tres diamantes, DazednHK,
Am a former HK denizen, 20 years but had a 1 year stint in Tokyo, suburb of Kanagawa Ken while working with the American Firm of DMJM, our client is the US Air Force base there. I am an architect but I was with hundreds of engineers of all nationalities.

Tokyo is a nice place to see, but I will say not to live in because the standard of living is very high. The people are very nice though and it is the only place where I can leave my shopping bag anywhere and I can go back to it without losing anything. Swell place.

Engineers... they are all over the place in Kanagawa Ken. Japan, I have travelled most of it from Osaka all the way to Tokyo just by using the railways. How I manage? Easy use the maps. Food? I love it! Language....well I kinda lost it already, but when I was there, I am a fluent Nihonggo speaker. - Eric San

Eric san,

thanks for visiting us here...you're right there pal...japanese people are just darn honest returning your lost wallet 100 miles away from your place...it's really cool livin' here...but YOU bet...your \en inside your pocket easily does exhaust...

when you go to a SUPA (that's what they call the supermarket here)...and you go for your groceries...10 kilos of RICE...P1,600...300 grams of pork...P150....3 pcs. of tomato...P120...1 tali of horenzo (spinach)...P80...and if you like eating sushi and sashimi...don't do it everyday...masisira ang budget mo diyan mga tol...:noteeth:

but you can buy "kaya ng bulsa" electronic products here....you'll be tolerated with your "MADE IN JAPAN" mentality...andito ka na rin di ba?...you may have one SONY MD LP walkman here for only P8000...a home theater speaker system for P10000....you may add to that system a DVD player for P12000...PLAYSTATION 2 for P15000...and teka mukhang napapamahal na yata ako ah...saka na lang yan, i'll just buy na lang that suspension mountain bike for P8000 at DAIKUMA...ika nga ni utoy "kuya, di local to...JAPAN"...

PEACE!!!

ditto on the prices, but then again, living in HK isn't that cheap... i think it's still 2nd most expensive city in Asia, next to Tokyo.

eric: might follow in your footsteps :) i don't really want to stay there too long, but i want to live there, to learn the language. did u take a formal course, or did u just learn from the people around u? all that in a year?

tres: what exactly are you training for? with regards to the monbusho scholarships, i think that's a dead end, cus it's mostly for undergrad japanese studies majors, or those who want to take a master's or PhD. i'm neither, just want to go for language, and language schools are deadly expensive (around 300K yen/sem), something i can't afford on my own just yet... only been there once, 24 hours (actually mga 22 hours and 30 minutes lang :) ), but i stayed in my girlfriend's house, and her family was great, so i loved the experience. partly the reason i want to experience living there. btw, how long did it take you to be able to converse with people? i'm still in the 'tanaka-san, hajimemashite. nanika tabemasuka?' stage...

with regards to electronics, i don't think there's a large price diff bet. stuff here and the things there. the only thing is, with the rate of obsolescence there, prices drop more quickly, and some cool things never make it to other parts of the world. i'd have to say that generic consumer electronics i.e. dvd players and the like, could be cheaper here tho. plus, no way in the world japan will have my beloved chinese-made pirate dvds :D sugoi desu yo! :D

ja-matane!

...i'm involved in a chemical plant contruction and engineering company here in yokohama...i'm now currently being trained for an engineering software to be used in our upcoming project in venezuela...

as for the nihongo...i think, the study of it really needs special care...it's quite important to know that learning nihongo, like any other language, one must really be interested, patient, and persevering...you need to go to a language school for you to imbibe the BASICS first...then you must possess the 3 qualities i mentioned...it's obvious that you have explored on the language already...you're on to the "MASU" form of the language...what's important now is for you to exercise your nihongo with others...that's the best way pal...i knew other guys who really did well in a language course but never succeeded to speak well with the japs...my company provides a three month "benkyou" for new employees but not really very helpful in actual conversation...i worked hard with my japanese to the extent that i was holding a dictionary whenever i heard new words while watching TV, sa train, sa office...i even tried answering phone calls kahit barok ang japanese ko...things like that...ngayon, i can speak slang nihongo used in the street...but still, not fluent though...chotto dake...

ja ne...

ohayo godaimazu trez and dazed,
thanks! Nihonggo is easy to learn if you just follow three basic reqmts.:
1. Don't talk to your fellow pinoys or foreigners, only to local japs. You'll pick up the linggo quite fast.
2. Don't use pinoy grammar to translate nihonggo, it will be a disaster, they have a very unique grammar construction.
3. Keep a small Jap to English translation booklet in case you run out of Nihonggo and you are with a beautiful Tokyo girl.....!

Tokyo, Akihabara! the place to be in every Sunday....well that's what I used to do when I have time. All great stuff! Electronics, musical equipment, video and all the latest gears. You name it, they have it! I miss these places. Got 50% of my music and photo hobby stuff in Akihabara only to find out it is actually cheaper to buy in HK though!

I have been in japan several times already and it is a nice place, quiet, clean friendly people, (although with a lot of repressed angst and such)

I will be going back to the Philippines though next week after I finish this thing I am working on. will be back here though after a few months.

Hello Tres!
Anyway concerning doon sa question mo about the Police Clearance, it depends kung para saan. Usually it's better to go to the main Police Office sa ward mo. Pero it's best to bring someone along just in case. Kung medyo simpleng clearance lang ang hihingiin mo, siguro you can inquire sa mga Police Box na malapit usually sa mga eki.
Sige!. Good luck na lang sa iyo.

DazedinHK, well if you're looking for Japanese Schools, there are some scattered across sa Manila. The best one in my opinion is PIJLC, I can't remember the exact meaning of the acronym though. It's located somewhere in Makati. I'll try to get the contact address and post it here in this thread. I know most of the sensei's there personally and you won't be disappointed if you do decide to enroll there. There are some schools like Trinity College and Ateneo in Quezon City, De La Salle and UST in Manila the offer Japanese Language lessons. The Japanese Embassy also has some posts in their bulletin boards about freelance teachers, so you might want to check that our as well. Well in terms of the fee, expect to pay around 4,000 to 8,000 pesos per training period (around a month or so, usually three times a week, 2 hours per session). I'm not quite sure if the figures I gave are still accurate, I'll try to check it out again then I'll inform you once I get it.

anyway, i went to the yokohama bayside marina yesterday.
parang isang complex ng mga iba't-ibang stores. parang mini-mall(?). you can get there by getting off at the shin-sugita station, then transferring to the sea side line. Kapag nasa seaside line ka na, you get off at Torihama station (2nd station ata from shin sugita) .

ang mga stores: east boy, timberland, levis/dockers, reebok, nike, new balance, coach, G-Shock, guess(? not sure), la coste, michael klein, etc. the prices there are cheaper nga kesa when you buy elsewhere.

Scubatoku - Why don't u try applying for the Monbusho Scholarships? I think you can still apply. If you pass, you can study in Japan for about a year or so, which is a good start. Actually you can even finish you studies there. You can apply for a transfer in Tokyo University or any other universities (public or private) once your already in the scholarship program.
Concerning Japanese students here, there's a lot. UP has the highest concentration of Japanese students. I think there's more than 20 of them. DLSU has about 10, Ateneo 10, Trinity College also has some students. Some Japanese schools like PIJLC have some Japanese students there who work part-time as Japanese language instructors. The NGO I'm volunteering for has Japanese student volunteers. Most of the students are scattered across Manila. So if you study in one of the schools I mentioned, just go to their International Studies department, since most of the time they stay there. Cheers :)

If you are in JAPAN:

How is your life in JAPAN?

I like living in JAPAN.

not:
What is your impression when someone tells you I work/live in JAPAN?

I have been chatting on the internet for quite a while... and whenever I say I am in JAPAN they'll say "ay JAPAYUKI!"----I hate that impression.

I have been here since Feb this year. All is doing well. The language is a barrier though. And the prices are sky-high.

The Japanese I have encountered were nice to me although all the Gaijins I have spoken to told me that the Nihonjins are two-faced. I have het to find that out for myself.

Well, dont listen to those gaijins....
I have been here for years now, and I have met good japaese friends. Just dont be sensitive kasi sometimes they can get really cold...

The best way for you to like JAPAN.. is to find friends. both Japanese and foreigners. I have both, and some of them are better than my filipino friends back home.

pinoy2001
Oct 15, 2001, 09:16 PM
Like I said, I have yet to discover the "two-faced-ness" of the Nihonjins. They have all been good to me so far.

I guess it's not fair to judge the Japanese character based on our own set of values. What may seem rude to us may be normal to them.

Change topic. Doesn't it bother you how the Japanese speak very bad English? To think, they have been learning the language since junior high school.

It's sad to say that that is true. The problem is that they dont actually use it, so everything they learned from school is easily forgotten. The funny think is that... most of them want to learn English, yet no efforts are being made.

I used to believe na most Filipinos know English. But that'S not the case really. I have a foreigner friend back home, and he told me that "IT'S NOT TRUE". He's been in the Philippines for more than 15 years, and he always have diffuculty explaining himself to others. (Like when he's ordering something at the restaurant... buying something at malls etc.) The last time I was there, I went out with him, there I realized that even Filipinos have poor English comprehension. (at least better than the Japanese.)

Kahit nga akom, nahihirapan m,ag english eh.

I?fve been here for barely 6 1/2 mos. I can remember my 1st day here; not knowing anything about the language be it hiragana, katakana, and of course kanji. All I knew was to greet konnichiwa, and that?fs all!
But in this short term also that I first felt like I?fm a very great English communicator, far better than my foreign and Japanese counterparts (since I have no western or Australian classmate). Hehehe! I also learned to appreciate the efforts of Philippine education to teach the language at such a young age.
I must say that Filipinos can understand English very well. We are enriched with words in school and practiced by western shows in TV and radios. Even most of our newspapers are in English. Though most of the time we commit grammatical errors when we try to use it on our own. But the important thing is we understand it and we can relate our thoughts to others even with mistakes.

Yep, it's only now that I appreciate Philippine education in terms of the language component. But we can't generalize because it varies from region to region.

I agree with Asian22 that some Filipinos back home cannot comprehend English very well. But still, we're way ahead of the Japs. I heard that their English level is the same sa North Korea.

in_control_now, taga-saan ka sa Tokyo? Asian22 malayo ka ba sa capital?

Oct 22, 2001, 07:50 PM
I'm staying here in Sakuragaoka, Setagaya-ku.
He is staying in Fukouka, right? And that is the rival of Tokyo in terms of being the best city in Asia. Asian22, ano nga ba ang itsura ng Fukuoaka? If you have been to Tokyo, which do you prefer between the two cities?

asian22
Oct 22, 2001, 09:48 PM
Sa university ko, maraming foreigners. but I am the only filipino here, Most of them are Chinese. But I really dont mind, coz I have been here for 4 years, so it's easier for me to get friends with Japanese.

Fukuoka is a nice place. I like it here. Quiet and not too busy. You can find a place to relax, etc. :) I will rate Fukuoka 5 out of 5.

I used to live in Tokyo fro 1 year. It was not that bad, but Tokyo makes me tired so easily. Ang daming tao. masyadong busy... Pero in a way I liked it there too, kasi maraing Pinoys dyan. dito nga ako lang ang Filipino student sa campus ko. Saka mas mura tickets to Manila if you are coming from Narita.

How's your life there? Hanggang kailan kayo sa Japan, at saka when do you plan to visit Manila? (that is if you are form Manila)

pinoy2001
Oct 23, 2001, 05:18 PM
Teka, taga-Sakuragaoka din ako! Nearest station ko is Chitose-funabashi! Sa Kokushikan University, Setagaya campus ako nag-aaral. Ikaw, saan?

My Nihongo? Not good. hehe. I am taking 2 hours of lessons every week at the International Center of my uni.

I haven't been to Fokuoka. It sounds nice.

I was in Manila last month and I am planning to visit again Feb or March next year.

asian22
Oct 23, 2001, 05:30 PM
WOW, mukhang pareho pa kayo ng university, or if not since malapit kayo sa isa'st isa, pwede kayong mag meet.

Ako din I was in Manila last month. It was good to be home after being away for quite some time.

WOuld advise you guys to travel all around Japan habang nandito kayo, there are many places to see.

I feel bad nga sometimes that I have travelled Japan more than the Philippines. I have never been out of Luzon.

in_control_now
Oct 23, 2001, 09:53 PM
Actually there are two stations near my place namely Chitose-funabashi and Kyodo stations. But I do use Chitose-funabashi eki more often since it is nearer. Especially now that my bicycle was stolen, about 2 days ago...:( . Anyways, I am fine. I am studying in Nodai Setagaya Campus pala.
Sad to say pero di ako nakabalik sa atin during summer break. I ''thought'' that I'd be able to improve on my Nihongo faster but in reality nothing happened. I should have just went back. Mas magastos ang mag-stay dito. But I was able to roam around. I visited Kyoto and Osaka (Universal Studios). It was fun and it helped a lot in lessening my homesickness. Now some friends are planning and asking me to go to Hokkaido during the Winter break. But I'm not sure yet if I will go.
My father is Ilokano and my mother is Cebuana. Hehehe... At advice ko rin lang po sa inyo asian22: There are many places to see kahit sa atin. Japan is good but Pinas, in its own way, also has places to offer. Mura pa!
I have a question , do you recommend buying a keitai? Cge, yun lang po muna.

pinoy2001
Oct 24, 2001, 06:05 PM

I have been fortunate enough to travel around the world. Typical banyaga sa sariling bansa :(. I would love to visit other parts of our country though like Cebu, Palawan, Davao, etc.

Tungkol sa keitai, I would advice you to get one kung kaya ng budget mo. Ako?@meron coz my dorm phone can't make international calls. Merong student rate yung AU, Y2,100 per month, libre 50 mins at 50% off pa ang bawat tawag.

asian22
Oct 24, 2001, 06:18 PM
Hello!!!!

I really want to travel sa atin, kaya lang I didnt have the chance. maybe on my next vacation there. i want to go to Cebu, Palwan , etc. Saan ba maganda?

About keitai..., I have one :-). kasi I dont have a land line, and it's important for me that my classmates, and my teachers can contact me anytime. I think it's "cool" to have one! Tapos may mga plans pa sila na you can choose from depending on how you intend to use your keitai. Yung cheapest monthly bill yata is 2,500 yen.

And if u decided to finally buy one, Dapat AU para may 50% off. (alam nyo naman siguro yon)

Travel to Hokkaido:
Bat sa Hokkaido??? Kapag winter dapat sa Okinawa! tapos pag summer sa Hokkaido. Anyways, I havent been there. gusto ko rin pumunta. pwedeng sumama? LOL

in_control_now
Oct 24, 2001, 10:10 PM
Oo nga no!!! Kami ni Pinoy2001 tapos i-tour mo kami for FREE. I think that's better. Anong tingin mo Pinoy2001.. Teka, uuwi ba kayo sa atin during Christmas break?
About keitai, it's not that I really can't afford (***** nga). It's just that I'm thinking if I can really use it; with limited people to contact here. There's also a landline in my room though I rarely use it.
About the eki, I'm staying in the University's dormitory. I walk for about 3 mins and I can reach the campus already. That's why I don't really use the eki everyday. I do so only when I go to relatively far places. Which reminds me of my bicycle that I useD more often instead of using the eki. I even useD it when going to Shibuya. But as I've mentioned before, it was stolen. Huhuhu.
Are you studying undergrad, masters, PhD, or even Post Doctorate?

When I looked back I noticed that I missed on one topic which is, places to travel in Philippines. Pakiramdam ko tuloy eh bigla akong naging tour guide. Hehehe. Hindi naman talaga ako gala. But still here are the places that I can recommend:
1) Vigan - my favorite. Serene and I just love riding kalesa while looking around at old Hispanic houses. My ideal place for honeymoon.
2) Cebu - since I'm not from Manila, this is the urban place that I prefer most. Much less traffic and pollution. Near the downtown are magnificent beaches. Just see for yourself.
3) Palawan - it's rather clean though not yet comparable to Japan. Beaches are not crowded and it's just so good.
Other places I want to visit are Bohol, Davao and Boracay. I have also been to States but Philippines pa rin ang number one sa akin.

SO i cant be your tour guide. I plan to go to US, I havent decided yet, kasi medyo magulo don. Pero malamang tumuloy ako.
Was thinking of going back home too, kaya lang winter break is too short, next year na lang ulit ako uuwi. Spring or summer.

OO nga pala, kung wala pa kayong tourist Visa to US, it's better to get one while you're here. Mas madali daw.

ON KEITAI:
Maraming uses ang keitai:: pwedeng alarm clock, pwedeng magsend at mag-receive ng email, may games etc. Pero it's not a necessity siguro, pero BENRI (convenient) if you have one.

Under grad student din ako.

Hi there,
I am doing a survey for a research paper regarding Filipinos living in Japan. I need a directory listing of filipinos in Japan.
Would you have any information on how I can get a listing?

The survey would be extensive, so I need a listing of about 3,000 or more. You can email me at gutzee@yahoo.com

Thank you.

I dunno about that. Do you think I should go though with my plans?

Security blanket baga.

O ano, in_control_now, kelan tayo magkikita? Dormitory Chitose-funabashi ako nakatira, about 5 mins. walk from the eki.

I am not sure though of the companies that have one are willing to share that kind of info.

asian22
Oct 25, 2001, 10:22 PM
PINOY 2001:
Siempre malamig sa Hokkaido kasi Winter. Pero if everything is free. why not. I suppose mag i-skii kayo. I think mas OK yon kesa pumunta ng US. o umuwi sa pinas. AKo kasi maybe next year mag trabaho na ako, so I am taking advantage of the school breaks.

GUTZEE:
Nasa Japan ka ba o nasa Pinas? I f you have valid papers, I think the embassy might give you some list (at least they have the least of the Filipino students here) ...pero mahirap yata yon.
AKo pwede akong tumulong I know some FIlipinos here, kaya lang kaunti lang wala lang 20 hehehe.
I think you can find some FIlipino community group sa internet. Baka sila makatulong.

in_control_now
Oct 26, 2001, 03:50 AM
To Gutzee, my advice for you is to find a member of the Association of Filipino Students in Japan (ASFJ). I think, in their own way, they can help you with your problem. But I don't think the number of members is not sufficient to meet your demand of 3,000 or more samples. If you are in Japan I think it is easy to find one and just ask if they know an officer of the organization to help you. I am a member of it but I'm not yet familiar about it since I am new here, sorry.
Pinoy2001, how about going to the mass together on Sunday. My Filipino sempais usually don't go with me coz either they are busy or they go to other churches. But before eh nag-bibike ako kasama sila. Ngayon siguro eh lalakarin ko (about 20-30 mins) o mag-bubus. The chapel is in Yoga (Internation Christian Seisen School). Maybe you are familiar about it.
Nagdadalawang isip pa rin ako about keitai. Bahala na.

pinoy2001
Oct 26, 2001, 07:45 PM
I checked out the ticket fares to Manila and New York.

I know it'll be a different experience pero iba pa rin magdiwang ng Pasko sa kapwa Pilipino.

I think the Japanese have a different interpretation of Christmas don't you think?

May I know your dorm phone so I can call you some time? My email address is: jldbphl@netscape.net.

Ja ne.

in_control_now

Tama ka don Pinoy2001. Actually nagtaka nga rin ako kung bakit nag-cecelebrate ng Christmas ang mga Japanese when in fact eh di nga sila Christians. They even celebrate their weddings the Christian way just for fashion.
Actually during the 1st 2 or 3 mos. ng stay ko dito eh sa Yotsuya ako nagsisimba. Masaya don. Hehehe. Lalo na pag nakikita mo yung ga Pilipinong vendors sa labas after the mass. They even do it in front of ''No Selling Activity is Allowed Here'' signs. Pilipinong pilipino talaga. Mag-eemail na lang ako sa yo after this.

I still dont know kung dito ako magtatrabaho. Nag-iisip pa ako, saka I need to consult my adviser, malaki kasi ang naitutulong nila.

OO pinoy2001 mas mahal ang ticket to Manila kaysa to Newyork kung sa NW ka bibili. Pero kung mag-e-agent ka like NO-1 or ACROSS, pwede kang makapili ng murang airlines. I heard PAL is cheaper. (actually nung nandyan ako, I used Pakistan Airlines LOL---- 50,000 yen lang yata kahit Christmas.)

Well, nakikisakay lang sila. But the truth is they dont really care about it, they just like the festivity that goes with it. May pasko sila, tapos nagpupunta sila sa Temple saka sa Shrine... My Japanese friend even told me that he doesnt understand it either.
Yung kasal namann sa Chapel I heard na mas mura kapag sa simbahan ginawa yung kasal kaya they do it.

O sige til next time....

asian22, ano ba ang field mo? I might work here after coz my boss is asking me to.

Pupunta ako sa No. 1 travel mamaya to check out their rates.

Well, what can we expect, hindi naman sila Kristiyano eh.

Come to think of it, napansin ko na hindi sila spiritual ba bansa.

in_control_now
Oct 30, 2001, 12:58 AM
Pakistan Airlines!!! Hindi ba kayo natakot. I heard from some Filipino firends na gumamit din noon last natsu yasumi eh natakot sila at di na nila uulitin.

May pera ka nga but how about your family in the future. Wag na lang.

In terms of spritual life of Japanese, sa tingin ko eh related na to sa sinabi ko kanina. They are too busy with their jobs.

asian22
Oct 30, 2001, 04:22 AM
Computer ang field ko. I have no problem with me working here. But I dont intend to stay here for the rest of my life. Siguro kukuha lang ako ng experience dito.

I only used Pakistan Airlines once.... tapos once din yung Egypt airlines, kaya lang nung napnta ko dito sa Osaka na lagi ako naggagaling.( mas mura sa Kansai Airport ang ticket compared sa Fukuoka)... Ngayon medyo natatali akos a mileage program ng Northwest.

By the way, di ba mahal ang ticket ng Philippines airlines pag galing tokyo...(sa Osaka kasi PAL is on of the cheapest) , Sabi kasi nung friend ko from US... they are advised not to use PAL for some reasons I didnt ask.... Anyways I used PAL and it was OK.

It's good to see that there are a lot of PEXers who are in Japan. I worked in Japan since last year and came back just a few months back to finalize my working visa application. I'm still in Manila working for my papers, and doing volunteer work for a Japanese-Filipino NGO based in Taft. In_Control_Now - kamusta... I'll be back there sometime sa first quarter of next year. I've already transferred to a different company, and I'm just waiting for the papers to be processed. The first company I worked for was small, and this was the reason why my original application for a long-term visa was delayed. It's a good thing I had a chance to find a replacement company kaagad, and now my application is working smoothly. Nagkaron rin ako ng konting problems concerning sa Lia-Com degree, since the Japanese Immigration had difficulty na sa pinas raw ay meron nag-ooffer ng double degree courses. It's a good thing DLSU was supportive about this, kaya nakakuha ako kaagad ng necessary papers. Anyway, I hope to see you guys there.. either sa april or may.... take care.. :)

Same thing happened to most of my ryugakusei friends.
Another bad news: the supposed kohai next year of my Thai friends died two days ago. She was killed by a man under the influence of drugs while riding the train in Bangkok. My friend was so shocked because a week ago she was just chatting with her in the net. This actually made the Thais' situation worse since one of their sempais already went home during the summer vacation of too much loneliness. :~(.

Asian22: Well, hindi naman as long as you know where to look. The ones I listed on my thread sa working filipino were the ones I accessed when I first went to Tokyo April last year. I had like 30+ interviews lined up, that's why I got a job within a week that I arrived there. As early as February of last year, I was already sending it out to all the companies I was interested in. My first work there was as an english teacher, which was the easiest job to get. You can normally just go to a school and tell them that you are interested, and if you pass the interview, you're hired. Of course, medyo ayaw nila kung hindi ka caucasian, but there are some schools that gives out exceptions. The pay is pretty nice also. The lowest you can get is about Y2,500 yen an hour. I worked sa school for about 3 months, then I transferred to a bank wherein I did I.T. work, which was my main love. Although I didn't graduate with an I.T. degree, my love for the field got the job for me. If it wasn't for that darn double degree shwammy that the Japanese Immigration was pestering me on, I wouldnt have returned to Manila anymore, but alas I had to go back May of this year. Now I transferred companies, but in an I.T. related field still.. and hopefully my working visa application would be done by the end of this year, and I can be back in Tokyo in no time... Pero if you're gunning to get a working visa while you are staying there, and you entered as a tourist, then critical that on the first month of your stay, makakuha ka na, so by the time your 90 day stay ends, may working visa ka na. But if you have a student visa, sobrang dali lang ang pag-change ng status. Just get a company to sponsor you, and in 1 1/2 month's time, kuha mo visa mo. Kung double-degree ka, don't say na lang on your application. Stick with one degree.. to avoid complications. Nakakatawa nga, I complained my case with the Philippine Embassy in Tokyo, and they got me this lawyer na kakausap sa Ministry of Education and the Immigration office doon, pero wala ring nangyari. Sobrang kitid ng utak ng mga Japanese, specially when it comes to education thingy. They just can't accept that we can be as educated as them....

InControl ID 93 ako.. Lia-Com... ISJ-BMG

Ebisu:
Iba kasi ang system nila dito. As far as I know kaunti lang ang may mag double degree dito, dahil mas gusto nila na nasa isang field ka lang. Which I think makes sense, instead of getting another degree... mas prefer nila na i-continue mo yung researc and project mo sa field mo.

in_control_now
Sorry to hear na nawalan ka na naman ng bike. saka sorry to hear about what happened sa kohai mo ng thai.
Pero mas sad yung nangyari last last year... I heard na on kohai (I forgot kung taga saan) committed suicide....it was a shock to all of us. SO I think mas ok na umuwi na lang yung isang Thai dyan.

hi people! how are you doin here in japan? i went here last september for some project assignments.

ebisu24, i have a question and i hope you can enlighten me on this. my company back in the philippines sent me for a series of interviews with some japanese companies here. i got my business visa (90 days) through our japan office here and since the interviews are urgent, they told me they'll just apply for my working visa here which will require about a month if ever i pass the interview. i did pass the interview. 2 months have already passed since but my working visa haven't come out yet. i am getting a little worried coz my business visa is due to expire end of november. can business visa be extended in case such as this?

by the way, i'm also working in the IT field. i have been here before and it's nice to be back. i don't know how long i'll be staying here. probably as long as we can get some projects from japanese companies.
:)

have a nice day.

Kamusta pala sa lahat lalo na kina the brain at freshnel sa ating malamig na panahon at lalong pang lumalamig. Marami sa atin eh first timers dito sa Japan. Just ask our sempais here for advices or other things you would like to discuss. Naandiyan sina asian22 at ebisu24.

Saan ka nag-stastay dito sa Japan freshnel? Are you taking Japanese language classes?

Hehehe.

I just want to ask this question. Were your expectations before coming here met upon arriving to Japan; for example the cleanliness, safety, progressiveness, or hospitality of people and the likes?

asian22

Why dpnt u ask ur superior, to make sure na nasa proccessing na yung visa mo... Kasi bihira naman yung na de-deny.

EXPECTATIONS:
Nung pumunat ako dito the first time, I was expecting everything to be in order..... In some point I think that's true, mas disciplined sila.
Tungkol naman sa safety, well, medyo nagkakaroon na ng changes sa society nila... dumadami na yung crimes... but still I feel safer here kesa sa Pinas.

Grabe lamigggg. Well, Japan is the number one country I admire so much. Sobrang ganda ng lugar nila dito. The people specially the ladies are very fashionable. The companies take very good care of the welfare of their emloyees. Very expensive lang talaga. Like if we have P 56.00 for a Chicken Sandwhich, theirs is 560 Yen which is around P 280.00.

They seemed to have a lot of reclaimed area which reminded of a movie "SAWAKAS" where Japan Islands were depicted sinking little by little due to earthquakes. That might just happen in the future.

But I'm starting to like it though. My friend and gaijin sempai even warned me that this feeling will change once I experience snow. Then will I feel like going back to my country and enjoy sun bathing. Hehehe. :bandit:!

With the latest developments and what's happening now, I am seeing a lot of similarities of Japan to Philippines. Magulong pulitika, bumabagsak na ekonomiya (unemployment,CPI and GDP), lumalalang sitwasyon ng kapayapaan at kaayusan (like what happened to my 2 bicycles) atbp.

Which I really idolize dito sa Japan among others.

Hehehe.

Hi. Have recently stumbled across this thread. I'm married to a Japanese (and we all know the typecasting that goes with this situation) and we often go back to Japan for vacations. After having lived for a few years in East Asia, my husband was luckily relocated to Phils. Have been here for only three months in Manila and miss my friends from the East.

Hope you don't find that pathetic. Anyway, we often go back to Japan (specifically Kobe) for vacations. Wonder if any of you guys could recommend a place where I could meet Filipinos in Kobe or Osaka? I'm just preparing for the eventuality that my husband gets repatriated back to Japan and the thought of starting over once more (after having done this several times in different places) is a bit frustrating.

I do wish good luck to all of you here. Gambatte ne!

Thanks for your reply. Actually, though I loved living in Japan, I enjoyed living more in East Asia (India, Sri Lanka, Maldives, etc) and the friends here are whom I mostly miss. Was preparing for our eventual relocation so wanted to hook up in advance with people from perhaps Kobe and/or Osaka.

I really appreciate your taking time out to respond to my posts. We went back to Japan two weeks ago and though everything in Philippines is more convenient when compared to East Asia, still couldn't help but feel more relaxed and safe in Japan.

We'll be going back to Osaka mid-December and not exactly looking forward to winter. Hope you are enjoying your stay in Tokyo and good luck!

Wow at ako nanaman ang page starter!:bounce2:. Hehehe!

bariculyo: kamusta ka rin tol. babalik ka pala dito. sa tokyo ba? cge kung nagkataon sama tayong punta ng roponggi. kaya yon ng bike lang galing sa tinitirhan ko. sana by that time eh marunong na akong mag-Nihongo para may maiuwi akong . . .

agneswa: don't mention it and i'm glad to meet you even just here in PEX. you didn't tell us that you came here to japan. so you have been staying in south asia. i've heard from the japanese girl i'm teaching english who went scuba diving there (india and maldives) a month ago that it's such a nice place. but don't you feel scared since it's nere afghanistan and pakistan? anyway just take care and God bless on whatever you do and wherever you go.

asian22: kung gusto mo eh punta ka dito sa gagawing show ng ''MTB:magandang tanghali bayan''. balak namin pumunta ng sempai ko. hehehe. cguradong maraming pinoy doon. may scholarship ako pero sobrang gipit. ang mahal kasi ng bilihin dito sa japan, lalo na sa tokyo. pagkatapos ko nga pala ng undergraduate dito (bali lampas pa ng 3 taon naman yon, hehehe) eh priority ko talaga ang maghanap ng scholarship sa amerika to continue studying. pero mukhang malabo na. bahala na. kahit na may disadvantages ang pagpunta ko dito, alam kong marami pa ring magandang opportunities ang nabuksan dahil dito. tsaka na lang ***** ako mag-dedecide. ika nga ''i'll cross the bridge when i get there'' hehehe! :devious:.

pinoy2001: tulad nga ng sabi ko, matanda man eh maganda pa rin. nakita mo yung legs! ang kinis!!! hehehe. hoy biro lang to at baka sineseryoso mo na. :nye:! sabi na nga't i-checheck ng mama ko kung nagsimba ako dahil 1st sunday of advent. di tuloy ako maka-reply sa email dahil tinatonong niya kung may lighting of advent wreath dito. masaya pa rin naman yung family day kaya salamat .magingat ka na lang sa new york. sana lang ay hindi wag mag-crush ang eroplanong sasakyan mo. teka may nasabi ba akong mali, :hmm:! hehehe. biro *** ulit. God bless na rin, next week diba?!

Thanks for your acknowledgment. Yes, I truly enjoy Maldives and the culture around these places are so different from ours that I'm still in the stage of finding them interesting. People say this stage eventually winds down to ambivalence. I've met people in India who are still stuck in the "awestruck" stage and they've been in the place for more than five years. Only hope the fever doesn't bite me.

Maldives is such a perfect place to stay, especially if you have the money. The diving is amazing and the people (the Maldivians, not the resort people who are paid to accomodate you) are friendly. I try to visit the islands as much as the budget permits me.

We'll be in Kobe for the New Year. Will be eating all those wonderful food.

Still wishing everybody good luck in all their endeavours in Japan. Gambatte!

me, i caught up with my reading.. tinapos ko Lord of the Rings! and i get to sleep as much as i can. Im awake, though, till the wee hours of the morning kasi don sila nagpapalabas ng mga super gandang english films like Arabian Nights, When harry Met Sally, Shakespear in Love etc.

but still.. nothing beats new year sa pinas diba?

hisashiburi naaa...Wow at long time din akong di nakabisita, daming ginawa dito during vacation. Puro lakwatsa at di nanaman nakapag-aral. Finals na pa man din. Oks lang masaya naman kahit papaano. Cramming na naman as usual. I just hope I can amend my schedule now for the time lost. Finals week is drawing nearer and I don't want to go home with a failing mark.

LordMyx, Sturm, Bijin: musta kayo. It's good that you somehow stumbled on this thread!!! I just hope it didn't hurt. Hehehe!! Tokoro de, yoroshiku ne!

pasko sa opisina: I spent my Christmas eve in the church sa Ueno. At least I can say that I was not alone on that special day and I celebrated it with MY fellow Pinoys. Tsktsk. Pasko sa opisina!

first timers?!?: ***-*** nga bang 1st time na mag-pasko at mag- new year dito sa Japan?

Hehehe. Ngayung gabi pala eh ipapalabas ulit yung The Story Behind Cats and Dogs.

Are you studying or working here? Gaano ka na katagal dito? About your wish, all we can do is pray and hope things will go fine for everyone for 2002.

asian22: Naks at dumaan pa siya sa DC. It's good that you enjoyed and had a safe trip.

Iba talaga pag may Pilipino kang kasama.

pinoy2001: Long time ka ring nawala ah! Magparamdam ka naman. Napasarap ka na ata sa NY. Nahihirapan ka sigurong bumili ng pasalubong namin. Hehehe!

oita city is in kyushu island (i think, LOL. Im not sure). Basta yung south island. Malapit sya sa fukuoka. So it's warmer here. Last jan 2, i experienced my first snow!! Yipee! After that, ala nang downfall na sumunod.

Parang sinasabi ng kama, "Balik ka sakin, I'm warm!" It's too much of a temptation to resist. Thank God 9 a.m. ang work dito!
