hi! i couldn't help posting here coz im curious to find out what your favorite place/s or cities is/are in europe. for me, one of the places i found charming was amsterdam. the rows and rows of tulips and different flowers were breathtaking at keukenhoff gardens. this city was also full of culture with the famous works of artists in the rijkes and van gogh museum and the house of anne frank. not to mention the city's red light district where prostitution and drugs here are legal. other places i found interesting were switzerland. lucerne was great. very quaint, romantic, and scenic. playing in the snow at the alps was also fun. innsbruk in austria was also nice. venice was very very romantic and charming. i especially loved the gondola ride, and the little shops in venice island selling nice little stuff like masks, colorful jester's hats, and murrano glass. i'd love to visit this place again on my honeymoon one day. hehe! what else? i also found lourdes nice in a different sense. it was a very solemn place. taking a bath at the pecine and drinking the water of lourdes was a totally spiritual experience. paris and rome were nice of course because of its famous buildings, churches, museums, and monuments. last but not the least, london is on the top of my list. this city had a lot of culture and life in it. it was nice visiting the buckingham palace to watch the changing of the guards, the tower of london to see the crown jewels, westminster abbey to see where many famous people are buried, and st paul's cathedral where princess diana and prince charles were wed. another thing i liked about london also were the plays we watched there. cats, les miserables, phantom of the opera, starlight express, the mousetrap, etc. it was fun just exploring everything on our own since there were always plenty of things to do. shop at oxford street. visit sherlock holmes' house on baker street. visit the different museums. eat fish and chips and jacket potatoes. or just take a stroll in one of their many parks and feed the ducks or pigeons.
all in all, i can say that europe is one o f the best places anyone can visit. it's a place full of culture, history, and charm. what about u guys? for those here who have been to europe, what's your favorite place or places? for those who haven't, what places would you want to visit? =)

My favorite country in Europe is Norway since this is the first country i was able to visit plus it is really a charming country. The people are friendly and the midnight sun is just wonderful. Next to Norway is France and Monaco.
For cities my favorites are Paris (Museums, Architecture is wonderful) then Madrid and Barcelona.
I would love to go to Austria then to Greece and of course to Norway again.

oh yeah...i forgot to mention monaco too. it's a really nice place. did u guys know na they don't pay taxes in this country? hehe! la lang! it must be nice to live there! =) montecarlo was great..too bad we didn't have enough time to try out the casino. we also left too early so we missed the grand prix. sorrento in italy was nice too. very quaint. what else? cannes was okay though our beaches are still nicer. they don't have white sand! haha! but they do have a lot of topless sunbathers! so im sure guys would enjoy it there! as for madrid and barcelona, all we did there was shop plus there were a couple of people in our group who got robbed in those two places so i don't exactly have fond memories of spain. sayang nga we weren't able to watch a bull fight when we were in madrid kasi tickets were sold out that sunday we were there. but in fairness, spain was okay. their paella was super yummy! =)

i loved scotland! ganda ng mixture ng "old" and "new" city nila. when you're walking sa streets nila.. para kang nata-transport sa medieval times and at the same time you have the present culture na. the weather was just perfect when we went there.
amsterdam is great too pero nde ko nagustuhan yung pinaka-city nila. maganda yung sa oceanside. very quaint!
austria is also nice, doon sa may salzburg! lots and lots of nature to surround you. and they have a quaint city in innsbruck that isnt congested.
venice is a very very romantic place. the gondola ride, st. mark's square with all the pigeons in the square, the little shops and winding little streets there. not to mention the language of the venetians. so lyrical!
rome wasnt so bad rin. ganda ng colosseum, the ruins, the sistine chapel and st. peter's basilica... like.. WOW!
switzerland is also nice. very friendly people (as in very corteous pa nila!).
pero, i still have to see ireland! its been my dream for a very long time to go there ...

kal-sky: i have to agree doon sa sinabi mo about the swiss people. very courteous nga sila...at saka very civilized. when we were there, di kami masyado natakot na manakawan unlike in other places like paris, rome, and spain.
innsbruk in austria was very nice too. ganda ng mountains and scenery.
rome naman may special mention dito kasi i just watched 'sabrina goes to rome' yesterday at siyempre nagreminisce ako about my recent trip there. although i have to admit na medyo nadisappoint ako sa trevi fountain, spanish steps, pantheon, and sistine chapel when i saw it in person. they make it look better talaga in movies and pictures.
yung sistine chapel kasi hindi ko masyado nagustuhan yung pagka-restore sa kanya. parang masyadong bright yung colors. although ang galing talaga ni michelangelo. parang 3-D yung painting kasi niya.
yung fontana de trevi at spanish steps naman masyadong madaming tao at saka medyo madumi. we visited amsterdam, austria, germany, and switzerland first. so pag dating sa latin countries like italy, halata talaga yung difference. mas disciplined talaga yung mga nasa minention kong coutnries.
i'm not saying naman na i didn't find rome nice. rome just looks a lot better at night. ang ganda-ganda ng roman ruins pag may illuminations at nightt. sobrang breathtaking at feel na feel mo talaga na you're in rome.
regarding the men naman...haha! i know this is a little off-topic...pero i found the italian men the friendliest and most-goodlooking. i dunno why. :) i found a couple of cute guys in venice and in florence. the guys in spain and switzerland weren't so bad either. our local guide in barcelona was a cutie. some of the swiss guys in military outfits were headturners.
siguro the nice thing about guys in europe is that they're very vocal lalo na when they find a girl pretty. as in they'd tell you kaagad. :) how i wish guys in our country were like that! haha!
buti pa sa kanila..hindi yata uso sa kanila ang torpe! :D

I left my heart in Positano, Italy ( remeber the movie "Only You") super romantic. :luvluv: Rome, even if crowded, still is very full of things to see. Montecarlo, feeling ang yaman mo when you go there! Its such a small place but its like a wonderland for the rich! Paris has its unique feel to it!

positano, italy is such a wonderful place -- the amalfi coast is indeed a romantic place to visit. the towns around the coast each have their own special charm. while in positano, don't forget to take a boat to the island of capri -- which was also breathtaking.
ditto for venice. rome was dangerous and dirty, but there is something to be said about being in a place where two thousand years ago, people built those remarkable edifices. it truly deserves it's name -- the eternal city. and yes, the guys were gorgeous, but unfortunately -- not many of them were tall.
paris is paradise for people-watchers -- all those sidewalk cafes! water with NO gas, please!
the town of nice in the south of france is also great. but their beaches cannot even hold a candle to our very own boracay or the beaches in palawan.
our country is beautiful!

Oist! I would say Antwerpen (antwerp) in Belgium. But if you are gonna talk about freedom, definitely it is AMSTERDAM!!! :D Eindhoven and Maastricht are also nice. Hasselt in Belgium is one also :).

There are a lot of good cities in europe. There's London. You could go on a city tour with their tour buses and see the different historical landmarks. Plus you could also see a number of good plays and musicals. Plus you could go shopping. Then there is Amsterdam, na may areas nga lang na parang maynila na mapanghe at madumi. There is this town in Germany, which I can't remember now which is also very nice. Then there's Vienna, Austria, which has grand buildings and structures na city hall pa lang eh parang palasyo na. They also have a beautiful flower garden. Then nariyan din ang Florence sa Italy. Of course, ok rin ang Paris pero moreso if you have plenty of money. OK rin ang lucerne, switzerland. You should go there whenever you can. If you like to see beatiful architecture and historical sights, go to europe. Kung ok na kayo sa theme parks, US ang puntahan niyo.

yup! i agree with ibrowse! iba talaga ang appeal ng europe sa U.S...i guess if you're more into culture, art, and history, visit europe. pag mas type mo ang shopping at theme parks, visit the US.
derby, is positano near sorrento? we went to sorrento kasi..it's in italy din...and from there, u can take a boat ride to capri island. i also agree na the beaches in europe cannot compare to our beaches here. hindi pa yata uso sa kanila ang white sand. i dunno what all the hype is about the french riviera! nice yung deep blue color ng sea pero yung sand naman ang itim!
montecarlo is definitely nice pero pang rich and famous talaga! sayang nga hindi namin naabutan yung f1 grand prix race doon nung may.
cherrybaby, yup! a number of the european guys there do stink! haha! but we had a more traumatic experience in rome when we rode the J bus and it was filled with indian tourists. we felt like fainting and puking when we finally got out! haha!

tRiN: i agree with you! doon ko lang yata na-feel na i could walk kahit sobrang late na sa gabi... ganda ng scenery and everything else!
i also have to agree with you tungkol don sa italian men. medyo flirtatious din sila. o diba? medyo memorable yung venice and rome kse biglang may nag-flirt sakin. haaayyy... la lang!
medyo disappointing din yung trevi fountain and spanish steps dahil sooooobrang daming tao... sunday pa man din kami tinour doon kaya soooobrang daming tao. naloka ako! feeling ko na-claustro ako don.
london is nice too! sarap maglakad around pero medyo naloka kami ng nanay ko kse medyo nakakita kami ng robbery right in front of us (as in kasalubong namin yung mga magnanakaw habang naglalakad). syempre, shocked kami to the max na medyo na-glue na lang kami sa kinatatayuan namin... asus! pero, aside from that, dami naming na-meet na very friendly people... especially their taxi drivers! sobrang bait!

all time favorite is paris of course! - haunting, mysterious and romantic.
lucerne, switzerland - medieval, nature, clean, and quaint
romantic road in germany specifically Rothenburg ob de tauber: very medieval, pedestrian narrow roads, its christmas throught the year!
northern norway esp one of the most beautiful routes in the word- flam, myrdal, to bergen with a breathtaking fjords tour.
the isles of greece
the very 'sound of music' salzburg, similar to switzerland, breathtaking natural surroundings, lots of lake, and snow covered alps.

hi trin! -- to answer your question, yes the towns of sorrento and positano are near each other. they're both located in the sorrento peninsula -- but the former is on the northern side of the peninsula, while the latter is on the southern side. picture if you will -- although they're not, literally -- that these two towns are back to back.
while on a tour in nice, we had with us a lebanese couple, who said that nice was much like lebanon. all i remembered about lebanon was that there was a war going on in there, and that my old passport had a "not valid for travel to lebanon" stamp on it. i had to stop and ask them -- they said that the war ended in 1990. it was curious to note that they spoke french really well. apparently, french was the medium of instruction in school. so, it was like an official second language for them. anyone here ever been to lebanon?

Favorite City: Berlin. I like the efficiency of the public transport system. Everything is on time. Plus the environmental consciousness of the people. They segregate their garbage. Very quaint.
AlsoLondon. The Brits are friendly.
Least like: Paris Over-rated. Tourists are scattered everywhere! Snooty Frenchmen!
