Clinique lipsticks just does the job. My faves are their chubby sticks and superlast. What's yours? :)

clinique is not bad especially for beginners. I like their black honey almost lipstick. as for my favorite brand, I love MAC. They have the widest range in colors and textures. My current favorite is their lip lacquer line. I do know of some people who find MAC lipsticks making their lips chapped. to avoid that, always use lip balm. i've also heard praises for Estee Lauder and Chanel.

i like clinique...their "sweet honey", "butterscotch" & "black honey" (like tr|n|ty...:) )
but I LOVE mac talaga...i've been using this brand for about 6 years now...ever since 1st year college...:D
i love their shades (taupe-matte, sepia-matte, twig-satin, cosmo-cream, freeze-glossy, diva-matte) and how their lipsticks smell...:*)
Cosmo

Clinique's ok - i have Sweet Honey and it's a pretty shade and so is Chanel's infrarouge whisperlight lipstick (Nude).

Hey audrey! cha-ching!
I'm with trinity (hi grass:) )- MAC lacquer's my current fave too! Lately, I've been using lipgloss a lot and aside from MAC lacquer and lipglass, I like Stila lip polish in sheen and Bobbi Brown lipgloss in petal. They're all very natural, pretty shades! :beauty: But I don't think I'd buy another lip product from these 2 brands coz they're rather pricey :depressed: I'll stick w/ MAC na lang! As for lipsticks, I like MAC's Cosmo, Twig, Lame and O. They're a bit drying on the lips though. My cousin sent me Laura Mercier lipstick in apricot (?? - am not sure about the shade's name, don't have it w/ me right now) and so far, I'm liking it :)
Eto hatest ko - Maybelline's Wet and Shine! I was fooled by their great ads. Grabe ang panget! It doesn't even stay on my lips for more than an hour!

my fave's MAC. funny how winterswirl here mentioned my top 3 MAC colors, taupe, sepia, and twig. im just wondering, are they 3 of MAC's most sellable shades too? :|
i never had a prob with chapped lips when using MAC coz i always put on lip balm first before the lipstick. i don't think i could ever take putting on just lipstick alone.

Where you referring to Maybelline's Water Shine lipsticks? Kasi I bought that pero hindi naman ganun ka shiny like what they have in their ads....frosted type lang sya. I have the "Ginger Iced Tea" shade.

melrosegirl-MAC's lipglass and lip lacquer are great lipstick lines that make the lips look like they're wet. i extremely recommend the clear lipglass(the one in a different packaging) which can make any lipstick look very "wet".

How much for the MAClip lacquer and the lipglass? If i'm not mistaken, Canada makes MAC products di ba? Is it cheaper to buy them in the US or here in Manila?
Since I don't have the money to splurge on lipsticks...if I can only get one...what would you recommend--lip lacquer ot lipglass?

Jun 7, 2001, 11:25 PM
I love MAC lacquer and lipglass but if you only have to choose one - i'd go for lacquer! It lasts longer and has higher gloss finish than lipglass.
It is more expensive to buy MAC here in Pinas. I bought my lacquer in the States (it's cheaper in Canada) for $16 and my lipglass for $13. The last time I checked (at a robinson's dept store a month ago), the MAC counter didn't have any lacquers yet, but they're selling the lipglass (w/ only 2 shades to choose from) for Php950. Btw, shades to try for lacquer are Varneesh (brownish pink) and Acrylicka (reddish brown). And for lipglass - Prr(pale pale brownish pink), Oh Baby (bronze), Nico (pale lavender), Explicit and Lust. These are the shades that I have but they have more. Oh yeah, there's one drawback - they are sticky! Pag humangin and di nakatali hair mo, lagot ka
I was told that MAC will open a new counter - w/ a COMPLETE line - in Rustan's. Dunno which branch though!

i'd choose lip lacquer...i actually went crazy the first time they brought out lip lacquer over at the MAC counters. I simply love it. You can go from sweet to vampy in any of their colors..i particularly use varneesh if i just want a girl-next-door look.
Almay (mauve) - still the best!

i noticed it and was like "oh, does my gloss make me look classic and sexy, you know with the very wet look and stuff?"
he was like "that's lipstick?!! i thought you just ate a bucket of fried chicken!!".

Any Lipstick by Bath and Body Works and Body Shoppe , they moisturize and they also smell nice.
Whenever my wallet permits it, I use Lancome, Estee Lauder and Clinique. I like it when it moisturizes your lips, like you can wipe them off later on to find your lips soft and smooth.
Just basic suggestions, if you have that classic tan complexion, go for lipsticks with an orange undertone (brown or red). Lipsticks that has a bluish undertone is a definite no no! Lipsticks with pink and blue undertones goes best with lighter complexion.
Just want to share, most of you probably know this already. After applying the lipstick, stick a finger in your mouth then let your mouth close around it and slowly pull the finger out *forgive my dirty mind * The excess lipstick would make a ring around your finger, it keeps the lipstick from getting on your teeth.
Anyone seen the Wedding Planner? Remember tha liquid lipstick J-lo was using? Well, I found out that if you put on a regular lipstick then apply a liquid lipstick on top of that (provided the colors go well together) would have that sexy shimmer effect ;)

winterswirl-Shu Uemura is a high-end professional brand. I personally don't like his lipsticks..it's too skinny and lacks depth and character. Best bets from Shu are their eye shadows..great exquisite texture you will never see in other brands..even from MAC. I highly..HIGHLY recommend Shu's Eyelash Curler..I LOVE IT. PePs is also a convert with the curlash(buhay pa ba yung binili ko for you, lola?). Shu's Curlash is hands down THE BEST and LAST curlash you're going to use. It opens your eyes like no other..i was skeptical at first but i was thoroughly impressed since i don't have much of an eyelash  but yes, it did curl my eyelashes and it's really pretty..u can even skip the mascara. One of the must haves in any kikay kits...I usually just curl my eyelashes put a little mascara and dab some lip gloss on my lips and i'm done.

When I visited MAC's website last month, I actually submitted a question to their customer service forum :*) . I asked if they were planning to put up a counter here in Pinas...got a reply that said, "Good news, we're opening one in Rustan's Manila by June 1". So which Rustan's carries MAC?
Beauty Bar carries Tony and Tina - overpriced naman eh! As for VEX eyeshadow, i bought it coz i found the color unique and pretty - BUT, I've been having a difficult time applying it. Does it go on the lid? crease? - any recs trinity, cleva? :) Sorry, this is so off-topic.
tr|n|ty
Jun 30, 2001, 08:20 AM
novalee-since Vex is more of a frosty mix of silver/white..i use it as an 'eye-opener'. I usually fill out the lid with something dark..say concrete then i put a dab of something frosty, for example, Vex on the middle and mix it to lighten the color(best mixing tool is your finger!)...then i put little dabs of Vex on the corners of the eyes(preferrably the corners that are nearest to the nose)..this makes the eyes 'bigger' and more dramatic. the most popular use for frosty eyeshadow is using it just under the eyebrows.

k.r. - i don't think any lipgloss will last you all day (or even half the day) but MAC's lacquer stays on longer than any lipgloss I have tried - Chanel Glossimer, LeClerc, MAC lipglass, Bodyshop (this one's the worst by the way) and Stila lipglaze. The 2 lacquer shades that I have - Varneesh and Acrylicka will look good on anyone. My morena friend has a shade called Sheena and it looks great on her, so you might want to try that too :)
I also like Bobbi Brown's buff, fudge and petal lipgloss too - got em as gifts - the shades are really pretty!! =) Sh!t i sound like a lipgloss freak.

question-- how much is the shu uemura eyelash curler, i live in the

question 2- i am curious about the MAC lacquer-- you guys obviously think it rocks-- so what the heck, shempre ill try it. What color should I go for- im dark skinned and right now I use Almay Vintage Chianti (for the most part)-- and since it's summer I go for the "wet lips look" :beam:

Jul 8, 2001, 12:36 AM
Fan din ako nyang Shu's eyelash curler! That was the first thing I bought when I went to Sephora!
Anyway, my fave lipstick brands are:
Bobbi Brown- it stays for hours. I use the Soft Rose shade and when it's about to fade, it's still nice coz it leaves a stained, natural look.
Lorac- it feels light and not dry, doesn't feel like you're wearing lipstick . I use the coral shade Suzanne (their lipsticks are named after celebs who inspired the shades like Winona, Meg, etc.) Then I put the Body Shop natural tint lip gloss on top.
MAC- great quality for a more reasonable price compared to the previous two. MAC also has more shades to choose from. I use Spirit along with the must-have Spice lipliner. Sayang nga lang, I didn't buy the lipglass when I was in SF. :bonkself:
Stila- i use the lip polish in Twinkle, a nude shade that I think goes great when you want your look to be focused more on your eyes, para hindi naman over ang dating diba! I also like using the lipgloss in Gold Shine but I don't use it alone. I put it on top of whatever lipstick I'm using, applying it at the center of my lips for that luscious, 3-D effect! ;)
off-topic: Like ko rin yung MAC's cheek gel blush (Tokyo, I think is the name) but i opted to buy the Benefit's Benetint for that natural, flushed look. It can also be used for the lips din kase.

muggle-haha i think filipinos are often mistaken to be years younger than what they really are especially here in the States. I went to Atlantic City a couple of months ago and dealer at the Black Jack table thought i was just 15  I was wearing no make up whatsoever and i was wearing my ratty old grey sweatpants..i almost fell off the seat...let's just say i'm much older than 15 ;) Anyways, i haven't been to seattle since the early 90's!!!(oh yes, i used to be a big pearl jam groupie back in the day) so i wouldn't know where Shu Uemura products are found up there...i guess you can try Nordstrom's but pick the biggest or go where the rich people shop

I will definitely try Nordstrom, I usually shop there kase I have discount( haha!! of course I like to save when I can) I wouldn't know where the rich people shop though, maybe I'll ask that girl who cuts my hair, she's my makeup guru :)
hala, you haven't been to seattle since about ten years ago? Well the grunge thing has definitely died if you ask me, but hey it's still a a great city!! hehe, para na kong walking ad ng seattle..
and youre right sobrang nakakapikon when they think you're younger .. I even had someone ask me, sooo what grade are you in?? Tama ba naman yon???

That's what I also heard. !! 'Yon ang lipstick na gustong-gusto gamitin ng mga "Lalaking nangangarap maging GERL". Sorry drag queens - the natural beauty and charm of a real woman will never be compared to the "imitation".
I've tried Shu Uemura foundations (and lipsticks as well) but unfortunately, it's not made for the Manila humid seasons that we have even if you're based in Rockwell, Ortigas or Ayala Ave in Makati. For freezing European temperatures, they simply dry off in a matter of minutes and that doesn't have a nice feel for me. L'Oreal and Clinique has been the most reliable in those temperatures. :) Bad trip lang sa Clinique yung compact concealer e. Hanggang Europe lang talaga siya pwede. :(
Cuzz
Just one friendly tip if you're using Bodyshop lipshades - you just have to use it more often. With excess moisture, they tend to dry your lips off if you try to stop using it for weeks. It easily wears off.

Hiyee! Musta ka na? I dunno, but when I first tried the Lacquer MAC last April, it didn't mix well with my skin tone and lip chemistry. Lakas ko kasi mag-yosi e. Hehe. ;)

Maxfactor Lipfinity because you can wear it all day and even if you wipe your lips after eating, the lipstick is still intact, no need to retouch!

clinique and lancome, although with the latter, you have to put up with the rosy lola scent
it's hella better than revlon though, coz that just plain sucks.
i think the description 'lasang make-up' was coined with revlon in mind :yuck:

SEPHORA'S Glossy Lipstick, my favorite! there's no need for lip balms or lip gloss. it's a lipstick & gloss rolled in one. it doesn't make your lips too shiny or dry looking. at hindi rin magcha-chap ang lips mo after a few hours. tamang-tama lang sa mga pinoy gals... *okay*

Fashion21. Seriously. I was looking for a 'suicide' lipstick for an event lst year and they had this liquid lipstick that clung to your lips like a psycho ex-gf (ha?) and the shade was really maganda. The colour stayed true to my lips kahit na acidic ako. I got the bottle for Php60. While I was raving about it to my kikay friends, na-realize ko kung bakit sha Php60 lang: naka lagay sa bottle "Smadge-proof Lipstick."

I'm not fond of lipsticks and I'm one of those who'd rather go without them...But I do have some for some occasions and this is what I use...
MAC (makes my lips chap though, so I apply it lightly and sparingly not to mention it's heavy on the pocket)
Clinique (recently tried this and it feels great. I'm probably going to buy more of this)
Maybelline (I don't find it so bad but it doesn't stay that long however it is cheaper than MAC and Clinique)

After going through two tubes of Lipfinity, I've realized that it's really malapot, and feels thick and yucky on the lips.
Revlon Colorstay Lipshine is way better-it goes on smooth and even. But it's becoming harder and harder to find at the malls in Manila these days.

gosh, i use so many lip products that i can't keep track of them!!!
i used to have this really bad habit of picking at my lips til they bled [i'm not kidding...i must have a penchant for pain or something]
but since i realized that lipsticks look HORRIBLE on wounded lips [the product doesn't glide on easily], i resisted my urge and started using nivea lip repair. really works!
and now my fave lip products:
- petroleum jelly. the best for moisturizing and soothing.
- clinique fizzy. no matter how much i put on, it always looks just right. the color is a great dark brown with shimmery stuff in it.
- body shop duo lip gloss. although i'm partial to one end of it - the clear lip gloss. gives you a great i-just-drank-some-water wet look.
- this yummy choco-vanilla lip gloss from a makeup store in paris [forgot the name, it's probably not sold here.] it's so yummy-smelling, i want to eat it up!
- MAC lip liners, so easy to put on. and almost any shade of their lipstick.

Anyways...Shu Uemura is opening in October. Not September.
What I like about about Shu Uemura is their range of colors! They have ALL colors, and they don't seem to discontinue any. There's this particular shade of orange, that I have not found in any other lipstick line.
Still, their best product is their eyelash curler.

my lips have this own tendency to dry out kaya for me, the best one out there is LANCOME Rouge Absolu (Creme)! i use rose petale and the color really suits me. i got it from my aunt who lives in the US.
but above all, Primordiale Levres really got me hooked! Believe me, you won't ever need to wear a lipstick! This is the kind that you wear and makes you feel really sexy! Try it out sa rustan's shangri la! Promise! No exaggeration!

I have this - and it is a very 'your-lips-but-better' color. - nice.
my fave right now is Chanel Hydrabse Lipstick in #11 Sirene.
it looks very bright purple-y, fushia, boungavilla(sp?) like in the tube - but when put on - OMG!! it's a gorgeous 'natural-pink-lips' color that flashes gold - absolutely BEAUTIFUL... *okay* part of Chanel's Fall 2002 color story.
I like this so much I bought another one for back-up. :)
