Shaunna concieted? hmm..... di ko nahalata. I never really liked Brooke Lee, siya nga yung default Miss Universe diba. It's just because the 2 front runners were out of the game- Italy and Curacao. Actually I really don't like the Miss USA's winning Miss Universe- like Brooke and Chelsea kasi sila ang pinakamadami eh. Give the other countries a chance. i would rather stomach Denise winning Miss Universe in her home turf actually.

We can all see how conceited Shaunna Gambill is on the pic above...

Yup conceited talaga si Shaunna... take a closer look at the pic again. She was expecting to win! Nagpe-prepare na siyang umiyak for her "supposed" victory walk. Ganyan din ang ginawa ni Veruska just moments before Wendy was proclaimed as the winner.
Clashing pala ang mga opinions natin regarding Americans winning in Miss Universe. Approve ako sa victory ni Chelsi way back in '95 because I believe she had the best answer during the Final 3 Q&A even though it tried so hard to be politically-correct. I guess that was the trend back then... To top it all, she undoubtedly had the best body...
Brooke naman won MU97 only because of her brains and wit. Maganda siya pero not compared to Verna or Denny. Those 2 were really the front runners during that year. Too bad they choked during the Final 6 Q&A...
Well, at least hindi blondes are winners ng USA sa MU nung 90's, kundi isang black at isang exotic Asian. I find blonde Misses USA boring kasi all the time... :(

Well I dunno about Shauuna, but I think kay Versuhka naman, she wasn't conceited because maybe the reason she was teary eyed was I think she was overwhelmed that she has gone that far- sino ba hindi iiyak. It was as if her emotions where about to over flow- halong saya at takot. sino nga ba di iiyak nun? And I saw her kiss Wendy after she was crowned and she was happy for Wendy. Review the tape. And i think Versuhka is the most emotional Miss Venezuela (another emotional Venezolana is Carolina), she cried during her final walk kaya.
Regarding naman kay Miss Italy and Miss Curacao, halatang Miss Italy did not want to reach the top 3. Parang, "Sige tama na to para sakin." I think she did that on purpose, kaya her answers were mediocre. Miss Curacao, well I wished she used an interpreter nalang.
Pero si Chelsea talaga ang pinaka boring na Miss U for me. Wala na tayong balita sa kanya after she gave up the crown. Blonde kaya si Shawnae, Kimberly, Miss USA 91 and 92 as well.

France's Pride in the 90s
Mareva Georges was Miss Tahiti 1990 and Miss France 1991. She was a semi-finalist both in MW91 and MU91, where our very own Kuh Ledesma sat as a judge.

Yup I know they're all blondes... but I was talking about the winners ng USA sa Miss Universe during the 90's, and NOT Miss USA titleholders per se.
Well, maybe I was too harsh with my comments regarding Veruska... I agree though -- she was emotional indeed. She also shed tears shortly before she crowned her successor Carolina in MV.

Oooppsss... I forgot to say that I love Macarena's voice! I dunno... She came out very sincere during the Top 10 interview.. I just feel bad that Miss World Org selects the Top 5 from each continent... Miss Scotland, Juliet Jane Horne, topped the Europe continent, so siya yung tinawag sa Top 5. I believe Macarena was stronger than her in all aspects... *sigh* Sayang...

Tama ka nga baby_boi, maganda talaga si Macarena, and I too fell in love with her voice. I think she did good sa Q&A portion, but you know naman Miss World, medyo pagka unpredictable saka we don't know their basis in choosing the winners, finalists, etc. She's kinda elegant actually, esepcially with her wearing the gown. I just wonder how she would fare in Miss Universe.
p.s.

Wow Lara! Sabay pa tayo nagpost ng feature about Lorena! As early as now, I'm already rooting for her to make it to the top 10 cut...or even the Final 5! It seems that ever since Diana's triumph in MU99, we can't go wrong with Miss Spain na.

Yeah, I won't mind if she wins Miss Universe as well. She's the model type nga, I really like her especially in the model shots I posted. And to think she's not also a latina beauty but also a European beauty as well- so ok lang na magrejoice yung mga Latinos and the Europeans. Ano pala height niya? Because I saw a pic with Helen Lindes and she's taller than Helen Lindes. Ano din pala height ni Helen Lindes? Well, as early as now, I'm not gona make a top 10 list as long I haven't seen the Miss U pics but I want these girls to be in the top 10, ok lang na magexceed more than ten ang list ko.
Of course, Spain
Russia (matangkad)
USA (miskina wala pang winner malamang pasok na)
India (India kasi eh)
Dominican Republic (vavavoom!!!)
Angola
Cayman Islands
Venezuela (pending ba siya kasi di pa natin alam ang "After Osmel" look niya eh)
Colombia (not my fav though)
Germany (magandang panglaban kay Cynthia Lander)
Puerto Rico (maganda siya pero sana di siya masama sa top 10)
Italy (she has one year to prepare and don't underestimate the Italians and I've been to italy, geesh the italians are one of most sexiest people!!!! Bella Italia!!!)
Mexico (so far the only thing i like about her is her national costume)
South Africa (hope she ain't too rehearsed)
Portugal!!!!! (nice face!!! sana she could be the first Portuguesa to get in the top 10)
Switzerland (die Schweiz ist schon- I fell in love with their delegate last year, she has this sexy model walk miskina na medyo ilang beses na niya sinuot yung gown niya, maganda siya)
Still we need to see the other delegates:
Brazil (sana si Miss Parana ang manalo)
Greece (galit na ang mga Greek, it's payback time, diba madaming models ang sasali this year?)
Philippines (eto bahala na, Jensie *** nalang mag comment dito. I'm always disappointed with Bb kasi eh. Sobrang tight ang competition even as early as now, baka ba maging ty girl nanaman tayo?)
Norway (magaganda delegates nila this year)
Curacao (si Verna Vasques lang nasa utak ko eh)

According to the official Miss España 2001 website, Lorena stands 177 cm. I converted it found out that it's equivalent to 5 feet 10 inches.
In addition to this, let's not forget that Lorena is one of the few bi-racial Spanish representatives to MU. She was born and has lived in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Helen, herself, is also bi-racial. She was born to a Spanish father and British mother.
I also checked the official Miss España 2000 website and Helen stands 174 cm. (5 feet 8.5 inches)

Hi Lara! Hi JENSIE! Hi Zack!!
I think if she'd compete at Miss Universe, she's a shoo-in in the top ten! Kung napanood niyo yung Miss World introduction of delegates where they were to strut their evening gowns with a male voice-over handling the intros, ang galing niya maglakad... ELEGANTE AT CHARMING! Kung ico-compare si Macarena to Eva Siso, mas angat si Macarena! Maganda si Eva pero mas may personality si Macarena... Ewan ko ba! Malapit na akong masiraan ng ulo dahil jan kay Macarena huh!! Hi there baby_boi! :)
Tagal mong nawala ah. What happened to you? :)
Anyway, I agree with your opinions regarding this year's Iberian beauties. This region is really dead serious in its bid to bring home the MU crown. Actually, there are a lot of Ayala clans scattered around the world. :) There are Ayalas in Spain (of course), the Philippines, Argentina, Bolivia...etc.. etc... I think there's even a famous South American soccer player whose surname happens to be Ayala...
If Iva makes it to the top 10 this year, she will be Portugal's 1st ever woman to make it to the semi-finals. The only award it has ever won in MU is the Congeniality Award with Marissa Ferreira winning it way back in MU99.

Well anyway the search is on for Miss Bahamas Universe 2002!!!! Look at there website and it's beautifully done!!! Honestly, even the Philippines is waaay ahead of the Bahamas in terms of beauty queens, it looks like they're really catching up na. Just look at their website and our own Bb website- nakakahiya. They're really serious in making it the top 10.

Hi. :) I believe Portugal started sending its representatives to MU as early as the 50's... however I'm so sorry I could not give you the exact year when this Iberian country joined. I'm still in the middle of my research on it eh. :)
Anyway, here the ONLY Jamaican representatives who have made it into the semi-finals in MU's 50 years of existence:
http://www.facepics.com/profiles/images/pageant22/pageant22_image2.jpg 1989 Sandra Foster- 9th place overall

http://www.facepics.com/profiles/images/pageant22/pageant22_image3.jpg 1999 Nicole Haughton- 9th place overall
Let's see if this US$ 1,000,000 prize, to be given by Pulse Modelling Agency to this year's Miss Jamaica Universe, will produce this Caribbean nation's "1st ever Miss Universe." The said pageant is set for March.

Hi Altwegg!!! hehehe
I haven't spoken to Zora yet. She's very busy with school work right now. The last time I talked to her was 2 weeks ago pa when I confirmed the moved schedule for the final screening.
Zora will be very busy soon-- shooting segments for the fun shoots and prizes for the incoming Bb. Pilipinas batch. She will be shooting, of course, with fellow queens Rhea, Maricarl, Maricar, & Michelle. I'll ask her this week when the tickets for the big event will be out and how much the rates are. I'll post them here soon.
Anyway, regarding Ruffa... YES, she was asked to represent our country in MU98. Since the Bb. Pilipinas Universe crown has been vacated by Tisha, time was running out and BPCI was in need of an immediate replacement. Ruffa was turning 24 then, which means she was still very much qualified. She was obviously an attractive prospect for BPCI after her unforgotten performance in MW93. However, she declined the offer-- since she was already a jetsetter at that time living in L.A. and visiting different places abroad.
As ethics and delicadeza dictated, BPCI resorted to that year's 1st runner-up, Jewel Mae Colmmenares Lobaton, to represent the country in MU. She was "crowned" through a simple telephone conversation, with Madame Stella de Araneta calling her landline in Bacolod.
I still cannot understand why BPCI did not contact Michelle Arcangel when Janelle again gave up the crown the following year. Michelle was 1st runner-up kasi eh. Pero I have no regrets (siyempre) when they chose Miriam. BPCI was quick to defend its move of choosing Miriam saying that: no such rule exists in the BPCI charter stating that the 1st runner-up automatically replaces any of the 3 major titleholders in the event of her resignation or under any other circumstances whatsoever... Then why did they choose Jewel kung ganon di ba? Dapat si Rachel Soriano pala pinadala if we were to pattern it to the way they selected Miriam...

So it's Ruffa's fault na pala. And to think she wanted to go to Miss Universe very badly. I don't know kung totoong jetsetter siya sa US, or just plain salita lang. But I would rather like Rachel Soriano going to Miss Universe instead of Jewel Lobaton. Magulo nga sila magisip at times no? The Bb people I mean.

Ikke Miss Norway!

Jensie, I stink in Math how would you convert the centimeters into feet? For example I'll give you a problem the height is 177 centimeters. Paano computation niya? Lumalabas sa calcu ko the answer is 5.803 meaning 5'8 and you said it was 5'10.

Okay. :)
So 177 cm. ang example natin ha...
30.48 cm = 1 ft
Let's solve for 5 ft muna. Multiply 30.48 cm by 5ft. We get 152.4 cm.
2.54 cm = 1 inch
We need 10 inches pa di ba? Kasi 5 ft pa lang ang meron natin. Multiply 10 inches by 2.54 cm. We get 25.4 cm.
We then add 152.4 cm (5 ft) to 25.4 cm (10 inches).
We get 177.8 cm. That is equivalent na to 5 feet 10 inches.
This is a very tricky job. Please don't always rely on your calculator because there are certain formulas to be considered. To double-check, a tape measure would definitely be very helpful. :)

I'm not so sure but I think the Miss Norway 2002 finals is on March 17, 2002, Sunday to be held in Oslo. Mona Grudt is set to attend the event. There's an article above the one you posted now. Please read it. I think the Feb. 2 date refers only to the Election Supershow (the final deadline for texting in your vote for your favorite Miss Norway contestant via SMS.) I'm not sure ha. I hope someone on this thread can really translate what you've posted...
Saka the Miss Norway 2001 was held on March 14 last year. So most probably March 17 nga this year.
Anyway, for more infos if ever... here's the URL of the television station covering the event: www.tvnorge.no

The historic declaration that almost ended our Miss Universe drought-- rewarding us what could have been our 3rd Miss Universe crown:
BPCI's Official Statement dated March 23, 1999, Tuesday:
After further investigation and due deliberation, the Bb. Pilipinas Charities, Inc. (BPCI) Executive Committee, exercising its prerogative according to pageant rules, wishes to announce its decision of accepting the voluntary relinquishment of Miss Janelle Delfin Bautista of her title, crown, prizes and privileges as Bb. Pilipinas Universe previously bestowed during the 1999 Bb. Pilipinas corontation night held last February 20.
In arriving at this course of action, the committee also took into account pertinent questionable aspects about Ms. Bautista's misrepresentation of her requirements particularly about her citizenship and residency.
Ms. Bautista's passport submitted to the pageant organizers was withheld by the Department of Foreign Affairs.
In light of what has transpired and in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Bb. Pilipinas pageant, Miss Miriam Redito Quiambao, formerly Bb. Pilipinas World, has been named as the new 1999 Bb. Pilipinas Universe titleholder.
She will have the honor of representing our country in the Miss Universe pageant to be held in May at the island country of Trinidad and Tobago.
The 23-year old Ms. Quiambao is a BS Physical Therapy graduate from the University of Santo Tomas and hails from Novaliches, QC.
Miriam, or Am for short, dabbles in modelling and aerobics instruction during her free time.
The new Bb. Pilipinas Universe titleholder will have a hectic schedule on her hands as she begins an intensive preparation program of seminars and trainings geared to make her ready for the upcoming Miss Universe pageant.

Portugal is undeniably one of the most underrated countries in MU.
Another is Colombia. This South American nation has been sending top caliber representatives throughout the years but has won only once...and that was in 1958 pa. It has not won any Miss World title yet. The only consolations it has in MU, aside from its victory in MU58, are the 5 Best in National Costume and 2 Miss Photgenic trophies it has tucked under its belt.
Israel and England top the list of countries with the most semi-finalists without a Miss Universe winner. Both countries have had 19 semi-finalists since 1952.

There's something I like about the Portuguese, iba beauty nila compared to the Spanish- and to think they're always being compared, I can't explain but iba ang features nila, saka medyo may rivalry ata sila eh. I can remember some strong Portuguese señoritas, Miss Portugal 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, and especially Miss Portugal 1999- deserving siya for Miss Congeniality. Miss Portugals 2000 and 2001 di ko masyado gusto, maybe if they changed their gowns during Miss U, especially yung si 2001- she looked bad in that red gown. And hoping that 2002 would be a very good year for them!!! Ganda niya!!! And they have this accent when they say, "Portugal" hehehe aliw lang ako. hehehe

I just saw Neha Dhupia minutes ago on the MTV Asia Awards replay. She presented the Favorite Artist Hong Kong Award, which was won by Sammi Cheng. She was introduced to the audience by Ronan Keating. She strutted onstage wearing a maroon (or was it dark brown?) corset top, with an assymetrical skirt to match. Her hair was curled to perfection... and it reminded me that of singer Billie Myers on her 1998 video Kiss the Rain. She wore dark make-up to go with the dress.
It's definitely too early to tell, but at this point I must say I wasn't impressed with her at all... her looks, her posture, and even her diction. She doesn't even look Indian (well at least on TV)... she looks Pakistani or Nepalese. I'm sorry but I don't think she's a contender at all for the Miss Universe crown. Now I believe what critics say about her on message boards. If ever she'll make it to the semi-final cut, its simply because she's wearing the "India" sash and nothing more.
I'm sorry but this is what I personally think of her. Peace. :)
To those who watched and saw her, what do you think?

Take your pick! :)
TRIVIA: Virginia has the most number of Photogenic Award winners in Miss USA. It has 6.
I noticed that US State representatives wear the same crown design (Texas, Missouri, Oklahoma?) It kinda look similar to the USA crown din... JENSIE, what's up with that?
Additional: Isn't it that the Bb. Pilipinas Universe crown looks exactly the same as the crown of Miss Dominican Republic?

Way to go, baby_boi! :) You're very observant.
All of the 51 Miss USA state representatives wear the same crown and sash (same font, color and design) to that of the Miss USA winner herself.
However, the actual crown that the Miss USA winner wears is much more heavier and is made of rhinestones, and NOT diamonds as many believe.
http://www.facepics.com/profiles/images/pageant26/pageant26_image2.gif
This is because each of the 51 state pageants (from Miss Alabama USA to Miss Wyoming USA), in charge of selecting their annual Miss USA representative, is under MUI jurisdiction. MUI owns not only Miss Universe, but the Miss USA and Miss Teen USA pageants as well. These 51 states' pageant organizers are under one authority-- MUI. All of the crowns and sashes are similar in order to signify unity within the system.
The Miss USA and Miss Teen USA crowns were designed by Sarah Coventry.
Yes, you're right again. The present Bb. Pilipinas Universe crown is exactly the same as the present Miss Dominican Republic crown. I don't know the real score on this but I would really love to know din... hmmm... I'll ask around about this. :)
BPCI introduced a new set of crowns during the 1996 Bb. Pilipinas pageant. Aileen, Daisy and Yedda had the honor of being the very first to wear them.
From 1964 (when Bb. Pilipinas was born) up to 1995, Bb. Pilipinas winners passed on the very same old, golden crowns and scepters. The winners even wore capes during the 70's.
BPCI only got the Miss World franchise in 1992 and hence, a new crown was introduced. The Bb. Pilipinas World tiara was first worn by Marilen Espino.

More CROWN TRIVIAS:
-The Miss USA and Miss Universe crowns used in 1958 were reportedly valued at US$500,000. They consisted of approximately 1,000 Oriental cultured and black pearls set in a solid gold and platinum frame, and weighed 1.25 lbs.
-The Miss USA and Miss Universe winners back then wore their crowns for only 3 times during their reign-- their coronation, their successor's coronation, and one other unspecified time.
-When the crown was worn, the titleholder was shadowed by a bodyguard. Needless to say, the titleholders were not allowed to keep their crowns.
-The current crowns (Miss Universe, Miss USA, and Miss Teen USA) are all made of genuine rhinestones, and are still worth a significant amount, but not as much as the 1958 crowns. The winners now are allowed to keep their crowns.

Here are the present Binibining Pilipinas crowns and info about each of them:
The Binibining Pilipinas UNIVERSE crown:
http://www.facepics.com/profiles/images/pageant27/pageant27_image1.jpg
-made of genuine Austrian crystals with an adjustable band.
-stands 5.75 inches in height.
-incidentally, the Miss Dominican Republic winner presently wears the same crown.
The Binibining Pilipinas WORLD crown:
http://www.facepics.com/profiles/images/pageant27/pageant27_image2.jpg
-made of genuine Austrian crystals with an adjustable band.
-stands 7 inches in height.
-the Miss Venezuela International winners during the 80s wore the same crown.
The Binibining Pilipinas INTERNATIONAL crown:
http://www.facepics.com/profiles/images/pageant27/pageant27_image3.jpg
-made of genuine Austrian crystals with an adjustable band.
-stands 5.75 inches in height.
MORE INFO:
-the Bb. Pilipinas WORLD crown is the most expensive of all crowns. (I'm sorry I cannot reveal their prices.)
-the crowns were all designed by Holly Hardwick, who used to be a fashion director for a top department store here in Manila. She is a friend of Madame Stella de Araneta.
-the 3 major Bb. Pilipinas titleholders do not have their actual crowns and sashes in custody or possession at their respective homes. The crowns are all in the custody of BPCI.
They only get to wear them during:
1. their coronation (of course)
2. official Bb. Pilipinas-related pictorials and fun shoots
3. official Bb. Pilipinas appearances, guestings and functions
4. their farewell walk (of course)
NOTE: They do NOT bring these crowns and sashes (the official ones) to their respective international pageants. They wear a different sash when they travel to their respective pageants abroad... usually the plain PHILIPPINES sash.

The Miss Universe crown is also made of rhinestones. Sorry, I wasn't able to mention it earlier. I'm going to do a research on the designer of the present Miss Universe crown... pero I think it's also Sarah Coventry. I'm not sure though...
Rhinestones (definition)- are colorless stones of high luster made of glass, paste, or gem quartz. Rhinestones are pieces of faceted glass. The original rhinestones were pebbles of rock crystal from the Rhine River (Austria's western boundary). Today, it is one of the most important materials in the world of fashion and pageantry. Evening gowns and crowns contain them most of the time.
You're right on your observation about the state crowns. Compared to the actual Miss USA crown, they're lighter and are of a bit lesser value.
The sashes worn by the Miss Universe, Miss USA, and Miss Teen USA winners now sport a new look. They're now of a metallic-grayish hue. The font is also different. The change was done to commemorate the Golden (50th) Anniversary of the Miss Universe and Miss USA pageants. The Miss Teen USA sash was also included in the change for purposes of uniformity. Denise, Kandace and Marissa are the first to wear them.
Nepalese people have darker skin compared to Indians and Pakistanis. On the other hand, Pakistanis are almost Arab-looking-- not necessarily hairy or dark... take the Afghans and Iranians for example. Indians have their "trademark" diction that you'll automatically confirm if someone talking is indeed Indian or not. Neha didn't even sound Indian at all... well, maybe she was just nervous... after all, I believe it was her first major exposure to the international scene.
OFF TOPIC" Yung mga Venezuelan beauties naman ay matigas magsalita lalu na pag Parade of Nations. Minorka, Denyse, Alicia, and Veruska all pronounced their country as Beh-neh-suwelah!!! with matching sway ng neck. Hehehe! :)

Conoció a las reinas de Colombia y España
FIRUZEH SHOKOOH VALLE PRIMERA HORA
Isis estuvo acompañada por las beldades Patricia Santiago, Miss Puerto Rico Turismo 2002 y Shadelyn López y Janice Vélez, Modelo Turismo 2002 y Miss Queen of the World 2001,
note:
For me Isis is out. I hope.

Well i can distinguish the Spanish accent from Latin America and from Spain, Latin American Spanish is much faster than the original Spanish but I can't distinguish which is which between Latin countries. From Mabuhay MB:
Who's afraid of Isabel Roces? Unconfirmed reports reached MabuhayBeauties.com that Roces (above photo), accompanied by Rodgil, assistant of top fashion director Robby Carmona, stepped into the Bb. Pilipinas botique yesterday afternoon to file her application as she guns for the most prestigious crown. If the reports are indeed true, there might only be two major titles up for grabs because this young lady is delightfully perfect and yes, headstrong and determined to win. Strict vegetarian Isabel is 5' 9", 21 years of age (perfect age!), highly intelligent and only recently, voted by MEGA Magazine as amongst the Ten Most Beautiful Women that included Verns Buckley, Pops Fernandez, Lea Salonga, Sarah Meier, Baby Cruz, Loren Legarda - Leviste, Angela Baraquio, Pia Guanio, and Pilar Valdez! Now, who dares compete with her?
If its true that she has signed up, i bet my money on her.

Castillian Spanish refers to the one spoken in Spain. It's the root of all the other Spanish languages spoken all over the world, particularly those in South and Latin America. Mabigat at iba ang dating ng Castillian Spanish. Try watching TVE in our cables and you'll really notice.
Iba rin yung Venezuelan Spanish. Mabilis at matigas. Take this example: the letter V is pronounced as letter B. It's very difficult to distinguish Venezuelan from Colombian Spanish, given the proximity of the 2 countries to one another. There also exists Mexican and Argentinian Spanish. Iba ulit ang mga ito from one another.
Just like the French language spoken in France is very, very different from the ones spoken in Canada or other French overseas territories such as Tahiti, New Caledonia, Guadeloupe, Martinique...etc etc...

The ticket rates for the Bb. Pilipinas 2002 pageant has yet to be released. I will post them here as soon as I get hold of them.
The Bb. Pilipinas Boutique is a major sponsor for long gowns and cocktail dresses for candidates every year. It's already a given and there's no changing that. BPCI was lenient last year-- candidates were given the freedom and opportunity to choose their own fashion designers if they opted to.
Unknown to many, the boutique's products (mostly long gowns) are not designed by only one person. The boutique houses an extensive network of different designers such as Pitoy Moreno, Larry Espinosa, Louie Mamengo and Renee Salud to name a few. A particular candidate has options to choose which designer she prefers within the boutique.
However, there are a series of accessories and apparel that only the boutique produces... the candidates have no choice but to avail of them... these are the official Bb. Pilipinas shirts and caps, (worn during Charity Day) cocktail dresses (worn by the 3 major titleholders and 2 runners-up during official appearances and guestings), and suits and business apparel (worn again by the 3 major titleholders when they travel abroad to their respective pageants).

Remember Katherine Manalo, Joanne Angeles (aka Joey Mead), Maffy Papin, Kristine Alzar, and Peachy Manzano? Yeah you're right Jensie, Bb has this way of disappointing people, like last year. When I saw the pic of this MEGA model, deadma lang ako. Let's wait and see nalang, every year naman you can't help but feel disappointed with BPCI. That is really frustrating, puro salita lang di naman kayang panindigan. And regarding with the BPCI gowns, if you say the girls have this freedom to choose their gowns, how come si Imee Martinez wasn't allowed to wear her choice of gown? Nasa "Wake Uppers" yun sa Inquirer last year and BPCI recieved a THUMBS DOWN.

Oh yeah I completely forgot about Imee's case. I also read about it. Well, that's a different story... obviously something fishy transpired in that case.
Anyway, 1 of my 4 bets backed off because her mom didn't allow her to join. She's only 17... and it's part of BPCI's requirements that applicants below 18 must have parental consent.
I'm now left with only 3. Yung isa delikado pa because she works pala for a big, big rival of one of Bb. Pilipinas' major sponsors. Yung 2 na lang na natira ang hope ko talaga. :(

Do you know the story behind Imee's gown? Well regarding your 17 yr olkd friend, she's not qualified for Miss Universe pa. And I just don't get it what's with that if you work for a rival company of BPCI? Parang nawalan ka ng freedom. The girl is competing and not the company she works for. See, sabi ko na nga ba eh.. disappointment as usual ang BPCI. sigh... so how about your other 2 friends? Can you just give a brief desciption of them, not the name or the school of course. The height, etc, basics lang. thanks.

Yep done that. Iba nga. I watched Miss U 99 and really listened to Diana and Carolina speak. Iba nga, Diana tends to speak more slowly and you see her tounge always touching her teeth when she says certain words, and yung kay Carolina, medyo mabilis. Yeah in Mexico lang ata they use the "Asta la Vista." Other Latin countries hindi.

See, sabi ko na nga ba eh.. disappointment as usual ang BPCI. sigh... so how about your other 2 friends? Can you just give a brief desciption of them, not the name or the school of course. The height, etc, basics lang. thanks.
Sorry I don't know the story behind Imee's gown. But I'll find out ASAP.
My friend may be 17 nga right now, but she's turning 18 on April. Anyway, okay lang. Tanggap ko na. Haay. :(
Regarding my 2 other hopes left:
-well, they're not really friends of mine, per se... pinadaan ko pa rin sa close friends ko...
22 years old, 5'9"
-a college professor and pre-school teacher
-print model
-dark skin, long black hair
22 years old, 5'8"
-a college graduate currently working in the Makati CBD.
-not much modelling experience yet
-fair complexion
Anyway Lara, ganun talaga... take the example of Katherine Manalo. Last year she was included na in the preliminary roster. Her picture and profile were even already included in the official Bb. Pilipinas 2001 website. But days later, she was dropped off the final and official roster because it was discovered she was a model for Sara Lee. Unknown to many, Sara Lee is a big rival of Avon, which happens to be one of the major sponsors of Bb. Pilipinas every year.
The thing is, pageant organizers might have have seen her as a "possible" winner and they knew beforehand that she eventually could not avail of some specific prizes, especially the products from Avon. This would be a disadvantage to her since nga tied siya sa isang exclusive contract with Sara Lee. Gets? :(

I'm just watching the replay of the MTV ASIa Awards. i just saw the BEst Designer award given to Donatella Versace,I haven't seen Neha though, i dunno if they gave the BEst Artist Hong Kong na. Well anyway, out of the blue lang, since Madamme Stella does not want Filipino designers making the gowns, then if she has the money naman, why not get our Bb. Pilipinas Universe a Versace gown nalang? Magaganda ang creations ni Donatella.

The MIXX store is found in Greenbelt beside the Versace store I think. hehehe I dunno if it's local, or they just get clothes from abroad and sell it here. Bait naman ni Donatella at di niya inisnob yung MTV Asia Awards unlike a lot of artists- kasi mabenta talaga siya dito sa Asia eh.

Importance? Wala lang. Wala pa naman ang Miss Universe so Miss USA nalang muna. It's just for curiosity sake. Honestly, ayaw na yaw ko nananalo ang Miss USA sa Miss Universe- they have 7 crowns na so give the other countries a chance. I would rather stomach Denise winning. I'm just curious kung sino ang magaganda sa Miss USA ngayon. Why ya don't like Miss USA?
Jensie,
Just saw Neha sa Asia awards yung replay sa MTV Asia (not MTV Philippines) Geesh, you're right, wala ako nakitang spark sa kanya. Or maybe it's too early to tell. Parang kulang siya sa dating para sakin. Saka the way she speaks- ang TIGAS ng accent niya. She has a pic sa 2BU column ni Tim Yap sa Inquirer today- too bad she has no picture posted sa Inquirer.net

honestly...di masyado...as in to some other beauty pageants...only in bb pilipinas...kasi syempre...local pageant yon..pero sometimes i get so sick and tired watching bb kasi naman...parang hello, they said they had screening and stuffs pero bat ganon ang girls...
and yes, i dont like Miss USA to win...pero u cant stop that, just imagine how other candidates from Ms Asia Pacific would feel when Philippines wins the crown or Miss Earth...
if the girl is truly deserving, regardless if she's the host country or miss usa for that matter, i guess no question about that..pero so far, IMHO , like miss universe now, parang sobrang halata na...but again...matatapos na reigne nya so enuff na don...

The new Miss Israel will be elected in March 13th.
There is a website for the contest but its only in Hebrew.
www.ynet.co.il/malkot
So far there are only 8 delegates, but every week they would be showing more delegates. Nahalata ko lang sa mga Jews, masyadong standout ang nose nila.
Some of the delegates:

Hi there! Nope, I don't work for BPCI. May kilala lang ako doon. Unfortunately, I could not give you answers to all your questions as of the moment.
The final screening for Bb. Pilipinas 2002 is on February 23, Saturday. It is scheduled to take place at Ali Mall. (unless it was changed) During the final screening, the 150 or so applicants, who have passed previous screenings, will be trimmed down to only 25-30. They then become this year's official candidates. The Bb. Pilipinas website will be updated for this year's batch as soon as their number tag assignments had been finalized. This might take place on the last week of February.
And the good news is YES, puwede magdala ng cameras sa loob ng Araneta Coliseum. Magdala na rin kayo ng binoculars in case. Puwede rin yun.
Regarding their sponsors naman, the sponsor for the candidates' long gowns and cocktail dresses is the Bb. Pilipinas Boutique. It has been a traditional sponsor for a long, long time. The official sponsor for make-up is Avon, of course. Other major sponsors are Agfa, Lux Super Rich, Creamsilk, Pond's, Pizza Hut, Red Bull Energy Drink, and the Araneta Center.
I haven't been informed yet of who will be the host and anchors for the big event on March 16. Just stay tuned. :)

Miss Washington Carly Shorten looks fine... yan ang model look talaga. :)
Miss Texas Kasi Kelly stands 5'11".
By the way, do you have a black delegate in your top 10 predictions? If so, who?
The hometown queen Miss Indiana Kelly Lloyd is the only black delegate in my prediction list so far. She was 1st runner-up to Vermont's Charlotte Lopez in Miss Teen USA 1993. She also represented her state in Miss America 1999.
Miss Tennessee Allison Alderson represented her state in Miss Teen USA 1994 and Miss America 1999.
Kelly and Allison are the only women in this year's Miss USA batch to have won three major crowns for their state. Let's see how they will do on March 1. :)

Miss Tennessee Allison Alderson stands 5'10".

Well, kung ok siya sa top 10, I guess she'll just have to do the rest just as every Miss India does (dazzling the judges with pseudo-philosophical answers). Other than that, di talaga ako impressed. Give me Celina the pungok anytime.
So, Jensie, all the way na pang ang pagconvince mo sa dalawang manok mo? Sana matuloy.

You're very right about everything you've just said about Neha. She's not really a contender at all for the Miss Universe crown this year. If ever she'll make it to the top 10 this year, it's simply because she's wearing the INDIA sash and nothing more.
Yup, I'm still convincing my two friends to join the pageant... time's almost running out... :(

However, mas angat si Kenya because she finished 5th place overall when Charlene only settled for the 6th place.
In my opinion, Kenya's answers both in the top 10 and final 6 Q&As were all boring and politically-correct while those of Charlene were simultaneous, smart but corny.

Ok lang daw, geesh di nga nasama sa top 10. hehehe But when she saw Nina sa Parade of Nations, maganda naman daw but lacking something daw.
Zack, where did you get Kenya Moore's tv shots? Kasi I'm looking for naman Namrata's national costume naman, and some of her tv shots sa Miss U. I like her actually, correct me if I'm wrong but she stands only 5'6 right?
Sa Miss USA naman, I wasn't able to watch Miss USA 2001 last year and I saw the Globalbeauties na it was voted the 2nd best national pageant for that year. Ok ba talaga Miss USA last year? Anybody can comment on that? Saka diba before they used to have State costumes sa Miss USA? Nakakamiss din yun.

Hi there! :)
The reason why sobrang dami ng contestants sa Miss World every year is because the Miss World Organization always makes it a point to encourage all British territories and overseas departments to join. Aside from this, the pageant receives an overwhelming support from most European and African countries.
Miss Universe can't achieve this. Every year, pakonti nang pakonti ang total number of countries na sumasali dito.
In case you haven't noticed, more and more European and African countries are joining Miss World. Nowadays, countries like Barbados, Bangladesh, China, Malawi, Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya, Madagascar, Austria, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Latvia, Macedonia are sending their top beauty queens to Miss World rather than Miss Universe.
I've even heard reports before that a certain registration fee must be paid by the local pageant organizers of each candidate when they register for Miss Universe every year. I got another report saying that Miss Universe has the most expensive registration fee. (at least among the Big 3) This is the reason daw why it has not so much delegates every year.
1984 and 1999 are the two years with the greatest number of delegates in Miss Universe history. There were 84 for both years... and to think our country did extremely well during these two years! Desiree was 3rd RU in Miami Beach while Miriam was 1st RU in TNT.
Going back to Miss World, instead of 1 contestant representing the whole of the United Kingdom, there are 3 contestants-- England, Scotland and Wales.
Even Northern Ireland was included for the very first time in the year 2000!

Another new delegate vying for Miss Bahamas Universe- now
SHE'S one of my bets for Miss Bahamas!!!
http://www.missbahamasuniverse.com/images/thumb/erin_high.jpg
Sponsored, as Miss Geo-Chris is nineteen-year old Erin Gay. This statuesque beauty stands 5' 10" and has cheekbones to rival Iman. Erin is presently a Visual Arts major at the College of the Bahamas and some day hopes to complete her studies in film making at the International Fine Arts College in Florida. Presently she's a part-time sales associate at Adam & Eve and she enjoys listening to music, photography, reading and being with friends. Mr. George Gabriel, CEO of Geo-Chris says, "The most striking quality about Erin besides her intelligence is her humility, that's very hard to find in our materialistic society nowadays." Budget Buy Four Less and Jungle Juice are sponsoring Erin in the competition.

1993 was the very last year that state costumes were worn in Miss USA, particularly during the Parade of States. The last Best State Costume was won by Tavia Shackles of Kansas, who eventually won 2nd runner-up.
Miss USA 2001 was a good pageant. (well at least compared in detail to the Miss USA 2000 pageant) It greatly foretold how the MU2001 pageant would be like-- great music for the swimsuit and evening gown competitions and those unjustifiable commercial breaks.
Miss Congeniality star William Shatner hosted the pageant. He was the same guy who hosted the "Miss United States" pageant, where Gracie Lou Freebush (played by Sandra Bullock) entered the pageant as an undercover agent under the Miss New Jersey title in that said movie. William was a good host indeed.
The then-reigning Miss Universe Lara Dutta was co-host. She did an exceptional job indeed! Former Miss Teen USA 1998 Vanessa Minnillo was the anchor. Compared to Julie and Ali, she was better.
Evan & Jaron performed their hit Crazy for This Girl during the introduction of the delegates. A lot of people complained about this because merely 3-4 seconds were allotted for the audience to see each of the 51 delegates...to think it was a taped introduction!
Canadian sensation Lara Fabian performed the remixed version of her hit I Will Love Again during the Bikini.com Swimsuit competition. Unfortunately, I forgot the title of the song used for the evening gown competition... but it was great though...
During the final 3 Q&A, Miss District of Columbia Liane Angus unarguably gave the best answer. She was my bet to win. I thought it was going to be a black-to-black victory. I was so shocked that it did not impress the judges at all! She settled for 2nd place overall.

She wore a very unique national costume-- it didn't look Indian at all. It showcased Britain's rich cultural influence to India.

Jensie, thanks for the Miss Thailand website. I will ask my friend from Thailand to translate it for us. Just want to add about Namrata Shirodkar, 5'6 pala wasn't a hassle during her time. Gone were the days.... and her national costume is almost the same with Madhu Sapre. Well they're best friends kasi eh.
Just looked at Miss Thailand Universe- i think they haven't released their delegates yet. But their website looks great actually. Buti pa sila....

SOME NOTES:
-Local designer Larry Espinosa designed Jewel's halter corset gown. Espinosa was the same designer responsible for Jewel's Best In Long Gown victory in Bb. Pilipinas 1998.
-The House of Halston did Miriam's assymterical gown. The beads were painstakingly attached in Miriam's Miami hotel suite shortly before she flew to Venezuela for a 2-week training.
-Colombian designer Alfredo Barraza created both Nina Ricci and Zora's "sexy" and "daring" gowns. Nina Ricci's gown was inspired by a goddess from Greek mythology, while that of Zora was inspired by Audrey Hepburn's fashion sense.

Hi Lara! Thanks for the URL! :)
Scandinavian women, in my opinion, are the most beautiful women in the whole of Europe. Let's also not forget the fact that the first winners of Miss Universe and Miss World were Scandinavians.
To start off, Kerstin "Kiki" Haakonson of Sweden won the 1st ever Miss World crown in 1951. This Scandinavian country even won the pageant's 1st ever back-to-back victory when May Louise Flodin won the following year. Armi Kuusela of Finland, another Scandinavian country, was the very 1st to win in Miss Universe in 1952.
To date, Sweden has the most number of major international titleholders in Europe. It was 3 Miss World and 3 Miss Universe winners. Even the United Kingdom could not break this record.
To add to this, it is the European country most number of semi-finalists in Miss Universe. In Miss World, it is the European country with the most number of semi-finalists after the United Kingdom.
Venezuela even tried sending half-Swedish representatives to Miss Universe and it was quite successful. In 1989, Lisa Eva Larsdotter Ljung went to Cancun and made it to the top 10. Last year Eva Anna Monica Ekvall Johnson, born of a Swedish father, won 3rd runner-up in Bayamon.
Anyway, here are my bets to win:
http://www.tv3.se/frokensverige/grafik/liten_goteborg.jpg Sofia Sjoholm- reminds me of Kandace Krueger and Angelique Breaux.
http://www.tv3.se/frokensverige/grafik/liten_halsingland.jpg Lisa Nojdh- a striking stunner.
http://www.tv3.se/frokensverige/grafik/liten_oland.jpg Emma Fredriksson- reminds of Elodie Gossuin in Miss Europe.

Miss USA site has been updated and you can see the candidates for Miss USA 2002.
Question lang, what do you think is the most unruly and the best crowd Miss Universe. I think for me the best audience in Miss Universe was back in 1992 the Thais. When **** Clark said hold your applause until the final judge was introduced, NO ONE WAS CLAPPING!!! And you would really see they were really composed. Here naman in 1994 kahit papano may naririnig tayong may pumapalakpak. Kaya ang taas ng tingin ko sa mga Thais eh. They're such proud people. The worst crowd naman, well everybody knows this- the Mexicans back in 1993. When I was watching the 1993 tape, you couldn't help but have goosebumps kasi nakakahiya talaga ang ginawa nila. You feel sooo ashamed for them. Sobrang pagka sore losers. Well, just my 2 cents.

Yes, you're very right! The Mexican crowd during MU93 should be very, very ashamed of themselves. Nakakahiya talaga. The top 10 were already announced and the anchors were already giving their comments up in the anchor booth and the shoutings and bitterness can still be heard clearly... they really were sore losers.
For me, the most exciting crowd naman was that during MU99. You can really feel the excitement kahit sa TV lang nanonood. During the evening gown competition, Spanish balladeer and hunk Julio Iglesias Jr. serenaded the top 10 with his hit One More Chance. I couldn't hear a word coming from his mouth because sobrang lakas ng cheers ng crowd especially for Misses Venezuela, Jamaica and Philippines.

Going back to Miss USA 2002, I am definitely not turning my back on Kasi! She will be Miss USA 2002! (The 9th for Texas) She's a strong contender for MU2002.
Notice her striking resemblance to Courtney Gibbs (right), Miss Texas and Miss USA 1988.

Thanks for the info about the new Miss Costa Rica. Marilyn was one of my top 3 bets a month ago if you could still remember. I was betting on Shirley because of her strong resemblance to Denise Q. :)
Yup, I agree with your comment on the crowd in MU94. Good sport pa sila because they were civilized when Charlene Gonzalez didn't make it to the top 3... unlike the Mexican crowd when hometown queen Angelina Gonzalez failed to make it to the top 10 cut.

I really believe had Dayanara Torres-Muñiz been assigned to sit as a judge during the preliminaries, malaki ang chance na pasok talaga si Zorah sa top 10. But the thing is, sa finals telecast siya nag-judge eh.
Zorah told me she was nervous during the evening gown preliminaries... but she was very surprised daw when the crowd applauded and appreciated her performance. I think she received a not-so-impressive score during the swimsuit round kaya she wasn't able to make it to the semis.
Speaking of Zorah, she was the muse of Purefoods TJ Hotdogs during the PBA Samsung Governors Cup 2002 Opening Ceremonies at the Araneta Coliseum early this afternoon. Kamukha na niya si J. Lo because of the hairdo and earrings. :)

When I saw Zora sa MIss U Prelims, I'm sorry to say but she did not impress me, she was lacking something. She lacked some VAVAVOOM. I just did not like the way she walked during the gown competition, it looked she was dragging her heals. But if you could see the final telecast during the evening gown competition when all of the non top 10 where walking down the ramp, she let her hair down- ANG GANDA NIYA!!! San ganun nalang hair niya nung prelims. Sabi ko nga eh, manood ka lang ng F Channel matututo ka nang maglakad. hehehe

i understand that. Kasi mayroon atang illusion si Madame Stella na siya pa rin yung nagcocompete sa Miss Universe eh. So she let's it out by being authoritatian to the girls. What that WITCH WANTS THAT WITCH GETS. Madame Stella= salot ng Pinas.
p.s.
My mom had dinner with Pitoy Moreno last week with some collegues, then I told my mom na malapit na ang Bb uli and i asked what was Pitoy up to, and she said na sobrang purga na si Pitoy sa Bb. hehehe told you so na it's not Pitoy's fault after all.

Sad to say, our candidates to MU do not have full control on how they should do and wear their hair and make-up. Sure they may give their suggestions... but in the end it's still Madame Stella's authority that says it all. :(

Haay nako... don't you think na karma na sa kanya ang nangyayaring pagiging underrated ng Colombia sa mga iba't ibang beauty pageants worldwide???
So far, it has won MU only once. (at nung 1958 pa yun ha) It has not won in MW yet. And it has only 2 MI winners...
Karma na nga, sort of, right? :)

Actually ang karma sa kanya eh yung pagiging flop natin sa Miss Universe thanks to her. And with that ang baba ng tingin ng mga tao towards Bb. It hasn't recieved much support naman eh. Mawala lang si Madamme Stella at gaganda ang Bb.
New topic naman:
I saw this sa GB Message board where nung opening ng Winter Olypmics somebody commented about Venezuela when they were parading their atheletes.
Olympic Moments
Did anyone else in the US catch the opening ceremonies when the Venezuelan delegation walked out? Katie Couric actually stated that while Venezuela has never won a winter games medal that they HAVE won more Miss Universe contests than any other nation in the last 25 years! Yes, she actually said it! Did anyone else see and hear that? I was amazed that she would mention something like this!
Eto pa isang post, sayang they don't show the Winter Olympics here, pero as if may snow dito.... hehehe
It was an exciting and proud moment to hear "Venezuela has not won any medals but has won 4 Miss Universes , more then any other country in the past 25 years". That just goes to prove what an impact the Miss Universe pageant has. Thanks to Trump and the new redifined MUO crew, Miss Universe pageant has become a serious business, as well as a fun tradition. It is a big deal as many refrences are amde to it, EVERY day on television. Even the Olympics, which is big! Katie Corricks comment was so well taken. It meant, hey..they don't have any medals, but who cares they have four Miss Universe titles for their nation! As if the Miss Universe title si such a hot comodity ,a nd so respected, it balances it out. That is so true, and I'm so glad thanks to the slew of major media attention the MUO pageants has been getting, it is becoming more famous and more popular. There was a MAJOR increase in viewers of Miss Universe last year. The ratings went much higher. Pageants are bigger then we think. Especially, Miss Universe. Miss Universe is known all around the globe as an annual classy event. People look forward to it, and enjoy it. I know my family sure does. I remember back in Sydney 2000 Summer Games ,as soon as the delegation from Botswana came, literally the very first thing the commentators said was "This countryhas alot to be proud of as it is celebrating a recent win as Miss Universe." Funny thing being, sometimes the biggest critics of Miss Universe is the fans themselves, one day when it goes away (which is the day I stop watching pageants because I vowed to never watch Miss world in my life) many will realize just the capacity of greatness we lost.
So Miss Universe is getting more publicity pala ha... hehehehe nakakataba ng puso. Your reactions please...

Wow... kinikilabutan tuloy ako...particularly regarding what people said about Venezuela during the Winter Olympics. :)
This post of yours made me realize more that Miss Venezuela Cynthia Lander will really put on a good show in MU2002. Knowing her country, hindi sila magpapatalo nang ganun-ganun lang. Laging may spice at challenge. Wala lang. :)
We are very much aware of the fact that since she was crowned last September of 2001, she has received tons and tons of negative criticisms... Ganyan talaga sa simula. I believe no Miss Venezuela is truly Miss Venezuela if she does not receive her own share of criticisms and smear campaigns hurled against her... I think that's the essence of being Miss Venezuela.
Come May 29, believe me, Cynthia will put on a good show... just like what past Miss Venezuela winners has done for the last 19 years.

Ang galing ni Jensie ah!!! Where did you hear the news about Miss Brazil? I hope either of this 3 could win. Jensie favor lang din, can ya post din the coronation night of the Scandinavian countries? Forget about France, I think this year is a strong year for them. thanks.
Problema lang sa Brazil, if you notice, masyadong cluttered ang mga evening gowns nila. Look at Miss Brazil Universe and World's gown last year, parang daming abubot- some twisted thingys na parang alambre, etc. hehehe

Here are the Scandinavian coronation dates you've requested:
Miss Suomi 2002- February 17, 2002, Sunday
Froken Sverige 2002- February 25, 2002, Monday
Froken Norge 2002- March 17, 2002, Sunday
Denmark is the remaining Scandinavian country without any news or developments regarding its national pageant. We are not even sure if it is sending a delegate to MU this year, as it has done last year. The last time it was represented in MU was in 2000.
I got the coronation date for the Miss Brasil 2002 from the Global Beauties Latina section. I was browsing through the old articles when I came across this article saying that it is scheduled on that date (March 16, 2002). This is a credible source because Global Beauties.com is the same site that officially covers the Miss Brasil pageant. For those unaware yet, Global Beauties may be Miami-based, but it is Brazillian-administered.
You're right on your comments about Miss Brazil winners and their gowns in MU and MW. Masyadong "exag" at "over" sila manamit.
Take the case of Michella way back in MU98. Had she worn a more simple gown, she would have made it to the final 5... to think her interview score was high. Can't they opt for simple yet stunning gowns? Less is more! They should learn from Venezuela... the gowns worn by Marena and Veruska were so simple yet both had touches of elegance and perfection.

Greatest 1st RU streak: COLOMBIA in 1992, 1993 & 1994
NOTE: When I say "semi-finals", I mean either the Top 10 (from 1952, 1984-2001), the Top 12 (from 1970-1983), or the Top 15 (from 1953-1969). As we all know, MU has evolved through its 50 years of existence.
Greatest number of Asians in the semi-finals:
NOTE: Egypt, Cyprus, Israel, Lebanon, Turkey are the only Middle Eastern countries currently participating in MU. (Iraq once participated in MU72) The Middle East is a region WITHIN the Asian continent per se, which is why I'm rightfully counting Cyprus, Turkey, Israel and Lebanon as Asian countries. Egypt, on the other hand, has long been considered a Middle Eastern country but is located within the African continent per se, which is why it is counted as an African country of course.
I am explaining this in response to confusion over their (with the exception of Egypt) participation in Miss Europe. They simply participate in that pageant because of their healthy ties and proximity to the European continent. Another reason is that they are also culturally-European. This also indirectly explains why Russia is able to participate in Miss Asia Pacific.
MU73- (5) Japan, India, Israel, Lebanon, Philippines
Greatest number of South Americans in the semi-finals:
MU54- (5) Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Peru, Uruguay
MU58- (5) Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Peru, Suriname

MEXICO-
Acapulco in 1979
Cancun in 1989
Mexico City in 1993
NOTE: There are lots of unconfirmed reports that Cancun is hosting MU2003. If ever this plan pushes through, Mexico will regain its #1 spot as MU's most favorite venue outside the U.S.
PUERTO RICO- I am already including MU2002, PR's 3rd MU hosting. It's now tied with Mexico.
Dorado in 1972
Bayamon in 2001
San Juan in 2002

Hi power(bubbles)! :)
Here's another bit of trivia... even though Venezuela has been sending top caliber representatives to MU, it has won the Photogenic Award only once... and it was won by Minorka Mercado during MU94.
Venezuela is one of the underrated countries with regard to special awards. It has not won any National Costume or Congeniality awards yet.

Hi! Good morning! :)
I would just like to point out that St. Maarten is different from St. Martin.
St. Maarten is a Dutch overseas territory while St. Martin is a French overseas department.
Angelique Romou represented St. Martin during MU2000.
Bernice Gumbs is representing St. Maarten in MU2002.
By the way, Dalmacia is Croatia. Sorry for not pointing that out earlier.
Thanks for Natascha's pics! :)

DEION SANDERS is Miss USA 2002 host.
After Shemar Moore's hosting of the Miss USA 1999 pageant, MUI has commissioned another black personality to host the pageant. Deion Sanders is scheduled to host Miss USA 2002 as it broadcasts live from the Genesis Center in Gary, Indiana on March 1st.
Deion is a well known defensive back in the National Football League (NFL). He currently plays for the Dallas Cowboys and wears the #21 jersey as always.

Shemar and Deion has earned their places in US pageant history as the only black personalities who have been chosen to host the Miss USA pageant.

Yup you're right! 8 months ka ba namang mag-train with Osmel 24/7... talagang magiging perfect ang katawan mo sa lagay na yun, di ba? :) Saka when Eva won MV, hindi ganyna ka-toned at ka-tan ang body niya.
Kaya nga I'm worried na on how Cynthia looks at this particular moment. MVO has not been releasing any official pictures of her... By May, shocked na naman tayo sa gagawing tactics ng Venezuela. Walang patid talaga...they're assured of (at least) a spot in the final 5.

Ok lang yun. hehehe I want to be surprised. It seems you kinda dislike Cynthia Lander huh? Yeah who wouldn't? kasi I want another country naman taking Venezuela's slot sa top 10. Well, they will really be putting up a good fight, they always do. Saka I always like the feeling na nagugulat or natutulala ako everytime we see their Miss Venezuelas. Another thing I like about Eva was her national costume- ala Gone with the Wind. I'll try to post a BIG picture of her costume later. The Venezuelans always send very interesting national costumes. And I am very curious what cynthia lander's costume would be. Hoping ala Gone with the Wind din- with those big, heavy petti coats. Yung kay Carolina Indriago nagandahan din ako.

You're very right! I agree a hundred percent! :)
When May comes and we see pics of Cynthia for the very 1st time, tulala na naman tayo...Para bang.... uh-oh......what has Osmel done to you? Ganun ang feeling di ba? I really can't imagine Venezuela not making it to the top 10. It's really impossible...
Regarding their national costumes... they're one of the most underrated countries when it comes to that. It has never won even one national costume award... to think their costumes just keep on getting spectacular and spectacular every year...
Let's not forget that Cynthia speaks perfect American English...I read it before on many websites and boards... She has lived in the States for quite some time, just like Martina Thorogood... Eva Ekvall is another perfect English speaker. With this in mind alone, we know she'll take the personality and final interview competitions by storm.

In Miss USA's 5o years of existence, South Carolina has won thrice. Two of its winners, Miriam Stevenson (1954) and Shawn Weatherly (1980), went on to win Miss Universe as well. Lu Parker was SC's 3rd Miss USA. Unfortunately, she only settled for 4th place overall in MU94 held here in Manila.
Will Ashley win SC's 4th Miss USA and 3rd Miss Universe crowns? We'll find out on March 1st. :)

Sentimental Favorite. Kaso alang malaking pic eh. :(
From BB. Pilipinas Website. Zorayda Ruth Andam, Miss Philippines 2001, poses for photographers high atop The Westin Rio Mar Beach Resort, Country Club and Ocean Villas in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico in her National Costume. The national costume worn by Miss Philippines, Zorayda Ruth Andam, took inspiration from the 19th Century novel of the country's national hero and patriot, Dr. Jose P. Rizal entitled "Noli Me Tangere." Maria Clara was the name of the heroine in the novel. She was a woman of finesse and a symbol of femininity, hence the Philippine national costume, which is still used today as a full dress, is aptly called the "Maria Clara." It consists of a blouse using the fabric made from woven pineapple and banana fibers and delicate embroidering showing native designs and figures. As an accent, a "panuelo," or a scarf, made from the same material is worn to cover the neck area. It passes over the shoulders and its pointed tips gather around the chest part of the blouse. The ample skirt called "Saya" is luxuriously decorated according to its class and the nature of the occasion. In orange color, the skirt is complemented by a richly starched petticoat, giving it an abundance and a fullness. The look of the skirt is highlighted by rich handiwork of embroidery using designs such as sparrow shots, spangles and a variety of appliques in a floral motif. To complete the "feminine" look of the national costume, a delicate parasol made from the same material as that of the blouse is used by the wearer. It has an eye-catching embellishment of flowers and exotic from the region.

I'm still watching Carnaval de Rio in the F Channel, nakakatulala ang mga costumes nila!!! There are too many to choose from which would be best to bring to Puerto Rico. The Miss Brazils don't wear those costumes like they used to. If Miss Brazil this year would wear something similar to those in Rio, they would give Mexico a run for their money.

Hi Lara! Thanks for posting these wonderful Carnival pics!
Brazilian culture, well at least South & Latin American culture for that matter, is really colorful and rich! It should host MU in the near future...
So far, Peru is the only South American nation to have hosted a major international beauty pageant. It hosted MU82.
Miss World naman, never traveled to South America-- laging London, Sun City, Seychelles lang... Noong late 80s and early 90s, sa Hong Kong at Atlanta naman...
Hi Zack! Thanks naman for the national costume pictures. I've been hearing a lot of unconfirmed inside reports that our representative to MU this year will be wearing a native costume complete with beads, headress, and all those accessories. Basta ang theme daw ay yung 7,107 islands natin. Engrande daw talaga. If ever this plan pushes through, parang Caribbean costumes na yung dating nun, di ba? Saka its not really sure pa naman eh. Just wanted to share... :)

Martina Thorogood
She was going to be the first woman to represent Venezuela in the two major international beauty pageants: Miss Universe and Miss World. But as Miss World's 1999 1st runner-up, Martina was not accepted by Miss Universe and Venezuela's delegate in its 2000 edition, held in Cyprus. The Miss Venezuela Organization immediately held another pageant early quarter of 2000 and sent Claudia Moreno to the Miss Universe 2000. Martina’s fans were sad, but Martina was not. She had a feeling of 'mission accomplished'. One year later she got married.

taken from Mabuhay MB:
"I've always dreamed of being crowned Miss Universe. It's not very original, I know, but somehow I just can't help it. One is free to dream right?"
Those were the exact words of Michelle in an interview excerpt in Women mag.
I was able to watch the Bodyshots 2002 last Thursday night. In the photos posted by Mabuhay, I actually didn't like Michelle at first glance. I hate the way she raises her left eyebrow which I thought is her trademark. Well, everything changed when I saw Michelle compete in the Bodyshots.
Michelle has full of grace, equipped with great style and convincing stage presence. Beyond that, she's all glowing and definitely sexy. I really believe that Michelle fits the Bb. Pilipinas International title. She could easily grab the crown. From head to toe, Michelle has what it takes to conquer the pageant scene.
When Michelle Shulte was asked about her vision of her career in the future, She replied, "A beauty title holder. I've always dreamed of being crowned Miss Universe. Who knows? I think I should give the opportunity a shot."
I like her.... jensie, any news?
