MISS UNIVERSE 2002 :)

Up to this very moment, hindi pa rin ako talaga nakaka-recover sa pagka-sindak kay Cynthia Lander. She really got a big, big boost from the crowd dahil na rin sa dramatic "transformation" na she got from Osmel & co.

I really loved the part when it was her turn na to compete during the Evening Gown competition of the Live Telecast. Natapat kasi siya sa crescendo part nung "Dancing With The Muse" song by Chris Spheeris. Ang ganda ng bagsak ng music sa kanya... Sindak talaga... Watch your MU2002 tapes again and you'll see what I mean. :)

The future of Miss Universe in NBC.

I've read this in one of the message boards regarding the furture of Miss Universe in NBC.

"Also, it seems that 2003 will bring MANY surprises for the Miss Universe Organization. It seems that they are ready to eagerly pass Miss Teen USA so the NBC/MUO Partnership can begin. I hear that NBC is bringing in big time sponsers for the pageants as well as increased pre/post coverage of all pageants including espanol related coverage of Miss Universe on Telemundo. As well as coverage on all of NBC's news stations and magazines, etc. I have a feeling that 2003 will be great for the MUO and I think finally, Miss USA/Miss Universe/Miss Teen USA has finally found its place."

Miss U 2003 is really something to look forward to, it will be getting more exposure.

Where is Anguilla?

Puerto Rico has a LOT of catching up to do in Miss World.

The last time it made it into the semi-finals was way back in 1985, when Iris Matias Gonzáles made it to the Top 15 in London, UK.

It has only won once-- in 1975, when Wilnelia Merced Cruz captured the crown in London, UK.

It has never won any special award at all.

Well it seems another "thank you" girl, but I have high respects for this county, even if they're not doing well in Miss Universe, I admire their fighting spirit- they haven't skipped a year. Compared to such countries like Iceland, Romania, Hong Kong, Denmark, etc. compare these countries with the British Virgin Islands, they send more beautiful girls- but they tend to get discourage so easily.

Infos about Miss Apelario-Ong, she graduated from DLSU with a certain Liberal Arts-Commerce degree last year. She competed in Supermodel of the World 2001 were she won the ESAC Runway Award. Kasabayan niya sina Charisse Arayi who tried her luck in BInibini but she failed. Charisse is a half-nigerian, half-Filipino who stands at 5'11. I'll try to secure a picture of her kaya lang one thing you would notice is that she is Filipina-Chinese but anyhow who cares as long as we get in. I think Gayle is befitting for the Miss World title.

Pilipinas 2002 roster is because Madame Araneta still ain't ready to crown a "black" Bb. Pilipinas... I do hope Charisse would give Bb. Pilipinas 2003 a try. :)

I also hope Jeanne Harn joins again next year. She was originally included in the official Bb. Pilipinas 2002 roster during the Feb. 24 Final Screening. 5 days later, she was taken off that list after she figured in a contract-scandal. She had previous commitments with another agency. Honestly, after seeing the photo of the delegates, they aren't really that striking. I don't see anyone of them having the "it" factor. This year, there were more beautiful delegates in Miss Jamaica Universe- before it was the other way around. But not this time, for the first time, the Miss Jamaica Universe had the edge.

The reason why Jamaica doesn't send delegates in Miss International is rather obvious- Miss International is still stuck in a time warp having a mindest that the only beautiful girls are the Caucasians. The African countries are not sending their girls as well. It's a cheap pageant anyway.

Miss World Organization officials announced in Abuja, Nigeria yesterday (August 11,2002) that the 2002 Miss World Beauty Pageant will now be held at the International Conference Center in Abuja on November 30, 2002. The announcement was relayed to the media by no less than Miss World Organisation President herself, Mrs. Julia Morley.

Morley, who is currently in Nigeria to check on the progress of preparations for the international pageant said , "We thought that the new Abuja stadium would be ready before then but we understand it would not, hence the need for the change of venue." She added that only the grand finale of the contest would be held at the centre which could accomodate around 4,000 people.

At the same Abuja press conference, Morley gave indications that the Miss World Organisation will be setting up an official Miss World.com website in September. It is expected that the website will showcase information about Nigeria , its culture, people and beautiful tourist sites to be browsed by people across the globe.

Almost at the same time Morley was having her press conference in Abuja, some Nigerian government officials issued a warning to Miss World 2002 contestants to stay away from parts of the country practising Islamic law. Officials further added that the beauty contest has been treatened with disruption by hard core Islamic groups from Nigeria's predominantly Muslim north objecting to the pageant's swimsuit competition.

Nigerian Culture and Tourism Minister, Boma Bromillow Jack said they adviced Miss World 2002 organizers not to allow the ladies to go to Zamfara and other Sharia states because of the risks.

Ever since Agbani Darego's trimuph as the first Nigerian and Black African to win Miss World and after Nigeria won the rights to host this year's contest, Nigeria has been divided on opinions whether is was appropriate for a developing, Islamic country like Nigeria to host the pageant.

Darego's victory caused widespread rejoicing in the country's mainly Christian south, with some commentators saying it would offer hope to a country where women are forced into prostitution. Others criticized Darego's win saying she won because of
