View Full Version : NO-UNIFORM DAY for Thomasians... What do u think?
kLaZoManiaC
Nov 11, 2001, 06:01 AM
Hmmm... aren't you gettin' tired of just wearing your uniforms every single day that u go to your college in UST? :o
don't u think it's about time that we be given a chance to wear whatever we want to (well, at least with some limitations...) for at least a day each week?
if we'll be given this so called 'WASH DAY' by other schools, then on what day do u think should it be implemented?

Hmmmm... yeah... I also wasn't that comfy wearing whites back then.... If they're going to grant this one-day wash-day, maybe on a Saturday???? :p

yup this topic was brought in to proposal so many years ago, but sad to say...cafa lang yata ang meron nun...or ab?
our uniforms elminates, in a certain degree, the practice of social elitism.

Well, there's that possibility that students would "show off" pero bakit naman sa UP? As in dinaman fashion-conscious mga tao don, pero meron ding iba....
But the point is, would it be also so nice for each student to be able to dress themselves up according to their preferences? Nasa tao naman yan, e.... If you wanna be fashion-conscious e di okay, pero if you wanna remain simple and just dress comfortably, e di okay din...
Kaya lang, I've gotten used na to the thought that Thomasians have uniforms.... I guess it's not masagwa naman, and it gives Thomasians a certain identity. So, okay lang. Pero a one-day wash-day would be great, so that there's a breather. Kasi kaming nasa Science dati, nakapalda pa, and naka shoes pa... parang mas comfortable kung minsan naka-rubber shoes di ba? minsan naka maong and t-shirt lang... Hehehehe..... jologs.

oo nga... kaya nga it would be a great deal fur us if we'll be given a one-day wash day... kakasawa din yata laging naka uniform! :bigvomit:

I've experienced having a wash day back in UST high school. At first, sobrang lahat nag-agree sa survey at excited. Pero after a year, our batch were the first ones to disagree with it kasi mauubusan ka ng damit. Minsan kahit na may guidelines kung ano ang bawal at my restrictions, meron pa ring nagdamit na parang nagfa-fashion show, to think na HS palang mga yun. How much more pag college students, kahit na sabihin nating mas may isip na sila...i don't think so they'll be matured enough to follow the proper dress code, mga fashion statements pa man din ngayon sobrang tipid sa tela at iba naman, weird.
More important reason, is for security reasons I think di papayag ang UST. At isa pa, serves as our identity din yun eh. Kaya..I don't agree with this issue. :)

Nov 12, 2001, 09:20 PM
Maileen1 also made a good point there.
Before the students could get inside their campus, they have to flash a portion of their ID onto a verifying machine that confirms that each of them is really a student of their school. Though they are wearing civillian, it wouldn't be hard for the security to monitor the students.
Pero bakit ang Ateneo and UP, they can afford to let their students wear civillian despite not having the technology DLSU and Mapua have when it comes to the ID system?

Tsaka before may name plate kami, nakalagay yung name and course.

alam mo halos 80% akong sigurado na we cant implement that dlsu id system they're having...
first of..
maliit ang gate ng dlsu... so i-compare mo nalang yan sa ilang gates meron ang ust... hindi pwedeng pumasok ang mga civilians sa dlsu, unless you have business there- sa ust, nako! mga snatchers naglipana kahit saan...maganda nga ang loob natin..security sucks BIG time!
2ndly..
UST is a ?public place? merong hospital, museum & chapel- na hindi naman mukhang chapel. kaya hindi ito exclusive sa atin... eh maski sa mga college buildings na nga lang eh kahit sino pwedeng makapasok, just tell them na may pupuntahan kalang na si ganitong prof...
last..off topic...medyo sablay
yeah grad na rin ako! hahahah well, there's no harm in trying the said proposal, right?
white uniform talk...
science- a line daw yung skirt....
pharma- straight ang skirt, blouse is a little diff sa sci (collar)
educ- blouse
commerce- halos pareho ng skirt ng pharma, blouse ng educ
nursing- obvious naman eh
pt- lalo na to
cafa- eh!
ab- naka uniform pala sila!?! no offense ha.
sa lalake.
pharma, sci, nursing, pt share the same unis (i think)
engg & cafa- plain polo with a badge?
educ- barong din ba?

dali lang yan . .

what if ust tries to adopt the "no uniform" scheme and try it for, say, a year. Let's see if it is better or if there are problems that will arise?
any CSC officer around?
personally though, i find it easier to climb the fourth floor of the main building w/ jeans, a shirt, and a pair of comfy shoes. especially though that students are not always allowed to use the elevator, plus, the MAIn building is not airconditioned:(
it has always been USt's image to wear uniforms... but hey.. its the 21st century.. i think its time to try something new.. something more practical (in terms of comfort) ... if some wud find civilian attire costly.. well.. hu says u cant wear it again? u dont hav to hav cabinets of new clothes each month. :)

what is/are the deifference/s between UST HS from pay high and educ?
pano mo sila madidistinguish? kasi dati i was walkin on the sidewalk, dun sa may paliko from Santo Tomas Hospital goin to Eng. bldg. i was wearin shades then... biglang may nag-bzzzzz... (sound ng bee...) na UST HS girl with her clsm8s. obviously ako yung inaasar nun. :)

ust educ is on the educ building & being taught by the educ people...meron silang distinctive blue lining somewhere... scholars yata sila or something..
ust pay high has brown pants/ skirts & from the word itself..pay high :P heheheheh
imo (in my observations & mah friends as well), karamihan sa mga hs students doon eh puro porma ang inaatupag... hohummmm... observation lang po yan ha walang personalan!

kLaZoManiaC:
To answer your question about the differences between the UST High School (no longer called Pay High..nakasanayan lang kasi dati) and UST Education High School:
1. USTHS has higher tuition fees (actually, a lot higher) than the USTEHS. Ang reason behind dun is that, USTEHS are for those above-average students who couldn't afford costly tuition fees. They are thoroughly screened and yung ITR ng mga parents nila tinitignan at dapat hindi lalagpas ng certain amount. I'm not sure kung P100,000 or less yung required. In short, mala-scholars sila.
In short, mga student teachers sila. Siyempre hindi na sila babayaran. Sa USTHS, lahat ng teachers full time at ni-rerequire na ngayon na may masteral degree yata or kahit units man lang.
3. USTHS has a bigger population. Each year levels (from I-IV yr) ay 9-10 sections with about 50 students each class. Samantalang sa Educ High, 2 sections lang sila (Pilot and Regular) for every year levels.
6. Mas bongga ang mga activities ng USTHS than USTEHS (no offense sa mga taga-Educ ha?) Isang example is yung JS Prom, during my time kasi sa Shangri-la Makati kami..eh sila I heard sa Educ Building yata.

I've used to and I just love and like the way our uniforms express/show/flaunt our being Thomasians. Kung baga kapag tinanggal mo ang uniforms natin para mo na ring tinanggal ang blue cross called the Domican Cross on top of the Main Building. Besides, magastos! hey, hey. what i'm only suggestng is for us to have a ONE NO UNIFORM DAY for each week.
di ko rin naman gustong totally tanggalin yung uniforms natin coz i know that many Thomasians intended to enroll in UST because they don't want to bother themselves thinking about what to wear for each day they have to go to school.
magada na magkaroon tyo nang isang WASH DAY not really for us to literally have our uniforms washed but to avoid feeling tired of wearing the same set of clothing for each day of, say.... 4-5 years of our stay in UST.

Kidding aside...
tulad nga ng sinabi ko sa first post ko in this thread...security and ease of entry on the part of the students are the issues here.
Security: kasi nga since UST ay open sa public, it would really be difficult for the security guards to monitor/safeguard our security. Meron tayong threads na "Mga USTedyante prone sa hold-up" right? Kahit na once a week lang siya, we'll never know when an "evil-minded person" attacks.
Mai :)

i don't think just because we'll not be in uniform for just one day a week our security will have to be at risk too. why can the security guards in Ateneo and UP control the entry of the students of these schools when all of them come to school in civilian clothes everyday? with your statement, are you saying that we Thomasians cannot rely on UST's security force for our safety once we are granted this ONE DAY 'WASH DAY' because our weak security may not be able to control students' entry and that intruders may have great chances of getting inside our campus? therefore, what is it with the security force of the above mentioned universities that UST's security force doesn't have to monitor students' entry when they are in civilian clothes? for what reason were our IDs made in the first place? isn't it for the guards to easily identify students from our school?
if you're worrying about the outsiders that may be able to get inside, i think you need not to. isn't it that our campus really is open to the public? they may be able to enter the campus, but it will be hard for them to enter our buildings once they cannot present an ID to the guard. (that is, if the security in our buildings is tight).
just trying to make a point!
PEACE sis mai!

i don't think just because we'll not be in uniform for just one day a week our security will have to be at risk too. why can the security guards in Ateneo and UP control the entry of the students of these schools when all of them come to school in civilian clothes everyday? with your statement, are you saying that we Thomasians cannot rely on UST's security force for our safety once we are granted this ONE DAY 'WASH DAY' because our weak security may not be able to control students' entry and that intruders may have great chances of getting inside our campus? therefore, what is it with the security force of the above mentioned universities that UST's security force doesn't have to monitor students' entry when they are in civilian clothes? for what reason were our IDs made in the first place? isn't it for the guards to easily identify students from our school?
if you're worrying about the outsiders that may be able to get inside, i think you need not to. isn't it that our campus really is open to the public? they may be able to enter the campus, but it will be hard for them to enter our buildings once they cannot present an ID to the guard. (that is, if the security in our buildings is tight).
just trying to make a point!
PEACE sis mai!
;)
Well, let's just say that I'm a bit frantic about the security and masasabi kong hindi sila ganun ka-reliable. Kahit naman saang skul eh..UP? sus! mas maraming karahasan na nangyayari dun di ba? So masasabi ba nating ok ang security force nila? Dun sa thread na "Mga USTedyante prone sa hold-up" nagrereklamo yung iba dun about sa security guards at totoo namang palpak sila at times. Let's face it..kahit saan we are always in danger. Actually, sa PE Annex noon laging may nakakapasok at nakakapagnakaw (outsider siya and not a regular PE student)...bakit siya nakakalusot? How much more kung lahat sa UST dressed in civilian clothes?
UST being open to the public..yun na nga eh, yun yung THREAT sa security natin. Kaya nga at least yung uniforms natin yun yung primary na magdi-distinguish between Thomasians and Non-Thomasians. At least, the guards would have to be extra cautious with them. And sa sinabi mong hindi sila makakapasok sa buildings..would that guarantee na walang nakawan or krimen na mangyayari outside our college buildings?
About sa ID's, we don't have an ID system similar to DLSU, Mapua, and Ateneo. Let's try not to compare one over another coz what applies to Juan does not necessarily and absolutely mean it can be applied to Pedro.
peace din!

Ateneo doesn't have the kind of technology the other two schools you mentioned have when it comes to monitoring students' entry with their IDs.
