I'd prefer the term La Sallite to the former for some opinionated reasons. But first, let me ask you this question, what is the difference between a La Sallian and a La Sallite? A La Sallite carries the glory of La Salle's past while a La Sallian carries the disgrace of La Salle's eroding nobility and royalty...HAH!!!
Oh no, please don't dismember me for high treason!
Well, what I mean to say is that I think we are disrespecting the alumnis by the way we differentiate the two terms. (If you're really a student of La Salle, you'd dig what I'm saying). I'd prefer the term La Sallite because it makes me feel the responsiblity of keeping the name that our alumnis have built. It bears the tradition of years of excellence.

From Leo Prieto-Captain of the Green Archers in 1939 and also FIRST PBA Commissioner to Tito Eduque-Captain of the Green Archers in 1947 to Don Carlos Allado and Dino Aldeguer - La Sallian or a La Sallite will ALWAYS carry the inherent glamor of being a Green Archer which ONLY Ateneo can match.
As for the other schools- they simply do not have it.
ANIMO LA SALLE!!! KEEP THE REKTIKANO SPIRIT BURNING!!!

What brought about the change from "La Sallite" to "La Sallian" eniweiz?

There's a difference between the term "Lasallite" and "Lasallian."
The move to change the term into "Lasallian" dates back in the early 90's. During that time, almost all people regard La sallites as "elitists, uncaring individuals who are apathetic to the needs of society and protected by the high walls of their university." La Salle students were hardly seen in student rallies, and civic activities. This led the administration and the Student Council to form a committee that was tasked to change this elitist image of the La sallite into a socially-responsible Christian achiever. That is why the term "Lasallian" was introduced. And the university motto "Christian Achievers for God and Country" was re-launched along with the formation of various organizations aimed at immersing students of De La Salle University to socio-civic functions. And I am proud to say that this has changed a lot. There is a big difference now between La Sallites and Lasallians. Many student groups like COSCA-LUNSAD, Habitat, Mafia, Ley La Salle, and others, to name a few, have consistently been active in community affairs. Somehow, the elitist image of Lasallians is fading away, though we must admit that there is still some truth to this.

This is a bit of a confusing exchange, so let me try to shed some light on the La Sallite - La sallian tiff. Back when I was in high school ( I studied in La Salle Green Hills), the La Salle brothers coined the term, La Sallian, as a supposed new image that they were trying to carve for the students and alumni of La Salle. The Brothers were worried that the public's image of the La Salle student had been eroding, and that in order to uphold the original mission of St La Salle, they launched the La Sallian campaign to purge whatever conceptions the general public may have had.
So the La Sallian term actually originated from the Brothers of La Salle themselves. How can we now say that the term La Sallite is a disgrace to its Alumni when it was the school itself which perpetrated the entire terminology?
I just think that whether we use the term La Sallite or La Sallian is not a big deal. What matters more are the values the students and the Alumni uphold. Then, perhaps we will be worthy of the legacy of St John Baptist de La Salle.

My apologies to MAVI whose nick I accidentally used. It's me who started this La Sallian vs La Sallite Topic.
Before anything else, let me make it clear that I'm fully aware of how the term La Sallian replaced the term La Sallite in the early 90s.
You see my dear friends, the "eroding" image of La Salle students as unattached to the world and elitists will not be changed by shifting names from La Sallite to La Sallian. In the end, it's what we show to the world that will change that image. Do you think shifting names from Atenean to Atenites will change Ateneo's image as consistent losers of UAAP...OOPS!...just a friendly imagery. Hey c'mon, La Salle was the no. 1 loser and object of ridicule during the early years of the NCAA. Yes, as much as I hate to disclose to unpleasant information, Ateneo was actually beating the crap out of La Salle in NCAA yet the word La Sallite was so sweet to the ears of many. AND THIS IS EXACTLY MY POINT! We are blaming the eroding values of La Salle students to the term La Sallite when in fact our ALUMNI (than'x for the correction and pardon my unappreciated slang)made a name for La Salle which our present generation is enjoying right now. I don't hear a loud thunder when it comes to cheering during games anymore if were losing by a meazely 10 points. Back in NCAA when the La Salle student was still called a La Sallite, there was this game between against San Beda. According to witnesses, from outside Rizal Stadium, you'd think that La Salle was winning due to their loud cheering that the loudest thunder in history could'nt match. But when he went to see what was happening inside, he was surprised to see the score. San Beda was leading by 30 points!
In a nutshell, I'm not against the new term but let's be fair to our alumni who will forever be called a La Sallite. They live the same values, the same tradition but most important of all...pray the same words and lives Jesus in their hearts. I shall continue oh my God to do all my actions for the love of you...ANIMO LA SALLE!

It's really wonderful to hear (or read) that famous Lasallian prayer again....I'll write again if you don't mind...I just love this simple prayer, and let's complete what was written by The Saint.
I will continue
Oh my God
To do all my actions
For the love of You.
St. John Baptist De La Salle, Pray for us.
Live Jesus in our hearts, Forever!!!!

I'm an Atenean. I agree with what "The Saint " said. Going up against "la sallites" is what we Ateneans are used to. Totoo yung sinabi niya, people from La Salle were proud to be identified as "La Sallites." I guess like most of us writing here, I too feel very passionately about the rivalry. It's just that it feels different calling you guys la sallians.
By the way, regarding that comment about us always loosing... Ateneo just won!!!

A battle lost but not the war. That afternoon in office, where the department is a chemical reaction of Ateneans, La Sallites, and other schools...our manager announced the 3point victory of the Blue Eagles. Imagine the first victory of William Wallace in Brave Heart as Ateneo Alumni created a thunder...while imagine the eyes of Jerry Maguirre when he lost the no.1 draft pick Kushman as La Salle Alumni stared in shock.
I used to think that the La Salle-Ateneo rivalry was simply a glamour factory...but when I heard those victorious Ateneans, I knew it was for real. I guess what differs the La Salle-Ateneo rivalry is that it makes both institutions more than you can ever be...whether you win or lose. Unlike the recent La Salle-UST row where it began to fade away when the two stopped meeting in the championships. Kailangang sa championship maglaban para uminit yung game. Unlike the La Salle-Ateneo war where it continues beyond basketball to soccer, girls, office, until retirement! I'm amazed how retired alumni from both schools would become kids once more when they start reminiscing games.
Anyways, I think Ateneo is a strong team this year and has a good chance in reaching the finals...well, as long as it doesn't get to their heads (remember the 1996 campaign spearheaded by Gabby Cui and Tonichi Pinzon?) The problem with Ateneans is when they start losing games, instead of doing something about it...they resort to the century old excuse of "I'm still more intelligent than you". More intelligent maybe but not wiser. I guess this is what makes the typical La Sallite better than his archenemy. Perhaps, a dare to the sugar-coated blue school...see you in the final four! WE'LL BE WAITING!

I was in Zobel gradeschool highschool. Ang pagkakaintindi ko, a Lasallite is someone who studies in La Salle, a La Sallian is someone who lives the spirit of St. La Salle in his daily life, crap basta ganun. So parang I'm a former Lasallite, but I forever will be a Lasallian.

Back in college, we were taught that a Lasallite (not La Sallite) is someone who studues in La Salle, while a Lasallian (not La Sallian) is a Lasallite or former Lasallite that follows the core values of St. John Baptist De La Salle.
Animo La Salle, Indeed!

Unfortunately, Lasallite is perceived to be "La Salle elite" so it didn't quite sound and look good. For a lot of reasons. Hence, the change.
I was, am, and will always be, a Lasallian. Animo La Salle!!!

I think La Sallite refers more to the people studying in DLSU, while La Sallian refers to the followers of St. La Salle or the Christian Brothers. I don't know with you guys, I am an Atenean anyways!
PAX! :)
