You know what, when I was a kid... I really used to believe that the Little Miss Philippines Pageant in Eat Bulaga selected the Little Sister of our country to the Miss Universe! hehe! How dumb can I get??? :) Yun naman pala the Little Sisters come from the country (venue) of the Miss Universe pageant in a given year from 1987 to 1994... hehe!

Tapos they say na kung sino yung cute na batang na-close up shortly before the Evening Gown competition starts was the Little Miss Universe winner... Nung 1994, it was Little Miss Namibia who was closed-up... Nung 1989, it was Little Miss Denmark... Yun lang naaalala ko...

NOTE: Just like Cynthia Lander, Marena also received her own share of negative feedback and criticisms hurled from virtually all directions. A lot were skeptic about her chances... a lot were fed up with Venezuelans making it big in international pageants like Miss Universe... But come finals night on May 16, 1997, Marena proved all her detractors WRONG... from an unflattering and low preliminary placing, Marena charmed her way to the Top 3... and then to the 2nd spot overall...

Kaya we should never underestimate Cynthia... come May I know she'll make a difference in San Juan... and I'm just scared of what Osmel can and will do just to collect his fifth Miss Universe crown in just 23 years...

Of the 10 South American beauties competing in this year's Miss Universe pageant, 8 are known to be above 5'9" in height. They are Misses Venezuela, Chile, Brazil, Uruguay, Peru, Bolivia and Paraguay... I'm just not so sure about Miss Guyana's height measurement... I think she's also 5'10" too (basing it on her crowning picture wherein halos ka-height na niya si Mpule)...

The two who were left out where Miss Ecuador (5'9.5") and Miss Colombia (5'8")... Vanessa Mendoza is the shortest South American in this year's Miss Universe pageant... :)

The last time Peru won a special award was in 1995, when Paola Dellepiane won the Style Award in Windhoek, Namibia.

The first and last time Peru won the Miss Universe title was way back in 1957, when Gladys Zender won it in Long Beach, California. She was the 1st ever South American to win in Miss Universe! :)

For two consecutive years (2000 and 2001), the Miss USA pageant was televised via RPN 9 exactly a week before Miss Universe took place. I believe the same thing will happen for this year... let's just wait for further announcements...

Catharina considers her having won Miss Earth a big thing now because "in Denmark, beauty pageants are nothing special. We never have a Miss Denmark beauty pageant. It’s just not a tradition in Northern Europe. But I think they are starting to think about it now."

I remember the discussion of why Danish beauties are so scanty in beauty queen. Ive got that one from the interview of Ms. Earth 2001 and I think it shed some light on why we keep missing these Danish girls :wink:

Yup she was a titleholder however she was dethroned because of nationality issue and she was replaced by Jewel Lobaton in 1998.

I have seen Vanessa Mendoza's wardrobe for this year's pageant and I must say that she looks absolutely amazing in them. Every gown and dress spells out "Give me the crown!!!".

Although I'm not at all excited about the red evening gown. I mean its nice for a gown as it is, but it doesn't really spell out elegance. I mean I was hoping her Evening gown would be as elegant as those of Carolina Gomez' and Catalina Acosta's. I just hope that there is a very elegant and lovely evening gown that is not for public viewing and she will wear on the Live Telecast and surprise everyone.

I have seen Vanessa Mendoza's wardrobe for this year's pageant and I must say that she looks absolutely amazing in them. Every gown and dress spells out "Give me the crown!!!".

Although I'm not at all excited about the red evening gown. I mean its nice for a gown as it is, but it doesn't really spell out elegance. I mean I was hoping her Evening gown would be as elegant as those of Carolina Gomez' and Catalina Acosta's. I just hope that there is a very elegant and lovely evening gown that is not for public viewing and she will wear on the Live Telecast and surprise everyone.

The red evening gown that Lara posted is Vanessa's evening gown for the Presentation Show and Live Telecast... It was designed by Colombian couturier Jaime Arango-- ther very same guy who did the evening gowns worn by Paula Betancourt (Señorita Colombia '93), Carolina Gomez (Señorita Colombia '94), Zizi Lee (Miss Aruba World '01) and Denise Balinge (Miss Aruba Universe '01)...

I just hope she could have posed in a more formal and classy manner... posing on the streets with that elegant gown just doesn't impress me much...

Nevertheless, Lara's right... Vanessa is a force to reckon with come May 24 (Presentation Show)... Will Vanessa be Colombia's 2nd ever and South America's 1st ever black Miss Universe? Let's all see how she does... :)

I haven't seen that gown pic of Carolina before. Very rare indeed. It's quite funny that the gown that got the highest score in MU history was a recycled gown pa (she used that pala in Miss Colombia). Yeah, even Venezuela hasn't beaten them, they only had 2 straight years of being 1st runners up.

Here are two of the Miss Philippines 2002 candidates... magaganda naman sila ah... lakas ng appeal... however, in my opinion, they are joining the WRONG pageant... they should wait and join Bb. Pilipinas 2003 na lang sana... :)

I asked Zorah the very same thing last year shortly after she returned from Puerto Rico. She told me she didn't bother to ask for her overall ranking in the pageant because it didn't matter anymore to her...

We are not sure if she ranked 27th overall, as Global Beauties reported...

The same goes for Nina Ricci... we aren't sure about her overall rank. I've read, though, that she ranked 41st overall-- something that I just can't accept if ever it's true.

I think Claudia's costume is the most unconventional Miss Venezuela costume. I hope Cynthia's costume would not turn out to be an insect again. They look more ravishing with their ala-Gone with the Wind inspired ones, like Eva last year. They really look like goddesses.

My cousins and I love Alicia Machado former Miss Universe we are glad that we can see her on tv today. Fortunately we have watched Miss Venezuela were she won. The gown she's wearing in the MIss Universe pageant was exactly the gown that another contestant wore in Miss Venezuela but the color is yellow. She is wearing a gold gown which is really beautiful for her. :)

According to the Miss Peru Message Board, Adriana will wear to the Miss Universe 2002 Presentation Show the very same gown she was wearing when she was crowned Miss Peru Universo 2002 last April 27...

This gown reportedly costs US $ 3,000 (that's roughly around Php 150,000). It was embroidered by hand and is adorned with crystals...

Miss Colombia can really carry it well, she has this aura that says she's going to do good. Though I find her red gown very plain nga. I prefer this one, but I doubt if she would wear this during the Presentation Show.
