The College of St. Benilde Lady Blazers romped off to a puslating 76-73 victory over the Lyceum Pirates last night to retain the Women's National Collegiate Athletic Association collegiate crown for the second straight year.
Twas Felisyl Lizondra's free throws which decided it all for the Lady Blazers with 2.7 seconds left in the game.
The game was not supposed to go into overtime. The count was tied at 65-all when Claudia Perrine was going for a drive past Lady Pirate Divina Reyes.
Poor Claudia was called her fifth foul and was nearly in tears when Divina Reyes was awarded two charity throws with four seconds left.
She missed her charities and the game went into overtime. The Lady Blazers anger and grief turned into joy as they played the extension period with so much fire in their hearts.
Lizondra led the Blazers with 24 points while Ice Abesamis backed her up with 19.
BTW, Gaby Marco, Eilene Aranjuez and Angelica Barascoso had 12 points each as they powered Miriam College to the high school title past Assumption, 59-28.
Eileen Urietta made 24 points for La Salle Zobel, which downed St. Scholastica, 61-37, in the grade school division.
