A Beautiful Wedding
The Romualdez-Kittilstvedt Wedding
by Donnie C. Ramirez
In 1995, Martin Romualdez visited Cebu City on business. In one of the city’s malls, the handsome young lawyer saw a photo of a beautiful Cebuana. Attracted by her exquisite features, he asked his friends who she is and was told that her name is Yedda Marie Kittilstvedt, a top fashion model.
They finally met, not exactly by chance, at the house of Yedda’s grandfather, the noted lawyer and labor leader Democrito Mendoza. When Yedda went to Manila to compete in the 1996 Bb. Pilipinas contest, Martin became a regular caller at the Kittilstvedt’s residence in Manila.
“Even then, he was very persistent,” Yedda recalls. When she ultimately won the Bb. Pilipinas International title and went to Kanazawa, Japan for the Miss International Pageant, the enamored young barrister followed and became her most avid supporter. Martin’s persistence paid off because soon after the pageant, he and Yedda became the town’s most inseparable and most watchable young twosome.
On November 1999, the lovebirds quietly flew to Hong Kong where they were married in civil rites. A top secret affair, only their immediate families witnessed the ceremonies. Finally, last Feb. 4, Martin and Yedda officially sealed their union at elegant rites solemnized by Leyte Archbishop Pedro Dean at the Santuario de San Antonio in Forbes Park, Makati. Yedda looked every inch a real-life princess in her Grace Kelly-inspired champagne gown created by Inno Sotto.
Martin is one of three sons and one daughter of Ambassador and former Leyte Governor Benjamin “Kokoy” Romualdez and the former Juliet Gomez. His two brothers are Philip, married to PDI president Alexandra “Sandy” Prieto-Romualdez; and Daniel, an architect and interior designer based in New York whose work has been featured in prestigious publications like Vogue and Town and Country. The groom’s only sister Marean is married to Thomas Pompidou, a grandson of the former President of France.
Yedda is the middle child among 6 children of Norwegian-Filipino engineer Joseph Kittilstvedt and the former Maria Yedda Mendoza of Cebu. She studied at the Assumption Convent in Manila and St. Theresa’s College Cebu and finished her nursing degree at Cebu Doctor’s College.
The church was packed when Martin and Yedda made their marital vows. Tony Padilla’s floral settings in the church set the elegant tone of the affair, and Flower World carried it masterfully at the dinner reception held at the Romualdez’ residence which was conveniently situated a few meters away from Santuario de San Antonio.
The Manila Chamber Choir sang hymns and romantic ballads at the nuptial rites, while Bernie Pasamba’s String Ensemble and the Onda Latina Band entertained the guests at the reception. Martin Nievera, the groom’s namesake and favorite singer, thrilled both the newlyweds and their friends by performing some of his hits.
The humongous fondant cake designed by Yedda herself and executed by Heny Sison ran the entire length of a buffet table. It was strewn with fresh and candied magnolias, the bride’s favorite flowers. Via Mare, personally supervised by Glenda Barretto, catered the dinner with its usual seamless efficiency, while Brides Maids & Co. expertly coordinated the wedding details.
The giveaways were very special, personally picked by the newlyweds themselves. The ladies received an exquisitely wrapped box containing four lipsticks in Yedda’s favorite shades. “Each color represents a memorable place that Martin and I have visited. Red is for Paris, nude is for Amanpulo, mauve for Florence and pink is for Hong Kong,” Yedda explains.
Unlike in most weddings where only the ladies get the souvenirs, the gentlemen also went home with mementos of the wedding. For their male friends, the couple gave away a pair of soaps – one in lemon scent and the other peppermint. Lemon must be for Martin and peppermint is for his lovely bride.
The wedding entourage was a mix of Manila, Leyte and Cebu dignitaries. Principal sponsors were former First Lady Imelda Marcos, society diva Imelda Ongsiako, grand dame Chito Madrigal-Collantes, top Cebu socialite Amparito Lhuillier and jeweler Mariquita Yeung, the bride’s aunts Dr. Carmen Velez-Ting, Perla Luna and Rita Soriano.
Their distinguished male counterparts were Cebu Congressman Eddie Gullas, Veterans Bank chairman Col. Emmanuel de Ocampo, the bride’s uncles Atty. Francisco Villaruz and Jerry Lerma, publishing taipan’s son Enrique Yap, businessman Enrique Luy and Equitable Bank chairman Peter Go Pailan.
The groom’s brothers Philip and Daniel were best men, while Yedda’s sisters Melanie and Lily (married to Mandaluyong Congressman Jose Mari Gonzalez’ son) were maid of honor and matron of honor, respectively. The bride’s two other sisters, Lisa and Josephine and cousin Abigail Mendoza were bridesmaids, and Martin’s cousins Martin Manotoc (a.k.a. Bench model Borgy) and Jed Gomez, along with Yedda’s only brother Raykito were groomsmen.
Rounding up the entourage were Marean Pompidou and investment banker Michael Meagher (candle sponsors); Sandy Romualdez and Thomas Pompidou (veil); Yedda’s best friend Frances dela Serna-Quisumbing. The little attendants were Ilocos Norte Gov. Bongbong Marcos’ sons Simon and Alessandro as ring bearer and bible bearer; Franco Quisumbing, coin bearer; and Vica Gonzales, Tiela Gaerlan and Allyssa Nisce, flower girls.
Martin and Yedda, whose beautiful romance is by itself a long and never-ending honeymoon, plan to take time off for a romantic Mediterranean cruise in June. (“Near summer,” Yedda says, “when it’s not too cold anymore.”)

Question lang again, may instance na ba na nagkasabay ang Olympics Summer Games at FIFA World Cup in a particular year?
Summer Games and World Cup never and ulikely to happen. But since 1994 the World Cup and the Winter Olympics have been staged on the same year since the International Olympic Committee amended its charter in 1988 and opted to stage the Summer and Winter Games separately. The last time the Summer and Winter Games was staged was at the same calendar year was 1992 hosted by Barcelona, Spain and Albertville, France. After Lillehammer, Norway hosted the Winter Games in 1994, the only time it was staged two years apart each other the Winter Games have been staged every four years with 1994 as the exception.

Wow! :D
The reason why Venezuela has yet to qualify to the World Cup is because baseball is the national sport there and not soccer. But at the moment we might see a Venezuela at the World Cup in the near future since they have improved greatly and even defeated one of the teams who played at the World Cup which was Uruguay. On the other hand in the Philippines, during the Philippines had a greta sports program. It was during the 1910's during the another reagional sports meet (forgot the name) where the Philippines enjoyed soccer success by defeating China. But the problem here is that soccer is not a priority here and not everyone is willing to play the sport. Also funding which is the most important and another important factor:discipline. Hope

Pero, since 1998, sabay ang Winter Olympic Games sa FIFA World Cup. Dati kasi magkasabay ang Summer at WInter Olympics, pero ginawa nilang 2 years apart ang Summer at Winter Olympics, para siguro hindi mainip ang tao, kasi mahirap nga namang every 4 years ang hihintayin nila to watch an Olympic match.
Correction : The Winter Olympics and World Cup have been staged on the same year since 1994 and not 1998. And there is a more deeper reason why the Olympic Charter was amended, and I'm sure it is not because the people will not be patient to wait the Olympics. In fact it will make them even more excited than impatient. But it my opinion it was more on the economic part for the International Olympic Committee and as well as for the bidding countries since most of them have to send two candidates one to bid for the Summer edition and the other for the Winter edition. I think it's not right to let Maan Bayot compete at Miss International just because Tin-tin Alzar won the minor pageant with less than 20 delegates. I don't think Miss International would be as strict as Miss Universe concerning a delegate winning a minor pageant. You know naman Miss International Organizers, still decades behind MU and MW with their policies. Miss Tourism International Black Sea was not even competitive and heard of so Miss International Organizers wouldn't mind about this matter.
I think Tin-tin Alzar was sent to compete so she'd have an experience already. She's considered to be the weakest of the three Bb. Pilipinas. So she really needs the exposure and stuff. They already had their international training, hadn't they?
Kristine Alzar pa rin! *okay*

Even if Tin-Tin won Miss Tourism International i don't see anything wrong why she should not compete at Miss International. Look at Miss Venezuela winners from 1983-86 they all went to the Miss South America and bagged the title. Miss Venezuela 1987 also competed in Miss South AMerica were she was a runner-up.

I dont like her. I think USA winning seven (7) Miss Universe crowns was just too much. Good thing, the Miss USA sash is not a guarantee for a semi-final slot anymore even if the American delegate is not worthy of it. Take the case of Shauntay Hinton. I've always thought that had they let Brooke Lee wear the Miss Turks and Caicos sash, she wouldn't even be noticed.
I'm sobrang grateful Miss International Organizers didn't do that with letting their dorky Misses Japan wear the expensive crown. Ok na kahit semi-finals.
I'm hoping though that it would not happen here with Miss Earth. Yung deserving filipinas to win Miss Earth lang talaga. No politics involved.
C'est tout..

I have a sick feeling that whenever MUO cannot afford to house a foreigner for one full year, they resort to influencing the judges to proclaim the USA delegate as Miss Universe. It might be that Americans working with (three) fellow Americans (MU, MT USA, M USA) is more cost-efficient and less of a hassle.
IMHO!

Kristine is Miss Tourism International
FUNFARE by Ricardo F. Lo
The Philippine Star 07/02/2002
http://www.philstar.com/philstar/main/20020702/images/ent1.jpg
Groggy from that overdose of showbiz news about a TV host shedding copious tears on national television after having been "dumped" by her married boyfriend and a rebellious actress turning her back on her poor, tear-drenched mother and younger sister in favor of living-in with a widower politician twice her age?
Here’s refreshingly good news:
Kristine Alzar, officially the 2002 Bb. Pilipinas-International, bested more than two dozen other contestants to win the Miss Tourism International crown last June 28 in Ukraine, with Miss Russia finishing first runner-up and Miss Ukraine-East as second runner-up.
In that contest, dubbed as "Miss Tourism International Ukraine Black Sea Beauty Pageant 2002," the Philippines seems to be a suki, having won the title thrice since 1997 when it was first held in Macau where our very own Joanne Quintas emerged the winner, followed last year by Michelle Reyes, who won it in Turkey.
The pageant, staged at the beautiful Odessa Sea Trade Port, aims "to foster and strengthen friendly and cultural relations among nations," and is organized by the Ministry of Tourism of Ukraine in cooperation with the Miss Ukraine South National Committee.
The activities included an international press conference, a city tour of Odessa, state reception with the Odessa mayor, a charity auction for children and a cultural program with visits to the different historical places of Ukraine. The candidates were billeted at the super-modern five-star Chabanka resort which features a spectacular aqua park.
Kristine Alzar, who hails from Lipa City (a La Salle Lipa graduate), trained in Colombia with Bb. Pilipinas-Universe Karen Loren Agustin who competed in the Miss U Pageant last month in Puerto Rico (the title went to Miss Russia) and Bb. Pilipinas-World Katherine Manalo, both of whom watched the Miss U Pageant as part of their "orientation."
According to Stella Marquez-Araneta, head of the Bb. Pilipinas Charities, Inc., Kristine’s win as Miss Tourism International doesn’t disqualify her from competing in the Miss International contest to be held on Oct. 4 in Hawaii.

Ang dami pala sumali sa Miss Universe 1999! 84 delegates! We're proud dahil nakapasok sa finalist ang ating delegate na si Miriam Quiambao despite her fall during the dress competition. Too bad because hindi tayo nanalo.
Actually, Miriam is my bet during the Miss Universe 1999 competition to win the crown.
May Miss Russia na palang sumali noong 1991. Kailan sumali ang Russia sa Miss Universe? Ang alam ko kasi hindi Russia pa ang pangalan ng bansa nila. It is Union Soviet of Socialist Republics or U.S.S.R.
Russia is the former communist country. Pag may sumali pala sa mga international contests under sila ng name na U.S.S.R.
Baka may sumali pang Miss U.S.S.R. sa Miss Universe before maging Russia ang kanilang bansa.

Regarding your query, I think pareho lang yan.
Slovakia was part of our favorite-to-be-spelled- country CZECHOSLOVAKIA.
When they split up, they became Czech republic and Slovakia. Maybe Slovakia also used the same style as Czech republic kaya naging SLOVAK republic.

For cybermix,
So you could understand more about the Slovak Republic:
Slovakia
Slovakia, the former Czechoslovakia's less glamourous partner, emerged dishevelled and sleepy after the 'Velvet Revolution' of 1989. Although it's now holding its own in a rebuilding Eastern bloc, there's a refreshing absence of Prague-style glitz and clamour. The capital, Bratislava, is small and cheerful with a surprisingly accomplished cultural life; the High Tatras are as rugged a range as any in Eastern Europe and the peasant traditions of rural Slovakia are still evident in the villages. You'll find the Slovaks to be extremely warm, friendly people prepared to go out of their way to help you enjoy their country.
Full country name: Slovak Republic
Area: 49,036 sq km (19,124 sq mi)
Population: 5.4 million
Capital city: Bratislava (pop 452,000)
People: Slovak (85.6%), Hungarian (10.7%), Romany (1.5%), Czech (1%)
Language: Slovak, Czech & Hungarian, German
Religion: 60% Roman Catholic, 10% Protestant, 4% Orthodox
Government: parliamentary democracy
Executive: President: Rudolf Schuster (SOP)
Prime Minister: Mikulás Dzurinda
note: so mas formal ang Slovak Republic, Miss World lang naman ang maarte at nilalagay ang "Slovakia" sa sash eh. Sa Miss Universe mas formal.

Lara if you know your geography and politics, the official name even in the United Nations and the Olympic Games is SLOVAKIA and not Slovak Republic. Its only in Miss Universe and Miss International and some other pageants were Slovak Rep. is the name that they are using and according to one of my Almanac, the 2002 TIME Almanac the listed name is SLOVAKIA and the official name is Republic of Slovakia so what Miss World is doing is not kaartehan

Well thanks for the correction. But I've read in other atlasses and websites like in www.lonelyplanet.com it's official name is "Slovak Republic." So either way will do. "Slovak Republic" just sounds a little bit formal. Geesh... it's just a name relax... taray.... it's like also debating is the Netherlands called Holland or the Netherlands?

Si Puerto Rico...baka naoperahan ng appendicitis :teehee:
United Kingdom is composed of The Kingdom of Northern Ireland and Great Britain. Meanwhile, Great Britain is composed of England, Scotland, Wales and the Isle of Man and I don't know kung meron pa.
So you can have a pageant where England, Scotland, and Wales are there but if you have United Kingdom, that's it. sakop na niya ang lahat. So technically, pwede rin mangyari kung Great Britain at Northern Ireland ay sumali sa isang pageant.

Musique Thanks for that :D May follow up question ako dyan eh...pag sinabi mong British Army are you referring to Great Britain? So that means, si Prince Charles, prince ng hmm...Great Britain? Tapos Hong Kong is occupied by....hala...by whom?!?!? England or Great Britain?!? :confusing:

If my memory serves me right, Hong Kong being a British colony before so sakop siya dati ng Great Britain/England/UK, you name it. That still confuses me pa rin eh. Well let's wait for power(bubbles) nalang hehehe, may alam yun malamang. hehehe Baka mali nanaman hirit ko eh hehehe
But regarding Prince Charles, his title is Prince of Wales - though he is the next heir to the throne of all the UK including the British territories. So that makes him Prince of all England and all the British territories.

Musique >> Ang alam ko Hong Kong is a former British colony. It used to be directly ruled over by a Governor General, who in turn reports to and is governed directly by Queen Elizabeth II. Hong Kong reverted back to China on June 30, 1997 (if my memory serves me right)...
cathybee >> Holland is used to correctly refer to a part of the Netherlands. The Netherlands is the country itself... In 1990, the Miss Universe Organization changed the "Holland" delegate sash to "Netherlands"... They are one and the same...

The last time Trinidad & Tobago made it in Miss World was way back in 1995, when Michelle Khan won 2nd runner-up to Venezuela's Jacqueline Maria Aguilera Marcano in Sun City, South Africa.
The 1st and last time Trinidad & Tobago won Miss World was way back in 1986, when Giselle Laronde captured the coveted crown.

Meet KATERINA... :)
Katerina Prusova won the coveted Miss Cesky Republicky 2002 crown last March. She will represent the Czech Republic in Miss World 2002 set for November in Abuja, Nigeria.

The very last time the Czech Republic made it in Miss World was in 1998, when Alena Seredova made it to the Top 10 in Mahe, Seychelles.

But regarding Prince Charles, his title is Prince of Wales - though he is the next heir to the throne of all the UK including the British territories. So that makes him Prince of all England and all the British territories.
[/QUOTE] Actually the title Prince of Wales is bestowed only to heir to the throne of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and the Commonwealth of Nations. Also the British monarch is also the head of state of several nations in the Commonwealth namely Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Antigua and Barbuda, etc. just to name a few and the Monrach is represented by a Governor-General.

Here is something about the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
Great Britain, officially United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, constitutional monarchy (1996 est. pop. 57,412,000), 94,226 sq mi (244,044 sq km), on the British Isles, off W Europe. The country is often referred to simply as Britain. Technically, Great Britain comprises England (1991 pop. 46,382,050), 50,334 sq mi (130,365 sq km); Wales (1991 pop. 2,798,200), 8,016 sq mi (20,761 sq km); and Scotland (1991 pop. 4,957,000), 30,414 sq mi (78,772 sq km) on the island of Great Britain, while the United Kingdom includes Great Britain as well as Northern Ireland (1991 pop. 1,577,836), 5,462 sq mi (14,146 sq km) on the island of Ireland. The Isle of Man (1991 pop. 69,788), 227 sq mi (588 sq km), in the Irish Sea and the Channel Islands (1991 pop. 145,821), 75 sq mi (195 sq km), in the English Channel, are dependencies of the crown, with their own systems of government. For physical geography and local administrative divisions, see England, Wales, Scotland, and Ireland, Northern. The capital of Great Britain and its largest city is London. Hong Kong until the 1997 handover to the People's Republic of China was part of the Commonwealth of Nations under Queen Elizabeth II. The Queen was last represented in Hong Kong by Governor Chris Patten who is now with the European Union.

Once you say British Army its the Army of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Prince Charles on the hand is the Prince of United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Therefore Hong Kong was the colony of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and not by England since England is one of the political divisions of Britain

Astrid Eyleen Carati Nogal is indeed competing for the title of Miss Republica Dominicana 2002. If she wins, she will represent the Dominican Republic in Miss Universe 2003 set for May next year in Panama City, Panama.
Astrid represented the State of Cojedes during the Miss Venezuela 2000 pageant. She was Eva Ekvall and Natascha Borger's batchmate. :)
GOOD LUCK! :)
Thanks to Julio R. for the info!
I wish Astrid Carati wins. Jensie favor can you pls post Zonia El-Hawi's Official Miss Venezuela photo here. I really love that lady. I'm thinking if Astrid Carati wins Miss RD 2003 her chances of landing the 10 is even bigger than Natascha Borger. Listen to this, Astrid was a semifinalist at Miss Venezuela and Natascha was a non-finalist at the said pageant. So in short even if a non-finalist in Miss Venezuela managed to crack the 10, what about a semifinalist at MV cracking the 10 at Miss Universe as well. Don't you think? Just an observation. Also Astrid was one of my contenders for the Miss Venezuela crown that year together with Zonia El-Hawi and Eva Ekvall. One of my contenders failed to make the cut and she is Isis Duran

Jensie here are the list of of winners and semi-finalist at Miss Venezuela courtesy of Jimmy's Pageant page:
Venezuela is most certainly known for its glamorous and stunning women, and this pageant is where it all happens. The winner goes to the Miss Universe Pageant, second place to Miss World, and third place to Miss International. In 1990, third place went to Miss Flower Queen, an international pageant which is supposed to be held every 50 years, which was run by the Miss Universe Pageant; fourth place in 1990 was Miss Venezuela International. From the late-1980s to early-1990s, fifth place was designated as Miss Wonderland Venezuela, while between 1994 and 1997, either the first runner-up or Miss Venezuela International went to Nuestra Belleza Internacional.

NOTE: In 1991, Jackeline Rodríguez of Miranda was hand-chosen by Miss Venezuela president Osmel Sousa to represent Venezuela in Miss Universe 1991. The pageant date was pushed back from March to September, necessitating a delegate for Miss Universe 1991. Starting with the 1991 pageant, winners went to Miss Universe in the following year, while Miss World Venezuela continued to go the same year.
NOTE: Miss Venezuela International competed in the following year's Miss International Pageant from 1994 (when Ana María Amorer Guerrero went to Miss International 1995) until 1998 (when Bárbara Pérez Rangel declined to chance to participate, and it was given to the 1999 pageant's second runner-up, Andreína González).
Compiled by Ed Domínguez and Celía García. Thanks to José Medel Bello, Julio Rodríguez and Daniel González Villamediana. With files from Jimmy's Pageant Page.

*-Surrendered the Miss Venezuela title. Remaining finalists moved up one position in the final rankings as a result of the first runner-up becoming Miss Venezuela.
(I wrote this part)
Note: In 2000 Claudia Moreno represented Venezuela after winning the Miss Republica Bolivariana Venezuela pageant. It was due to the fact that Martina Thorogood, Miss Venezuela 1999 was not allowed to compete by MUO at the Miss Universe pageant in Nicosia, Cyprus after the latters second place finish at Miss World 1999 in London
Miss Republica Bolivariana de Venezuela 2000
1. Claudia Cristina Moreno-Gonzales
2. Maria Laura Lugo-Soto
3. Karelys Margarita Ollarves-Villarreal
It is also noted that after 1999 the Miss World Venezuela pageant was established to conduct the search for the Venezuelan representative to Miss World. And teh winners are as follows:
2000 - Vanessa Cardena-Bravo
2001 - Andreina Prieto-Rincon

Another picture of Miss Nueva Esparta 2000. Usually when you hear about Latin America, one of the first things that comes to your mind is it's predominantly Catholic. It's kinda a weird site to see a Muslim joining Miss Venezuela. Parang sobrang contrast eh... she should try vying for Miss Lebanon hehehe.

Miss Venezuela 2000 was also the year with the most number of stunning gowns. I was expecting Natasha Borger to wear similar to the gowns back in 2000, she would have placed higher.

UNCONFIRMED
Rumor has it that Sabrina Daneri might compete in the Miss Argentina Universo 2003 pageant in March next year.
Sabrina represented the State of Portuguesa during the Miss Venezuela 2000 pageant. She was born of an Argentine father and a Venezuelan mother.
She was 21 years old when she competed that year. She stands 5 feet 10 inches...
http://www.uol.com.ve/especiales/missvenezuela/images/portuguesa.jpg
If Astrid wins Miss Republica Dominica 2003 and Sabrina wins Miss Argentina Universo 2003, there will be 3 Venezuelans in Panama during MU2003 come May.
Astrid and Sabrina were both Eva and Natascha's batchmates during MV2000.

Neha was sooo thin back then. Femina Miss India did prepare her spiritually and mentally alright, but they still need to focus also on the physical aspects. They forgot to watch her weight hehehe
Laki ng pinagbago niya hehehe

Miss Panama Lia Victoria Borrero is all smiles upon her return to Panama right after the Miss Universe 1997 pageant. Lia made it to the Top 6.
Lia eventually competed in Miss International 1998 and won for her country its 1st ever crown in that pageant.
:)
Lia is a very beautiful delegate! Did you notice that she wore 2 different gowns during the 1997 Miss U prelims and finals night? I feel that she would have scored better had she used her long sleeved gown for the finals.
Also, I love the way the 1997 host said her name everytime: "Lia...Victoria...Borrrrrerrrroooo!!!!!!!!!!
P.S. She also resembles G Toengi in a way...

Personally i like Lia especially when she pulled her hair back during the finals night. It brought out her true beauty. Also if i'm not mistaken didn't she received the highest ever score in the preliminary interview segement at 9.62 breaking that of Manpreet Brar. Pls. correct me if i'm wrong.

Natasha Borger, more Latina than European. I haven't seen a pic of her with the European girls.
