well i don't really think so.

most of my hs friends(if not all) were DOST scholars as a college freshman but by the end of their college career, they were out of it. it maybe something like an "achievement" on your resume but other than that, it's bullcrap especially if you study in UP where the tuition is really nothing much.

wala lang, libreng tuition plus a measly stipend. but it's better than nothing. kaso ngayon, hindi na full subsidy sa tuition e. we still pay around 2k.

i've heard na mahirap kumuha ng visa ang mga DOST scholars. my sisters had a hard time before. i'm not sure kung mahirap parin ngayon.

pag DOST scholar ka ba di ka pwede umalis ng pinas for at least five years after your graduation? if i recall it correctly, yung isang friend ko di tinuloy application niya sa company namin kasi bawal daw umalis ng pinas. eh sa amin kasi may training at assignments abroad. sayang nga daw eh...

I came from a really poor family but got a lot of scholarship grants after HS and chose DOST because of the "measly stipend", book allowance etc. (hehehe, kung wala kang baon the whole HS life mo malaki na ang PhP900 back in late 80s/early 90s - pays for the lunch and the fare plus minimum lakwatsa).

So you could say DOST being a big deal is a relative term. In terms of finding a job, I don't think it matters much (though it can't hurt and looks good on the resume).

i graduated from Fordham last may and i did not get any scholarship because most American Universities do not grant scholarships for international student Undergraduates. I was a fairly mediocre student in high school(i did go to a tough high school, Philippine Science High School that is). I answered your PM weeks ago about your questions but to reiterate. In these modern times, you can check out the websites of the schools you want to apply to. back in the day, we had to send letters to each of the schools' undergraduate admissions office. I took the TOEFL, SAT I and SAT II. My mom helped me with a lot of my applications and she knew the schedules for the SAT I and II and TOEFL which i took latter in UP DIliman and the first two at International School Manila.
