updates naman oh about the junior games...standings and results for the 1st round. super wala akong alam ( i miss the hs!). if anyone has all the results and standings, post it here naman. thanks!

Alcogel, Ateneo is currently leading the pack with a 6-0 standing and has so far kicked everyone's ***. The closest game they had was a 20-point blowout of UST. Last Sunday they beat La Salle by 40 pts.

In short, congratulations to the ADMU eaglets for winning the 1999 men's junior championship!

P.S. But La Salle Zobel has the best-looking players.

The only reason ATENEO is 6-0 at the end of the first round is because of the mere fact that they have a killer press! Other than that, Ateneo,Lasalle,UST and Adamson would all be at bay with each other. Now that the coaches and the players themselves have been given the chance to scout and play against them, the SECOND ROUND will truly be a different story!

Last sunday was a devastating loss for the bengals. It was supposed to be a wonderful game,a game to be fought till the end...in short, a photo finish! The showdown between the best offensive team(ATENEO) w/c averages 90 points a game and the best defensive team (DLSU) w/c only allows opponents a pathetic 39 points a game. The game turned out to be a lopsided victory for ateneo though. nevertheless, expect Lasalle to rise from defeat and bury the eaglets this second round.

Di lang naman ang La Salle ang pwede mag-scout ng ibang teams...pati Ateneo pwede rin...so scouting isn't necessarily a reason that the Bengals will "bury the eaglets"
And don't expect Ateneo to put down their guards...I'm sure Coach Arespacochaga knows better :)

In my opinion, the eaglets WILL win the campionship...so one even comes close...

players of zobel : carlo trillo, carlo belen, anton lopez, carlos pardo, franco ongkingko, steeve mago, dominic banal, waldo bautista, anton ortigas, yong sik choi, urra, and a lot more.

fyi, ateneo has no losses, adamson has one, and zobel has two after the first round.

yes, ateneo-lasalle would make a good finals game. adamson may be in there also, they have a suprisingly pretty strong team his year.

Never went to LS-Zobel, but I've always known that its junior team's the Bengals (y'know, a tiger). But UST's junior team is properly named Tiger Cubs, so I'm wondering, isn't it confusing? And how come LSZ has a different name from its mother school?

Maybe we should change it for uniformity. Baby Archers? Too wussy. Archeritos? Too snack food-ish. BowBoys? Alaskado lang sila. Any suggestions?

And while we're at it, what about LS Greenhills? What league do they play in, given LSZ's representation in the UAAP? Are they any good? At bakit LSZ, hindi LSGH, ang nasa UAAP?

Maybe you kids can teach me something...

To anyone who thinks there is a team who can beat the eaglets this year...think again. The Eaglets are a cut above the rest this year and it would take a major miracle for any team to topple them. The exodus of payers from the defending champion Tiger Cubs is telling heavily on their title hopes and I thing Zobel does not have enough talent. Larry Fonacier, Elmido, Palines, Baua, P. de Leon -- these are veterans who tasted the agony of losing a championship series last year and I'm sure the wouldn't want to let it happen again. Lastly, they have a great coach (who happens to be a friend of mine), Mr. Sandy Arespacochaga. They're definitely gonna go all the way.

yep, galing akong zobel. i left after grade 6 (ka-batch ko sila then. ngayon, i'm one batch higher, hindi ako nag-grade seven - that's why i'm so interested in them!)

i know trillo, belen, lopez, mago,not sure about bautista, ortigas. yung iba, either hindi ko maalala or hindi ko talaga kilala =)

well, dlsz is the official grade school/high school of the dlsu system. and remember when dlsu had its gs/hs there in taft? well, they transferred the gs/hs to alabang - thus, dlsz. at least, thats what i know.
being a different name from the mother school? hey, i don't know that either =)


DENNIS S: dlsz? yup, they have talent and maybe, they can defeat the eaglets. sabi rin before sa college dlsu-ateneo game, hindi raw matatalo ng ateneo ang dlsu, but they did. malay mo, same result with the juniors. yung last game nila, grabe lang talaga yung defense ng ateneo and pangit ang inbouding ng zobel...mas exciting if the two schools meet!

First, let me clarify some things. I think that neither DLSZ nor UST is running second to Ateneo in the high school wars. Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t Adamson in second place after the first round?

I guess it’s too early to say, but I think that Ateneo so dominates the junior league this year that the only thing left to consider is the team that it will face in the finals. This should serve as a reminder to the other schools to start beefing up their teams unless they want Ateneo to win the crown every year. There’s just so much material in Ateneo high as compared to the other schools. Case in point: Let me compare Ateneo and DLSZ. Ateneo has 10 (or is it 12?) sections in each year level, whereas DLSZ only has about 7 which is reduced to roughly 4 sections because DLSZ is a coed school! I can’t speak for the other teams, but there are just relatively fewer guys in Zobel therefore less material. As a result, DLSZ has been consistently placing 3rd or 4th in the juniors division, and nothing more. In fact, the best finish DLSZ ever had was during the time of the Sison twins and Dino Aldeguer. Their team ranked first after the double round eliminations, only to fall to Adamson in the finals (inexperience maybe?) Since then, nothing significant has happened and either Ateneo or UST has won the crown for the past five years.

hmm..ateneo may have more places to search for talent (having 12 sections) but that doesn't mean that zobel can't find playes as good as players from other schools. case in point, the exact year they finished 2nd to adamson. even with a smaller base for male talents, they were able to get pass the ateneo then. umm, question though...is ust co-ed in hs? if they are, then saying that having an all male base would be easier for finding talent is contradicted. as u said, they have faced each other in the finals the last 4(or5) years. But i do agree that ateneo is just waiting for an opponent in the final. being from zobel in my gs years, i do hope they would make it against ateneo. thanks for replying!

Yes, UST high is coed, but there are a lot more sections as compared to Zobel. UST has a night high school as well, though I'm not sure if they're allowed to recruit players from there.

As much as I would like to cheer for Zobel, it seems like a wasted effort since malayo talaga ang agwat ng Ateneo juniors. The crown is as good as theirs.

i would say yes. especially by the way they've defeated the other teams in the 1st round. however, i'm still hoping for at least 1 2nd round defeat for the ateneans (to avoid a sweep!) and for a final to take place. just in case, i still hope it would be a dlsz-ateneo game.
