Video Store mo.

How long have you been staying in the area ? Are you living with your folks or r you renting the flat on your own ?

What a coincedence!I drive to Coles Broadway once a month to do my major grocery shopping.:DColes King X is OK for emergencies.

Video Ezy Potts Point is at Macleay St., ryt?I haven't been inside a video rental shop for more than 3 years now.:lol:Thrice a week akong pumupunta malapit sa Potts Point to get my fish n'chips fix.Alam mo yung seafood place opposite Beef & Bourbon malapit sa fountain.Punta ka du'n.$6.70 for a lunch pack.Tapos bili ka na rin ng San Miguel Beer sa Kings X Hotel...hehehe....Naalala mo ba nung promotion ng SMB kahit saan tingin mo nan dun yung posters.Funny thing is,SMB's too yuppy-ish here in Sydney.

I've been living here for more than 3 years, moved twice to the same street.I can't stand living at home, kaya ako lumipat dito.Nah,matanda na kasi ako kaya kailangan ko ng umalis ng bahay.

Sydney is a nice place to live...so I guess to visit it would be pretty cool too.

You can do all the touristy things (like see the Opera House and Harbour Bridge). I recommend doing the Bridge Climb (you walk on the top of the Bridge with a group of people), taking a Ferry out into the Harbour, and then heading out to the beach.

Club wise? Hit Gas or Home. Bars? The Cargo Bar at Darling Harbour.

Got meself 2 jobs at the mo.One I kept since college days,part-time though.I'm 23 years old already.:D

Nasabi ko lang na yuppy-ish yung dating ng SMB coz' I see a lot of 20-sumpthin around Golden Sheaf (a pub in Double Bay) at yung 'posh' na pub sa may Rushcutters Bay Hotel, forgot the name, eto yung hawak nila palagi.Prolly, out of curiosity kasi bago.
