Hey oble..here's a very interesting trivia....

UST- SDT:

Thrice (3) champion..Twice (2) 1st runner-up and Once (1) 2nd runner-up

Galing talaga ng UST-SDT..laging nasa top 3 (to think na 7 years na pala ang Cheering Competition) ...on the fourth year, UST CHOSE not to join the competition. They were given an option whether they'd like to join or not.

The score of UP Pep was just a nanometer away from FEU (in case you dont know, they're the previous champion b4 UP.) last 1999 during their first ever - easy winning.

why easy winning? - because UP was the host then...and the rumors were out, saying that the chair of the judges (which was actually from UP) then suggested na ipanalo naman ang UP.

FEU was good, but honestly, UP deserved the title. I'm not saying
this out of bias... and to be frank, kinabahan ako non kasi ang pangit yung pagkapanalo ng UP.... i expected that people would say they won because host sila.

Still.............. last year, UP was really really good. They deserved the title. Those rumors were probably from people who were just sour graping about UP's victory.

UP was a consistent second placer sa cheering competitions when UST dominated it years back. Back then, it was not the UP Pep Squad who were competing in the Cheering Competition. It was the UP Filipiniana Dance Group. I saw the runner up trophies myself. 3 years in a row nga yata na runner up ang UP-- 95-97.

In 1998, UP placed 2nd runner up. FEU won the championship that year followed by La Salle. This was the time na hindi sumali ang UST-SDT. This time, UP Pep na ang nagrepresent sa UP. Kaya lang all girls ang sumayaw. 2 or 3 lalaki lang ang sumali as lifters.

1999, UP won the game. It would be very unfair to say that UP manipulated the scores since that time, the judges were from the Cheerleading Association of the Philippines, unlike these past 2 years na representative from each school. That year's batch has been the most credible set of judges so far in the UAAP cheering competition for me.

True the scores at that time were very close but still UP won. UST SDT placed second with a good routine, i should say, and FEU winning third.

Since then, it was UP winning the compets. Siguro naman wala na tayong masabi dun sa last 2 victories ng UP Pep. They really deserve the crown.

UP Pep and UST-SDT have very much in common. 3 championship trophies, a number of runner-ups, and 1 third place win.

HAIL the mighty UP PEP SQUAD!!!

No competition in '97. I remember waiting for the '97 ompetition to come but didn't happen due to lack of sponsors. but the placing was like this:

UST 94-96, Champ., '98 Didn't compete. '99-'00 2nd and '01 3rd
UP, didn't know their place in 94. 3rd in '95, 2nd in '96 and '98, 1st '99-01.
FEU 1st '98, 3rd '99 - '00.
DLSU 2nd '94-'95, 3rd '96 and '98

YUPS :) highshool studs tinalo ang CSB and Adamson. I was there... RX is not a big competition, yearly mga 2-3 schools lang ang sumasali, and most venues are small... whenever UAAP cheering squads are being talked about here, CSB ppl laging nakikisali na they are the best winning 3 RX champs... hello e ang liit liit lang pala non...

I saw members there of the Yellow Jackets... mga nka jacket ng pep e *** i recognized.. so kala ko UST is joining....

yun pala kaya sila nandon is that sila ang nag train sa St. Mary's College!!! its a little bit odd kc all UST moves ang ginawa.. pati beats.. yung mga U-S-T, pinapalitan *** ng S-M-C, kaya the Adamson crowd is chanting U-S-T while SMC was performing... anyway.... I was rooting that night for SMC (kc UST na rin yon) and Adamson kasi UAAP member.. basta not the mayayabang CSB peeps na hello .. puros DLSU cheer naman ang ginagawa...

yups, SMC won :) GO USTE!!!

kung sa non-stop ganon lang pala mangyayari na UST lang ang mag all-canned music (na dapat naman kc CHEERDANCE nga) ... sana UST have stuck with their halftime cheers na lang.. nanalo pa sila!!! c'mon when it comes to halftime shows.. no doubt UST gives out the best performances....

ayon ADAMSON (their routine was CHEERING) lost! ... when it comes to CHEERING naman talaga Adamson is far from beating UST. If only lahat sumunod sa criteria... makikita natin kung sino tlaga .. anyway, UST won third pa rin naman kahit na they did dancing. so kahit pala cheering and dancing pwede manalo UST.

Read somewhere that cheerdancing shouldn't involve any folkdancing. Hmm... I wonder if the competion has a set of rules implying just that.

Actually, I feel like UP totally deserved the title. Their dance is actually based on the movements of synchronized swimming, which is in itself a sport. That was an innovative approach to cheerdancing cheorography. And cheorography involves the use of brains and skills; therefore, wearing skirts isn't a necessary tactic for the UP Pep squad just for them to win the championship.

I disagree when u said UST SDT had the most difficult routine. If were gonna talk about degree of difficulty, try watching again and upon closer look, u will realize how difficult UP's routine was.

I know UP PEP. They would never do something just for the sake of doing it. If its possible to innovate to be more original, they would do it.

Look at the one-hand cartwheels, the handstands dropping to siitng positions, the valdez, the inverted split pyramid, the fast albas, the hinge push-ups, the cork screws, the reverse cork screws, the sticks, the backwalks, backhandsprings and round-offs, so many innovative gymnastics moves.

What made UP amazing is that they make the very hard routine very easy to look at. This is basically how u judge degree of difficulty. When u see a stunt done like nothing happened, then it must be because it was done really well. Try to watch the video again.

Another thing, UP's routine was entirely thought of. They may have incorporated the sticks and the synchronized swimming routines in the competition piece but it was in the context of cheerdance and nothing was placed there just to be called innovative. Lets face it, it was all about the proper moves and the proper choreography.

UST-SDT for me really went out of hand with their try to be innovative. What they presented seemed to me like a production number of a Matrix Sequel. Yes the moves were there but it was way out of the context of cheerdance. Yes it was dance. But cheerdance? Come on!

And another thing, UP's costume was made to emphasize their moves. They did not wear that kind of costume just to look good (altho with their fit bodies, they DO look good!). The costume was definitely made FOR THE ROUTINE. In fact, it could have betrayed them had they been not synchronized enough considering that the lines were very visible from afar. And if they are not synchonized, it would have been magnified. That costume helped them with their performance. But it would also have ruined their show.

No doubt, UP deserved the title.

FYI, CSB Green Peppers had been a three-time RX Champion beating other UAAP member schools like UP, La Salle, UST, FEU and Adamson....:D

I have observed na some of them are making ayos pa their shades whether suot nila ito o nakasabit lang sa pangambang baka malaglag. nagkataon kasi na wala ng maupuan ang friends ko na mga taga-UP noong compet. so sa ka-tangahan nila(na hindi ko alam kung bakit nila ginawa yun...) umupo sila sa pugad ng UST. at alam nyo ba ang mga nangyari?

well, anyway, hayaan na natin ang mga yan... panalo naman tayo eh... kasi ORIGINAL tayo... hindi pa-matrix-matrix... and y r u challenging the UP Pep to wear skirts when ginaya nyo nga *** costume nila last year na pants... difficulty? hello?! obvious naman na mas difficult *** stunts ng UP noh! and its a CHEERDANCING COMPETITION, not cheerleading... :D

eh kung di ka ba naman gaga eh NAKA-BRAID and BUHOK nila nung compet - mahaba ang buhok? magpapaniwala kasi sa sabi sabi - puro kasinungalingan naman.
