sorry i had to reply in this thread. close na kasi yung isa (and thankfully so).

if you did reach the pmo nationals, then i sincerely think you're good in math in one way or another. now if it just so happens that your bad experience in math is attributed to dra de las penas, then i think hindi good gauge yun.

as far as entrance tests are concerned, baka sa time mo acet ang easiest. but during my time, it was the hardest.

anyway, i would just like to say na feeling ko di ka naman talaga bobo in math. baka bad experience in college or something. i don't know. i just wish you the best. good luck!

katelim,

I think Melpomene was being sarcastic with her remarks only. Don't take it literally.

She's actually a math wiz and aced the other entrance exams.

As far as her remarks about the math teacher are concerned, I think she meant it.

My opinion only. I can be wrong.

The Asiaweek survey is not nearly as accurate or comprehensive as the one conducted annually by the US News and World Report rankings of US colleges and universities. For one, it does not include student/faculty ratio, the number of PhDs teaching, what the high school ranks were of admitted freshmen, and the number of full time/part time professors. Some prominent Asian universities decline to be part of this survey precisely because of these and other factors.

I wouldn't take the survey that seriously.

I do.

I hope UST surpasses Ateneo soon in the Asiaweek rankings.

I don't. I certainly share Deep Blue's opinion. The best way to see the competitiveness of a university is by looking at its students. Some people are making such a big fuzz about this survey; I just hope that it's not their way of trying to regain long lost glory. I've seen and talked with students of one of these universities, and wow, I can't believe that their school deserves to be among the country's top universities. Coz whether one school is on top of another doesn't really matter. What's important is the way how a graduate projects himself/herself and show that his/her university is indeed among the best. After all, it's only Asiaweek that determines the criteria and the weights per category.

Honestly, I didn't want to respond to this thread anymore, coz this is like old music already.

Could we have some other sensible topics please?

the asia week survay changes its standards year after year, it's still being perfected. so the rankings have to be taken with a grain of salt because they are fundamentally different from the rankings used the in the previous years. other than that the number of participating schools also change year after year.

the rankings also stress resources which richer asian countries enjoy and thus you will notice they are the ones at the top. but one area where all Philippine universities should improve on is research by the faculty, academic papers published in journals are a factor in this survey. these papers constitute what the survey calls its ability to produce new knowledge. we cannot compete against resources but we sure are on even ground when it comes to academic research.

too bad for the ateneans they've been beaten by la salle, they have such a "down from the hill" mentality pa naman. trust me i spent my childhood in ateneo and you develop an insular mentality. feeling mo lahat bobo at saka mahirap you just have to "go down from the hill" in a supreme act of generosity and humility.

anyway i doubt if any private school can beat up anytime soon, kaso tuition ng up parang nagiging private school na rin e.

The new list is not out yet so brace yourself for a hotter debate when its out!

Wether its true or not, it still boosts the ego of those Universities on top of each Country Listing.:)
