Don't forget she was also my bet for Miss Republica Dominicana. hehehe I just hope she doesn't commit the same mistakes as Ruth Ocumarez, to think she had almost a year to prepare but all she got was hype and a damaged ego, and not to mention to add more on the damage by having a wrong choice of evening gown. Though the new queen is beautiful, I don't see her wearing the Mikimoto crown. And hoping she isn't over confident. I could imagine Ruth Ocumarez crowning the winner, her heart must be breaking because all her dreams in Miss U are now down the drain. hehehe

Road to Panama:
I think the number of delegates up to date is 12, you forgot to include Miss Indonesia. She was given the go signal already.

BREAKING NEWS

Jeimi Hernandez of Bonao was 1st runner-up during last night's Miss Republica Dominicana 2002 pageant. She will represent her country in Miss International 2002 set for October 4 in Hawaii.

Jeimi is 24 years old and stands 5 feet 11 inches. She's a licensed market researcher and a professional model as well.

I was just watching my record of Miss World 1998, and when the girls were parading in their evening gown, my eyes caught the attention of Miss Kazakhstan 1998 Anna Kirpota, she was wearing a beautiful violet gown that we can say distinguishly Kazak- very ethnic. Too bad she wasn't among the top 10 but for the past years, Kazahkstan has been sending drop dead gorgeous girls in Miss World. Aside from Miss Kazahkstan 2000 who later on competed in Miss Earth, they should really try going to Miss Universe. There would be more exposure for them, and I think they would be easily be noticed as well. In Miss World the camera only focused on her for a few seconds in her gown.

The Cayman Islands could had bagged a spot in the top 10 in Miss U. Shannon McLean looked much better back in Miss World, I dunno what happened to her in Miss Universe. If she was going to wear that awful and plain blue gown in the presentation, she could have just used/recycled the gown she wore in Miss World.

That's the prob with us. We tend to make statements agad. And then after some time, we'd take it back. During the Miss Universe 2002 frenzy, we'd post a pic of a certain delegate then we'd make comments like the delegate won't stand a chance, etc. For all we know, that delegate placed in the finals (e.g. Miss China, Zhou Ling). I just hope that next time, we'd be more cautious with our stand. So that visitors/posters wouldn't get confused, especially the not so pageant fanatix like us. That's all. :)

Though I'm not much of a Miss World junky, what I like about Miss World is that you can feast your eyes on a lot of spectacular gowns. From observations, there are more beauitiful gowns in Miss World than in Miss Universe. Just take a look in MW 2001 alone:

Hi Everyone. Its been a while for me. In my personal opinion, the Miss World pageant carries more substance than Miss Universe. I find the crop of delegates in that pageant prettier, more intelligent and most of all very elegant. That why I can't understand why some people holds an animosity towards that pageant. At least Miss World has yet to produce a winner who is a non-finalist in Miss Universe, unlike that of Miss Universe who had produced three non-finalist at Miss World. But the 3 non-MW finalist deserves to be crowned Miss Universe. That's it.

Regarding Miss World having more stunning, intelligent and elegant girls, they're just balanced with Miss Universe. Though in MW there are more jaw dropping elegant gowns, just in 2001 alone there were so many, while in Miss Universe there were a lot of disappointments from a lot of girls. The only difference is, in Miss Universe, the girls get more exposure since they're very transparent, thanks to the web site, press site, and all the other Miss U fan sites. Even if you're a non finalist, a lot of people will still remember a particular girl. Though Miss World 2001 had a lot of beautiful girls, I remember Misses Russia and Ukraine gave very lame answers and Bing Li was given the impression of being not so bright because the interpreter did not give her justice.

But this year's Miss Universe was really a competitive one. Though I have to agree that the calibre of the European and African girls are better in MW than in MU. But that's the opposite case for the Latinas.

For years I could give a list of oh so many girls in MW that could create waves in MU. There's still a second chance for them.

The only thing I like in MW are the calibre of the girls, but production wise, marketing wise- they're so boring. And medyo madaya sila when it comes sa list of countries, para lang masabi they have more delegates than in MU. Like what they did when they sacked Miss United Kingdom and placed Misses England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland instead- that pa lang instant 4 delegates agad. And when did Hawaii became a country? And not to mention the issue with Tahiti when they had an issue with Madame de Fontenay's Miss France Org.

And Miss U always make it a point to have new "pakulo" every year.

And I just noticed that Curacao and Dominican Republic did not send a delegate in MW last year.

The basic reason why Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland are represented indivually is due to the reason that the respective poltical divisions in Britain were able to establish autonomy. With regards to Tahiti, up to the present it is still a dependency of France, like Aruba and Curacao belonging to the Netherlands, Cayman Islands, Turks and Caicos, etc, belonging to Great Britain. Also, i concede to the fact that Miss Universe's prodcutions is better, actually way better than Miss World, but the latters involvement with charities is far more better. During the reign of Jacqueline Aguilera as Miss World, the pageant helped built a school in war-torn Bosnia and Herzegovina and is very much involve in charities in particular the Variety Club's. With regards to Hawaii, if they want to send delegates let them. It's been a practice at Miss International. We all know that Hawaii is part of the United State, but basically its distinctly Hawaiian and very different. On the other hand Miss Universe may have new pakulo every year, but on ceratin nstances it bombed. I really like what Miss World did, when they let the people be involved with the pageant in the "You Decide Show", nothing can beat that. Also I recognize that in last year's Miss Universe it had some segments which were borrowed from Miss World, like the interviews of people in different places of the islands. Such method has been exhausted by Miss World. Last even if UK were represented as is, the pageant will still have more delegates.

Actually the "You decide show" has created a lot of anomalies, a lot of people were really skeptic about it. It would give come countries a bigger advantages over the others. It isn't fool proof. There's the matter of "palakasan" system- in a sense some countries having a bigger population, internet access, etc. compared to the others.

Can you freshen my memory about a certain Miss U segment when people got interviewed all over the islands.

A perfect example of Miss Universe having new "pakulo" every year is it's Miss U website. At least now we get to watch the girls in the prelims, we get to know them better through the Arpeggio close ups, and they even have this "Around the World Tour" in the fun stuff section. Like what Joseph Vitug's review about this year's Miss U, he recommended the website for being very informative.

Regarding Hawaii sending a delegate, Miss World seems to be more lax when it comes to country participation than in Miss Universe. It seems ther people in Miss U are more technical when it comes to this. And Hawaii being PART of the USA already, it should not be allowed to have a seperate delegate, because it gives the USA an unfair advantage over the others. So it means they have two girls representing the USA instead of one. Unlike Puerto Rico, US Virgin Islands, Guam, Northern Marianas, etc- being only US territories though not truelly absorbed by the US because they are still independent in some ways.

It doesn't get any bigger than the Miss Universe pageant. But once again the event is embroiled in a controversy, and this one is a beauty.

Miss Lebanon Christina Sawaya has dropped out because she won't compete in a pageant alongside Miss Israel. Miss Isreal, Yamit Har-Noy, says, “That's too bad that she couldn't be here, but what can I say.”

Yamit told “Extra” that the trouble is all about the bloody violence in the Middle East. The situation is so ugly, the two beauty queens can't be photographed together for fear of being exiled, or worse, when they return home. She says, “It's a difficult time for Israel. I hope everything would be okay.”

In Puerto Rico, where the pageant is being held, the rumors were that Miss Israel couldn't even wear her sash for security reasons.

As for other contestants, most, like Miss Egypt, were upset by the controversy at the pageant. She says, “It has nothing to do with politics and I don't want to talk about anything related to politics.”

This isn't the first furor to rock Miss Universe's world. Last year, miss Israel wore a bulletproof vest and Miss France was rumored to really be a man. Well, she wasn't.

Now pageant owner Donald Trump says this year's controversy is even more troubling. He says, “It's sad really sad. You've got women who don't like each other now.”

But Trump, always the businessman, will just keep his eye on the prize.

Nang magmatigas si Sandico sa pagtutol ay napundi umano si Lacson at sinuntok ang babae. Hindi pa nakuntento, sinipa at sinabunutan pa umano ng naghuhuramentadong negosyante ang kasintahan bago kinalmot ang mukha ng dalaga.

Matapos ito, kinaladkad din umano ng suspek ang biktima at halos ilampaso sa sahig ng garahe.

Nakakuha naman ng tiyempo si Sandico at nakahulagpos kay Lacson kaya nagawa nitong magtatakbo at magkulong sa loob ng kanyang bahay.

Hindi na ito nasundan ni Lacson subalit ayon na rin kay Sandico, bago umalis ng kanyang bahay ang nagwawalang boyfriend ay nagsisigaw pa ito at pinagbantaan siyang papatayin maging ang kanyang pamilya.

Ayon pa kay Sandico, desidido siyang tuluyang kasuhan si Lacson. “There was grave threat. He threatened me and my family... scratched my face and pushed me down the floor of the garage which was real cement,” pahayag pa ni Sandico.

Kaugnay nito, pinaghahanap naman ng pulisya si Lacson na ngayo’y pinaniniwalaang nagtatago na matapos malamang dumiretso sa pulisya ang kanyang binugbog na kasintahan.

I have no regrets on Mahara McKay winning Miss Switzerland 2000, she has superb catwalk skills and even if her gown was the same gonw she wore in her national pageant, in Miss World and Miss Universe, she really carried it very well. That is not an easy task to do, for some it would look really dull, but instead she shined.

Miss Jamaica World 2002 Finalists Selected

TWENTY beautiful, young women were, on Wednesday night, chosen to go forward to the finals of the 2002 Miss Jamaica World beauty contest where they will vie for over J$5 million in prizes.

A total of 42 girls entered the eliminations but by the time the judges had chosen their top 20, a number of contestants who might have made it to the finals had they entered in any other year were not able to make the cut.

The three county winners automatically made it to the finals. These are Miss Middlesex Kerry-Ann Blackwood, 19, who wears the sash Miss China Delight; Miss Cornwall, Sacha Davis, 23, whose sash is that of Miss Singer Sewing Machine, and Miss Surrey Rashida Gopie, 20, who wears the sash Miss Touch Of Elegance.

For the first time, this year a total of $2.2 million worth of scholarships will be given out to the top five girls. This will consist of three associate degree, two bachelors degree and one Master's in Business Administration (MBA) scholarships.

Additionally, $10,000 each will be up for grabs for the winners of the sectional prises for best legs, best smile and most congenial. The winner of the best skin tone award will receive $15,000.

The fair-sized audience that turned up for the eliminations, apart from cheering on their favourite girls, were entertained by singer Richie Stephens, US rapper Lil Zane and Wayne Marshall, who brought on fellow DJ Elephant Man.

The finals of the Miss Jamaica World contest will be August 31 with the winner travelling to Abuja, Nigeria to represent Jamaica in the Miss World Pageant, later this year.

Speaking of Miss Hong Kong, does anyone know Miss Hong Kong 2001? She was supposed to be sent to Bayamon, but as you all know the Miss HK Organizers had a fight with the Miss U Org. I know she was a major stunner, one of the strong girls from HK in recent years. But too bad, saka I read an article before one of the reasons why they did not bother to send her because of the pessimistic attitude of the Miss HK Org., saying that they don't bother sending the Miss HKs to Miss Universe because they don't get in the top 10 anyway. Then, if that's how they think then undeserving talaga girls nila. Hoping somebody could get the Miss U franchise from them. As if they get noticed in Miss World also? What a waste that they were once played host to Miss U.
