The Foundation for Information Technology Education and Development (FIT-ED) was established to increase ICT awareness in the Philippines and to help enable Philippine society to become relevant players in the Information Age. In line with these objectives FIT-ED hopes to contribute to original research and studies on the Philippine ICT environment, with a view to proper policy advocacy based on the needs of Philippine small and medium-scale enterprises (SMEs) in the technology sector. The first step towards this goal is to build a profile of SMEs in technology in the Philippines.
FIT-ED believes that technology SMEs can provide the country's competitive advantage in the Information Age, owing to Filipino creativity and entrepreneurial dynamism. Other studies have focused on exporters and manufacturers of electronics and other hardware, but an emerging sector seems to be software and content development. This notion, however, needs to be validated. At present, there really is no definitive compilation, directory, or statistics on the number or makeup of SMEs in technology in the Philippines.
This survey may be a crude beginning towards credible statistics and profiling, but a beginning nonetheless. FIT-ED is also planning a conference/workshop and other activities on Philippine SMEs in the technology sector, with a view to building linkages between these tech SMEs and national policymakers, as well as possible funders, and putting forth policy recommendations for the growth of this sector. We hope that the results of the tech SME survey and the ensuing activities can lead to better analyses and statistics on SMEs in technology, and perhaps the beginning of an ICT resource-type directory handled by the non-profit sector or educational institutions. We hope you will help us in our endeavor by participating in this survey.
Rest assured that all information will be kept confidential and used only for purposes of this study. Information will not be sold to or shared with marketers and other parties. Please don't hesitate to e-mail us at Bots@equitable.equicom.com or info@fit-ed.org if you have any questions or further interests in participating in a case study that we hope to conduct with the Asian Institute of Management. Thank you for your cooperation and assistance!
