I've only followed the UAAP since 95 but here are some more names to consider:

Olsen Racela, Gabby Severino, and Jayvee Gayoso.

Peace.

I agree with Dennis' choices but I wouldn't include Villanueva just yet -- Instead, I would have to go for Gabby Severino

Olsen Racela, Richie Ticzon, Vince Hizon, John Verayo, and Gabby Cui make up my top 5 Blue Eagles for the 90s.

Sa 80's naman, I would say Jun Reyes, Danny Francisco, Eric Reyes, and Nonoy Chuatico.
Honorable mention: Jojo Lastimosa - he spent only one season as a Blue Eagle in 86 but I'm sure that he would have made a big impact had he stayed.

Sa 70's sila Steve Watson, Joy Carpio, Fritz Gaston, and Padim Israel.

I saw Danny Francisco at his prime and was very disappointed when he had to quit basketball due to health reasons. I thought he could have been one of the all time greats in basketball. He reminded me of a Mon Fernandez only bigger and one can only dream of what could have been.

2. Richie Ticzon
3. Olsen Racela
4. Junie Rentosa
5. John Verayo

I wouldn't put Villanueva or Gonzales in there just yet. They still have to mature some more as players.

Danny Francisco should've been there too. Sayang talaga. I remember the way he starred for the '89 RP Youth team (w/ Meneses, etc.). Jun Limpot was just his reliever then...tsk tsk tsk

Here are my picks:

1. Ticzon
2. Hizon
3. Verayo
4. Cui

5. Tie between Red Camua & Sandy Arespacochaga.

Si Camua, nasapawan lang ng playing time bec of Ticzon. Did you notice his heave-ho threes and his slicing-the-middle then pass out for a 3?

Si Arespacochaga, was truly the BEST defensive man out there. He sacrifices his body a lot just to take that charge!

This is actually hard, but it would be better if we tried to rank the best players according to the position they played...anyway, here goes:

Ticzon, Verayo, Cui, Rentosa, and Racela

I don't really agree with Hizon, because he didn't really make much of an impact. Ditto with the newer players like Villanueva or Gonzales, they still have a lot to offer based on their present game.

In the 80's, I'd go for Francisco.

Dennis S:

May I retract my first vote? I think Yoshi has a point about Hizon. I noticed him more when he hit the PBA. But of course, you know much more than I do about the UAAP team. What do you think about Yoshi's comment on Hizon? How did Hizon do during his ADMU stint?

I shall await your reply.

The Rock says that Richie Ticzon, Olsen Racela, John Verayo, Gabby Severino, and Mon Tioseco are probably the best 5 of the 90s. Remeber, this means COLLEGE careers. Vince Hizon wasn't so great in college, although he did bring (w/ Ticzon) that Ateneo win over La Salle in '93 after a five year drought. Junie Rentoza and Red Camua were pretty underrated as point guards as well. The present team is loaded with potential but only time will tell if they reach or surpass their potential.

Compare the list of the best of the 60's and the 90's. Ang layo!!! We have to admit that the 90's was really a bad decade for Ateneo basketball.

Correction:

I meant 80's not 60's

1) Michael Singh – The Fil-Indian whose smell is too strong for his teammates to bear.

2) Enrico Santiago – The dorky center who was virtually Limpot’s target practice dummy... There was never a challenge though.

3) Watson So – A big man in the '98 UAAP season who played very sparingly and did not contribute anything to the team. His minutes were entirely ate up by Fatso No. 14 from the Blue Eagles.

4) Mark Molina – The worst free throw shooter in Ateneo basketball history and the former stuck-up coach of the Blue Eagles. Does this guy really know how to coach when he can't even play?

5) Dodot Jaworski – Never became a good player in college but was an instant starter in the pro league. The thing is he only plays for the first five minutes of the game.

Is So still at Ateneo? Though his skills were raw when he played 2 yrs. ago, he played quite well in the final two games for Ateneo that year, when the Blue Eagles closed out an erstwhile disappointing season with victories over UP and Adamson. He played Gamboa to a standoff in the UP game and quality minutes in Ateneo's subsequent rout of Adamson. If he had played last year, he would have continued to improve.

A valid point there. Would anyone know where So is? Na QPI kaya? Also, what's this I hear Lenny Montilla needs residency again? If he didn't move out of Loyola, he should be able to play this year right? Na QPI kaya tapos bumalik? Sana wala nang residency. Mukhang tumangkad na nga siya from before. Is he as tall as Wesley already?

usp92: leonard played for ateneo for a yr lang. he went back to houston coz he got lonely here coz his parents are in texas. being an only child naturally he missed them. if i'm not mistaken, he gets really good grades. super sipag eh. neway, he can't play yet pa coz of residency. sayang nga eh coz he really wants to play ball na for admu :)
:)smiley: hey, seems like your pissed off with the admu players ah. y naman? kawawa naman c rico, tinawag mong fatso 14. u started the thread din about him diba? neway, just curious,he's a friend of mine kc.

I would say Richie Ticzon,Olsen Racela,Gabby Cui, John Verayo and Vince Hizon for the 90's

For the 80's I only will have a top 3. Jun Reyes, Danny Francisco and for us Blue Eaglets during the early 80's we will remember Roby Tanjuatco.

What do you think of my 80's top 3?

Yup, they were underrated as point guards probably because they were seen as shooting guards. But I think they did alternate positions when they were together on the court. Ganda rin nun, they had 2 point guards on the floor, the other alternating as a shooting guard. Red did a lot of the PG chores though, I think.

Oo nga, he's a real good shooter especially sa 3-point zone. Sayang sana nag-pro siya.
