Who here has taken the GRE? (Graduate Record Examination) The registration process seems a bit confusing. Apparently I have to call Malaysia and schedule for a test center here. Anyone who's been through the process?
And anyone have tips for the test?

Is the GRE in UP Diliman computer-based or written?

Did you receive your GRE packet from ETS in Princeton, New Jersey? It should have a list of testing centers and the exam dates there. Your other option is to visit Thomas Jefferson Library in Buendia. They have all the info there; they probably even have review materials there.
The only tip I could give you is-- tackle first the area/s you're good at. That should give you enough time to deal with the less palatable ones. :D
Good luck!

Hi now brownpau!
Yeah, I've been through the process. The general GRE (composed of three parts: Verbal, Analytical, Quantitative) is computer-based. You have to call Sylvan Learning Systems in Malaysia: 60-3-467-8610 to schedule the test. You need a credit card to pay for it, though. The only test center I know of is Ateneo Grad something at H.V. dela Costa St., Makati (near Ayala ave) (this is also where you take the TOEFL).
The total of each section is over 800. Cumulative scores (verbal + quantitative) above 1250 are considered competitive in most grad schools in the states.
The questions aren't really hard, they just require a lot of time so practice is necessary to get a high score. They have sample exams at http://www.gre.org so swing by the site if you have time.
There's also a paper-based subject GRE (to test proficiency in your undergrad course, eg. Molec Bio, Bio, Chem, CompSci, Econ, Eng'g, Geo, Lit, Math, Music, Phys, Psych) which is required by some schools. You can schedule this online at http://www.gre.org. There are only 3 test dates in a year: April, November, December. They then send you a packet (yes, from Princeton, NJ) with your exam sched and test center (almost invariably at Vinzon's Hall in UPDiliman if you're based in Manila). The number of items varies with the subject but you're given 3 hrs to complete it ata.
phantom's tip only works with the gre subject. I don't think you can go back to the questions you skipped sa computer based gre (which is unfortunately the only option available here). The advantage of CBT is that you'll get your scores on the day itself.
Be warned: Test prices are pre-tty steep --> (as of 2000-2001 bulletin) $125 for the general test and $150 for the subject test.
Good luck!! I actually have a reviewer so if you really need one, you're welcome to photocopy mine. ;)

Thanks for the info, folks. I've already downloaded the sample test from GRE.ORG and tried some free online reviewers.
