I have long natural curls. I used to have them straightened, but I feel all the chemical has done a lot of damage. So I decided to go for a more "natural" look the past year or two. I prefer them long, pero they tend to look "buhaghag". For those who are born with kinky hair, how do you manage them?

kinky as in fecility kinky? lucky you!

don't have it straightened coz aside from the damage it causes, it's not really a celebration of who you are. :)

try an anti-fizz product first. this removes the sponghada look. one of the cheap ones is from LA Looks. you could also try some of the more upscale products like paul mitchell, TIGI and sebastian.

for styling, you can use molding mud, gel wax, or any texturizer to get the 'chunky' look.

enjoy!

Yup... Felicity-kinky! But somehow, I don't feel very lucky about it. Thanks for the suggestions, I'll try them! :)

We kinda share the same problem, I have wavy hair. I use mousse to style my hair, well not really to style, but just to hold it still  A friend told me that Body Shop offers an anti-fizz product which works. I think it's worth a try.

Hope you find the product that suits you :)

I don't have wavy or curly hair, but I love fixing my friends' hair. I don't know pero I'm really amazed how salon people make hair look great. I've done some techniques that worked for my friends. here they are:

1.Try John Frieda Anti-Frizz serum. I think you can get it at PCX or Rustan's.
2. Don't use mousse. It's designed to give volume to limp hair.
3. If you don't want the curly strands popping out like worms, a cheap, but effective alternative is leave-on hair conditioner like Suave, Ascend and the like. This will even give a nice bounce to those gorgeous curls.
4. If you want to blow-dry it straight, apply an anti-frizz serum first.
5. Another technique to straighten it slick is to use a straightening iron. A good brand is ConAir. If it's not available here, ask your relatives in the US to send you one. I tried it on my friend who has stubborn curls and it worked!.
6. Also try those intensive conditioning treatments. PCX and Beauty Bar has a smorgasbord of them. Check out those that suit your hair type. Those treatments work also.

HAPPY MANE TAMING! ;)

I too have curly hair and I know exactly how you feel...I use for Bed Head Anti Frizz, it works really good...And when I straighten my hair, I use coconut oil for the ends to prevent it from splitting and it also makes your hair real shiny.

But in my case the hair starts to loop around the front... how do you call it? 'bangs'?

After washing your hair, towel dry until just damp, then blow dry while brushing. :)

i don't have curly hair but my daughter does. from experience, you don't really need those expensive products to tame curly hair--you just need to know how to work it.
i just use an anti-frizz serum. most of the time, if i don't have the anti-frizz stuff, i mix gel (any gel) with baby oil (ease up on the baby oil just enough to break down the gel so it's not as clumpy or sticky and if you have the cheap-o gel it won't flake). make sure you apply this while your hair is wet. blow dry hair with head upside down.
