View Full Version : Help with 790MB CDRs and Nero 5564

I just bought a 790MB CDR, Melody brand. My CD writer supports overburning but Nero 5564 can't detect it as having a 790MB free space; only up to 703MB.

I tried (overburning) writing a 780MB file via UDF (disc at once) and it worked ok.

My only question... why can't Nero correctly detect the 790MB disc? It still detects it as a standard 700MB disc?

hmm, are you making a data cd?? audio cd?? video cd?? well, anyway, i think as of now kasi ang maximum and most probably na mababasa ng mga usual players (vcd and audio) is up to 80 mins ..

It's might be a limitation of the software or hardware. Anyway, if it doesn't prevent you from writing the full 790 Mb then it's no big problem.

Issues:

a. How come a 780 MB file fit into a 790 CDR
using UDF? I expected a larger
overhead than 10 MB if you use UDF, more so with
UDF 2.0....

b. You can expect any data on those outer edges
are as good as gone...since that's the first place
a CD loses it's data integrity...

c. If you can burn even if your writing software
initially indicates 703 Mb instead of 790 Mb then
it's nothing to worry about....maybe 5.5.6.5 of
Nero will fix it.

try using the Simulation mode first. If it successfully writes 790 MB on the disk, the heck what size registers!

bravo, its actually something like 780,000kb pala... so that's actually lower than 780MB. so far ok naman yung data. i was able to read everything ok from a standard cdrom drive.

paolo, got it for 30 w/ case at galleria

donnski/les, im writing data and video CDs - is it really a hardware limitation?

although its ok to know that it can actually carry the 790MB as labeled, i would want to create multisession CDs sana, and i can only utilize the full 790MB via udf/disc at once...

i just wanted to know if any of you are able to detect the 790CDR properly...

Mahal... I just came from Greenhills mall and I was able to get a generic 700MB CD-R for PhP11.50 in a spindle worth 125 pcs. I also got a double sided plastic jewel case for PhP6.00.

The same store also sold CD-RW for PhP60-100

yung P30, isa lang yun... i just wanted to buy only one for testing but the shop told me that i can get it as low as P15 for a 100pc spindle, w/o the case of course

btw, i was able to test the disc using Nero Toolkit's Overburning test and it went ok at 90min or 790MB... so i guess yun lang talagang detection ang problema.

another thing, would CDs using the UDF format have any problems with other Windows OS? ISO is the standard format right?
