Did you know that the RP-UAAP Soccer Team Selection that went to 1996 Asean University Games in Brunei accomplished a feat that even the country's National Soccer Team failed to accomplish in 30 years ?
The RP-UAAP Soccer Team won a bronze medal and they defeated Malaysia 1-0.

During the 1990 UAAP season (when DLSU won its second basketball title) La Salle swept all its 7 games in the second round of the elims. The winning margin in EACH game - 2 points.
During the 1987 UAAP season, Ateneo fell behind by 20 points with LESS than 10 minutes left in game two of the finals. The team rallied to win their first championship in the UAAP.
The 1985 UAAP basketball finals showcased a shootfest between two future PBA superstars. Allan Caidic scored 42 points for UE while Pido Jarencio tallied 37 for UST. The Red Warriors won the title that year.

That the Green Archers has made it to the finals of the UAAP 10 times in their 14 years in the league.
And that they have always been in the finals since 1994.
Such a far cry from our unworthy rival who has been in the UAAP longer but has only yielded 2 championships.

the adamson baby falcons is the winningest junior team in the 90's. they won 6 consecutive championships from 1988-1993, beating the ust nuggets in 1988, ateneo in 1989,1990,1991,1992, and zobel in 1993. their winning record is so far unbeatable in the junior division of the uaap.

UST's Aric Del Rosario is the longest staying coach in the UAAP. He started as coach of the UST Nuggets in 1980, moved on to the Glowing Glodies in 1985, was replaced from 1987-1989, got back the job in 1990 and gave UST 4 consecutive titles when they changed team name from Glowing Goldies to Growling Tigers.

it only means one thing my la sallite friend... La Salle is good in basketball(as well as producing artistas).we're sooo sorry if we are "unworthy". we just concentrate more on academics than on basketball... unlike your beloved school.

Good, concentrate more on your academics, you need it considering your school is behind us in the rankings.
Your right! DLSU concentrates in basketball .....because we dont have to concentrate on acedemics since we already excel in it http://www.pinoyexchange.com/lol.gif

Q: What was the reason why the Final Four not implemented the first time it took effect?
A: Because UST swept the elimination round, making them the champions automatically. The UAAP board later dis-allowed championships by sweep.
Q: Which two teams have appeared in all Final Four tournaments?
A: La Salle and UST.

3.
4. UST swept all 14 games.
5. DLSU, UST
6. UST
7. Marlou Aquino
8. EJ Fiehl
Here's another one:
Did you know that La Salle won all it's 14 games in 1990? The UAAP board, however, forfeited 3 games that Noli Locsin played.
Locsin entered DLSU during the 2nd trimester of the previous season. The UAAP board ruled that 2 trimesters is not equal to 2 semesters, thus ruling Locsin ineligible to play.

Who led the Ateneo juniors, as board 1 player, to four straight UAAP chess championships?
Paolo del Mundo led the team in each of his high school years from 1995-1999, and was declared UAAP's Junior Athlete of the Year at the end of his term.

I'v been watching UAAP for the last 9 yrs. I think the most exciting year to watch was when UST defeated LA Salle in 1996. It was the greatest match-up I've ever seen. AHHHH
also, I was amazed about the tallest frontline in UAAP history , the Adamson Falcons which composed of 3 behemoths namely Marlou Aquino, EJ Feihl and Giovanni Pineda. Too bad they didn't won the Championship and that made a controversy on Marlou Aquino who was rumored to be game-fixing? remember that? not to mention that was the rookie year of Kenneth Duremdes. FEU proved that height is not might all the time. I think dun din nag start ang kamalasan ng DLSU.

I dont think so. Sonny PAguia has led NU to the 1956 title way before Aric became a household name in the 60's

I think it started in basketball.
The 1939 NCAA finals. Ateneo was favored to win big but La Salle beat them because of the kayabangan of the Coach of the ateneo. A coach error na hindi nakabangon ang Ateneo.
After the game, since Ateneo & La Salle were both Boys schools & Ateneo was still in Padre Faura then, all hell broke loose because of the taunting & asaran. SInce it was almost the 2nd World War, lahat palaban.
Ayun nadala ng angkan ng mga atenista's lasalista ang away na iyon.

Huh? Exagg ka naman. 3-peat lang. On UST's first year, they defeated Adamson completing their sweep. On the fifth year, UST lost their 5-peat bid to La Salle during the final four. UST was twice to beat. I saw Ortiguerra cry. It was his first year in UST hoping to ride the champtionship streak of UST.
UST - Ballesteros, Cantonjos, Dale Singson, Edmund Reyes, Bal David, Rommel David, etc.
La Salle - Dino Aldeguer, Jason Webb, Maoi Roca, Cali Orfrecio, Cris Tan, etc.

As far as I know, DLSU was the 2nd-placed team in that year of the sweep by the Tigers. So technically, they were runner ups there. Then add the 3 losses to the Tigers in 94,95 and 96... Plus the bridesmaid finish in 97 vs. the Feu Tams... So that is equal to 5... :)

Actually he should been the mvp too in 1996, unfortunately the Dlsu jinx Mark Clemence Telan got away with the award... Ok lang, di naman napagchampion ni Telan ang Dlsu eh... When Telan left Dlsu, that started the 4-peat of the Archers... How ironic wahehehe.... :)

I just heard this on TV ... who is the highest three-point scorer in the UAAP?
Ironically, its a certain Tioseco who played for Ateneo during the early to mid 90s. Unfortunately, those were the goat years of the Blue Eagles always finishing either last or second to the last. Kung napasama lang siya sana sa line up nina Rico Villanueva.

Do guys remember the line up of Gabby Cui, Tonichi Pinzon, Sandy Arespacochaga and Tioseco of Ateneo? Muntik na sila mag-champion niyon. First round, number one was a tie between La Salle and Ateneo. By the end of second round, they were pushed back to 5th spot, denying them action at the final four.

when did the rivalry with DLSU and ADMU started?
This is a hard question to answer definitely. I take what I'll be saying from several primary sources, as well as those available at the Ateneo archives. You may wish to take them with a grain of salt.
You see, the Ateneo and La Salle were not originally rivals. The Ateneo was around since 1859, and La Salle was only founded in 1911. In the late 1910s/early 1920s (BEFORE the NCAA was founded), there was one core rivalry that was starting to emerge in terms of basketball: Ateneo de Manila and UP. The Ateneo squad was already famed for its success in basketball, winning in local leagues. On occasion, the UP squad would troop from Padre Faura to visit the Ateneo campus in Intramuros for a game or two.
Boys being boys, these games started getting pretty heated. The Jesuits realized that there was a need to organize the crowd to rally the team. Hence, organized cheering in the Philippines was introduced by the Ateneo de Manila which had the first cheering squad to help rally its team against UP.
Eventually, the NCAA games began. It took the Ateneo some time to win its first crown. When it did, the Ateneans started noticing something. There were students from another school called La Salle that were starting to cheer like they did: similar pumps, similar yells. These students would also watch Ateneo games even if their school was not playing against the Ateneo.
But the La Salle squad was no threat at all. The Ateneo cagers easily crushed the Lasallites. They were favored to do so in 1939 NCAA finals, when they had one of the best teams. By that time the Ateneo had adopted the Blue Eagle as its mascot. And in the 1939-1940 season, the Lasallites started calling their team the Green Archers. The Archers took the championship game by surprise, edging out the stunned Eagles.
There's a funny story about gloating which may not be true. It says that after the games, the La Sallites trooped to the Ateneo campus in Padre Faura and threw fried chickens at the gate.
In the same year, the Ateneo and La Salle faced each other again, this time, for the football crown. La Salle was the favored team to win in football. This time, however, the Ateneans took the game, leaving the La Salle booters scoreless.
The following year, the crowds started to expect a heated season between the Ateneo and La Salle. That didn't materialize. In one game, the Ateneans pointed out that La Salle had fielded an ineligible player. This caused the Archers to be disqualified for the season, and therefore be unable to defend their crown. The Archers made an appeal, but the NCAA board (which did not have Anton Montinola, mind you) was firm in its resolution. That struck a nerve, and I don't think the Archers ever forgot that.
At around this point in time, the Ateneo was still the dominant force in collegiate basketball. UP was no longer a basketball rival (and I think it had moved to the UAAP). Nor was La Salle a serious threat. However, San Beda began to emerge as a worthy sporting rival. The Lions were always fierce in their games.
Over the years, perhaps due to socioeconomic factors and whatnot, what rivalry became really storied was that of the Ateneo and La Salle. In all the years that they have faced their other since the NCAA, and now in the UAAP, the Ateneo has beaten La Salle more times in regular games and in championship matches. Collectively, the Ateneo also has more basketball crowns: it is still the winningest school in the NCAA (although I think Letran has tied this record, I may be wrong), and has 3 UAAP titles already.
A few side stories:
- Ateneo-La Salle games then were similar to the games now. Lots of heckling, lots of teasing, but really, not as much violence as we would like to fancy. At least, not as much violence as there would be after an Ateneo-San Beda or La Salle-Letran match.
- Fr. Raymond Holscher, S.J., once told me of a post-game rumble that happened between the Ateneo and La Salle once. Whose cars got smashed? The Bedans'.
- Both the Ateneans and Lasallites were die-hard in their support for their schools. Both cheered louder than anyone else, and it was often said that you would think that either the Ateneo or La Salle was winning against its opponent even if it was losing by a considerable margin, because the cheering was always loud.
- Sen. **** Gordon shared with my batchmates that during his time as a member of the Blue Babble Battalion, the Ateneans would not stop cheering even if the lights inside Rizal Coliseum were already turned off.

I just heard this on TV ... who is the highest three-point scorer in the UAAP?
Yes, you are referring to cutie Mon Tioseco.
Pero medyo malabo yung tanong mo tol; are you asking about most three pointers made in a season, most three pointers made in a game, highest three point percentage, or most three pointers attempted? I'd like to know.
*****
In 1999, the year La Salle won the second of their four straight championships to bridge the new millenium, the Archers took the seniors championship in dramatic fashion, winning Game 3 at the Cuneta Astrodome. Behind a last second three-pointer from Dino Aldeguer to force overtime, La Salle bagged the title, aided by an Angelo Velasco miss from behind the arc in the dying seconds of the game. Don Allado won his second straight MVP in a close race with UST slotman Marvin Ortiguerra. The Rookie of the Year award, however, was supposed to be a down-the-wire race between UST gunner Derrick Hubalde, and DLSU's BJ Manalo (who were both my crushes at the time :) ). To the shock of many, including myself, the award went to someone else. Not that he didn't deserve it, but that he wasnt in the spolight as much as the other two.
Question: Who won the Rookie of the Year award in 1999?

Oo nga eh. To the surprise of many uaap fans, the award went to Leonides "Leo" Avenido of the Feu Tams. Not to take anything away from the former king tamaraw, but the rookie of the year for 1999 was expected to be a tossed up between juniors mvp's of 1998 derrick hubalde and alwin espiritu of ncaa and uaap respectively and of course the consistent and effective bj manalo of the blue eaglets... :)

The game 3 loss of the Tigers started the current 13-game losing streak of the Espana-based dribblers to the Taft-based dribblers. Actually, it now stands as a 14-game losing streak to the Archers. The streak started in Game Two of that year, when UST lost to DLSU at the ULTRA in Pasig. A bright spot for the Tigers in that loss was the amazing performance of Cyrus Baguio, pulling off two steals in the second half to runaway with two fastbreak monster dunks.
Who knows? Ateneo's championship drought ended after 14 years. Perhaps the Tigers will end the Archers' dominance over them at 14 games as well. *okay*

1999 - 2 (game 2 and game 3 of the finals)
2000 - 3 (1st & 2nd round elims plus the final four game) -The tigers eliminated right away here coz the archers were twice to beat here...
2001 - 2 (1st & 2nd round elims) - tigers failed to enter the final four...
2002 - 3 (1st & 2nd round elims plus the final four game.) - Who won't forget the classic 2nd round game bet. two former rivals. A big comeback by the archers from 18 points in the final canto and winning it eventually in overtime. One of the highlights of that game was the Philippine Slam Dunk King Cyrus Baguio's follow up dunk off a jemal vizcarra miss twinner and for me one of the best ever dunks by a True-blooded Filipino. In the semis, the taft cagers enjoyed a twice to beat advantage and handily beat the Tigers...
2003- 2 (1st & 2nd round elims)
2004- 2 (1st & 2nd round elims)
Oo nga 14 game losing streak nga hehe... sorry po... ;)
I do hope and pray to all the saints to help the tigers end their problems versus the archers. Pero at the rate things are going as far as basketball program is concerned, it looks like we do need a lot of miracles for that losing streak to end... hehe... :)

2008 - Supposedly UST will be the host for this season but UP will be celebrating its 100th anniversary, so the latter wants to be the host in this momentous event for the Diliman-based institution...

Suggested fix:
1. Let UP host in 2008 (UP's 100th anniversary)
2. Let the Ateneo de Manila host in 2009 (150th anniversary of the Ateneo and of the return of Jesuit education to the Philippines)
3. Either let La Salle and UST host TOGETHER (which might be pretty interesting) or a third party will host, and UST and La Salle can host in 2010 and 2012, respectively. Interestingly enough, several calendars including that of the Mayans (which was apparently based even on the magnetic resonance of sunspots) says the world will end in 2012. Ayaw nyo nun. Sigurado ako ksi I was seated at almost the exact same place during these two games. Towards the end of Game 2, when it was apparent that UST was headed for a loss, some hotheads from the gallery started throwing coins, glasses, and other armamentarium towards the playing court (i hope one of them wasn't you ;) ). The physical arrangement at the ULTRA made it possible for objects thrown from the gallery to reach the court easily; wheras at the Cuneta, it would not have been possible. Angelo Velasco and Jeffrey Valeriano were the ones trying to pacify the crowd. And if my math is right, you bought your tickets at a 1000%+ increase.
Which reminds me: During that fateful 1999 UAAP season, one of the Tigers' games was suddenly halted. Why? Who was the opponent? And who eventually won?

1. Bago na pala ang coach ng Adamson. Does anybody remember the last guy who coached Adamson before Luigi Trillo came along? What was his claim to fame? And why couldn't he be replaced in the middle of the season?
2. Nabanggit ni tigerman at ni theo78 about the last closed door game in the UAAP, which had to be scheduled because the regular season game between UST and Ateneo was halted when a fight broke out between the Ateneo players and the UST crowd. (Don't ask me how it happened, it just did). Anyway, when was the previous closed door game before this one? Hint: It also invovled the Tigers, and a case of faulty wiring.
3. When UST swept the league in 1993, automatic champions na sila. Pero kung pinabayaan silang maglaro sa Final Four (the Final Four was instituted in 1993), they would have swept a possible 16 games. Wow. And they could have done it too, with the likes of superstars Dennis Espino, Rey Evangelista, Edmund Reyes, Udoy Belmonte, Bal David, Chris Cantonjos, Siot Tanquincen, Patrick Fran, etc. Anyway, since then, other UAAP teams have had sweep aspirations. Which team "stopped the sweep"?

UST was known as Glowing Goldies until 1992. With a strong lineup, they were in the hunt for the championship the last two years (1991 and 1992) but however came up short. They thought of changing the monicker to Growling Tigers in 1993. Ang pagkaalam ko, wala daw kasing angas yung 'Glowing Goldies' kaya they made the change. I didn't know UP ever joined the NCAA. What I knew was that the original members of the league was LaSalle, Ateneo, Letran, and San Beda. Also, I have been told and read in magazine articles too that the original rival of Ateneo was Letran and not La Salle.
The original members of the NCAA were the Ateneo de Manila, UP, UST, UM, La Salle, NU, and the Institute of Accounts (forerunner of FEU).
Like I said, the original rival of the Ateneo was UP, then San Beda. La Salle was a "nice" rival. Letran was a violent opponent.

O trivia pa!
1994 La Salle 12-0 before losing to _____
1997 La Salle 10-0 before losing to _____
1999 UST 10-0 before losing to _____
2002 La Salle 13-0 before losing to _____
2004 Ateneo 7-0 before losing to _____ (near sweep ba to?)
Lagay pa kayo ng trivia! :bop:
I can answer only 2 sweep aspirations...
1999 UST 10-0 before losing to UE (a buzzer beater) A ust fan died after suffering heart attack in that painful loss...
2002 La Salle 13-0 before losing to ATENEO... Actually UST could have been the 1st team to beat Dlsu then, remember the 18 point lead early in the 4th quarter but thanks to Yeo and Cortez the Archers clawed back and sent the game to an extra session before finally beating the Tigers...
1994 Not quite sure here... I think UST was the one who halted DLSU's 12 game winning streak there... Man, the 1994 Archers was such a powerhouse and its manpower was really full of good players... (Telan, Magpantay, Webb, Lago, Patrimonio, Roca, Bautista etc...) Maybe GreenArrows can shed light on La Salle's tormentor that halted their 12 game winning streak...

i don't remember la salle starting out 12-0 in 1994. for one, ateneo beat la salle that year on la salle's 12th game (with players like camua, rentosa, et al). so a 12-0 start is out of the question.
ust also beat them earlier that year, so i guess that would also eliminate, at the very least, an 11-0 start.

Sorry about my mathematics.

Anyway, if I am not mistaken, the Final Four format was instituted in 1994 a year after the Tigers' historic sweep.

In 1997, UST had a twice-to-beat advantage in the Final Four against DLSU. As we all know, DLSU won against UST only to lose against FEU in the finals.

Anyway, if I am not mistaken, the Final Four format was instituted in 1994 a year after the Tigers' historic sweep. I disagree, hon. The Final Four format was put in place in 1993. However, the old sweep rule maintained that if a team swept all 14 games, then they were automatically crowned as champion. Hence, UST was the automatic basketball champ.
In fact, the final four placings that year were: UST in first place, DLSU in second, Adamson in third, and FEU in fourth. Adamson, which had twin towers EJ Feihl and Giovanni Pineda, actually only lost twice (both losses at the hands of UST). But two of their games were forfieted due to player ineligiblity. They were hence tied with DLSU at 10-4, but DLSU was given the higher quotient due to a technicality. FEU was tied with Ateneo (which featured veteran Richie Ticzon, and rookies Vince Hizon and Sandy Arespacochaga) at the end of eliminations, but FEU had the higher quotient based on their head-to-head matchups.
The UAAP modified the sweep rule a few years later, so that a team which sweeps all their elimination games is automatically seeded in the finals.
In 1997, UST had a twice-to-beat advantage in the Final Four against DLSU. As we all know, DLSU won against UST only to lose against FEU in the finals. As Dr. Abes used to say, don't presume that we all know what we all know, heheh  In 1997, DLSU won their first round match-up against UST by 11 points, and were heavily favored to repeat over the defending champs in their second round encounter. A win by the Tigers would tie them with DLSU in second place, and the quotient system would come in. UST would have had to beat DLSU by at least 12 points to gain second place.
Lo and behold, the Tigers did just that, putting up tremendous defense in the closing minutes of the fourth quarter to upset the Archers, and win by exactly 12 points, if i'm not mistaken. Aric Del Rosario was seen dancing a jig on the sidelines at the end of the game.
But it seems justice is indeed poetic. As Altwegg mentioned, DLSU fought back in the Final Four and won two games in a row to barge into the finals.
Question: Who was the superstar on the 1993 Adamson team which almost stopped the sweep of UST?
bambam0731
Jul 26, 2005, 09:04 AM
Kenneth Duremdes was the superstar of the 1993 Adamson team. He was so great then that he topped almost all the statistical categories. Just can't remember if he won the MVP honors that year.

I'm not sure about their all-time head to head match-up, but NU last defeated DLSU (80-59) during the 2003 Season. The Bulldogs managed only three wins that year and the other two came at the expense of UP and ADMU.
Okay here's my contribution to this thread:
1. What team did the NU Bulldogs beat in the playoff for the 4th spot in the 2001 Final Four?

Last UAAP sa kasaysayan ng kahit na ano. :)

- Yes, the Ateneo de Manila will be turning 150 in 2009.
- Yes, 2008-2009. It's a matter of reshuffling.
Incidentally, it might even mark an interesting transition. If UP hosts in 2008-2009 and the Ateneo hosts in 2009-2010, there can be a Katipunan parade and celebration. :D
I actually hope that the opening (2008), possible transition/closing, and opening (2009) ceremonies can be held ON CAMPUS instead of in Araneta. That'd be pretty historic. :)
- Of course, I wonder how La Salle and UST will be hosting together. Pretty nifty opening ceremonies. :)
- Actually, I think it's a range of possible days. If I remember correctly, December 10-24, 2012. :D

adamson (1994), after the uaap "discovered" that marlou aquino is an effing genius.
When was the last time Adamson tasted the seniors basketball crown?
Whew! that was 28 years ago in 1977!
That year was a DOUBLE VICTORY for Adamson winning both the seniors crown! incredible isnt it?
Hector Calma spearheaded the seniors crown while the P.Martin lead the falcons for the juniors crown. Adamson is a force to reckon with in juniors for almost 30 years now.
The seniors almost made it again during the time of Kenneth Duremdez, Marlou Aquino, EJ Feihl, Giovanni Pineda. Too bad they have a a very poor coach in the name of Moises Urbiztondo and a "sobrang bakaw" na point guard na si Segundo De La Cruz. Imagine tinalo lang sila ng UST with only Udoy Belmonte and Dennis Espino in the team pero napagaling na coach na si Aric Del Rosario.

- nope dude. that line up of adamson also with bumanlag, Hipolito and erwin luna was defeated in 1992 by FEU with Johnny Abarrientos, Nestor Echano, Arnold Padaong, Bryan Punzalan and Eric Gascon. What you're saying was the 1993 sweep of UST, Marlou Aquino was not there anymore. the most formidable line up UST ever had

UAAP REPLAY TRIVIA:
* The last UAAP replay was on Oct. 12, 1991 when the Board nullified La Salle’s title-clinching 80-77 victory over Far Eastern University due to a violation committed by Archers guard Tony Boy Espinosa. On the eve of the replay, La Salle decided not to show up in the rematch, which resulted to giving the title to the Tamaraws.
* University of the East was last involved in an UAAP replay on Sept. 21, 1984 when the Board nullified the Warriors’ 106-105 overtime win over the University of the Philippines in the second round. Coach Joe Lipa (this season’s commissioner) put the game under protest when the referees did not count Maroons playmaker Ronnie Magsanoc’s buzzer-beating triple from the midcourt line. In the said rematch, UE still emerged victorious, 88-81.

I think they've met around 8 or so times already (am looking up the exact figures).
I know that the Ateneo has beaten La Salle in more games (including those for championship matches) in the NCAA, and also has more NCAA crowns than La Salle (until 2000, the Ateneo was the winningest NCAA team).

How many times have Ateneo and La Salle met for the championship in Seniors basketball both in the NCAA and in the UAAP?
Arguably the most popular rivalry in Filipino sports was forged in the NCAA: The Ateneo-La Salle rivalry. Historical records are unclear on when the rivalry began, although there are arguments pointing to La Salle's 1939 defeat of a top-seeded Ateneo basketball team and their being dethroned by the Ateneans who beat the Lasallites in the elimination round. While La Salle held their victory parade, they threw fried chickens at the Padre Faura gate of the Ateneo. However. the La Salle cage team was disbarred for fielding an ineligible player the following year (although the title would not become Ateneo's until 1941, two years after the defeat).
Ateneo-La Salle games were always heated, for both schools were exclusively for males. However, La Salle during its stint in the NCAA was not as strong a contender as the Ateneo was (see Ateneo-San Beda rivalry), with the Ateneo not meeting La Salle again until the 1959 Finals, where Ateneo prevailed. Ateneo-La Salle games are now one of the most anticipated games of the UAAP season.

Games 2 and 3 of the 1999 UAAP men's basketball finals were played at the Cuneta Astrodome. I was there at the gallery section. Normally, the ticket for the said section was P20 but my cousin and I bought ours for P250 each, a whopping 100%+ increase.
haha ... alam na alam ko to
Game 1 UST won over DLSU was played in ULTRA ... no live coverage... overdelayed telecast to! 12mn sa channel 4 ba un? basta silvestar sports pa to! This was the last victory of UST over DLSU!!! ang tagal na grabe!!!
Game 2 DLSU won!! sa ULTRA pa din to!!! panahon 'to ng counterstrike... UST has this terrorist fan with a bazooka!!! tama ba spelling ko? Everytime dlsu pep face UST na parang pinapana, UST crowd point to the terrorist guy!!! "napaaway dito si edu manzano" !!! ewan ko if nasanctioned siya dito?
Game 3 DLSU won the champinoship! Sa cuneta astrodome to!!! sobrang init! sobrang puno!!! at ang sobrang mahal ng ticket!!! P20 bleacher ticket was sold at around 200 o mas mataas pa... ang init nito sobra!!!

That the Green Archers has made it to the finals of the UAAP 10 times in their 14 years in the league.
And that they have always been in the finals since 1994.
Such a far cry from our unworthy rival who has been in the UAAP longer but has only yielded 2 championships.
Yeah but save for you and Adamson (who seem to have gotten over it unlike you), other teams don't cheat and have asterisks in some of those championships.
Also, we'd feel ashamed of championships tarnished by cheating. Unlike others who just rehire the same people ... and hope that they never get caught again.

- nope dude. that line up of adamson also with bumanlag, Hipolito and erwin luna was defeated in 1992 by FEU with Johnny Abarrientos, Nestor Echano, Arnold Padaong, Bryan Punzalan and Eric Gascon. What you're saying was the 1993 sweep of UST, Marlou Aquino was not there anymore. the most formidable line up UST ever had
tawag kina nestor echano and arnold padaong nun is "the fearsome twosome"
may ginagawa pa sila na parang jumping in mid-air after every nice play *okay*

DOUBLE VICTORY!
It is interesting to note that in the entire UAAP history, there were 4 teams that won both the SENIORS and JUNIORS crown for the same year in basketball!
Sweetest! DOUBLE VICTORY!
SENIORS JUNIORS
1977 ADAMSON ADAMSON
1985 UE UE
1987 ATENEO ATENEO

And take note that UST did it 3 times in the 1990s! Ateneo 2 times in the 1980s. UE and Adamson once!

yah... la salle left the ncaa in 1981 after that championship scuffle with letran... but according to the ncaa board, both la salle and letran supporters started the fight, but letran still declared the champion after beating the green archers that led to fist-fights and throwing metallic objects inside the rizal memorial coliseum...

Eto, hindi from wikipedia.
In 1929 when both teams were playing in the NCAA, the Ateneo de Manila, behind Ambrosio Padilla, Jess Suarez, Primitivo Martinez, and Raul Torres blew NU off the court by the score of 97-9 (Yes, you read the score right. It is to date the most lopsided game/loss ever in both NCAA/UAAP history).

The article was posted in the ADMU web site and I can clearly sense that there is some sort of an anomaly here.
How can Ateneo play with NU where at that time in 1929 NU already left NCAA? You can see that in the NCAA website

NU could have withdrawn at the end of the basketball season. The NCAA website does not say precisely when they withdrew.

up sets the trend in losing to UST 4 times in the CDC and failing to continue this streak when it lost to FEU in the recently concluded CDC.

That the Green Archers has made it to the finals of the UAAP 10 times in their 14 years in the league.
And that they have always been in the finals since 1994.
Such a far cry from our unworthy rival who has been in the UAAP longer but has only yielded 2 championships.
The first sentence in your post proves you can't write. "That the Green Archers HAVE made it to the finals....
The 3rd sentence proves you can't count: We've won 3 titles.
You are also the only school in the UAAP with the distinction of admitting a mistake yet vehemently protesting the sanctions that come with that mistake (didn't you clowns wanna take it up to the Supreme Court?).
Hoo boy, you don't have enough feet to put in your mouth....

Which reminds me: During that fateful 1999 UAAP season, one of the Tigers' games was suddenly halted. Why? Who was the opponent? And who eventually won?
it was because of a fracass, i think it was AdMU, it ended up in a close door continuation match, where AdMU won, PEx was still young then and bashing was everywhere during those days, and i was using my old nick then hahaha. its been 7 years.

False.
The Green Archers had their finals streak broken in 2003, when they lost to the Ateneo both on and off-court.

UNC, Duke students finish longest continuous game
Associated Press
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- Students from Atlantic Coast Conference rivals Duke and North Carolina completed their 2½-day basketball game Monday, finishing with an expected world record for the longest continuous game.
Duke won 3,688-3,444. The game began at 8 a.m. Saturday and ended at 6 p.m. Monday, marking 58 straight hours in Fetzer Gymnasium on the loser's Chapel Hill campus.
The 24 students from the two schools nearly doubled a pair of similar reported world records. The Guinness World Records' Web site listed the record as 30 hours, 12 minutes set in Nebraska in 2004. Game organizers said they were later informed by Guinness of a more recent record of 33 hours, 35 minutes, set in Germany last April. They passed both marks Sunday.
The students also competed to raise the most money for the Hoop Dreams Basketball Academy, a nonprofit that uses basketball to help improve the lives of children with life-threatening illnesses. Organizers said the marathon raised nearly $60,000, short of their $80,000 target.

Sure. Maybe that's why we've got more basketball titles than La Salle, and that's also probably why we've beaten La Salle in more championships.
And that's WITHOUT any PEPTEST flunkers or high school drop-outs, and actually managing to maintain a decent graduation rate wherein our players even take graduate degrees. :D

since the final four format was implemented, how many 3rd seeded teams have beaten the 2nd seeded teams twice to reach the finals? i only remember 2: FEU beating Ateneo twice in 2000 and Ateneo beating UE twice in 2002.

since the final four format was implemented, how many 3rd seeded teams have beaten the 2nd seeded teams twice to reach the finals? i only remember 2: FEU beating Ateneo twice in 2000 and Ateneo beating UE twice in 2002.
2002: Ateneo, after pulling off five straight wins to close out the eliminations (including a sweep-stopping victory over La Salle in the final match of the elims), secured the third seed in the Final Four and the right to face UE. Game 1 saw the return of LA Tenorio from sickbay, (a fracture on his nonshooting hand which sidelined him for 5 games) to torch the Warriors for 17 points, enabling the Eagles to forge a rubber match. A mammoth crowd was on hand to watch Game 2 of the ADMU-UE series, which was scheduled as part of a supposed blockbuster twinbill, the other game being an exhibition between Jong Uichico's RP Team and the Qatar National Team (yep, the game where Danny Seigle tore his Achilles, effectively ending the RP Team's hopes of landing a medal in the Asiad). In the waning seconds of the match, Tenorio set up Gec Chia for what would later be known as the Hail Mary Shot, and the rest as they say, is history.
2000: After just having beaten DLSU to end the elims, second seeded Ateneo, headed by MVP Rich Alvarez, bullstrong Rico Villanueva, sweet-shooting Ranier Sison, and rookies Magnum Membrere and Larry Fonacier, was expected to breeze past FEU in the first game of their semifinal matchup. The game went down the wire. An awkward hook shot by Tamaraw superstar Mico Roldan had the ball bouncing around the hoop for what seemed like an eternity before finally trickling in, enabling the Tams to force a decider. Game 2 saw the Tams steal the thunder from the Eagles in the fourth quarter, where Celino Cruz, Edwin Bacani, Mark Victoria, and hotshot sophomore Leo Avenido joined hands to build a late 10-point cushion that the Eagles could not erase.
1997: On the final day of the eliminations, DLSU was pitted against five-peat-seeking UST. DLSU was a game ahead of UST in the standings, and the Archers were ready to claim the second seed. But the Tigers won over the Archers, and the two teams ended up tied in the standings. In this age of the Quotient System, UST's 12-point margin of victory allowed the Tigers to steal the second seed, and coach Aric del Rosario was televised dancing a jig in the closing seconds of the game. That celebratory dance proved to be premature, though. Game 1 of their semifinal duel saw the determined Archers blast the Tigers by nine points. In Game 2, to chants of "M-V-P", Mark Telan delivered the steady free throws for DLSU to send the game into overtime, and the go-ahead basket in the final seconds. In UST's last posession, Richard Melencio lost the ball on the dribble, the Tigers lost the game, and UST lost all its five-peat hopes. To this day, the Tigers have not won a championship. In the most powerful image of that series, prized Tiger rookie Marvin Ortiguerra openly wept on the sidelines, and Coach Aric lovingly picked him up, instructed him to stand tall and keep his dignity intact.
1994: This was the year that the UAAP first utilized the Final Four format (the Final Four was actually implemented the previous year, but UST swept the eliminations and was crowned automatic champion). UST limped into the post season with the third seed, having to deal with less-than-100percent PF Edmund Reyes, disgruntled F/C Dennis Espino, and triggerhappy rookie SG Henry Ong. This was a far cry from their star-studded lineup that mowed through the opposition enroute to an historic 14-game sweep the previous year. They faced the second seeded UE Warriors, headed by do-it-all PF Braullo Lim, Rookie of the Year Bobby Diloy, hardworking Mar Morelos and Wowie Ibanez. But the Tigers would not be denied. The Espana-based squad got their act together, with Reyes playing above and beyond his dislocated shoulder, Espino concentrating on his game that would later earn him MVP honors, and Ong shooting, well, more three pointers. The second game of the UST-UE series was a highly emotional one, with the predominantly UE crowd pelting the floor with debris at one point. It took an impassioned plea by mustachioed UE coach Francis Rodriguez to settle everyone down. UST won both games in the series to upset UE, sending the Tigers to the finals against DLSU. UST subsequently annexed the second of their four consecutive crowns.
