I think the reason why Cara S. wore her horrific gown was her white gown was stolen ata.

Question: Ano tingin mo dun sa sagot ni Charlene na "high tide or low tide?" In my opinion, she came off as rehearsed and oh well, corny! I wasn't impressed. period! :D

Yes, it was very, very plastic and rehearsed! Corny nga! =)

However sana nabunot na lang niya si Emilio Yap instead of Jonas McCord. I think it was the question that killed her during the Final 6 round. Actually, corny din ang sagot niya sa Final 6... that thing about Superwoman did not impress me much either.

Or if she wore the Muslim inspired green gown or the white gown that she wore during the "A whole new world" production. It resembles Ruffa Guttierez' black gown when she won 2nd princess at Miss World 1993. It's really a standout.

Another no-no was Cara Subijano's gown during Miss World 1994. It really sucks. Mas maganda pa yung white off-shoulder gown niya when she won Bp. Pilipinas - World.

Yes, you are very right! The black sleeveless gown that Ruffa wore in Miss World '93 was designed by Ben Farrales. That silver gown Charlene wore during the special production with Peabo Bryson was a Pitoy Moreno creation.

Cara only wore that hideous gown during the Miss World semi-finals because (just like what Lara_Ganda_Ko reveals above) it was reported that the original gown she was scheduled to wear was stolen, which is why she had to look for a last minute replacement. To make matters worse, Cara was called in 1st, which means she had not much time and therefore had to rush preparations before coming out into the stage...

TRIVIA lang. =) Source: various pageant web sites

Paging baby_boi, Lara_Ganda_Ko, Zack, Altwegg... kindly add more info if you have time. Thanks. =)

- When the top 10 was called in during MU90, the semi-finalists were wearing their national costumes. (minus the big headresses of course if ever they had)

- The song used during the MU97 swimsuit competition was originally used during the MU67 swimsuit competition. It was used to relive the memories of MU held also in Miami Beach 30 years back then. Miss Universe 1967 Silvia Hitchcock-Carson was present during the MU97 live telecast.

- 2001 is the best year for Korea in pageant fashion. It won Best National Costume in Miss Universe, Miss International, Miss Asia Pacific, and Miss Tourism World. It also won Best Dress in Miss World. (which is also equivalent to the National Costume Award in MU)

- Miss USA Kimberly Ann Pressler was only the 3rd woman in MU history not to make it in the final top 10 cut. It was reported that she received a super low, low score during the preliminary evening gown competition.

- Star Hellas Greece will beef up its campaign to select "the best Greek representative ever" in MU for the year 2004. As we all know, Athens will play host to the Olympics and it would definitely be a GREAT HONOR for Greece to win MU. If ever Miss Greece indeed wins MU2004, she will participate in the Olympics Opening Ceremonies, which will be beamed to an estimated 150 countries worldwide reaching a television audience of almost 3 billion people.

- Geraldine Edith "Pebbles" Asis' black Oriental-inspired evening gown was designed by Louie Mamengo. It was her "lucky gown" because she was wearing it when she won Bb. Pilipinas Universe. She wore the same gown again when she competed in MU87 in Singapore. It scored 8.914, which ranked 4th overall.

- Joanne Santos ranked 2nd overall in the MU95 Miss Congeniality voting. As we all know, it was Nigeria's Toyin Hajit Raji who won that award that year.

1981 was the year when the evening gown competition features the 12 semifinalists walking over a grand piano.

1985 was the year from the 1980's that the "Parade of Nations" introduced by the outgoing Miss Universe Ivone Ryding of Sweden - and not host Bob Barker.

MISS UNIVERSE 1971, LEBANON'S GEORGINA RIZK knew she would win - a fortuneteller told her so! Plus, during the final moments of the pageant, she peeked at Bob Barker's cue card and saw her name listed as the winner.

In 1979, PERTH, AUSTRALIA was the furtherest south that The Miss Universe Pageant has been held in many locations over its history.

MISS UNIVERSE 1966, MARGARETA ARVIDSSON; MISS UNIVERSE 1973, MARGARITA MORAN; AND MISS UNIVERSE 1977, JANELLE COMMISSIONG were the only three winners of the Miss Photogenic Award that went on to win the Miss Universe title.

MISS UNIVERSE 1988, PORNTIP NAKHIRUNKANOK; AND MISS UNIVERSE 1998, WENDY FITZWILLIAM were the only two winners of the Best National Costume Award that went on to win Miss Universe.

sorry wala akong macontribute dito..magcocomment na lang ako nang magcocomment para may free flow of discussion

ATROCIOUS *** hairdo ni Charlene indeed...eniwei, kumpara mo naman *** mukha nya then and now, kahit na chubby side *** genes nya, mas maganda talaga sya ngayon, as in feeling ko mas may dating, mas may x factor. Pero, agree ako, sana sumali din sya sa Mrs. World o kaya sa kung ano pang pang-mrs na pageant hehehe :D

Sabi nga di ba, a gown can make or break a person...for ex, si miriam q., kahit anong tingin ko talaga, di sya maganda, at tsaka ikumpara mo sya ngayon at nung time na nasa ms. u sya inside that heavenly gown, abay iba *** dating nya then and now. Ibang iba talaga...the gown has been able to mix with her being and that makes her beautiful even if she isnt the most beautiful gal in the stage. Nagmatch talaga sila ng damit na sinuot nya and that made her *okay* sayang lang nga, di sya nanalo, pero un lang talaga *** time na nabuhayan ako ng loob na sa wakas may pag-asa ang pinas to win heheheh....

regarding dun sa off topic na mmff----i am surprised sa comments nyo sa fashion sense ni alessandra...well, di ko kase napanuod so i will base it on your comments....kase, i feel that she has a better fashion sense than her sis kaya gulat ako na pumalpak sya last nyt! And..i think she deserves to win! I like her better than assunta eh! pero swerte nila ha, nanalo ang mag-sis!!! :D proud na proud siguro si piolo kay alex hehehe

Comment ko lang po regarding Joanne Quintas aka Joanne Santos. I dont see any beauty-queen material in her. I mean, *** sya nanalo? In the first place, hers is just an ordinary face. Tsaka, ano ba yung talent nya? Feel ko, yun ang worst set of winners because of her. And then years after her reign, she was involved in a mauling incident. Ano ba yun? Beauty queen nambubugbog? Sayang si Angel Aquino, pang-beauty queen material sya, kaso may edad na at 2 anak.

Jensie_G,
I was quite intruiged about Miss Greece for 2004. I think it's kinda cool. Where did you get the info? They still have at least 3 years to prepare for it, but that is a very big task to achieve- so much pressure.

Joanne Zapanta Santos was only 18 when she was crowned Bb. Pilipinas Universe on March 12, 1995. She was one of the tallest (5'10") during that year's batch. She was favored to win because of her height advantage and her being an actress. Showbiz Linggo interviewed the outoing Bb. Pilipinas '94 winners. Charlene, Cara, and Alma unanimously agreed that it's a tough fight between Reham Snow Tago (candidate #1) and Joanne Santos (candidate #30). They couldn't specifically predict who will go to Namibia.

During the BB95 Final 5 Q&A, an American judge asked her if she would pose naked for an artist doing a painting of her. She replied: "No, because I'm a Filipina and I'm very conservative." Although her answer was very plain and struggled to be politically correct like most pageant answers do, I think this is what catapulted her into the Magic 3.

But just the same, i dont think she deserved the title. Speaking of Reham Snow Tago, sya po yung nagpredict na mananalo sya sa Miss World right? Pero hinde, and she never even made it to the semis. *** siguro di na sya bumalik ng Pnas

Joanne Santos won Best in Swimsuit. You might not have noticed that there was a curse in Bb. Pilipinas in the 90's that whoever wins the "Best In Swimsuit: award will go to Miss Universe. Gem, Alu, Liza, Dindi, Charlene, Joanne, Aileen, Abbygale all won this award. The "curse" was only broken in 1998 when Collette Centeno won. Unfortunately for her, she was sent to Japan for MI.

HEY PEOPLE GUESS WHAT I STUMBLED UPON THIS POST IN THE GB MESSAGE BOARD!!!!!!!!!!! WHAT DO YOU THINK???

Osmel to step down

According to the Venezuelan newspaper "El Nacional", Osmel Sousa will be leaving his post as head of the Miss Venezuela organization next year. The day before Sousa announced his resignation, Venezuelan president Hugo Chávez expressed discontent at the number of surgeries virtually all of the country's pageant winners have had.

And an additional treat for pageant fans: Miss Universe 1986, Bárbara Palacios Teyde, will take over the post from Osmel.

----------------

Well, matataranta na I guess si Madame Stella, wala na ang mag trtrain sa mga Bb. natin. hehehe

Well, matataranta na I guess si Madame Stella, wala na ang mag trtrain sa mga Bb. natin. hehehe

Too bad for Osmel...

Anyway, I believe this transition will NOT IN ANY WAY affect Venezuela's status in beauty pageants. They will still be sending top caliber representatives for all pageants.

And I guess you're right... with this turn of events, we can't be sure if Madame Stella Araneta will still send our representatives to La Quinta to train. Kay Osmel close si Madame and not to anyone else... We are now on our own.

I believe the Venezuelan women will benefit from this move. Since MOST contestants/winners of the Miss Venezuela Pageant undergo surgery. Unfortunately, their success come with a high price. I believe that Miss Venezuelas' image will change for the better. I just hope everything will turn out right upon transferring of power (Osmel to Barbara). Good Luck na lang Barbara and the new Miss Venezuela Organization. :D

I really hope you guys could get a copy of Details Magazine (December 2000 issue). Everything you need to know about Osmel Souza and the Miss Venezuela Organization can be found here.

Sean Penn is on the cover. Also on the cover, you will read
INSIDE VENEZUELA'S KILL-OR-BE KILLED PAGEANT BUSINESS. The title of the article is "The War of the Poses".

I think the magazine is still available (at a cheaper price already of course) either at Bufini or at the many magazine stands scattered around popular malls like Glorietta and Power Plant.

- 2001 is the best year for Korea in pageant fashion. It won Best National Costume in Miss Universe, Miss International, Miss Asia Pacific, and Miss Tourism World. It also won Best Dress in Miss World. (which is also equivalent to the National Costume Award in MU)

While it's true that Korea's very successful this year. I'd have to correct your info regarding Korea winning Best in National Costume in the recently concluded Miss Asia-Pacific. Miss Korea didn't win the Best in National Costume Award. It was Mexico's Lisette Villanueva who won that award with a butterfly creation. I'd prefer Miss Korea's costume over Miss Mexico's due to the fact that the latter's was not really a national costume of Mexico. Miss Korea's costume was the best that night. She carried it well enough... I bet she placed in the top three of the Best in National Costume competition. :D

Yes, I'm very sure the magazine is still available...

By the way, I got the info regarding Miss Greece at a message board (Voy.com). I forgot the exact name of the board though. It was sort of a press realease from a representative of Star Hellas Greece. I will inform you of the exact url when I get the chance to find it again because it slipped out of my mind.

And by the way, what happened to the Mabuhay Pageants Messageboard? Why can't we access it anymore?

We rightfully respect your opinions and concerns regarding the quality of women who join Bb. Pilipinas nowadays. There's nothing wrong with that, per se.

However, you have no right to GENERALIZE your claim na "pabobo nang pabobo ang mga sumasali..."

hello people, I just want to share, kaninang very early morning, mga 2:45 am I was just channel surfing and I landed on the French channel. So may silbi pala yun channel na yun satin at times kasi I saw Miss France 2002 being interviewed. Of course naman I have no idea what the heck they were talking about, but she seems so elegant naman, but kinda short compared to Elodie. But for me she ain't no favorite for the crown. She was interviewd along with the owners of Miss France sa isang rooftop over looking the Eifel Tower. I think pinakita dun sa French channel yung Miss France 2002 but of course we did not know kung what time pinakita. So may sibli pala yung mga foreign channels na yun at times. Teh French are so elegant it seems.

baby_boi,
I told you some of the God forsaken channels on cable can be handy at times. It's 1:30 am in the morning and I'm watching Miss Europe 2001 sa Frecn channel. And it's so FREAKIN boring!!!! Pero ok lang, pang paubos oras. MIss Europe 2001 is Miss France Universe 2001 Elodie, she has indeed changed a lot after Puerto Rico. Her shoulder isn't deformed anymore and kung ano ang ikinapanget ng gown niya sa Miss U, napaka elegant ng gown niya sa Miss Europe. And another note, Russia is represented by Miss Russia Universe 2001 and again is among the 15 semi finalist- she's wearing a gold gown. One of the host for Miss Europe is Miss World 1997 Diana Hayden.

And quite a number of the judges are thh national directors for France, Belgium, Greece, Ukraine and Russia who are also responsible in sending their reps in Miss U.

And regarding sa video watching... hmmm... I'll see pa...

Yes! I was watching the same program early this morning at TV5 (The French Channel in Destiny Cable). Actually, I swithced channels at around 12:45 AM and I finally landed at the Television Española (TVE) channel, which is a couple of channels away from TV5. I was then shocked to see and realize (after a few seconds more) that the girl I was watching in this soap opera was none other than Lorena Bernal Pascual! She already has her own soap opera and is a great actress indeed! She still looks stunning after 2 years.

My suggestion is that you also check TVE from time to time because I think it is the official channel of the Miss España pageant. I was able to watch Lorena's first ever exclusive interview after being crowned Miss Spain 1999 in March of that year.

Another channel na may silbi is the RAI International channel. (The Italian Channel of Destiny Cable) It broadcasted live in September 2001 the Miss Italy in the World pageant, wherein Miss United States Valentina Patruto won. RAI also broadcasts the Miss Italia pageant, which used to own the franchise that sends Italian delegates to MU.

Going back again to Miss Europe 2001, all I can say is that it is a very, very elegant and classy pageant... It's at par with the Miss World pageant... breath-taking stage... classical mussic for the background... boring presentation... but very beautiful candidates... I was so shocked because it was the very first time I was stunned by candidates from Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria... and even Turkey and Moldova did not fail to impress me. Elodie deserves her victory indeed. Mas pumayat siya now compared to when she competed in MU. Poland, Croatia, Turkey, and Spain MUST compete in MU someday.

Actually natulala ako when they also showed the delegates from Finland, Cyprus, Ukraine and Armenia. Actually almost lahat sa kanila maganda walang may hang ups. I fell in love with Miss Poland actually, yeah she should join Miss U someday. Sila Miss Turkey maganda and si Miss Russia won miss photogenic ah. She's well... masmaganda compared nung nasa Miss U. I was wondering if what would happen to Miss France if she competed in Miss U with that gown and with that straight soldier? I think Miss Spain can't join Miss U kasi she already competed sa Miss España 2001, I think she's one of the runners up eh. Di ako nagandahan sa kanya because there were a lot of Miss Spains more beautiful than her like Eva and Macarena. And I'm really looking forward to the real Miss Spain 2001 si van Hoorde sa Miss U. Sana may replay yung Miss Europe.

Isa pang channel na may kwenta sometimes pero tinanggal na ng both Destiny and Sky-Sony Entertainment Television. I think before they used to get that channel for free eh ngayon ata they have to pay for it. haaay.... baka sa probinsya nakakalusot. hehehe

Oxana was still chubby as she was in MU last May. However, mas gumanda siya. I think Elodie would have scored higher in the MU evening gown competition had she worn that black gown instead.

Actually what has been shown kanina was already a replay na. According to misseurope.org, the live telecast was at 11:15 PM Saturday night. (Paris local time)

Yes! SET is responsible for the live broadcast of the Femina Miss India pageant. ZEE TV naman was responsible for the live telecast and replay of the Grasim Mr. International 2001, where our very own Alex Aquino won the title. I think Sky Cable has ZEE TV in its channel listings... I'm not so sure though...

Does Destiny Cable have a Thai channel? If ever it has, and if ever that channel is Channel 7 Thai TV, then we are again fortunate because it broadcasts the Miss Thailand Universe pageant and the Miss Universe pageant itself... live talaga... with few commercial breaks... unlike the incompetence RPN 9 exhibits to local viewers.

Bummer Destiny has no Thai channel, even sa Sky Cable here sa area namin wala na but before they have the Thai channel 7. I don't know ngayon if binalik ng SKy cable dito sa area ang Thai channel. But i think sa may Pasig, QC Area meron dun, sa south wala. where you able to watch the Miss U Pageant sa Thai channel? Eto pa pala isa, the walang katapusan na Chinese channels, isa dun may silbi, the Star Phoenix (yung logo nila eh yung parang fire something sa upper left- it's base is in Hong Kong) mga delayed broadcast pero ok naman. They broadcast Miss Universe (August) and Miss World (December). I wasn't able to watch Miss UIniverse nung May but I was able to watch it sa Star Phoenix, ang ganda ng reception, sounds, etc, and only has one or two commercial breaks!!!! So i was able to record it. hehehe

I'm still looking kung anong cable ang may SET pa eh. Ano pa ba mga cables companies aside from Destiny and Sky?

Nope, I wasn't able to watch the MU pageant in that Thai channel. However, my friend did.

Yes, I know the Star Phoenix channel. What I didn't know was that it broadcasts MU and MW pala! Thanks for this information! :)

The other cable companies I know of are ZPD and Home Cable... Home Cable is owned by Sky Cable, right? Does ZPD still exist? And what happened to Sun Cable? It used to be owned by Sky Cable, right? Does it still exist too?

Thanks Jensie_G for the info. I think di na ko aasa sa Sky cable kasi well you know why. I'm quite content with Destiny. REgarding sa Star Phoenix by August time they show Miss UNiverse tapos they have 2 reruns of it. Tapos after a few weeks ipapakita uli.

Have you seen na ba ang Miss Cayman Island for Miss Universe? Kung ano ang ikinapanget nung 1994, this year they have send the best so far from that island. I also fell in love with Miss Cyprus in Miss Europe.

Happy New Year to Everyone, I also saw this pero I saw it mga 12am, it was actually Miss Europe 2002 ata, and the host was a french guy, and Diana Hayden, Ms World 97, The winner was Miss France, Elodie (i dunno her surname), I saw her on the newspaper, its Phil Star, yesterday ko yata nakita o nung 31st. I remember na sya yung rumored transvestite during this years Miss U, diba?

Yes I agree! Shannon McLean caught my attention when she competed earlier in MW2001. There's just something in her that somewhat separates her from the rest of the black candidates. I just hope she gets noticed in MU2002 and put on a good show.

No Miss Cayman Island ever made it into the semifinals (or even at least into the top 25 at least during the entire 90's)... The best this Caribbean island-nation ever did was win Miss Amity in 1980 and 1982.

By May, we'll see if Shannon will break the dry spell by being the first ever from her country to make it into the top 10 cut...

Anyway, it is very interesting to note that Cook Islands took their failure in 1994 very seriously... the next year, Miss Cook Islands Tarita Brown made history when she became the 1st ever from her country to make it into the top 25. She ranked 15th overall, even beating our very own Joanne Santos by a hundredth of a point!

I couldn't figure how Miss Switzerland Patricia Fassler made it past the top ten when in fact she wasn't even in the top ten preliminaries of evening gown, swimwear, and interview competitions. Michelle Van Eimeren should have taken her place and gave a really good fight. I'm quite surprised Miss Venezuela placed so low in the top ten of Interview and Swimwear Competitions. As we all know, she's a Miss Venezuela. And they compete fiercely! Oh well... ü

There's nothing to correct. You are right! :)

Miss Australia did not make it because of her poor swimsuit score: 8.32

Miss Russia, on the other hand, failed to make the cut because naman of her poor evening gown score: 8.54

SOME NOTES:
- Michelle McLean is the TALLEST Miss Universe in it's entire history. She stands 6'0" flat.
- Michelle McLean competed in Miss World 1991 but settled for the Top 5 only.
- Carolina Izsak was favored to win MU92, however she choked during the Final 6 Q&A. She scored 9.43, which ranked 4th.
- Shannon Marketic ranked 12th overall during the Miss USA '92 prelims. Fortunately for her, Miss USA was selecting the top 12 to compete during the live telecast at that time. Luckily again for this Californian, she won the Miss USA '92 crown after the two-hour live telecast in Wichita, Kansas.
- Madhu Sapre only joined her national pageant "just for the fun of it." Her performance was superb throughout the MU92 live telecast in Bangkok. However, she failed to impress the judges during the top 3 and therefore settled for 3rd place.
- Lisa de Montalk made it into the top 10 of Miss World 1991.

This is a comment done by Joseph Vitug about Miss Cayman Island 2002. There is really something in her:

CAYMAN ISLANDS – Shannon McLean. I was delightfully surprised when I saw her on the Miss World telecasts (both the You Decide show and coronation night). She’s gorgeous and extremely pretty, with a great personality and strong stage projection skills to boot (plus a nice graduated-tone sequined gown at the Miss World finals). I can even argue that she’s the best delegate ever from this country – too bad photos don’t seem to do her justice. My advice: minimize the black eyeliner, and pray that the photographers in San Juan have better skills in showcasing the delegates at their best (chances are, they have it – notice the really superb official photos taken of the delegates in the past four years). If you think she’s already really good in Miss World, she can only get better in Miss Universe, judging from the improvements her predecessor, Jacqueline Bush, made when she’s in Bayamon. Can she make a big splash and create history for her country by being the Cayman’s first semifinalist in a major international pageant? She’s got what it takes, I think.

Trivia lang ulit. . . .

In 1979, the Philippines became the first Asian country to win five major international beauty pageant crowns - 2 Miss Universe (1969 and 1973) and 3 Miss International (1965, 1970 and 1979).

In 1999, India became the second Asian country to reach that mark - 1 Miss Universe (1994) and 4 Miss World (1966, 1994, 1997,1999).

Thanks for the info! :)

Technically speaking, the Philippines is the first ever Asian country to win both MU and MW crowns in the same year. The year was 1973. Evangeline "technically" won the MW crown when Marjorie Wallace was stripped off her title. As we all know, she was 1st RU. However, Vangie refused to take over.

A lot of reasons for this have been reported throughout the years. Here are some of them:
1. Marjorie was already half-way through her term as MW when she was dethroned. Vangie was already hesitant to take over.
2. Vangie wanted to be crowned MW73 in front of a worldwide audience... something Eric Morley just would not permit...
3. Vangie devoted more time to her acting career and hence, ignoring the MW crown in the process.

India was the second Asian country to win both MU and MW crowns. This was in 1994 was we all know. It again achieved the same feat in 2000.

And by the way, as we all know...
the PHILIPPINES takes pride of being THE ONLY ASIAN COUNTRY to have won in MISS INTERNATIONAL in its entire 41-year history.

Another thing to be proud of is that our country is one of the few with the MOST NUMBER of WINNERS in that said pageant. The others are Poland, Venezuela, England, Australia and the USA= all with 3 winners each just like RP.

MELANIE MARQUEZ has been selected as the MOST BEAUTIFUL MISS INTERNATIONAL ever by Global Beauties beating 40 others...

With all these achievements tucked under our belt, I don't see why we have to be intimidated at all over our failure to make it into the Top 15 for the past 3 years... may panahon uli tayo sa MI. :)

The tallest Miss Venezuela naman ever (according to the Miss Venezuela Messageboard) is Minorka Mercado, who stands 6'2".
The other three are Denyse Floreaño (MV95), Lisa Ljung (MV89), and Carolina Izsak (MV92)-- all of them standing 6'1".

OF PAGEANT ACCESSORIES... :)

Let's discuss about SASHES first...

My nominees for the BEST SASHES (INTERNATIONAL PAGEANT category):

1. Miss Universe- it's new silver-ish color is very, very classy
2. Miss World- it's color is very cool to the eye
3. Miss Europe- very, very classy... it gives us an air of European royalty and craftsmanship

My nominees for the BEST SASHES (NATIONAL PAGEANT category):

1. Miss USA- an exact clone of the MU sash
2. Miss Canadian Universe- resembles the Miss Europe sash
3. Miss Venezuela- the bearer gives us an intimidating "don't-mess-with-me-coz-I'm-MissVenezuela" feeling
4. Miss Brasil- very colorful, patterened after the Brazilian flag
5. Fa Femina Miss India- very Asian indeed...very bright
6. Binibining Pilipinas- obviously patterned after the MU sash because of the blue outline, lettering and accessories. The new sashes have greatly improved... We've seen worse in the eighties and early nineties.
7. Miss España- eye-catching because of the large letterings
8. Miss France- the BEST European national pageant sash for me... it proudly carries the colors of the French flag
9. Miss Germany Universe- just like the Miss Brazil and Miss France sashes, it is very nationalistic
10. Star Hellas Greece- goes along with the classy crown
11. Miss South Africa- very bright just like the Femina sash
12. The Most Beautiful Girl In Nigeria- worn by the Nigerian representative to Miss Universe and Miss World. It is the most "expressive" sash I'ver seen.
13. Señorita Bolivia- very colorful too, just like the Miss Brasil sash
14. Miss Universe Puerto Rico- just like the Bb. Pilipinas sash, it was patterned after the MU sash.

WORST SASHES (INTERNATIONAL PAGEANT category):

1. Miss Earth- lousy font used and lousy color indeed
2. Miss Asia Pacific- too exaggerated indeed
3. Reinado del Cafe Internacional- very complicated and exaggerated
4. Miss International- very complicated. The only consolation is that it matches perfectly w/ the MI crown
5. Reina Sudamerica- very plain, to think South America is culturally wealthy

WORST SASHES (NATIONAL PAGEANT category):

1. Miss Thailand- no symmetry at all
2. Miss Northern Marianas- boring colors
3. Nuestra Belleza Mexico- very plain
4. Miss Schweiz- worn by the Swiss representative to MU. Very dull too.

CROWNS:

BEST CROWNS:
For me, the best crown ever is the Miss World crown... yan ang talagang "crown", per se. It slides perfectly into the bearer's head without worrying whether it may fall or slide. It also has intricate and exquisite jewelry. I think this is the main reason why winners pass them on after their reign and not keep it unlike the MU crown.

Runners-up for Best Crown:

1. Miss USA- very elegant and classy
2. Miss Universe- very stylish but too exaggerated

WORST CROWNS:
For me, the worst crown is the Miss Earth crown... if not tinipid... talagang hindi nilagyan ng budget man lang. I think you can easily get an exact copy of that crown at any Shoemart outlet... it's very frustrating that Catharine Svensson has to suffer the humiliation of bringing it home to Denmark. It doesn't even go along with the sash (which happens to be also lousy)... to make matters worse, parang pang-Santacruzan siya.

Runners-up for Worst Crown:

1. Miss International- very exaggerated and irritating to the eye
2. Miss Asia Pacific- just like the Miss Earth crown... poorly designed
3. Miss Venezuela- even if it's loaded with precious jewels, I think it's too "over" na...
4. Binibining Pilipinas crowns- do you know that the Bb. Pil Universe crown is the exact crown worn by the Miss Dominican Republic winner? I've also seen the Bb. Pil World and Bb. Pil Int'l crowns being worn by other Latin American national pageant winners. Weird, huh?
5. Fa Femina Miss India- too plain, lacks craftsmanship
6. Mutya Ng Pilipinas- no comment...
7. Señorita Colombia- weird shape... it resembles a Chinese or Tibetan gong. The only consolation is the beautiful winner wearing it. :)

Please post you comments, ideas and additional information... :) Thanks!

MY favorite batch is the 1999 batch... not only because Miriam was from that batch... not also because it's the biggest batch ever with 84 candidates... there's just something with this group that I can't explain. Maganda sila talaga lahat!

MY favorite Top 10 combination naman is the Top 10 of MU95...

It's comprised of:
1 Asian- India
1 African- South Africa
3 Caribbeans- Puerto Rico, Trinidad & Tobago, Dominican Republic
1 Latin American- El Salvador
2 North Americans- USA and Canada
2 South Americans- Venezuela and Colombia

No they don't show it live sa Star Phoenix, ang Miss Universe is bandang August. I was just switching channels one time and nakita ko si Eva Ekvall sa evening gown competition, medyo nagulat ako at na excite kasi I wasn't able to watch the pageant live because I was out of the country. Kaya yun, I went to the website and the next replay was 5 am, hehehe I woke up at 4:30 and I fixed my VHS tapos nirecord ko na. MAganda sa Star Phoenix kasi walang commercial breaks (kung meron mga 1 or 2 commercials) at maganda ang picture and sound quality. May kasama nga lang Chinese characters sa ibaba pero di siya dubbed.

Zee TV is back in Sky Cable. I know may panibagong cable company na lumabas eh, nakikita ko sa E Television yung commercial. I think satellite dish yun...

For me naman when it comes to pageant accesories, I have no intererst in looking at the crowns and sashes of the local winners but this are my nominations:
Best Crown- Miss Universe ( i dunno ang ganda talaga eh, bagay sa pa sa girls)
Best Sash- Miss Universe (though I miss the old blue one)
Best Sash for delegates- Miss Universe pa rin- may uniformity and consistent siya. That silvery white sash has been the trademark sash of Miss U since I can remember.

Pinaka jologs na crown- Miss Earth (di niyo ba nahalata parang corona ng Sto. Niño? Pang poon yun eh di pang tao hehehe)

runners up: Bb. Pilipinas- can't they think of anything more attractive?
Miss Colombia- it looks like it's made up of tin can.

Oh yes, of course of course...:) I agree.

I forgot to mention it too... for me, the BEST DELEGATE SASHES are those used by Miss Universe. It's very classic. I think they've used that style ever since the 50's.

However, there was one year though when the MU delegate sashes were different-- 1987. Look at the pictures of the girls competing during the semi-finals. They wore different sashes compared to what the semi-finalists wore in 1988 or any year else.

The WORST DELEGATE SASHES are those used by Miss Earth... No comment na lang...

Anyway, going back to the 1987 delegate sashes... I really can't explain why they're different compared to sashes from all other years... I've been doing some research on this for quite some time and I haven't found any answers yet.

I have this strong feeling that any of the following girls will go to Miss Universe:

Neha Dhupia, 21, 5'6"

Tina Chaudhary, 23, 5'7.5"

Ankita Gupta, 20, 5'6"

and

Sonal (I can't find her surname)

Hey Lara,

why not? If Neha and the other 5'6 girls deserve to go to Miss Universe, then why not? The height's not really the prob... It's the package that counts and gets them far! Pero same tayo, kay Zainab din ako... How tall is Zainab anyway? Gawd!! Ang ganda ni Zainab... Gawa ako alternick... Zainab_Ganda_ko! hehehe... joke!

Kung sabagay... Advatageous talaga ang matangkad... Nung 2001 Top Five diba si Celina lang ang punggok? Ang ganda nga tingnan nung apat eh... Parang World Trade Centers... LoL!

Hey, question: Why did they decide not to cut down the Top five to Final 3? Uhhmm... Ano sa tingin nyo?

Ang Diyosa ng Kagandahan.

Anyway, the Evening gown of Charlene was design by Jose "Pitoy" Moreno. Miriam's was a Halston Original while Nina's and Zora's was designed by Colombian couturier Alfredo Barraza, who also designs Miss Colombia's outfits.

That's the reason why we lost nung 2000 ang panget ng gown ni Nina. Even Nina didn't like the gown that much. Well that's what you get if some Colombina dresses up our girls. Our designers can do better.

Winner talaga si nina sa swimsuit!!!!! sayang siya, grabe!!!!

i really hope this year's bb. pilipinas batch will be a strong one....kinabahan nako sa femina delegates.....looks like they wanna bounce back from their not-so-good performance last year.

feeling ko rin di nila papanalunin ang 5'6" kasi baka masyadong pungok....papanalunin nila yan sa miss asia pacific....just like what they did to diya mirza, sobrang ganda kaya lang maliit, so, sure win pagdating sa miss asia-pacific!

shall visit the femina site......be back.......

p.s. belated happy birthday (at happy new year na rin) to altwegg....

p.p.s. at sino ka, guissepe? ikaw ba ay isang alternick or isa sa mga pageant junkies? hmm......

p.p.p.s grabe talaga yang miriam na yan, natapilok na labas na labas pa rin ang ****!

If you would like to see all the contestants for Miss Germany Universe 2002 on January 10th go to: www.missdeutschland.org
Then click on MGO D. Tursies
Then click on "Die Teilnehmerinnen" (at the top of the page)

A hot fav is Miss Hamburg NATASCHA BÖRGER. She was Miss Yaracuy in Miss Venezuela 2000 (the pageant that Eva won). But as she has dual citizenship she is allowed to participate in Germany.

fyi, you cant post pics from a diskette, but you can attach them.

the IMG button is for pictures found in the internet.

the reason why we cant view your previous posts is because the pics aren't uploaded into the internet. kungbaga, ikaw lang ang may kopya, since galing lang yun sa diskette, or your hard drive.

Sa website right click a picture, go to propperties, copy the address then click the IMG sa "replay" section then paste mo yung address. Lalabas agad yung pic.

2. I right-clicked on a pic.
3. Then, I clicked on "Properties".
4. Then, I highlighted the whole URL of the pic then right-clicked then I selected "Copy".
5. I pasted the entire URL in PEx.
6. I then added "" before the whole URL and added "" after the whole URL.
7. I then clicked on "Submit Reply" to return and see if my pictures appeared.
8. After mag-refresh yung page, I saw the pics I attached. They all appeared in my PC.

So please tell me if may mali sa steps ko or if may kulang. Thanks so much for your big help. I appreciate it talaga.

At the same time, I apologize din for the inconvenience I've been causing in this thread for the past 4 hours because my pics just wouldn't appear. I swear I'm doing my best to learn how to post here. Sorry guys ha...

Yeah... I remember Miss Aruba 2000 as one of the top favorites of Tom of Miss Universe Mania... As we all know, she also competed in the Italia nel Mundo and was a semifinalist... :bungi:

If you want to see the official pics of all delegates of Miss Germany 2002 go to:

www.rtl.de
then click on Life & Style (in the left column)
then click on Miss-Wahlen (in the left column)
then click on Miss Deutschland

One pic after another appears on your screen but in order to see the next pic you have to give points. 10,20,30,40 or 50 (10 is the worst mark and 50 is the best)

got some trivia over the internet..dont know if it's posted already...

*by strange coincidence, the first winners of the three major international beauty competitions married Filipino men? The first was Miss Universe 1952, Armi Kuusela of Finland, who married Virgilio Hilario. (They have five children, one of which became Miss Philippines herself - Anna Lisa Hilario was our candidate in the Queen of the Pacific 1974.) Second is Miss International 1960, Stella Marquez of Colombia who married Jorge Araneta. Third was Miss Asia 1965, Angela Filmer of Malaysia who married Jose Faustino. Incidentally, Stella Marquez de Araneta is the chairwoman of the Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc. since 1964 (the contest that selects winners for Miss Universe, Miss World and Miss International).

*the Miss Universe pageants in the years 1969, 1980, and 1984 of which Filipinas reign supreme, one very notable judge was Eileen Ford of Ford Modelling Agency? Could it be a possibility that she loves Filipina beauties (including Melanie Marquez in the Supermodel of the World contest in 1986)...co-incidence?

*that Elizabeth de Padua, Miss Philippines-Universe 1976 who represented the Philippines at the 1976 Miss Universe Pageant in Hong Kong, is now working at Kansas City Hospital as a Neurologist? Lizbeth graduated Summa Cum Laude from the most prestigious university in the Philippines, the University of the Philippines at Los Banos. She received a full medical scholarship to Temple University in Philadelphia, PA after graduating from UP. She is now happily married with a new surname (Dr. Elizabeth de Padua-Cravens) and with 2 children.

*that Cecilia Amabuyok, Miss Philippines-World 1968 and 4th runner-up at the 1968 Miss World, was a novice nun and entered the Miss Republic of the Philippines Pageant without the knowledge of her Mother Superior?

*that Miami, Florida has been a lucky pageant site for numerous Filipina bets in the Miss Universe Pageant? To name them: Lalaine Bennett (1963 Miss Universe 3rd runner-up), Louise Vail Aurelio and Maria Clarinda Soriano (1965 and 1966 Miss Universe semifinalists, respectively), Gloria Diaz (1969 Miss Universe), Vida Doria (Miss Photogenic 1971 Miss Universe), Maria Desiree Verdadero (1984 Miss Universe 3rd runner-up), and Abbygale Arenas (Miss Photogenic 1997 Miss Universe).

*that two of our world-class beauty queens have great men for ancestors? Gemma Cruz (Miss International 1965) is the grandniece (paternal side) of the National Hero Dr. Jose Rizal. Her grandmother, Maria, is a sister of Jose Rizal. She's a Guerrero on her maternal side. The Guerreros produced writers (like her mother Carmen), scientists, diplomats, priests. Margarita Moran (Miss Universe 1973) is the granddaughter of Supreme Court Chief Justice Manuel Moran and President Manuel Roxas. The other world-class beauties are Gloria Diaz (Miss Universe 1969), Aurora Pijuan (Miss International 1970) and Melanie Marquez (Miss International 1979).

*that the most famous woman in Spain is a Filipina? She is Madrid socialite Isabel Preysler, ex-wife of famous Latin singer Julio Iglesias and the mother of Enrique Iglesias, the guest singer at the 1997 Miss Universe Pageant. Isabel is a perennial winner in the Best-Dressed List of the Hola (Hello) Magazine. As noted in her unauthorized biography, she was known to have won the Miss Maxi-falda title in 1969 in Manila before she went to Spain. Her daughter Chabeli Iglesias is a Spanish-language TV personality in Miami and her other son, Julio Jose is a model and singer

*that during the prelims of Miss Universe 1973, a lady from the Hotel lobby observed and told Margarita Moran (Miss Philippines) that what makes her different and stand out from the other girls was that she had "Class of Royalty," and that she'll win the pageant? And she did

*that Miss Universe 1973 Margarita Moran, before she was crowned Miss Philippines 1973, did not ask permission from her parents to join the Miss Philippines pageant? Only then that her parents knew about it when she was crowned Miss Philippines 1973.

What went wrong and her name wasn't called in the Top 10 in Cyprus? Pageant critics worldwide believe that it was her "thunder thighs" during the swimsuit prelims and poor, poor choice for evening gown that killed her chances of making the cut.
