Let's talk about what you guys think why NU and Adamson are still winless.
Hey, I did not post this for silly, below the belt comments, huh.
Let's be objective about this topic, please.
Thanks and take care everyone. =)

I feel sorry for them. But I believe both teams have potentials. I heard from the UAAP commentators that NU has a very inexperienced team. Imagine, having 11 (I think!) freshmen on their team. It must be difficult for them. But I believe they are learning a lot and in a few years time, they'd be a team to look out for.

I think NU has three rookies: Gilbert Neo, Urbano and Santico.
You may say na they really lack experience, k'se nga most of the players are in their sophomore and junior year. Also, I think their coach, Mr. Manny Dandan is also new with the team, kaya they all have a lot of bonding to do.
Another point is that their plays are like focused sa kanilang star player na si Lordy Tugade. But, Lordy is like Ren-ren Ritualo na on-off ang game. Unlike before, with Danny Ildefonso, talagang he was delivering every game kaya it was just fine having him as the main character in their plays.
You know what, I have been witness to a lot of their games mainly because they are like my barkada. I mean the Bulldogs are my friends, most of them. And there are really good players in that lot. Check out these guys:
Romo Austria
Jason Cuevas
MaJian de Castro
Alfie Grijaldo
Jeff Napa
I really think they have something worth watching out for. After all, if Lordy can't deliver mail, these guys can chip in some news. And I am not saying this kse they are my friends. I have read their contributions in the newspapers and I think they can help to at least give NU a win.
As for Adamson, I really can't say a lot k'se nga I am not there to witness the games. But I do remember them having a cute player, Salvador ba yon, and he's not just cute, he also can deliver. Kaso, marami na atang nawala sa Adamson and mas marami ata silang rookies eh.

about NU, maybe they lack mental toughness when needed most. what a sorry lost to ust.
adamson, well its a great team but they lack the experience except for magsanoc n salvador, etc. but they'll be a team to beat in the years to come esp. with players around like layug n codamon.

Sonny Paguia is the listed coach of NU but Manny Dandan has been coaching at least since last year.
NU has some talent especially with Tugade there but I think like the previous posts, their mental toughness is the problem. They can't seem to get over the hump in tight matchups. Their nicknames the last few years have been "heartbreak kids" since they almost won so many games but folded in the end.
With ADU, they just don't have the firepower. Their players are decent especially that rookie Codamon, but pound for pound as a team, they have difficulty matching up with the bigger teams. I do like their "sparkplug" point guard in Eusebio.
These two teams still have to play each other so only one will be winless after the first round.
Peace.

WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME NU WON THE CHAMPIONSHIP(BASKETBALL)????
I've always admired NU's fighting heart. You'd think that with their status as the league's, excuse the term, "whipping boys", they should not field a basketball team anymore. But despite the weak line-ups they've had, they've managed to ambush UST and Ateneo in past seasons. If Danny Ildefonso were still playing (I think he would have been eligible for this year had he decided to stick around), a Final Four stint would not have been far-fetched.
As for Adamson, they were a team on the rise, so I felt really bad for them that their ranks were bled dry, mostly by the MBA teams. Imagine if guys like Ejercito, Laure, and Madrid were still there. Not only would they get more wins but they'd also be able to bolster their recruitment program.
So, what they need to do is recruit some Danny Ildefonsos and Gherome Ejercitos.

Adamson is going to be good. They just have to learn defense, though.
Codamon and Mamaclay are good cornerstones. These two, although rookies are playing like vets. That's good but what good will it do if your veterans are the ones playing like rookies? Jumbo Salvador comes to mind. He's a PBL vet and the only remnant of the 1995 buying binge (wc. included Ejercito, Laure and Madrid), yet he still commits boners that could only be done by inexperienced players. Sinasayang lang niya ang mga efforts ng teammates nya.
NU is a scrappy team. Pero they live and die with Lordy Tugade, who, like Kaboom said, eversince the departure of Danny I, is on and off. I guess he can't handle being a leader. Pero despite the fact na talunan sila, exciting pa rin sila panoorin unlike the NU of before.
To Mr. Sonny Paguia, why not give the team completely to Manny Dandan? Baka too many cooks spoil the broth ang kaso ng NU...

I do hope that NU and Adamson would field in more competitive players because as I see it, they are just competing just for the sake of participating. It is just so happen that they are members of the UAAP. NU was once a good team in the past and I do hope they could bring it back their glory days. Adamson was a powerhouse during the Marlou Aquino era, but violations regarding their recruitment schemes caused them to be suspended for a year. Since then, Adamson became one of the whipping boys of the league. I hope healthier competitions would surface as time goes on.

i think it was in the 1950's pa ... tagal na 'no. =)
also, nakakalito nga na they have two coaches, for NU. hindi kaya reason yon why the bulldogs are not as tough mentally, kse mind boggling yon for the players specially if the coaches would stir in different directions. i guess jacob was right about having so many cooks and spoiling the broth.
what i like about the bulldogs is their capability to surprise teams, like what they did last year specially when UST, UE and FEU badly needed wins for the final four slots. if only they could do that again this time...
as for adamson, bakit nga kung sino pa yung senior players, sila pa yung parang rookies? diba salvador was there for awhile na, and he seems to play like he is not as experienced.
