1) Ford Explorer Sport Trac - not as big as the F150 or Expedition, super porma pa and you can even afford to go over flooded areas with its high ground clearance
2) Toyota RAV4 A/T - love those bulging fenders! roomy and futuristic interior
3) Toyota Echo A/T - funky but generally unappreciated styling; easy to drive and roomy as well with good fuel economy to boot to fight the rising gas prices
4) Audi TT convertible - wow, I can't believe 1 can buy this car in the Phil. If you have the dough, get one ASAP! If only my lotto combination finally wins big time...

A few questions first:
1. Magkano budget?
2. Bago or pre-owned?
3. Anong klase gusto mo (sedan, wagon, SUV, etc.)
4. How good a driver are you?
5. Do you know much about cars?
Recommend ko: Suzuki Vitara Plus 4AT (hindi ito yung Grand Vitara, ito yung boxtype kaya mura lang).
Huwag mo isipin ang iisipin ng ibang tao. Basta mahal mo sasakyan mo, its the best car in the world. I had a Kia Besta nung pre-med. I loved it so much. Kung sa kinis, linis, at ayos panis mga Japanese compact sedans ng classmates ko. Dami pa upuan. =) Ang porma nasa nagdadala.

If you want to be cool and save money at the same time, avoid popular SUV's like the RAV4 and CRV. Mga walang alam sa sasakyan lang ang na-i-impress sa mga ganyang sasakyan. If you want a cheap, automatic transmission na SUV then you can choose between the Kia Grand Sportage or the old look Vitara (still sold by Pilhino Sales along EDSA).Both would cost around Php 850,000 (mas mura yata ang Vitara). Difference is mas malaki ang Sportage sa Vitara and turbo intercooler diesel engine ang Sportage as opposed to the Vitara's 4 cylinder gasoline engine. Don't worry about reliability that much as most new vehicles are expected to be trouble free for at least two years. Kung may masira man at kailangan gumastos, hindi pa rin siguro maco-cover ang price difference nila with the RAV4 ang total repair expenses within a three year period.

Kung may ganyan lang tinda dito I'd buy it in a heartbeat.
Anyways, why don't you get something classy.. like a Lexus ES300, Altezza, or a Camry? You will love it :)

I have a 1994 Toyota 4Runner---and this baby runs just like when I bought it brand new. Toyota can't be beat when it comes to reliability kaya mahal yan eh.
If KIA has a diesel SUV then go for it. Don't buy a car based on pogi points--you have to know the return of your investment-e.g., how long this vehicle will and can serve you.

I saw the new Nissan Sentra Exalta Grandeur yesterday at a Nissan dealer. What a long name! I had mixed impressions regarding the car. Styling is somewhat okay but typically Japanese bland. The front end seems to mimic the Infiniti I35 in the States - understandable since Nissan and Infiniti are sister brands. I liked the rear tail lights. Side profile is neither you like or dislike.
The interior is a disappointment! What seems like a big car on the outside is so cramped inside. I bumped my head in the rear seat section and the leg room is rather short. The salesmen were saying that the interior has wood but it's obviously lacquered plastic!
The VCD system and the rear backup sensor with indicator on the rear view mirror are the new hi-tech stuff inside the car. It's a nice touch -- the VCD system with the Popup screen and controls on the steering wheel. But, I saw a better setup -- TV and VCD,unlike the Sentra's system which can't pick up TV signals, as a dealer installed option in the new Civic (both VTi and VTiS) from Honda Cars Tarlac. Mas high tech ang dating 'coz you would be surprised na may TV screen pala inside what looked like a tape deck.
The big letdown on the new Sentra: the price. P875 T for the top of the line Grandeur (the one with the VCD and popup screen). Imagine paying that much dough -- at least P900 T including insurance and registration. I doubt if it would be worth at least P700 T after one year of use. That seems to be really a problem of the Sentra and the Nissan brand as a whole -- resale value because of a bad image.
Nice effort Nissan but not enough!

Go for a Civic and believe your parents at mataas ang resale value plus WALANG taxi na Honda unlike Toyota,Mitsubishi,or Nissan.
wala ngang taxi na Honda pero marami namang riceboy na Honda. Dibale na lang.
I'm better off with the family car and taxi image instead of riceboy image. ;)

I have to agree with :P . I don't mind sticking to the family or taxi image, as long as I know I can drive for long distances at considerable speeds. FYI, Mercedes, Honda, Proton, and Ford are used as TAXIS in Munich and Salzburg. :silly:
It depends on how you define "sensible" and "maporma". I enjoy my Mitsubishi Galant although it's a '94 model and automatic, because I love driving at great speeds in the wee hours of the morning!!
If you want it the "maporma" way, I suggest you buy a BMW 5 or 7 or 8 series. It's the best to drive but please get the manual one. Maybe a vintage Jaguar can do, if you're more interested to the "porma". You can also ask you mommy and daddy to get you the Mercedes CLK or SLK, yun nga lang, they're downright expensive. But if your family is rich like the Ayala's or the Zobel's, they're the best that money can buy. The Opel Vectra and the Audi TT is also one of the best when you want to make "paporma". You don't need to modify the car (like having it lowered or modifying the machine, replacing the mufflers and the mags, or installing a halogen neon-colored lamp for the headlights and act like a girl version of a usual Pinoy RICEBOY. :silly: !)
Chrysler, Renaud, Peugeot, Alfa Romeo and Volvo are also good brands to consider. Or you can get the Ferrari that Michael Schumacher loves to drive.
If you want a "sensible" and "maporma", the new Honda civic and Toyota Corona will do. The new Rav4 is also nice but when you want turtle-like vehicles, go for the Sportage or the CR-V instead. For cars, my top suggestion will have to include a Mitsubishi Galant.
Cheers! Enjoy your would-be car! :D

sabi nya, echo nalang daw kung yung RAV4.. pero she can extend it to the new civic.. kahit na mas mahal.. kasi my sister and my 2 bro's drive civics na (accord, vti & sir) so parang may tiwala na sya..
that's why i didn't want a honda, kasi lahat ng kami honda!!
pero OK ba ang echo.. sabi kasi ng mom ko bagay naman sa akin, im petite and girl naman ako, so ayun..

JaCziE, you'll be happy with a compact car. Don't go with SUVs yet since it'll be a challenge for you to drive in Manila traffic. I like Hondas and Toyotas myself. Their dependability will save you lots of trips to the mechanic. Some would say go for cheaper models, but in the long run it'll just be a headache. Good luck...

umm...if between a Toyota Echo and a Honda Civic, kahit na marami nang Civic sa inyo, I'd go for a Civic (top of the line STOCK of course--none of those racing effects :D :D :D). Galants are nice, too. Nothing personal and no offense, but Echos are just too tiny.
But seriously, the roads can be perilous. Baka naman masyadong maliit yun especially against all those humongous buses. Convince your mom for a RAV-4 or a CRV. They're small enough to handle Manila traffic. They're supposedly built to handle badly and/or never paved roads, and they're pretty big enough to be comfy inside. Oh, and you'd be better off driving a stick/manual shift especially in Manila :)

if okey na sa iyo second hand ... go for the 1990-96 corollas or the 1994 - 96 na civic (yung bago mag vtec na model). tas, pa set-up mo na lang ... repaint, palit gulong/mags ... etc. etc. etc.
gusto mo post ka ulit ng topic "how to setup a car" tas mag post ako dun. or email mo ko then tulungan kita mag-ayos ng auto mo. diba, parang lalabas customize siya according sa gusto mo na porma.
pero if trip mo talga bago, yup, go for honda ... or try this other car. petite ka kamo, i'm sure bagay sa yo 'to ... try mo yung sa opel ... forgot what its called e pero parang echo din. tigra yata. post ulit ako pag naalala ko .... :)

try to find a contact within the delaership. what a friend of mine did was that he got insider information on how much was the Subara WRX invoice price. he got it through a friend. anyway, then what he did was that he went to the dealership then just tell the salesman that he know the invoice price and how much he's willing to sell it. he didn't like the first one coz its still high so he just jump from one salesman to another asking who's willing to give him the best deal. After much haggling, he got a price near the invoice price, and that's for a the 2002 model. just wanted to share that to you..

how much does the new galant VR cost?
both in manual and automatic transmission?
FAM01.02.01
Jul 9, 2001, 02:45 AM
After having the chance to try out a couple of cars my parents bought me for special birthdays, I'd recommend the new VW Beetle *okay*. Super funky looking, good handling, made to be driven my a woman (I'm talking about size - not difficult to park at all) and you can get some great add-on's for it. Admittedly the price can be a bit prohibitive (here it cost, with added extra's like my own choice of CD system and electronic mapping device, close to A$45k) but it's well worth it I think. The new Rav-4 is pretty cool as well but if you're short like me it can be a bit of a handful to drive and parking can be a little scarce for bigger cars.
If you want to go full throttle and sign your life away, a couple of friends have got new Lexus Coupes and one has just bought a new Audi...TOO DIE FOR!!!

The Galant VR comes only with an automatic transmission - the INVECS II. You can drive it like an automatic when you place it in the D position or you can shift it manually when you're in the self-shifting mode. I think the last time I saw a VR at a Mitsubishi dealer, it was pegged at a cool P1.3 million.
The VW New Beetle recommended by FAM01.02.01 is really to die for! I saw one in person last week at the one and only VW showroom here in Manila. It's really different from the Beetles bought by my dad in my childhood days. The body is even made of fiberglass/hard plastic! The price --- P1.72 M for the model with the sunroof and P1.68 M for the model without the sunroof. The VW New Beetle comes only with an automatic transmission.
I agree with FAM01.02.01. Those Lexus Coupes she's raving about are really to die for. Too bad Lexus has no plans of entering the Philippine market just yet. We have to contend with gray-market dealerships who might indent order a Lexus for a price.

actually, i would rather buy a mini-SUV and not a car...i think it's more practical esp. now that the rainy season is coming.
top 4 mini-SUV's that i would like to have:
1. BMW X5 (ang pogi mo dito!)
2. new CRV (not yet released, maybe in 2002)
3. Grand Vitara
4. new RAV4
