i have a 522 mb .wav file in here and i want to cut it into smaller files. how do i do that? what program should i use? HELP!!!

btw, i'll be making mp3s out of those smaller .wav files. what do you think i should do?

large wav file ---> several small wav files ---> mp3 files

OR

large wav file ---> large mp3 file ---> several mp3 files

which would result to a better quality? and how do i do that?

Most general sound editors (SoundForge, Goldwave, etc. ) will probably allow you to select specifc blocks and cut them out so you can make smaller files. Usually you'll be presented with a waveform display and you can highlight a block to cut out or copy. While newer editor versions support MP3 editing, it is still advisable to work on WAVs since MP3s are divided into frames which makes editing less precise. If there are gaps between the songs (silences), some programs can extract the songs automatically, though I don't remember what these programs are.

Yes, Goldwave allows you to put markers at specific time/sample.

You can also process *.wav files using Matlab
