View Full Version : Do you shop online?

There are some stuff I'd like to buy online (especially books and accessories hard to find here!), but I'm a bit apprehensive it. I also don't really know anyone who has tried it (just a friend of a friend of a friend--and that doesn't really count). What do you think? Have you tried it already? :hmm:
I've bought a few books from Barnes & Noble.com (http://www.barnesandnoble.com) & I was pretty satisfied with their service, but I only shop online if I'm REALLY sure I won't get the items from any local bookstore or if it'll take my relatives ages to send them via balikbayan box.
Since I'm on a budget & I'm not in such a big hurry to get my books, I usually opt to have them sent via International Surface Mail. It's the most inexpensive way to have them delivered compared to International Express & Air Mail.
With International Surface Mail, I usually get my order in about five to eight weeks which is a-ok considering how expensive it'll be if I have them air mailed.
Btw, when I make purchases through Barnes & Noble.com (http://www.barnesandnoble.com), I don't pay online. I choose the Pay by Telephone option, wait for a confirmation e-mail that my order has been received, then I call up their toll-free number [Customer Service Team: 201-272-3651] to verify my purchase & give them my credit card info.
...hope this helps, chersy.

Buying at reputable sites like Amazon is typically safe, but beware the hidden costs of shipping and customs duties! Books worth more than US$50 are taxed 7% of the declared value (5% starting next year), clothes anywhere from 15% to 25%.
Funny thing is the customs agents at the post office aren't always aware of the correct duties to impose. I used to buy a lot of books (worth $100+ a month) from MIT Press and Amazon, and never got charged. Then last month I was infomed that I had to pay duties. Apparently the customs agents at QC Post office were only informed of the new tariffs Q2 of this year.

hmm i buy most of my DVD's online and some books. as for clothes, when i was in college, i used to shop for sweaters from jcrew.com or bananarepublic.com a lot because sometimes they have better sales. Now, i prefer shopping myself since i hate using my credit card. :)

I love shopping online. I buy clothes, books, CD's make-up, pet supplies, etc.
Here are some of my favorite online shops:
Anthropologie.com (http://www.anthropologie.com/)
A & F.com (http://www.abercrombie.com/)
Amazon.com (http://www.amazon.com)
Petsmart.com (http://www.petsmart.com)
Tower Records.com (http://www.towerrecords.com/default.asp?)
So far, I have not encounter any problems with shipping, item condition or credit card use with online shopping.
No hassle looking for a parking space too. :drive: :D

LOL...I hope you don't need those right the hell now :D
I love shopping online. In fact, I bought my car online (of course, I went to check it out/test drive it before actually signing on the dotted line). I also frequent eBay, Amazon, mySimon, etc. The great thing about buying high-end items online is that there's no tax. Plus, online merchants usually offer super-high discounts since they don't have any expensive overhead.

Yes, I have. But not from Manila, because I don't quite trust the local postal system. But if you must, I'd suggest paying extra and having it delivered via Registered Mail, or even courier. Mas mahal nga, pero kesa naman mawala, diba?...

Whenever we go on vacations, I buy interstate tix at expedia.com all the time when I was in the US. I also bought my tix to Manila there. It's convenient 'cause you get to compare plane fares and look for the best deal. You can also pick where you want your stopovers to be. The service was so fast, they mailed the tix a couple of days later for international tix, and send you an e-ticked almost instantly for interstate trips.

...i shop thru e-2-door.com (http://www.e-2-door.com) ...
...ang hirap kasi ng online shopping sa Pinas, tutubusin mo pa sa customs at magbabayad ka pa dun. Dito sa e-2-door, ok, no hassle, pwede pa local credit card, home delivery pa!...

it's pretty safe buying online at Amazon.com. kaya lang its really expensive. my last order, i bought an item worth $9.95... shipping & handling charges for international surface mail cost $11.98. i ended up paying more than twice the amount of my item. and it takes forever to ship it here.
i only order if i can't find it in powerbooks or page one.
yep.. i got a lot of stuff na in jcrew.com. you have to be careful lang though that you have to know your size. i go to ebay.com rin..i bid a lot pero you have to be careful baka ma rip off ka.
