i was watching PIPOL last night and one of their featured personalities was PATRICIA BORROMEO. they flashed pictures of patricia with her friends, and one of them was MAVIS MANOTOC.
e, i remember in the early to mid-90s, their names were always mentioned as potential beauty queens. they have one thing in common, their mothers were previous bb. pilipinas winners.
with their good looks, height, intelligence and pedigree, i think they could have been sure winners. what do you guys think?

these are semifinal scores, not preliminary? it doesn't follow that she's the best philippine delegate ever. it depends on the set of judges din. there are years na sobrang taas ng magbigay ng rating ng mga judges. in the 80s it was not common for judges to give 9++ scores for the candidates. in 1999, the highest semifinal score for swimsuit was only 9.35. and in the last edition of miss u delegates' scores in the semis ranged from 7.9 to 9.8.
anyways, we really don't know the scores in bb. pilipinas, but these, in my opinion, are the best:
best gown performance: cara subijano, (RU - yedda marie kittilstvedt)
best swimsuit performance: nina alagao, (RU - abbygale arenas)
best interview: nina alagao, (RU - yedda kittilstvedt)
about patricia faessler, i think there was a news before na she was engaged to a filipino. whatever happpened to that?

MingTsai >> Hi there!
Yeah true. It doesn't necessarily follow that she's the best Filipina delegate... Mataas din talaga mag-score ang mga judges during MU94...
The highest semi-final swimsuit score during MU99 was 9.33.
I agree with your choices regarding the best interview, swimsuit and evening gown performances in Bb. Pilipinas.

TVB, the company that holds Ms Hong Kong license, also holds an annual Ms Chinese International Pageant joined by different gals around the world :D Young palang to..it started in 1988 and I think Manila (yup, they use the cities name in the sash and not the country kase minsan 2 cities in the country *** sumasali :) ) has been sending candidates since 1994 (my rough estimate since I saw Manila winning Ms Friendship that year :hmm: )anyways, here were the two candidates from 2001-2002....share ko lang, product yan ng boredom hehehe...

Facts about Ms Chinese International:
-First back to back crowns: Vancouver - '01 and '02
-Winningest : Canada - Vancouver won twice, Toronto won twice and Montreal won once :D
-Besides Vancouver, the two time winners are: Hong Kong (also the first winner of the said pageant), Singapore, Toronto.
-Interesting to note was when Singapore won on a year ('91, '96) , Toronto will follow ('92, '97)and this happened twice!
-4 was the number of times Hong Kong was excluded in the top 3!
- Manila only won a special award - Ms Friendship and was never a top 3! :belat:

YOU ARE MY STAR with the Little Sisters
You are my star. You light my way.
You brighten all my nights and make my day.
You are my star, and even more,
You are the friend that I've been waiting for,
And if I start to lose my way,
I search the sky and find out where?you are.
Then I call on you to see me through
Because you are, because you are my star.
You are my star. I look at you
And feel my secret wish is coming true.
You are my star. I'm not alone
Now that I have one of my very own.
And even when the clouds appear
And cover all the other stars?there are.
I look up to you and you shine through
Because you are, because you are my star.
When you wish upon a star,
Makes no difference who you are.
Everything your heart desires
Will come to you.
When your heart is in your dreams
No request is too extreme.
When you wish upon a star
As dreamers do.
Fate is kind, fate is kind.
She brings to those who love
The sweet fulfillment of
Their secret longing.
Like a bolt, out of the blue,
Fate steps in and sees you through.
When you wish upon a star,
Your dreams, your dreams come true.
{break "la-la-la-la"}
Like a bolt, out of the blue,
Fate steps in and sees you through.
When you wish upon a star,
Your dreams (you light my way)
Come (you make my day)
True?.
You are my star. My secret wish is coming true.
You are my star.
You are my star.

wishes for miss earth 2002
1.no more chicken and rices to the ladies
2.find another hotel shun intercontinental bcoz it's too chinese.no more chinese food pls.
3.the pageant should be held in a bigger venue like araneta coliseum or picc
4.they should have three special like what they've done in miss universe 1994.imagined this
miss earth mabuhay
representing the delegates in their native costume and showing them individually like in miss world u decide or showing them a la survivor so that viewers will have a closer look.
miss earth presentation show
show the prelim competition in swimsuit and gown and the talent potion.
miss earth coronation night
the finals of the pageant and the major presentation
5.better pageant production not like what we saw last summer it was so boring and the evening gown event sucks.less performers and better stage design.we are tired of looking at those abs-cbn type of stage which they used in bb. pilipinas in 1997.past is past.
6.more delegates and more news about the pageant.last year there were no news about the pageant only a handful have ofpapers given interest.they should realize that the pageant is now world class and recognized as one of the 4 major pageants in the world.
7. better host but i do like bobby yan and the two ladies but i prefer edu manzano as the main host and his two lady co host should be catharina svensson and varalat suwanalat of thailand.
8.they should invite foreign artist to perform in the pageant.
9.show the scores with better design just like in the miss universe.the scoreboard look like a grade skoolers design.they should have better font sizes and colors.
10.have well known personalities and beauty experts and environtmentalist and designers as judges.
11.pls no pimping of beauties as what others accused caruousel in the past miss asia pacific pageants.
12.bigger prizes and better media mileage of the contest.pls give out the non major awards during prelim judging.

who will be usa's rep in miss asia pacific 2002 and miss earth 2002 or miss international and miss world.i hope it would be................
larissa meek for miss world
janet sutton for miss international
lindsay douglas for miss earth
liane angus for miss asia pacific
nicole obrien for miss tourism world
there are so many lovely miss usa candidates out there who aged after failing to win any muo and mao state pageants while there are countless of international pageant wating for them to compete and shine, talking about waste of beauty.the best experience for a real beauty queen is competing in an international pageant may it be big or small pageant.
good luck american beauties.
[, :) [/QUOTE] Lindsay Douglas for me should be send to Miss World. With her good looks, poise, intelligence and glamour a lady like that should go to a higher pageant and not Miss Earth. Lindsay or Larissa Meek is the right choice for Miss World. But I think Lindsay was robbed of the Miss USA crown. I'm still in shock why Shauntay Hinton won instead of Ms. Douglas

 Jensie_G! Im hooked on a tv series and I like one of the actress kase gandang ganda ako sa kanya and she looks like a beauty queen to me so that leads to my extensive research on ms hk and ms chinese international :D Shucks...how I wish I am like her or her character hehehe...anyways, salamat sa pag-appreciate kahit paano. :bounce: At least, may dagdag kaalaman na naman tayo, di ba? *okay*
And btw, it's not the first time pala that HK didn't have a rep to MU ...ang dami rin nilang years na hindi sumali and to think na may isa silang winner na double masters degree holder pa and imagine mo na lang *** impact nun sa interview with the brains of hers...hindi sya super ganda, maganda lang un pero the brains...abaahhh...may laban sana un di ba! oh well  tapos *** mga ewan *** hitsura nakakasali sa mu! actually, lately, puro di ko type *** mga winners eh...maliit o kaya cute lang pero hindi maganda! Sasabihin ko sa iyo, mabuti na rin na hindi sumali ang HK this year kase di ko talaga type *** Ms HK eh...magiging thank you girl lang un...cute lang sya eh pero wala talagang oof!
30th anniversary pala ng Ms HK at sana naman they could find a good one to win...back seat na muna dapat *** may potential to be a star. Kase usually, star potential *** tinitingnan dyan sa pageant na yan PERO IN FAIRNESS, marami silang magagaling na artista (Maggie Cheung - she's the 1st one to be a semifinalist on MW and she's Berlin Film Festival queen for 2 or 3 times yata and etc etc.) at model (like Michelle Reis, the cover girl ng L O'real Whitening series or FHM Asia yata un #1 Cristy Cheung) na nadiscover dyan! As in!
May habit pala USA to send Californian blondes sa MW ah... so did it pay off?!? Whats the record so far of the Californian blondes?

Just finished watching Putri Indonesia 2003/Miss Indonesia 2003. Actually it was just accidental because I was just channel surfing. I only caught the top 5 interview, thank God yun ang naabutan ko because I would probably die of boredom since i can't understand Bahasa. Well the only reason why I put up and watched the show because I know OXana would be there. And there she was, she was seated there with the audience. And when the time came for her to strut the stage she was oh so beautiful as ever. Though her gown wasn't really that flattering. Kinda old fashioned, but she really carried it well. And the new crown fits her well to. too bad she spoke Russian and the interpreter Bahasa, so i did not understand what they were talking about. Regarding the winner, well, she's not bad. Actually she has a pretty face and nice bone structure. The funny thing is, the 1st runner up looked more like a man/ drag queen. hehehe
Well we have to wait and see if the Indonesian government won't be a hypocrite again and bar Miss Indonesia in competing in Miss Universe. Thank God i'm not Indonesian. hehehe Quite an irony, for the past years the winner of Miss Universe would always go to Indonesia and be at the Miss Indonesia Pageant even with the fact that Miss Indonesia can't even join Miss Universe. Hoping Bb. would invite Oxana and be here for Bb. Pilipinas 2003. And I've noticed that the Indonesian public wasn't really that ecstatic compared to us pageant crazy Pinoys. She would definitely be receiving a royal welcome if she comes here.

From Pageant.net
In the summer of 1998, Carrie Stroup of North Carolina was crowned Miss United States Teen. She went on to finish as first runner-up at Miss Teen International. She was also Miss Congeniality and winner of the swimsuit award at the international pageant.
People who saw her would say, "She is incredibly cute."

Lara... I agree with you, medyo maganda nga yung winner ng miss indonesia this year. May improvement. Sabi nga ng mom ko, she's pretty! heheh...well my mom is indonesian, kaya para sa kanya lahat ng indones, maganda!! heheh pati yung 1st runner-up!:p

Ako nga nagulat nung lumabas sila Karen for UP..I was saying whoah...sino un...the lakad ba naman is so queenly! Tapos nung close up...abay si karen agustin pala! wow! Actually, mas iba pa nga *** lakad nya kesa kay zora kaya siya una kong napansin tsaka she's so friendly looking. Actually besides dlsu muse na mukhang enjoying her time there, sila karen at zora lang *** mukhang ganun din. *** iba parang ill at ease or snobbish or ewan ko, basta mukhang di masaya eh :confusing:
I think UAAP boasts more brevy of beauties than NCAA *okay* hehehe....
Cute talaga *** sa lasalle, she's so bubbly. The other one, *** taga eng, not so bubbly but pleasant. Ateneo's good looking pero medyo aloof e. Si Karen at Zora lang *** muses na happy looking dun hehehe :bounce:
Lara_D
Jul 14, 2002, 12:44 PM
I too was able to watch the UAAP opening kanina. Of course sa UP side kami. Medyo natulala kami ng mga kasama ko when we saw Karen was one of our muses, she was really sexy and Zora too. Actually I wasn't able to notice Zora because from the place we were seated nakatalikod siya. And their dresses where like the same as the Angelo John opening number dresses back in MU 2000. Yeah it seems they were enjoying themselves. Kulang nalang si Nina Alagao para maging 3 Graces. hehehe sayang... no offense pero nagmukhang mga nene yung mga ibang muses ng ibang schools nung itinapat sa 2 beauty queens na ito. They were really so queenly kanina.
UP FIGHT!!!!!!!
Lara_D
Jul 14, 2002, 12:53 PM
Oh yeah forgot I agree to some extent that the bevy of beauties in the UAAP are better than in the NCAA, but I remember a few years back San Beda got Wilma Doesnt as their muse. It's quite funny actually because naging "slapstick" saka "in your face" kinda way ang pinapalabas ng mga taga Beda. Who would think they would get her for a muse? Since the usual trend for a muse is the mestiza type. And Wilma easily matches the Bedan personality - kwela and magulo. hehehe

My bet to win...
Miss Houston Christie Lee Woods
http://www.misstexasusa.com/miss-contestants/pics/large/Houston-Christie-Woods.jpg
Christie was crowned Miss Teen USA 1996 in August of 1996. She's the 1st and only Texan to win in that pageant. Last year, she was 3rd runner-up in the Miss Texas USA 2002 pageant. She represented Central Texas.
Tomorrow, I believe she will win the coveted crown...

I think someone mentioned this pero talagang panay Miriam benchmark (which is chinita beauty) nga ang mga sumunod sa kanya na bb pilipinas-universe ! haayyy...sana lang wag naman nilang gawing benchmark to for years....kase sabi ni pitoy, nung nanalo si gloria diaz at margie moran, they patterned their benchmark after them which I think they used for what...20 years?!? Nagkataon lang na Miriam got into the place where she is because Janelle got stripped off her crown so the idea of a chinita beauty for MU was not in their minds yata. Oh well

An interesting article about Miss China, Zhuo Ling
Here She Comes! (Will China Ever Be the Same?)
By ELISABETH ROSENTHAL
BEIJING, July 15 — When Zhuo Ling was declared second runner-up at the Miss Universe contest in Puerto Rico in May, the tears and the tiaras masked a secret: because Chinese officials do not approve of such beauty pageants, her "Miss China" title had been bestowed in an underground competition, held despite official threats and bans.
In fact, the Miss China contest nearly did not happen, after officials in the southern city of Enping raided the auditorium. Ms. Zhuo — the first contestant — had just come on stage in a bathing suit when they rushed the dais, shooed out contestants and informed organizers that they had broken the law because cultural events require permits.
Determined nonetheless to have a queen, the judges and contestants sneaked back in at night to restage the event, awarding Ms. Zhuo the crown. But while most Miss Universe contestants got a royal send-off to Puerto Rico, Ms. Zhuo left quietly from the Shanghai airport, escorted to the ticket counter by her father.
"I was lugging two huge suitcases," she said. "I felt very alone."
With her big eyes and earnest delivery, Ms. Zhuo, a 20-year-old dance-student-turned-model, hardly seems a subversive force. She says she wants to serve her country, and when the judges in Puerto Rico asked about her role models, she quickly cited her father.
But her strange odyssey displays Communist officialdom's deep ambivalence about the vibrant consumer culture that has evolved in China's cities today — a Frankenstein's monster that was unleashed by the Communist Party's own market reforms, but that quickly moved beyond its understanding and control.
"This is 2002, we've joined the W.T.O., we've been selected to hold the 2008 Olympics," said Shi Sizhi, a private Beijing businessman who organized the Miss China contest, with approval from the Miss Universe organization in New York. "All I'm trying to do is to bring Miss Universe to China. What's to be afraid of here?"
At a first pass, Ms. Zhuo's travails are indeed perplexing, given that more young Chinese girls aspire to be models than model workers these days.
But there have been no actual beauty contests in China since the Communist takeover in 1949, and that apparently makes some officials nervous when it comes to approving such an event. Some argue that modeling involves skill, while beauty is more superficial — a bourgeois concern — even though the Miss Universe contest involved speeches and other performances.
A more important issue might have been control over the nation's image. Chinese officials apparently could not fathom yielding power over the choice of such a representative to a private group.
Mr. Shi spent four years appealing, unsuccessfully, to the Ministry of Culture and other government offices for approval to hold a Miss China contest here. "No one was willing to take the responsibility," he said.
This year he thought he had a wink and a nod when culture officials, while refusing to issue the legally required approval, offered the pesky promoter an olive branch: "We won't criticize you, but keep it quiet and don't make it a big deal," they said.
To comply, he scheduled the Miss China pageant in the obscure city of Enping in Guangdong Province, without much publicity.
To prepare for Puerto Rico, Mr. Shi's business, the Beijing Golden International Investment and Consulting Company, hired a designer to make Ms. Zhuo's wardrobe. It bought her plane ticket as well.
"Generally when you're picked as your country's representative there are some special events and you're given some tutoring," said Ms. Zhuo in a telephone interview from her home in Shanghai. "I didn't have a chance to help my country. And I didn't have a former Miss China at my side. It made me pretty sad."
She and Mr. Shi fretted that Chinese authorities might prevent her from going. But when she picked up her visa at the United States Embassy marked "Miss China, going to Miss Universe Contest," they relaxed.
So it was something of a miracle when Ms. Zhuo came from underground in China to take third place on stage in Puerto Rico, trailing only Miss Russia and Miss Panama. But with her surprise win beamed to television sets all over the world, it became increasingly hard to keep her existence under wraps.
Ms. Zhuo's modeling agency in Shanghai quickly capitalized on the win, arranging activities in San Francisco and Honolulu.
"I have plans for her to go into movies and TV," said her agent, Song Meiyin. When Ms. Zhuo arrived back in Shanghai last month, a host of reporters met her at the airport, although the state-controlled news organizations have said little about her as yet.
Mr. Shi said official attitudes had run hot and cold toward Ms. Zhuo's amazing victory. The city government of Shanghai, which earlier this year had threatened to cancel a local Miss China preliminary contest, recently sent her as its representative on a business delegation to France.
In Puerto Rico, Ms. Zhuo was surprised to find government delegations from Beijing and from China's eastern Shandong Province — both vying to be the host of a future pageant.
Mr. Shi hopes that Ms. Zhuo's victory will change official attitudes and help bring a Miss Universe finals to China by 2004.
Ms. Zhuo herself has remained ever gracious, mostly keeping above the fray.
"If you're the first at anything there are always some difficulties," she said, exercising the poise and diplomacy that wins pageants. "I hope my win will help Chinese change their minds about this and see that it's an opportunity for our country to be on the world stage."

China hosts Miss Universe 2004...
Tapos sa 2005 ay Pinas naman... Dapat talaga sa 2004 tayo magho-host kaso National Elections naman. Our government and press will prioritize that over Miss Universe, di ba?
And besides, the Araneta Center will undergo a huge expansion just for the big, big event...

So far based on the available pictures of the Miss Venezuela 2002 candidates, here's my bet to go to Panama in May...
Vanessa Fanessi- she was 1st RU during the Miss Tourism World 2001 pageant held in Manizales, Colombia in September last year. (She competed with our very own Zorah Andam in that pageant)
She earlier won the Miss Millennium 2000 crown in Finland.... :)

Vanessa is sooooo stunning! Just wait till Osmel moves his muscle on this babe... She'll definitely make it to the Top 5 in Panama next year...

There's nothing much to learn about the Ms Internet WWW site...it just rants on and on about the schedules of the other sister pageants:shrug2: All Ive got it its Great Britain based. Better check the past pages on how is Great Britain distinguished from England and UK uli...hehehe....
Sister pageants are the ff: (some really do really ring bell)
Ms Tourism World - where Zora joined last year :)
Model of the World
Miss Bikini World
Model of the Universe
Miss Great Britain
Mr Tourism World
Basically, its a beauty and MODEL intensive competition so X-Factor is the most important ingredient after all. Hmm..that will be a tough one. Unless may modelling background *** candidate natin, I dont think she will be able to create an impact.

Regarding China 2004 and Phils 2005, it would be great but will the ORGanizers agree to that setting? I mean you were just voicing an opinion. but i would say that going back to the same region for the contest would not be on their minds.....

TOP 3 FAVORITE VENUES OF MISS UNIVERSE (besides the USA of course) :)
#1 MEXICO- Mexico hosted the Miss Universe pageant thrice.
The very first Mexican venue was Acapulco, where South Africa's Margaret Gardiner won in 1978. Cancun, a tropical haven located in the Yucatan province, played host to Miss Universe 1989. Holland's Angela Visser won by a landslide. Mexico City was the 3rd and last host. The pageant was broadcast live on May 20, 1993. Puerto Rico's Dayanara Torres won.
#2 PUERTO RICO- Puerto Rico is tied with Mexico in hosting Miss Universe thrice.
Actually, when satellite communications improved during the 70's, the Miss Universe pageant was finally able to travel to distant shores. It landed on Dorado-- the very 1st Puerto Rican venue. Australia's Kerry Ann Wells won that year, in 1972. The 2nd venue was Bayamon. Hometown queen Denise Quiñones took the entire pageant by storm. San Juan is the 3rd venue... Russia's Oksana Fyodorova bagged the crown last May...
and...
#3 PHILIPPINES- The Philippines hosted the pageant twice! We are damn lucky pa rin kahit papaano! :)
Spain's Amparo Muñoz won on July 21, 1974 amidst signal #2 of a tropical storm. The majestic Folks Art Theater, which was completed in a record of only 77 days, played host to the big event. India's Sushmita Sen won the second time around we hosted the pageant. She was crowned on May 21, 1994 at the Philippine International Convention Center.

This afternoon, I was able to watch Discovery Channel and Adventure. The show featured Shanghai, and the first thing that came to my mind was Zhuo Ling. A few months back during MU 2002, a lot of people where complaining why Miss China chose a cheongsam (what the western world calls it) or the Qipao- that's how the Chinese call it. Everyone thought it was too common and very plain. But I think I found the answer in the show. They interviewed an 86 year old tailor, who has been making qipaos for 60 years and his shop is known for making it. He said that, "Only Shanghaianese women can where the qipao well and with great elegance." Since it is in Shanghai where the qipao gained its popularity. No two qipaos are the same.

But Japan beat us in being the first Asian host or winner?? limot ko na.

With Christie who happens to be Miss Teen USA 1996 and Mandy Jeffrey, Miss Texas Teen USA 1995 and Stephanie Guerero's failure to win this year it only shows that the Miss Texas USA pageant is very competitve, or the most competitive of all state pageant for MUO. A friend of mine who grew up in Texas told me that plenty of ladies try out for this title and that for one to win you must win in your particular area. FOr example if your hometown is in the Dallas area, you must first try for the Miss Dallas pageant before being able to compete for the top plum. How I wish the Philippine pageant is like that. What you think Jensie?

If there's one state pageant that everyone is taking so seriously, it's the Miss Texas USA pageant! It's true that aspirants must compete in their own respective "district" or "county" pageant before they get to compete in the state pageant itself. I find this very organized and systematic.
Yeah I agree with you... Our local pageants are the exact opposite. Aspirants simply submit their applications, walk through a judging panel and voila! If she makes it through that panel, she's automatically an official contestant in the pageant. From hundreds of aspirants, only an average of 30 makes it to the official roster of candidates yearly...
Sooner or later, we must adapt the selection process done during the Miss Texas USA pageant...

I know. Imagine its just the state level. I'm sure the atmosphere at MTXUSA is way better than that of Miss USA. Having 126 girls for crown to compete in the national level. By the way, do you know how many times Mandy Jeffrey has entered the Miss Texas USA search? I know she competed a couple of times already, don't know the exact number. Hope Christie wins it next year.

power(bubbles) >> Mandy Jeffreys competed in the Miss Texas USA pageant for 4 times.
-She was Miss Lubbock during the 1999 pageant. She won 3rd runner-up that year.
-She was Miss Permian Basin during the 2001 pageant. She was 1st runner-up that year.
-She was Miss Austin during the 2002 pageant. She was only a semi-finalist that year.
-This year, she's Miss Central Texas. She won 3rd runner-up.
I wonder if she'll still compete next year... :)

33 YEARS AGO TODAY...
July 19, 1969- "The United States conquered the moon... The Philippines conquered the universe..."
18-year old Gloria Aspillera Diaz was crowned MISS UNIVERSE 1969 in Miami Beach, Florida. She's the 3rd Asian and 1st ever Filipina to win the coveted crown...
Host Bob Barker: In the next day or so, a man will land on the moon. If a man from the moon landed in your hometown, what would you do to entertain him?
Gloria Diaz: Oh, ah, it’s the same thing I’ll do. I think if he’s been in the moon for so long, when he comes over, he wants to change, I guess.

For Doogan,
Lara even wore this particular light green sari thrice. Once when she was still Miss India, after she won, and while in the welcome reception during Miss U 2001. To think being Miss Universe she would have been given a new wardrobe. Bakit after a year yun pa rin suot niya? Kaya puro recycled clothes din siya diba?

Jillian Parry look so beautiful, so fresh and so young, didn't even think she was already 18 then. I hope she joins Miss USA. Btw, what do you think of Nicole's chances at Miss USA? I remeber in the telecast of MTU how arrogant she was according to Julie and Ali and remember her reaction when she lost to Jillian? she said "damn" after hearing her name as 1st r/u. I hope she had changed. I think think she'll do well tough. A top 3 finish perhaps. But too early to tell.

Remember Kelly Lloyd? She was 1st runner-up to Vermont's Charlotte Lopez during the Miss Teen USA 1993 pageant. She won Miss Indiana USA 2002 and represented her state right at her own hometown last March 1 during the Miss USA 2002 pageant. She won 2nd runner-up that fateful night.
For all we know, Nicole might just be Texas' 9th Miss USA... :)

There's nothing wrong with wearing the very same dress or outfit all over and all over again... Lalung-lalo na if kaya namang dalhin...
Miss Universe 2000 Lara Dutta is the best example indeed! She even wore this black-gold native dress for a number of times: during photo shoots, evening functions, when she visited Claudia Moreno and Eva Ekvall in Caracas, and even during the Miss Universe 2001 Presentation Show...

Lara_D >> Here's what I have to say regarding Miss Universe 1989... :)
-the BEST Miss Universe production of the eighties...
-I just love Porntip's sexy and seductive way of talking and waving...
-Emma Samms was one lousy and boring anchor... blecccch...
-Though Karen Baldwin was stunning, she was also boring... too canned...
-John Forsythe was just TOO OLD to host a pageant like Miss Universe. Mukha siya tuloy D.O.M.
-Miss Mexico Adrianna Abascal nearly tripped face first when she accidentally stepped on her gown during the evening gown competition... Dinaan na lang sa landi afterwards to charm the judges.... hehe...
-Miss Finland Aasa Loewdahl's heels almost got stuck sa steps as she descended from the Ruins of Palenque stage set during the evening gown competition...
-Malaki yung air time ni Miss Philippines Sarah Jane Paez... palagi siyang kasama ni Miss USA & Miss Puerto Rico... She really was a favorite!
-Here's Sara Jane's intro during the Parade of Nations: "I'm a speech communications major and I wanna be a public relations officer. Ako po si Sarah Jane Paez!"
-Miss Thailand Yonlada Ronladi was a 100% certified carbon copy of Kris Aquino!
-Miss USA Gretchen Polhemus worked as a cattle broker prior to winning the Miss USA 1989 crown...
-Miss Sweden Louise Drevenstam worked as a hair dresser!
-Miss Chile Macarena Mina was clearly robbed! Ang ganda niya! Nilampaso talaga siya ng judges...
power(bubbles) >> Let's not forget about Tennessee! After Allison Alderson's failure to make it to the Top 10 this year, the Volunteer State will surely take revenge next year!!!
Two of the hottest possibilities of bagging the crown are Candace Marie Sanders and Stephanie Culberson.
-Candace was 1st runner-up during the Miss Tennessee USA 2001 and 2002 pageants. She just might win this time around!
-Stephanie was 2nd runner-up during the Miss America 2002 pageant... She's a Mandy Moore (when still a blonde) clone!

Chinese City Likely to Host Miss World Contest
Sanya, a tropical tourist city on south China's Hainan Island, is likely to become the first Chinese city ever to host the Miss World beauty pageant, says event organizer Julia Morley.
Sanya, a tropical tourist city on south China's Hainan Island, is likely to become the first Chinese city ever to host the Miss World beauty pageant, says event organizer Julia Morley.
Morley made a five-day trip to Sanya recently to inspect preparations for the China section of the contest, which will be held in September and produce a contestant for the 2003 Miss World finals in Mexico.
While expressing satisfaction with Sanya's tourism environment and the preparatory work, she hinted at the future possibility of Sanya hosting the finals of the annual contest.
Sanya was a beautiful and romantic city, she said. It had hosted several high-profile modeling contests and may successfully host the Miss World beauty pageant as well.
Xinhua has learned that Sanya authorities are actively working toward the goal of hosting the event in the next few years.
Morley, who took over the pageant's reins from her husband Eric Morley, founder of the event, after his death in 2000, is accompanied on her visit by Miss World for 2001, Nigeria's Agbani Darego, and noted film director V.G. Harris.

I hope the 1st RU in Miss USA would once again automatically compete in Miss World... just like what happened during the 80's up to 1991...

Just like this year when there were 2 Venezuelans competing in Miss Universe, back in 1989, there were 2 Swedes. Lisa Eva Larsdotter Ljung was tall alright, but she was really stiff and tensed. I saw it in the tape, she does not have the vavavoom aura of a Miss Venezuela, well actually back in those days the Miss Venezuelas weren't really that aggresive fighters we see with the Miss Venezuelas now. In my opinion, they started sending fighters during Carolina Izak's time- after her, the trend continues. And it was also in 1989 that there wasn't any final question. I was shocked after calling the top 5, they immediately scored them who would be the winner and the runners up.

Miss Venezuela 1989 Lisa Eva Larsdotter Ljung is indeed the 2nd tallest Venezuelan to compete in Miss Universe! She stands 6 feet 1 inch! (Actually ka-height lang niya sa Denyse Floreano!)
She was born and raised in Stockholm, Sweden. She was born of a Swedish mother and Venezuelan father.

Lara_D >> Yeah true! Na-feel ko lang yung pulverizing power ng Venezuela starting kay Carolina Izsak!
Nung 80's, not all Venezuelan reps were strong... Lisa Ljung is an example all right... She lacked stage presence and was easily overshadowed by Miss Sweden herself! :)
Yeah wala ngang final Q&A... I believe the pageant's results would still be the same either way... Angela Visser took Cancun by storm!
