Thanks Jensie.

Wow! Iva looks a lot like Denise Quiñones in this picture. Anyway, could anyone post bigger preliminary pics of Iva?

So far, my top three are Colombia, South Africa & Venezuela.

And of course, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Miss Portugal to be the first semifinalist from her country.

The scores of the preliminary interview, swimsuit and evening gown competitions are added and averaged. The Top 10 composite averages among the 75 delegates will comprise the Top 10 semi-finalists, which will be announced during the Live Telecast on May 29.

jensie, the preliminary this year was via balloting. there was no computer terminals used by the judges, just paper ballot sheets just like what they did during this year's miss usa preliminaries kaya siguro may nag-triple tie. so walang pindutan ng scores na naganap. and regarding panama hosting next year's contest, well, the mu organization did not confirm it yet. :)

i was able to watch the telecast of Miss
USA last sunday and i must say Shauntay Hinton didn't impress me at all. She didn't even blow me off with her answers during the Q&A portion. Yes she was confident but the content of her answers don't have much punch.

Majority of Miss USA contestants were better looking than her. She has lots of zits in her face, her make up artist did a wonderful job concealing them during finals, though. If they were looking for a black winner, why didn't they just opted for Miss Minnesota, who i think is the most beautiful black finalist (4 of the 5 finalists were black and Shauntay was the most beauty-challenged of them all).

I could understand why a lot of people are not pleased with her winning the crown. No grace, no (physical) beauty AT ALL, and without excellent Q&A skills.

I would really be disappointed if she'd be named among the semi-finalists on Thursday. Kimberly Pressler's waaay better than Shauntay.

buhay pa ba ang tom's page of miss universe mania? i've been trying to access it lately pero unavailable lagi.

i love his pageant reviews. and he always had nice words for filipina delegates. i think he started in 1997 and in his predictions, she placed abbygale arenas among the top 5. in 2000 naman naman, nina was one of her three godesses along with india and usa. nina was his 2nd runner-up and said that she was way better than miriam, and he was very disappointed that nina didn't even figure in the actual top ten. zora was in his top 20 last year.

regarding miriam naman, i think she wasn't on his list. but when she won, he claimed that miriam daw was actually in his suspicions list.

MingTsai: Same tayo. I've been trying to access Tom's Page but it's always unavailable due to excessive bandwith thingie. May bago na kaya syang address/server? Pakiinform naman ako o. I also liked Tom's predictions and analysis.

A friend of a friend (our forum moderator) is in Costa Rica and he saw a delayed telecast of the Miss U prelims. He was impressed daw with Karen's performance. Whatever she lacked in facial beauty, nadaan daw sa projection. Sana naman totoo. I thought Karen (even in the pics) looked nice without trying hard. I hope the judges saw that.............

I remember the mock Top 10 of Miss Universe 1994. Miss Guam Christina Perez was the last to be called in. Sushmita Sen revealed na na-frustrate talaga siya when her name wasn't called coz she felt na "she didn't make an impression at all to the judges" and that "her chances were so slim" din daw... For short, she took the mock Top 10 so seriously na na-depress daw talaga siya... Pero come May 21, 1994 during the Live Telecast, she was the very 1st to be called into the Top 10 and she was overcome by joy... :)

I love your comment! CHIN-itas! Haha! Tama! :)

Anyway, you're right... Lara read somewhere na ang theme talaga ng Miss Universe 2002 ay "Eighties"... kaya that explains the mixed reactions people have for the delegates' official Arpeggio headshots... "eighties look" daw kasi yung pinagpilitan kaya ganun...

You're right... they should bring back those super sexy and daring Roberto Cavalli dresses!

I really don't like these Tadashi dresses... Ang taas pa naman ng expectations ko since Japanese brand and Tadashi eh... and the Japanese are supposed to be creative right? :(

Well, if they were to push the 80's looking attire (actually looked more like 70s to me), they should have made it in different colors........kung lahat ganyang lang kasing kulay parang drab...........

is that miss france at the back of miss angola, who's at the back of miss germany in their rehearsal pics? i'd rather she look that instead of her usual bun para hindi masyado maexagerate ang mga features niya.she does have very large eyes na naaaccentuate kung naka-bun siya.

These are my bets for the Miss Universe Crown in no particular order:

1. Germany - She has this "beauty queen appeal" I can't find in any other delegate. She is my "It" girl for this year's edition. In fact, I want her to win. If only she could change her gown to a better one come finals night.

2. Colombia - Whoever said that she is a Black Barbie is definitely correct. She is the first Miss Colombia since 1994 who made so strong an impact on me. And she has great clothes too. She must wear that red gown during the pageant.

3. Philippines - I have faith in this girl. She did not fail me during the local pageant. Great fashion sense. The white swimsuit really worked in her favor! And she has this Miss Philippines appeal I only found in Gloria Diaz, Armi Crespo, Desiree Verdadero, and Miriam Quiambao. This is the Miss Philippines the discriminating Miss Universe judge is looking for! And great legs too!

4. Curacao - Regal, serene, yet can be seductive in pictures. Great face with great skin. Much like Verna Vasquez of 1997.

5. Nigeria - Her country is fast becoming a pageant powerhouse! Agbani was just the start!

6. Puerto Rico - I like her better than Denise for being natural. And she seems unpretentious to me, too...

7. Portugal - Sweet girl. Not exactly pageant material but her simplicity is a welcome change.

8. South Africa - Rampadora! Great command of the stage. I'm eager to see her in action on pageant night.

9. Venezuela - Osmel made full use of his magic wand on this girl. I'd like to see her on pageant night with simple hair "down" style. From a mediocre sometimes ostentatious blondie to a brunette bombshell, she just might take it all.

10. Chile - Very appealing. Great gown, great projection. I wish to see her in full pageant action.

Hi to all the beauty pageant experts, special mention to Jensie_G, Lara, Chez-O,babyboi, et al.

My 10 semi-finalists for Miss U 2002 in no particular order:

1. South Africa
2. Russia
3. India
4. Puerto Rico
5. Nigeria
6. Germany
7. Venezuela
8. USA
9. China
10. Colombia or Portugal

Sorry to all the fans of Ms. Philippines, I don't think Ms. Philippines will make the cut considering there was a new mode of choosing the semi-finalists using paper votes and not electronic scoring, she's not a stunner, although she has a great body as seen during the Swimsuit. I think she'll just be a wallflower come pageant night. She really reminds me of Lorena, aka "Niknik", Simang's daughter in Sa Dulo ng Walang Hanggan

Hi skaya! :)

Thanks for posting your Top 10 bets here. :)

Miss Colombia Vanessa Mendoza... Her evening gown was designed by top Colombian couturier Jaime Arango-- the guy responsible for the "magical" and winsome gowns of Paula Betancourt, Carolina Gomez, Taryn Mansell (1st runners-up in Miss Universe '93,'94 and '96 respectively) and Zizi Lee (1st runner-up in Miss World 2001)...

She's more than just a Barbie doll... she's a mannequin!!! Perfect!!! Even Venezuela wasn't able to send a black delegate as perfect as Vanessa...

VA-VAVOOM!!! I definitely agree with ya! She looks hotter in 1-piece based from this pic.

Go Karen go!!!!

Also very evident dito sa pic na talagang malakas ang naiwang impression ni Miriam Quiambao sa mga sumunod sa kanyang Miss U delegates. Naging benchmark siya for what our Miss U delegates should look / dress like.

Pero wait maiba tayo... sana lang they will be allowed to introduce themselves during the Opening number / Parade of Nations, and not just shout out their countries' names... ( just like BE-NE-SWE-LAH!, ika nga ni Jensie) :D

I think Hair is one of d big factors para manalo in a beauty contest di ba? Its the crowning glory of a beauty queen. Look at the picture above (Nina Ricci Alagao), for me her hair looks messy in that pic coupled with an ugly gown. Paano sia mananalo?Ibang-iba sia when she was crowned in the Bb. Pilipinas. She looks better if she let her hair down......

Well hindi naman niya ginusto yun eh... She was ordered to have her hair done the very same way the Latinas did theirs'... specifically Venezuelans! For Pete's sake, Nina Ricci was a professional make-up artist and stylist!!! She should know what will best suit her for the competition night! Pero wala... she had to follow orders... how sad...

Nice thread! :) I've been following it.
But about the one-piece comment, Karen looks hot in it but if she opted for a one piece in Miss U, that would've hurt her badly. Most judges usually score delegates with one pieces lower because they think the delegate has something to hide.
Anyway, best of luck to Karen! I don't even care if she wins or loses because she's already a winner in my eyes. She has represented the Philippines very well and has definitely made her presence known in PR. I just hope the judges won't be biased this year and I hope they don't call certain undeserving delegates to boost ratings like last year (France, Israel). That was such a crock of bull$h!t.

Okay, here's my final top ten list. In alphabetical order.

CHILE - Her gown still has not charmed me that much but she is really pretty.

COLOMBIA - She has what it takes to win, this is the year of the blacks.

GERMANY - Peach may not be the right colour but you just gotta love this woman.

PORTUGAL - How could I not love this woman? She has enchanted me from the moment I saw her pic by the stairs, wearing white and with her hair straight. This thread proved I'm the notorious fan of Iva. I simply love her!

PUERTO RICO - Not counting on her being the winner but I still would love to see her in the top ten.

RUSSIA - Really beautiful! I hope she will do well.

SOUTH AFRICA - She is my favourite in the Preliminary Swimsuits.

TURKEY - She was amazing in Preliminary Swimsuits. Very beautiful!

UNITED STATES of AMERICA - Although I do not like her muscular physique, I think the judges will not overlook her. She has excellent communication skills.

VENEZUELA - The first Venezuelan that I really liked because she doesn't look TOO COMPETITIVE.
She is my favourite in the Preliminary Evening Gown.

Remarks:
-I noticed that Miss Universe Island also included Miss Portugal in their list. Looks like Filipinos were enchanted by this woman.
-If the judges would choose only 1 woman per batch, there would be a huge dilemma because Portugal, Puerto Rico and Russia belong to the same batch. And I'm guessing Russia will get the nod.
-Our very own Karen Agustin is still a question to me. I cannot give her my nod.
-India looks good but I didn't like her in both Swimsuit and Evening Gown.
-I wish this year's winner will be from a country who has never won. Just like in Miss World, so that we can all have a break from monotony.

As this year's pageant comes to a close, I wish to extend my gratitude to the following:
-the Miss Universe Organization for releasing 2 headshots of Miss Portugal. Guys, hold on to those photos.
-to Jensie for posting miscellaneous photos of Iva Lamarao and to Lara for Iva's Preliminary pics.

And in the words of Jennifer Connelly, here is my final thought on Iva Lamarao's chances of becoming Portugal's 1st Miss Universe semifinalist:

"I need to believe that something extraordinary is possible."

3. and the last Miss Universe to wear the classic rhinestone crown by the International Gem & Jewelry Show...

Wow!

Last thoughts:

I have to agree with Musique. I love Miss Venezuela becuase she doesn't look too serious pageant-wise as other Miss Venezuelans have been. Mukhang Cynthia's just having fun at hindi sobrang sineseryoso, defionitely a welcome break as a delegate from her pageant-crazy country.

I'd love to see Iva in the Top 10.

Shauntay may have received so much flak (and according to pageant spectators, the most bashed Miss USA delegate ever), yet when you see her onstage, she can really deliver. To think she's got the muscles and all! Yet she knows how to balance the classic beauty queen glide and the model catwalk judges seem to favor nowadays. Kaya pasok yan. I think this will be the first time I'll be sad if a Miss USA doesn't make it to the Top 10 (which is virtually impossible).

Yeah I know its a battle field in Puerto Rico. It's everybody's ballgame. The reason why im including Karen in my list because im being optimistic about her. She did not fail us in doing her job in Puerto Rico. I just hope and pray that the judges saw her hard works.

Guys. guess what!!!

I had a dream last night that Miss Philippines was named as the 5th semi finalist.

but usually naman a day before nang coronation ako na nanaginip...kaya sana tumugma yung panaginip ko kasi 2 daya ahead ako:lol:

Pansin ko lang rin....since year 2000 bakit ang gaganda nang pumapasok sa semis...talagang may mga looks.

Lalo na last year...yung top 5 malulupit ang looks.

darkhorse
Jamaica

Top 10

Philippines
columbia
usa
Venezuela
Germany
Greece
Chile
Puerto Rico
spain
India

Alternates
curacao
Panama

All I Know is that KAREN LOREN AGUSTIN will DO BETTER than Miriam Quiambao!!!

and my dream is TRUE

Wow!

(1) Is it true that a TV station in Aruba (Poets TV??? I forgot)already has the Top 10 list? Moreover, the station's rep, Zizi Lee (MW 1stRU 2001) and Ms. Aruba herself met with Mr. Trump to seal Ms. Aruba's inclusion in the Top 10 KUNO. BAD MR. TRUMP!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (if this is true)

After all, why doesn't Mr. Trump want to corner a market of 1 billion people? well.....

(3) Might as well put Mina Chiba in the Top 10, since the crown is from Japan, the opening number outfits are from Japan.......

QUESTIONS:

Wala bang Clairol Style Award this year? Sponsor pa ba ang Clairol?

Is it true na si Isis na ang Miss Photogenic?

Also, I read in the Miss USA messageboard that Miss Rhode Island allegedly destroyed a candidate's shoes and gown.........NASTYYYYYYYYYYYYY....very far from the ditsy-innocent Miss Rhode Island of Miss Congeniality the movie.......tsk tsk

Hi skaya! :)

Well, regarding Miss Rhode Island, I've been hearing na ibang klase daw ang attitude problem nitong babae na ito... Para bang may topak talaga. Basta karamihan (majority talaga) of all the delegates ay inis at iwas sa kanya... ang mga vocal dito sa issue na ito ay sina Miss Mississippi Heather Soriano and Miss Hawaii Juliette Lighter... Puro sila parinig nung segment nila with Ali backstage... :)

Hi chez-o! :)

Since it's China's first time to join Miss Universe, I'm sure something will come out of it... Remember Czech Republic, Slovak Republic and Botswana... they all made it the very first time they joined MU... Most probably ganun din ang China this year...

Miss Japan? Well, let's see... maganda siya and she really carried herself extremely well during the Presentation Show... And yeah, yun din nga ang sinabi ko kay Lara_D eh... baka pasok Japan this year coz they sponsored the Mikimoto crown & tiaras and the Tadashi opening number dresses...

Clairol ain't a sponsor of MUO anymore... kaya wala nang Clairol Herbal Essences Classic Style Award... pero may Style Award pa rin daw per se... I just dunno under what sponsor...

It's not true that Isis won the Photogenic Award... Only the Congeniality Award was awarded during the Presentation Show last Friday... the rest of the special awards will be awarded during the Live Telecast tomorrow... Isis can win... It's very possible... She looks more natural and refreshing than Denise kaya I'm sure she'll get lots of votes... most esp. from her countrymen and other Latin people...

Yeah, Miss Rhode Island is indeed one hell of a ***** according to various posters in message boards... oh well...

Ok call me obsessed but so are you so there!! Anyway, I just visited the official website and under fun stuff there is a choice to click and watch in depth interviews with specifically 24 girls from around the world. Many from the same regions so it's not like each one represented their general regions.

Pay close attention to the ones chosen and the one's left out. Venezuela, Colombia, Puerto Rico, Russia were all left out of this little thing and I find it strange that it is specifically 24 girls. This would be half of twelve and it sure would help a judge to see the girls in action as a spokesperson. Could this have been the 24 that the president of the organization said pay attention to as he liked these the best for the job? He should have a say so don't you think?

I know that the fans of many will lean on the bias latin press for their favorites if it favors them but I think this is the biggest clue and suggests what I have thought all along. The painted up pageant patty is missing from this group of 24 and only Dom Rep was allowed some time out of all the press favorites. It also suggests the press may have destroyed some of the girls chances by trying to control time for others. I think it's going to be very interesting not to hear Vene, Russia, Colombia, and Puerto Rico called. All hell may break out. I am convinced this 24 was pre picked by Trump. He probably said to the prelim judges that the winner will come from these twenty four and it doesn't matter who you pick but she comes from this group. I will say it again... He has that right to at least throw out his favorites. He's the boss. I LOVE the netherlands!!! Looks to me like the winner will not be the locals favorite!

mas matutuwa ako pag wala yung mga top fav.

the 24 countries allowed all the time in these vid's are:
Can,Pan,USA,DomRep,Netherlands,China,Jap,Ecu,Aus,NoMari,
T&T,Ind,Phil,Israel,Cyp,SouthAf,Fr,Bulg,Nig,Ghan,Guy,Nor,Maur,Ukr. This looks like Trumps picks. All semi finalists will have been in this section. Thats why they are there. (NT)

Don't you worry kasama daw sa 24 ang Philippines.:rocker:

In my opinion, Silvia Salgado is the last stunning rep Mexico ever sent to Miss Universe... After Silvia, Mexico could only send over-hyped and not-so-impressive reps...

(2) What time ipapalabas ang CNN Q&A about beauty pagents????

BTW, for everybody's info, Boy Abunda's Private Conversations will be about beauty queens. That's tonight after ABS-CBN Headlines.

Hi!

Sorry I dunno what time ipapalabas yung CNN Q&A about beauty pageants eh... I'll ask around.

Thanks for posting the info regarding Private Conversations. I'll watch out for it tonight! :)

Don't you worry... I'll post my prediction list very, very soon... Yeah I know the site... hehe... very revealing indeed! :)

Nope, it didn't come out prior to the Miss Universe 2001 pageant because if it did, Evelina could have been in deep, deep trouble... Remember Joyce Giraud and Helen Lindes? Topless photos of them were released just months before their respective Miss Universe pageants... they were almost expelled... Luckily, they weren't... The Miss Universe Organization allows these kinds of pictorials as long as they were done for the sake and glory of art...

This year, Miss Sweden Malou Hansson almost lost her crown after topless photos of her were revealed a day after winning in her national pageant... MUO defended the pics-- saying they were done for art's sake and besides Malou was a model for a Norwegian magazine before she entered the Froken Sverige 2002 pageant kaya ayun... she was set off the hook...

Nice thread. Though, some of the photos are large that it takes a while to download. I'm amazed at you people for getting those photos. I checked the Miss Universe website and it shows very limited photos. Sigh. It's tomorrow and I'm excited and nervous at the same time. I'm nervous because I'm always hoping for Miss Philippines to be in the top 10 or something. I have faith in our beauties.

Goodluck KAREN, we're be cheering you on.

and now with karen agustin...i favored her than kathy manalo in the binibini..but im having this gnawing, soooooooooo weird feeling that she wont place...i dont know why.

Hi suplado! :)

RPN 9's Live Telecast begins at 9:30 AM tomorrow.

The Prime Time Telecast airs at 7:00 PM.

However, if you're a Sky Cable subscriber, do check out the Thai channel (CH7)... I believe it also broadcasts the Miss Universe pageant. It did last year. Live talaga in the true sense and meaning of the word "live"...

There's also another alternative. For those who can't wait for the 9:30 AM telecast of RPN 9, an Aruban website will be offering a live webcast at 8PM (May 29, Aruba local time)... which means 8AM Manila local time! I forgot the URL of the site though...

I share the exact sentiments! Although I'm already a die-hard pageant fan and freak as early as 1992, nung 1999 lang talaga ako naging super inspired after Miriam's good showing in MU99. When Nina Ricci failed to enter the Top 10 ang tagal talaga bago ako naka-recover... weeks actually... I was sooo depressed and weak... para bang nabura ng konti yung achievement ni Miriam sa utak ko pero not naman totally...

Mas malala last year when Zorah failed to make the semi-final cut... Iba pala talaga ang feeling since close ako sa kanya and s a family friend namin ang mga Andams.... Masakit... No exaggerations-- it took me a month or two before I was able to recover... I even stopped surfing for pageant-related stuff eh... Coz depressed ako...

This year, I hope things would be different... I hope things would once again work in our favor...

Last week I was able to talk with Zorah. She told me that we have to believe Karen will make it no matter what. She needs all the prayers and support she can get... and we should prepare to accept God's will in the very last minute...

Di nanalo kasi ang vote ko which is Miss Greece 2001.

By the way here are my choices for Miss Universe 2002.

Miss U.S.A.
Miss Germany
Miss Venezuela
Miss India
Miss Philippines
Miss Russia
Miss Colombia
Miss Greece
Miss China
Miss Nigeria

This is my FINAL list for the Miss Universe 2002. Kahit 5 dito ay makapasok sa Finalist 10 bukas. Especially our own delegate - Miss Karen Agustin.

JENSIE_G
May 30, 2002, 12:55 PM
As promised, here's my prediction list for tomorrow's Miss Universe pageant...

After having gone through the delegates’ bios, Arpeggio interviews, Presentation Show pictures, miscellaneous pictures, personal backgrounds and national pageant performances… here are the delegates whom I strongly believe will make it to the semi-finals tomorrow…

1. Miss Venezuela Cinthia Lander- Months before her actual national pageant took place on September of 2001, Cynthia was already under the extensive beauty queen boot camp of Osmel Sousa. With more than 6 months of hard work, Cynthia’s as fierce as anyone could ever imagine. With a perfect and flawless command of English, a well-proportioned body and as well as cutting-edge designs by Angel Sanchez, how could Cynthia possibly go wrong?

2. Miss China Ling Zhuo- China was originally due last year. However, due to the political constraints between the White House and Beijing, its entry was called off. Through the perseverance of the Miss Universe Organization, it once again invited this world power to give the most prestigious beauty pageant in the universe a try. Luckily for MUO, China accepted the offer. Ling Zhuo was crowned in her national pageant in April. Zhuo embodies sheer elegance and style—two assets that the Miss Universe pageant goes for. Her beauty is soothing and at the same time mysterious. And to top it all, she did extremely well during the Presentation Show.

3. Miss Spain Vania Millan- Ever since Diana Noguiera’s excellent performance 3 years ago, Spain has been sending top caliber representatives—those who live by the motto “kill-or-be-killed”… Even though we were deprived of Lorena Van Heerde, I believe Vania is well-prepared and suitable to handle the “job”. She may not be as drop dead gorgeous as her predecessors, but Vania still exemplifies that charm and appeal innate to all Spaniards…

4. Miss USA Shauntay Hinton- The very first time I saw Shauntay’s headshot as then-Miss District of Columbia, I never took her seriously. In fact, she wasn’t even on my prediction list for Miss USA 2002! After she won, I was mesmerized by her charm and unique personal sense of style. When I got to watch the delayed telecast of her national pageant last Sunday, the more I was convinced that this girl can “take it all” tomorrow… Anything could happen. She has superb catwalk skills! (Something I never saw in past Miss USA titleholders) She’s a communications senior in her university. She also works for a television network in her state. This girl surely knows how to talk, talk and talk…

5. Miss Colombia Vanessa Mendoza- Miss Universe has its own little way of honoring the “firsts” that come its way… Well, Vanessa’s her country’s first ever representative of color. Vanessa has this certain look and aura that can surely stop traffic or draw a crowd. Her wardrobe has been taken care of by Jaime Arango—the very same guy responsible for the “magical” and winsome gowns of Paula Betancourt, Carolina Gomez, Taryn Mansell (1st runners-up of Miss Universe ’93,’94 and ’96 respectively) and Zizi Lee (1st runner-up in Miss World ’01)… Dubbed as the “black Barbie” by many, Vanessa’s beauty is skin deep. Her compassion for the poor and downtrodden and as well as her support for the Colombian army has made her public figure worthy of notice.

6. Miss India Neha Dhupia- Although Neha wasn’t able to impress me much with her swimsuit and evening gown performances during the Presentation Show, she surely knows how to talk… Coming from a nation that has produced 7 international titleholders in less than 10 years, it’s just impossible to ignore Neha. During her national pageant on January 19, she charmed everyone with her wit and intelligence. There were many other deserving ladies but fate remained by her side all the way. With the exception of 1991, India has made it to the semi-finals since 1990… a concrete proof that eloquence combined with beauty always yield success.

7. Miss Russia Oksana Fyodorova- Oksana was originally due last year. She was crowned in her national pageant on April 16, 2001. However due to constraints with her studies at her country’s Interior and Local Ministry, her trip to Bayamon was called off. Her 1st runner-up Oxana Kalandyrets was sent instead. As we all know, Oxana made it to the Top 10. This year, Oksana is more than determined to win her country’s first ever Miss Universe crown. Her Presentation Show performances were superb! Her figure is perfect and her white ball gown was flawless. She carried herself extremely well. And let us not forget, there was a Russian among the Presentation Show judges…

8. Miss Puerto Rico Isis Casalduc- Never underestimate the power of the hometown queen. Denise proved that the impossible can be attained and that true competition is never for the faint-hearted. Isis is determined to prove this once again this year. Never had I seen such a makeover and training as extensive and strong as that of Isis. Armed with wit and elegance, Isis proves to be one of her island’s classiest and most beautiful women. Tomorrow, Isis is going for the kill. Anything could happen. Her evening gowns were taken care of by Luis Antonio. The rest of her dresses were done by Angel Olivera—the very same guy who did those of Joyce Giraud 4 years ago.

9. Miss Jamaica Sanya Hughes- Sanya was crowned the “million-dollar” Jamaican beauty queen last March 26. The prize money that Pulse Modeling Agency gave away was truly worth every penny… Not only is Sanya articulate and eloquent, she also has one of the most perfect figures this year. In my opinion, she’s the strongest from the Caribbean this year. Jamaica has made it to the Miss Universe semi-finals only thrice (1989, 1991 and 1999) and I’m pretty sure Sanya will be the fourth… She can even be her island’s 1st ever Miss Universe. Let’s wait and see. Anything could happen.

10. Miss Philippines Karen Agustin- What more can I say? I watched Karen win at the Araneta Coliseum last March 16. This girl has it. She knows how to project and she also has superb catwalk skills. She may have worn unconventional gowns, yet she still carried them well. The very first time I saw her official shots in the official Bb. Pilipinas 2002 website during the 1st week of March, I knew she was going to win. And she did win. It’s been 29 long years since we last bagged the Miss Universe crown… I believe it just might be our time again…

Oh well, I’m still frustrated Misses France, Portugal, Cyprus, Nigeria, Japan, Chile and Germany didn’t make it to my final prediction list. Haay… Oh well… Let’s enjoy na lang the pageant tomorrow…

Pray and hope for the BEST! Good luck Karen!!!

Hi Jensie!

Anong Aruban website yun? Since na nandito ako sa isang Internet Cafe sa Manila which I'm doing the part time job baka pwede mo naman i share sa akin ang mga sites ng Live Webcast sa Miss Universe 2002. I'm excited to watch it tomorrow. Please give the sites. Thank you so much!

Hi augustus_caesar! :)

Here's the URL of that Aruban website... I'm sharing it to everyone. I'm sure nabasa na rin ito ng iba on various message boards...

The URL is http:www.telearuba.aw

You have to have a Real player installed in your PC pa in order to be able to watch the live webcast.

Hi there! :)

Tomorrow na pala yung Miss Universe no, grabe. :)

Hi JEnsie_G! :)
I like your top 10. Pilipinas World 2002). I must say pretty siya. :D

Let us all pray for Karen tomorrow. MABUHAY!

I like Miss China 2002. She is so stunning!

I think she will be the bombshell candidate of Miss Universe 2002.

May laban ang Miss China 2002 sa Miss Universe. I think she will be the first Chinese delegate will get the Miss Universe crown.

My Top Ten!

First and foremost, I really had a hard time choosing this top ten. Because I have 5 more delegates in mind. But I guess I'll have to stick with my intuitions and base my decision with the impact these delegates have on me!

By region/continent...

From Asia

China Ling Zhou - This is the first time that the People's Republic of China is joining Miss Universe. And we all know how well first-timers fare in this pageant. We had Slovak Republic in 1994, Botswana in 1999, and Czech Republic in the early 90s. Plus, she's a pleasant surprise because she speaks English. And if she makes it, she will put on a good fight against the powerhouses. Nice long legs, and cute cheong sam-inspired Evening Gown.

Philippines Karen Agustin - She was not my original bet for Bb. Pilipinas-Universe. I didn't believe in her and I thought her glamour photos released by Mabuhay weren't all that flattering. But come Presentation and Preliminary Shows, she stunned me with her grace and elegance. I think her best weapon is her body so I expect her to shine in the Swimsuit (ala Miriam!) Great projection and nice command of the English language.

India Neha Dhupia - I'm not impressed with her preliminary showing. And rumours had it that she wasn't satisfied with her preliminary interviews. But she's Miss I-N-D-I-A. She will really make it because of the name of the country in her sash!

From Africa

South Africa Vanessa Careira - My oh my! I'd have to commend the Miss South Africa Organization for sending such a strong representative this year. No doubt about it. She's consistent in all of the competitions (EG, LG, INT). One of my favorites for the crown.

Nigeria Chinenye Ochuba - This has gotta be a first for me. I never was fond of black girls in beauty pageants but gawd, not even Agbani had this impact on me. Chinenye is my numero uno favorite in this pageant with her long legs, beautiful smile, sparkling eyes, great personality, and elegance in Evening Gown. I love her interviews very much especially the World Tour Interview. She seems fun to be with. Good luck!! You're my favorite!

From Europe

Germany Natascha Borger Sevilla - She might come across as being manufactured, had plastic surgeries and all. But we just can't deny the fact that she once was a contender of Miss Venezuela Pageant. And that delivered fruitful results. I think her best weapon is her body so she should be able to flaunt it well in the Swimsuit competition.

France Sylvie Tellier - Ya all know pretty well, I'm a big supporter of Sylvie. She's my sentimental favorite. I like her fashion sense, and her evening gown's quite unique. ELEGANCE is written all over her.

From South America

Venezuela Cynthia Lander - I'd have to admit I was very harsh on her when she won Miss Venezuela. I didn't see her potential and I thought it was rigged in her favor. Obviously, I wasn't aware of how powerful Osmel's magic wand is. It made the old blonde Cynthia into a new ravishing brunette! She'll make it. The Miss Venezuela sash is already enough reason for her to enter the semis.

Colombia Vanessa Mendoza Bustos - Like I've always reiterated that Colombians do well in an even year. I think Vanessa won't be an exception to that. She's dubbed as the "black barbie." And I think she really deserves that. She's very beautiful. She was very hot in her swimsuit pix released prior to the pageant. And I think her gown is very lovely. I don't understand why people couldn't appreciate the gown in Various Message Boards. Watch out for her.. Top Three material.

The lone North American in my Top Ten

USA Shauntay Hinto - One of my favorite American delegates, the other two being Ali Landry (96) and Lynette Cole (2000). Shauntay is one hella unconventional beauty. I didn't pay much attention to her until I saw the Miss USA pageant the other night. And I must say she's got the attitude. Very natural.

Ok. So here are the other five delegates who didn't make it to my top ten. But there's a probability that they'd sneak in for some reasons.

Russia Oksana Fyodorova - A lot of people have her in their top ten. She's beautiful! No doubt about it. But I just don't see the spark. She might as well make it because of a Russian judge in the Prelims.

Spain Vania Millan - We all thought it was goin to be Lorena Van Heerde but because of the scandal in the pageant, and misunderstanding with the organization, she turned down the chance to represent Spain. I think it was just sayang. Now, Vania was chosen by the MUO. And she hasn't been making waves compared to her predecessors. Remember: A lot of people have high regards for Spain because of their 3-year semi-final streak and the quality of delegates that they send in. Obviously, Vania failed to come close to the pedestal of Eva Siso, Helen Lindes and Diana Noguiera.

Japan Mina Chiba - Its a pleasant surprise that the Land of the Morning Sun was able to send a lovely delegate this year. Thanks to their new organization and franchisee. She has the body (very sexy!) and a unique gown but she didn't leave an impression. No spark whatsoever. But anywayz, if politics will get in the way.. She might make it. Because the new Mikimoto crown was made in Japan. And the opening number dresses are also Japan-made.

Portugal Iva Lamarao - I agree, she's gotta be the strongest that Portugal has ever sent in this pageant. But they are often overlooked. Iva's got such a sweet face. An ok performance in swimsuit and long gown. Not much has been said about her in various message boards but hey, she's popular in PEx. Right Musique?

Jamaica Sanya Hughes - Not really a stand-out to me. But she's ok in her swimsuit. I didn't like the evening gown though. Nevertheless, she won't be a surprise if she makes it.

So there, My top 15 delegates! I don't have Puerto Rico, Isis Casalduc and Dominican Republic, Ruth Ocumarez because HYPE is written all over their face. Although Isis Casalduc is an expected semi-finalist. I will stand firm by my judgments. She's no Denise Quinones. The First and Second Runners-Up Awards in National Costume are already enough. Tama na po. Wag maging gahaman.

No more cheating please?! :teehee:

But the hoarding of awards last year was just too much! For one thing, the Swimsuit Fitness Award should have been awarded to Miss Greece 2001, Evelina Papantoniou. The Best in Long Gown? Miss Venezuela was there. Don't tell me they didn't notice her up the stage. And the Miss Photogenic? Alright. Alright. She's photogenic. So WAS Miss Sweden last year.

You know, beauty pageants can really get in their nerves at times. And that sücks! Big Time! I hope next year the Miss Universe Organization would choose another venue other than places in Latin America.

I have been lurking in this thread for the longest time and I have to say great job everyone. I too, would like to share who I think will make it to the top 10. Here it goes...

Philippines - Of course this list wouldn't be complete without her. I know she is not one of the most beautiful out there but she has class. I am confident that she will make it this year.
Nigeria - Nigeria is the new African beauty pageant powerhouse. I just love how the swimsuit look on her.
Colombia - Over-hyped perhaps? But she really deserves a spot in the top ten at least.
Dominican Republic - One of the prettiest faces this year, I know she will make it to the top.
Chile - Lonshot, but she has the makings of a Miss Universe. I wouldn't be surprised if she makes it to the top 10.
Portugal - This girl reminfd me of Olivia Williams. She may not have the beauty queen aura but I think she really is pretty.
Curacao - My number one pick, Curacao has the makings of a beauty queen. I've never really read anyu interviews of her. I just hope that she has the brains. I remember in 1995 or was it 1996, when Miss Curacao scored high in the prelims but she just didn't do well in the interviews in the semis.
China - She can make it.
Korea - This year is the year of the Asians. She is stunning yet casual. Sexy yet girlish. I just simply love her.
Greece - I always believed that last year's Miss Greece really won that crown. Even though she is not as pretty as last year's representative, I think she too can make the cut. I just love her evening gown

Uhmm... not really... According to Zorah, Denise was truly what the Miss Universe Organization was looking for last year... Denise fit perfectly daw into the Miss Universe stereotype-- having a great audience impact, big hair, perfect smile and teeth, flawless skin, and a great personality... So for short, siya talaga ang destined to win last year... :)

Yeah baby_boi is correct. Pero I agree na she's photogenic. She deserved the Photogenic Award! Pero yung Clairol Style Award? Hmmm.... No!!!

PHILIPPINES - Karen Agustin: This time around Filipinos do have what to rave about. Karen amazed the Universe during her sexy va-va-voom gown presentation. Her figure is also among the best, and so is her personality. Some of the delegates we spoke to told us that they would be happy to see Miss Philippines winning because she is one of the nicest girls around. In terms of facial beauty Karen was not among the major standouts, however, everything else, she has. We may see her in the top 10.

i hope so!

Good Morning! Haay... I'm so excited. Hello sa mga pageant fanatics jan! Hihihi... Just dropin by, baka kasi meron ng top 10! Well I'll be back later sa resulta!

Waahh... :( Well Good Luck sa ating lahat. :)

Huli ko na itong sasabihin.

GO KAREN!
