i always wanted to have a big bike since i was a kid.
i do have a scooter, an old one... a Hona Eve Smile. kinda corny, though... with plastic body. but my dog chewed some of it away.

i'm looking for any SMG like an MP5 (A5, A4, PDW, etc) and a Glock 18C (yung may full auto). second hand of course. the cheaper the better.
as for motorcycles, try visiting motorcyclephilippines.com and go to the forums. there are a lot of info there for newbies looking to buy a bike, both second hand and brand new.

hi! im the official backrider (wife) of the president of MIB. he rides a honda cb650 and yamaha virago xv750. those who are not affiliated with any clubs, feel free to join the MIB's. they accept all types of motorcycles, from scooters all the way to harley davidson. they meet every tuesday evenings at starbucks rockwell. by the way, my husband goes by the handle "Rattrapante".

Personally I'm very ignorant of motorbikes...I only know basic knowledge.
Anyone care to educate me on which 'bikes are the volume-sellers? Also how much would premium bikes (say, Yamaha, Ducati and BMW) cost?
shun_sakurai
Feb 13, 2004, 10:34 PM
Am also curious about how a motorbike's engine size will correlate to how it performs.
So far, I know that:
- scooters have 50-70cc motors, can go up to 100cc+
- 125-150cc bikes are used for tricycles and delivery services (volume-selling models?)
- 400cc bikes are allowable on the expressways
- sport bikes and Harley-style lowriders are 500-1000cc
What else should a bike neophyte like me know?
ichi
Feb 15, 2004, 08:39 AM
shun....scooters go up to 600cc =) but theyre not for sale in the Phils....sayang...hehehe
shun_sakurai
Feb 15, 2004, 04:19 PM
600cc scooters? That'd be a sight to see here :) Largest local scooter engine I've heard of was 175cc.
I'm curious---I know bikes have a throttle, brake and clutch, but the throttle is the only one I seem to know how to operate. :|

Feb 15, 2004, 05:06 PM
Some of the best sport bikes out there can cost up to the price of a car depending on what bike you get and how big the engine is... most Ducati's, Bimotas, and other European bike brands come at a hefty price that even rivals the price of Civics and the like... but most Japanese sport bikes like Kawasaki, Suzuki, Honda, and so on should have their top contenders priced in the sub 500k range... I haven't been checking prices so I'm not so sure anymore. :p
blakedaddy
Feb 15, 2004, 06:20 PM
the vespa px200 is 200cc and a piaggio gilera runner is 180cc
I'm a big fan of scooters and a number of select sport bikes and cruisers
ichi
Feb 15, 2004, 08:13 PM
Mokkori is right, as for prices, European bikes does cost a bit more and for me, they aren't that good compared to japanese bikes =)
Mokkori
Feb 16, 2004, 03:47 AM
Yeah... European bikes are a novelty at best... performance wise, Japanese bikes will go toe to toe with their Euro counterparts any day... it'll really depend on the rider I guess... much more driver involvement in bikes than in cars after all... :)

i'm planning to buy a sym jet 100 euro. pwede ba yun sa edsa. thanks in advance.

Feb 16, 2004, 09:18 PM
nameless_one, yea pwede sha pero bawal sa edsa. Honestly, You're better off buying a 2nd hand vespa or a honda xrm than a sym jet. Maporma sha, pero maraming kilala ko nagsasabi sirain daw ang jet

ok, thanks. dapat yata magbasa-basa muna ako ng mga message boards at reviews ng mga scooters bago bumili para matuto ako.

If you're gonna buy a scooter or a motorbike, better stick to the Japanese brands, mas durable ang mga ito and maraming available na parts and most of all theyre cheaper than the euro types, lalo na sa spare parts!*okay*
I have a 1997 Yamaha Target 90cc scooter, bought it here locally and i got it brand new for 46K... di na ata sila naglabas nito after 1998 pero i must say, maganda ang perfromance nito and very durable sya, well except for the casing ha, kasi made of hard plastic which tends to get "marupok" pag laging nabibilad sa araw... and since 1997 or 6-7 years ago, di ko pa sya napa-overhaul or kalikot ng makina. Just the usual tuneup, change oil lang... Pinalitan ko din yung pipe nya into a tune pipe which cost me 2500 pero ok lang, nag improve ang performance nya lalo na sa fuel efficiency and sa speed... it can go to as fast as 120kmh, pero i think kaya pa bumilis lalo kaso sagad na yung speedometer kaya hanggang dun lang, tsaka kakatakot din eh, hehehe.*okay*
Basta sa scooter, avoid buying yung non-Japanese or Euro brands specially the cheaper ones lalo na yung made in CHINA, nakupo, trust me, dali masira neto kahit na super alaga ka!;)

-- how much ba budget mo pare? nothing against sym pero if you have a budget na ganun you have more options, take into consideration these bikes:
honda xrm, honda wave 125
suzuki raider 125, suzuki shogun
kawasaki leojet
lifan saturn
piaggo vespa
are you looking for a bike na walang gear shifting na at drive nalang or kahit may kambyo ok lang sayo?

SYM i believe is made in Taiwan!;)
Honestly pre, ok sana ang SYM, kaso mahina ang durability eh, kumbaga sa car brand, eto yung mga Hyundai, Kia, Daewoo na maganda ang itsura at performance sa umpisa, pero di tumatagal:D..... pero compared to the ones that are made in China, i'd rather go for a SYM, at least dami at marami available na spare parts including racing kits!:D
Wala naman kasi scooter dito na brand new binebenta ang Honda or Yamaha eh... Yung mga euro naman like Piaggio, Peugeout, etc, sobrang mahal!;)

-- yup taiwan ang SYM. Ther are a few select taiwan made scooters and bikes that have been getting good reviews. Sa tingin ko, sym jet lang ang over rated sa sym brand. Mukhang ok ang sym atilla, but again I cold be wrong. From what I've been hearing from different veteran bikes, ok daw ang Lifan and its quality is almost comparable to the japanese brand.
tama nga sabi ni mr MC_316, walang scooter na brand new here, yung ibang scooter, may gears na, if you wanna look into those, good luck and have fun

i've always wanted a Ducati, but ever since i slipped off a 400cc Honda with minor injuries a few years ago, i vowed never to ride a bike again.
maybe i'll buy one for display purposes.

Thanks for your inputs. Another brand I heard a lot is Kymko. Any comments?
Actually, I'm planning to buy a scooter for utility purposes lang, like going to a near fast food chain for take-out. Medyo utusan kasi ang role ko ngayon dito sa bahay namin eh.
So, I'm not that keen when it comes to performance.

i want a motorbike.. those fast ones that you always see in the movies (the ones the bad guys always use)
ninja ba tawag dun? no idea..
how much would a second hand bike like that go for...?
Mokkori
Feb 23, 2004, 03:46 AM
Ninja? I think those are the Kawasaki ZX series... my friend got a ZX6R a few years back... I think he got it for around +200k... a second hand one might go for a little less now depending on how old it is or what the mileage is. Although I think new ones cost much more nowadays... I'm just guessing somewhere around 300k now... :|
blakedaddy
Feb 23, 2004, 01:31 PM
a ninja could cost up to six digits. basta 250cc pataas, 6 digis presyo nun expect if its an old model and second hand. A brand new ducati can reach up to 500t

hehe, my vote goes the the XRM 110 for price, performance, and dress-up options; plus di na kailangan intindihin yung clutch. BTW, anyone know where i could get a low price for the pointy-tail accessory and the blue laser light attachment for the roadglow effect?

hi, there im a big fanatic of scooters and underbones.... right now i owned a SYM JET100, KYMCO SPIKE, HONDA XRM, SUZUKI RAIDER and A HONDA DIO3...
like yourself i also used some of my bikes for utility purposes like bringing some goods for my mom's business and buying some food during late night...
except for my raider and jet that i used for racing....
SYM JET are good, especilly when it comes to handling.. hindi sya madali dumulas kahit umuulan kasi 130mm ang width ng tyres nya... kymco's are good too... they have a CASA on paranaque that offers service warranty, for exmaple my brother used my spike, he was bumped from the side... then nasira yun pipe ko, dinal ko sya sa casa for replacement, nun magbabayad na ako nagulat ako FREE un pipe kasi ynderf warranty daw... other brands doesn't offer this good service..
if you are still planning to buy a scooter for utility purposes I suggest you take consideration at a KYMCO TOPBOY..

Technically, you shouldn't be advertising this in The Pitstop... and on that note... you're not supposed to do it in Hobbies & Recreations either... I've moved it here and deleted it already so that's fixed. But I'll cut you some slack on this post and just merge it with the existing motorcycles thread so everyone who posts here can see it. Cool?

what are the different between the different bike types such as Sports, Cruiser, Touring..etc...?
morrissey_05
Oct 31, 2005, 02:33 PM
sport bikes are those you see on racing channels. the riding position is hunkered down into the tank.
cruisers have a more relaxed riding position, like harleys. they are slower than the sport bikes.

how is the gas consumption of morocycles compared to cars? like how is the gas consumption of a Honda High Class sports bike or a cruiser as compared to a car?
morrissey_05

hmm i havent seen any test, but the difference is pretty good to conclude that you save more riding a bike than using your car. a full tank on my bike, which cost a little less than P500, can last a week. thats riding from QC to pasig. on my car, thats only around 3 to 3 and a half days.
