My vote goes to Orchard Road. Damn, what can I say? Aside from all the great malls (like Takashimaya), it's also aesthetically pleasing. This for me is an important, though much-overlooked, aspect of shopping, since the ambience of where you shop contributes to how much much you enjoy shopping there.
I'm not good enough to clinically disect and analyze the various aspects of the ambience present in Orchard Road. All I can say is that I find it much more relaxing and that makes me enjoy my shopping there more than I do in HK. I dunno, maybe it's all the trees :)
Uh, sorry, did I sidetrack too much from your question?

haven't been to orchard rd, but you're better off thinking twice b4 shopping along nathan rd.
clothes are ok i guess, and u get a good mix of upmarket brands and the more alternative, specially if you veer off a few streets here and there (granville rd is popular for the girls)...
but if you're thinking of buying electronics, there's only one rule of thumb for the locals- DON'T :D

Orchard Road is a haven for signature brand shops...
definitely more bargain finds at Tsim Sha Tsui...
if it's really shopping that i'm gonna do, i'd go for the latter...money doesn't grow on trees ya know :D Orchard Road, like what BadGiRL said, is great pero for window shopping lang. i wouldn't want to spend all of my shopping money on just one day noh kaya sa Tsim Sha Tsui nalang ako! :) Ambiance-wise though, Orchard Road coz the place is so clean...ala park ang dating outside the shops. then again, that's not surprising since everywhere else around Singapore is like that anyways.
argh! basta...it would depend on my mood, and whatever it is that i wanna buy siguro.

they are both expensive HK and Singapore. If you want to shop go to the Silk Market in BeiJing mura talaga. Beijing is as a cosmopolitan city as any city in the world.

yep, mahal nga sa orchard road kse halos lahat dun puro signature brands. Pero if you'll go dun sa mga sulok-sulok ng orchard (ex.Metro and Takashimaya), para na ring divisoria.

It's definitely Orchard Road for me. I go to both HK and Singapore almost every month, and I've noticed that ever since the turn over, HK has been slowly 'deteriorating' in the sense that a lot of shops have closed and those that are still open have jacked up their prices to unreasonable levels. Singapore, on the other hand, is still the same. Not everything in Orchard Rd is expensive.
Nathan Rd isn't so bad but if I had to choose one, it's definitely Orchard rd...

Nathan Road? Well, if you have a fetish for dirty places, old people spitting just about anywhere (like in 'Pinas), forever-renovating-shops, shirtless people walking around, etc. etc., then Nathan Rd. it is. In fairness though, there are great bargains around if you know where to find 'em.
Orchard road scores big in environm, ental points. It's the trees, man! And the sidewalks! Yay, Orchard!

Having been to both places several times, I still feel more at "home" walking along Nathan road than Orchard. Yes, it's dirty. Yes, I see some folk spit on the road (although I haven't seen anybody pee on a public wall yet). Yes, prices have kinda gone up since the handover to China in 1997. But despite this, HK always has had a special place for whatever I was looking for - Nathan road for the trendy shops and the clubs/restaurants; If I'm looking for something concerning computers, I head off for the famous Golden Arcade in Sham Shui Po; clothes bargains can be found in Mong Kok. And most of all, I can never get enough of the FOOD! The Chinese restaurants over there are the best in the world, bar none. Even if you don't fancy eating at an expensive Chinese resto, you can always head off to Stanley to savor the Dai Pai Dong - the street eateries where you sit on rickety chairs on a dirty table while your food is cooked in front of you. Man, this is making me hungry....
I can't wait to go back...my growling tummy is telling me to...

some tales for you:
i was shopping for a big-ticket item in tsim and this happened in all the four shops i went to:
first, you and the salesman haggle on a price.
then, when he does agree to a price (which now stands at about 60% of the original one) he makes you sit down and wait for the item.
they pretend to get it from upstairs or another room or from one of their other shops nearby. they take your money and issue a receipt.
while waiting, they try to sell you lots of other stuff like accessories to the item or something totally different from their shelves. this time though they don't let you haggle and when you refuse, they try to sell you something else.
if you tell them you don't need anything else other than the thing you paid for, count to thirty and you will be told that they do not have any new stock of the thing you bought so here's your money back thank you very much.
this i have been told is their standard m.o. so be careful when in Nathan.
Orchard, on the other hand, was relatively pleasant. You can dive dive dive when haggling but just be prepared to buy the thing when the storekeeper finally says yes to your divisoria tawad. if you walk away and don't buy it, get ready for a mouthful. this happened to me and was my face red.
so wherever you go, i hope this helps. cheers.
