Halikinu
(soft & slow to loud & faster per repetition )

Halikinu kinikina
Halikinu kinikina
Yebo Yebo Ateneo rah!
Halikinu ho! Halikinu rah!
Halikinu kinikina rah rah rah!

I have no idea what this cheer means..
but story goes that it was imported from
the States..way back in the day..when American jesuits still ran the Ateneo.
It's a great cheer..and it's intensity
and repetition depends largely on the
status of the game.
As true of school rivalries, some San
Bedista or Letranista came up with a great
parody back in the 'rumbulan' years of the
70's.

For me, La Salle's loss to UST during the first round poses no threat . La Salle lost by only two points, and it could have been the winner if they had only delivered those free throws and missed lay-ups. The team's BIG THREE (Allado, Ritualo, and Aldeguer) is still intact, and they are sure to fire once again with its match with the Tigers on the second round. I really think that they are still capable of a back-to-back championship. Let's just see what happens in the La Salle-FEU game and judge later on.

However, I really admire the Tigers for their teamwork. It's really a surprise to see them performing greatly despite the loss of its key players. All I can say, is good luck to all!

A REQUEST:

Hey guys! I am really interested in the cheers of some teams. For members of these schools, please supply the missing lines:

UST: I really like the "Who's-Gonna-Win-There's-Nobody-Else.................Animo Tigers, Beat De La Salle, Beat DE La Salle, Beat De La Salle!
Care to supply the missing lines?

Ateneans: I cannot understand the
"Halikinu Rah!...cheer. I would like to know the meaning of this. But your B, L, U, E,
E-A-G-L-E spelling cheer is really great.

Easterns: I really admire you for your unity in cheering! Win or lose, you're still there to cheer for the Warriors! You even wear red shirts!

FEU: I hate it when you shout, "We're the best!...We're the best!....it sounds like....FX!,FX!" No offense...Peace!

UP: There's one cheer that I truly like especially when you cheer it all together...yung "U-nibersidad ng Pilipinas!, U-nibersidad ng Pilipinas!"

ADamson: Like UE, you're always there to support your teams win or lose! Keep on cheering!

NU: Well, it seems that the dismal performance of the Bulldogs may have been due to the non-support of the academe. Everytime there's a match of NU, only their band is present, along with a handful of alumni (and I think they're relatives of the players.) I think they should exert more effort in cheering for their teams.

and of course, La Salle!

keep on cheering La Sallians! Always heed the call of the Animo....Green White Fight!
Live the tradition of our old cheers that has long existed eversince our NCAA years in the 1920's. Animo La Salle!Wherever you are!

Thank you for your time in reading.

Yeah, the Blue Eagle spelling cheer is cool, but I'd like to hear the other schools go, "UE spelling! Ready!" or "University of the Philippines - Diliman spelling! Ready!"

Hi there! here's the Unibersidad ng Pilipinas cheer you like: (I like it too!)

U-nibersidad ng Pilipinas! (8x)
Matatapang, matatalino
Walang takot, kahit kanino
Hindi, hindi magpapahuli
Ganyan kaming mga taga-U.P.
U-nibersidad ng Pilipinas! (4x)....ooohh!!!

Hope I was able to help!

It is ONLY in the UAAP now the undisputed
Number One College League where the cheering
is really intense. Before it was the NCAA when La Salle and Ateneo were still in it.

All the participating universities have very
good Cheering Squads.

ANIMO LA SALLE!

In 1991, the cheerleaders of UP used to have a cheer with the words "Makibaka, Huwag Matakot". I do not hear it anymore these days.

During that time, I found the above cheer so amusing as it sounded so "UP" and it somehow mirrored the events of that time (1991)

Anyway, I agree that the "U-nibersidad ng Pilipinas Cheer" is a good cheer, too.

Any Tigers around here? Just wanted to know if it's true that they spend a year preparing for the cheerleading competition usually held on opening day. I wouldn't be surprised what with the presentations they come up with. And they do have a lot of fearless cheerleaders. I wonder if they ever get afraid of not being caught at the last second.

Btw, was there a cheerleading competition this year?

When I passed UP some time ago, I saw their cheering squad practice:

IM-PER-YA-LIS-MO! (I-bagsak! I-bagsak!)
CAPI-TA-LIS-MO! (I-bagsak! I-bagsak!)
PYU-DA-LIS-MO! (I-bagsak! I-bagsak!)

It's true! I even saw them waving placards and stuff... oh, well.

I used to crack jokes in the past that UP's cheers should include "Makibaka! Huwag Matakot!". But until I read csm88's reply, I didn't know it was actually true. Like wow.

ako, tiger...kahit hindi muna ngayong sem...de joke.

para don sa nagre-request nung cheer...here goes...

who's gonna beat them ... stand up to meet them ... who can ... we can ... nobody else can ... animo tigers, beat dela salle, beat dela salle ... yon lang po.

i really miss the games and you make me recall the cheers....huhuhu... ok lang yon.

and for the one who asked about the preparations the cheerers go thru....sorry ha, i did not remember ur name...i'm so sorry.

yep, they train for almost a year. i mean meron kasing cheerers, yung nagcha-chant nung cheers, they are called the black and gold ( ata?, kasi meron din yung jackets ... black and gold jackets? ... basta parang ganun ...sorry ha... ) tapos yung sumasayaw, yung nagpe-perform na naka-skirt, salinggawi dancers naman yon. sila yung official dance troupe ng ust. sila yung nagpa-practice for almost a year. i call them the daredevils. minsan, pag walang sasayaw o pag hindi la salle ang kalaban ( hehehe !!! ), yung cheerers na nagcha-chant na lang ang nagpe-perform. siguro mga two months or less prior ng UAAP nagpa-practice yung dalawang cheerers para mag-synchronize. yun lang po.

'sensya ka na if i am not super familiar with the names of the cheerers kasi 'lam mo, i am not there right now. i miss the UAAP games. i just based my answers about the UST probes sa aking mga pagaala-ala ng UAAP ... drama. pero totoo, i just recall things from my memories of the UAAP.

take care everyone.

To the Thomasians,

I just want to know if the UST cheerers were
also there during the UST-ATENEO Soccer Finals at ULTRA last March.

I was expecting that there would be a good turn out of the "black & gold" pero outnumbered ang UST by Ateneo

Nanalo tuloy ang Ateneo. Hope you can also support the teams in the other sports. Pero that's asking too much no?

yup being a fighting maroon (or is it moron?!?!?! hehehe), the U-nibersidad ng Pilipinas cheer is pretty good..makes me proud to be a UPista or whatever we call ourselves. I remember being a freshman and being forced to watch the UAAP opening ceremonies....some cheers were just so lame-o. and it's just weird how ppl always relate makibaka and activisms with UP peeps when majority of the students are apathetic to those things na...some say it's a sad turn of events..but that's UP now. Anyhu, back to sports, it's sad that basketball is the only sport with great viewer turnout. I think football is a great sport everybody should watch and cheer their schools at the games. I have to give mad props to ateneo and la salle for showing great support for their booters, kaya sila super galeng coz a lot of ppl watch and cheer for them...so ever wonder why our UP fighting maroon footballers don't get a chance to shine? it's the lack of support kasi...so might as well cheer for all the whole varsity teams, right?

Well, maybe other people will start supporting their teams if the UAAP also announces the schedules of other sports.

We should suggest to Kabooom! to tell the UAAP about announcing the schedules of the other games.

Trinjy, parang tayo lang yata ang may concern for the other sports, ah.

I was there too at the Ateneo-UST Soccer Finals - just a spectator.

But it was the first time for me to witness a soccer championship.

I particularly like the blue face paints. I've seen UST have their face painted gold during the basketball finals. Should UST enter the soccer finals again, I hope that the school will support the team.

UST has a great team in soccer. And to think that their coach, Nonoy Carpio, was a "rookie" coach.

Kaboom!

Nonoy Carpio is a very good friend and did a tremendous job with the UST team. Nanood din ako nang football finals last year at na impress ako sa coaching niya. Lamang pa nga sila until ADMU got the momentum in the second half.

Peace.
