look at the top MVP contenders of the PBA Alvarado-Menk-Parker? will this trend continue and if it does, does it mean that the breed of pure pinoy players are losing out with their tall, bigger, faster rivals?
even in the MBA, fil-ams are dominating.
Panno ba yan?

fil-ams are great additions to philippine basketball. just look at how they work hard inside the basketball court. they hustle, block shots, stuff the ball and other things filipinos should follow.
the influx of fil-ams to the pba have challenged the homegrown filipinos. an example is benjie paras. we're seeing a different paras now. a stronger and better one. what happened in the all-star game? who won? of course, the veterans bec of their pride.

size is one advantage. level of competition is another. however, we cannot and must not generalize. i'd still go for locals for heart. basta hindi napapasukan ng hangin ang utak at hindi natatapalan ng pera ang mata, homeboys pa rin!

I agree with ann, local boys pa rin! I think the influx of Fil-Ams are the best way to bring out the best of our homegrown stars. Huwag tayong magpatalo sa mga dayuhan!
Somebody should kick that Parker *******'s butt!!!! His talent should be no excuse for his boorish behavior. With this said, I'll take a full-blooded American who makes an effort to learn the culture and language of his adopted country (like Alex Compton and Tim Cone) than a guy with Filipino blood who's itching to get back to his father's land after his contract expires (like Parker).
Yup Paras is showing them why he's one of the top centers in the country. But did you know he's half-Caucasian? His full name is Venancio Johnson Paras, and if I remember right, his mother is Australian.

jacob, thanks for ur info about benjie. among the teams left in the semis: i think the battles are between teams who have good fil-ams vs. pinoy based teams . who will win kaya?

Tim Cone is not a foreigner. He's Filipino. He grew up here and was Fred Uytengsu's schoolmate at I.S. Makati.
Nevertheles, I think Fil-ams have an advantage of rubbing elbows with the worlds dream team in USA. This doesn't mean however that Homegrown players don't stand a chance. The influx of Fil-Americans will serve as a challenge to our homeboys just as it improved Benj Paras...as long as they don't let that defensive mentality run in their coconut shells again.

Their edge is the discipline that they aquired training in the States. And, as Jack pointed out, their size. The level of play there is obviously much higher than what we have here. Our players should learn to be more disciplined. Yun lang talaga.

Before mas magaling ang pure pinoys, up to the eras of Paras and Patrimonio pero unfortunately wala ng pumalit sa kanila.

^huh? so a fil-am player like donald dulay or chris pacana is better than a homegrown player like arwind santos or mac cardona?
think about it!!!
so ang sagot dyan ay depende kung sinong fil-am...some fil-ams are good but some are not...

Fil-Ams are more athletic and more quicker for their height. Pero ang problema eh TOTOO ba clang il-Am o baka naman FIL-SHAM.

Players who grew up playing in d states are better since they play against higher competition/better, bigger players. it depends on the player obviously. if don dulay grew up playing here, he probably would never set foot in d pba. if willie miller grew up playin ball in d US, he probably would've played in d nba at some point.
It's not a secret there are players w no filipino blood playing in d pba right now.
Mick pennisi(australian) and pena(african american) are 2 certified foreigners. i'm not convinced asi's mom is filipina. i also doubt crisano and reavis have fil lineage as well.
