To eliminate bias, tanggalin ko FEU sa faves ko.

UP kasi kakaiba, UST, very bold stunts, then Ateneo. Although yung guys ng Ateneo mga barako, parang mga di makatalon, pero overall impressive ang performance nila. Yung sa Adamson maganda rin.

FEU sa totoo muntikan na naman, although well organized and very clean saka maganda sa mata ang delivery, medyo safe and conservative ang stunts. So bolder stunts FEU CS, kaya nyo yan!

I was also impressed with Adamsons' performance. Konting brush up na lang sa synchronization, pero overall maganda. :)

Of course, I'm excited to see UST SDT's performance. Nandiyan lagi ang tinatawag nilang Thomasian Spirit when they perform ;)

FEU will surely give us their best performance since they are the hosts this season.

ADMU's strength is their gymnastic skills. Their almost clean performance last year made me think that they should've been in the top 3. I have high hopes for the BBB. ;)

Although sana lang may matangal na sa top 3 this year. Mag iisang decade na yata UP-UST-FEU ang naglalaban sa top 3. I've seen a lot of improvements from ADU, ADMU pero still not enough.

IMHO, I'm rooting for UP. Based from their performance on the 3rd CAIO, their skills are really up the notch, plus they always bring something new every competition. I'm pretty sure they will have more UPgrades on their stunts, tosses, pyramids and gymnastics come September. Also, UP still has a pretty solid line up, only a few will be leaving the squad plus the recruits have pretty good skills based on off season performances. But they also need to really polish their routine coz as we all know cleanliness could be make or break for a squad.

But I still don't disregard UST, always a major contender for the title. Their grace and poise plus an almost flawless routine always bring them to the top 3. It's hard to predict for UST-SDT this early because they rarely have off-season performances as a cheerdance squad. We don't have an idea on their progress so they may surprise us this season. Maybe their young and rebuilding squad is training hard for the past months and is prepared to give us a shock this September.

Also, based on their NCC stints, FEU, ADMU, AdU and DLSU have shown great improvements in their skills - in terms of variety and difficulty of tosses, stability and difficulty of pyramids, lifts and stunts and gymnastic skills.

Going back to the topic...

I think the UP Pep Squad will be able to defend their title.

FEU Cheering Squad is a big contender for the title..
it's their first time to join NCC in 2009 yet they were able to get the highest position among other UAAP Schools who joined the NCC 09..
my alma mater's pep squad having the lowest ranking (14th)

and let's not forget the UST SDT which is also a big contender for the title..
considering that they have the most number of titles in UAAP CDC.

2nd to 3rd place will be a tight battle between UST, ADMU and DLSU.

my alma mater's varsity pep squad.. the Adamson Pep Squad..
ayoko muna magexpect na makakapasok na sila finally sa TOP 3..
but who knows? maybe they are preparing something that will SURPRISE the crowd with their breathtaking stunts once again.

if U.P. can accomplish a clean routine, no doubt, they can have a three-peat this year. On the other hand, I think U.S.T. is working hard to elevate their stunts and further developed ther best asset which is sync. no offense-meant, pero for the past two years, kinulang talaga sa wow factor ang gawi, their 2006 routine is still my favorite though...sa ibang squad naman, kulang ang Ateneo sa concept, masyadong old school kahit okay yung mga tosses and pyramids...FEU is doing good also base sa NCC routine nila...lastly, I do believe na dapat na ring i-upgrade ng mga UAAP sqauds ang quality ng mga tumbling...so far U.P. pa rin ang best for me when it comes to this category...

i agree that the University of the Philippines Pep Squad is indeed the Best UAAP Pep Squad right now..

after the UP Pep Squad.. I believe that the FEU Cheering Squad has successfully got very very close to the LEVEL of the UP Pep Squad.

the ADMU Blue Babble Batallion is the BIGGEST Threat among the improving pep squads of the UAAP.

of course i won't count out the UST Salinggawi Dance Troupe..
we don't know.. maybe they're already preparing now..
and they are up to bring back the title to Espana.

as for other pep squads.. DLSU Animo Squad will also be a BIG Threat as they've shown solid routine in NCC 09.

FEARLESS FORECAST :

1. UP - just watch their performance in the 3rd Asian Cheerleading.
2. FEU - biggest threat I guess, look at their NCC videos, they almost move like UP already in a good way because they still manage to present that they are FEU.

3. ADMU - Improvements on their Gymnastics and Pyramids were really great! I guess they can make it to the Top 3.

4. AdU - Kulang lang sa Synchronization. Biggest asset is pyramids and stunts!
5. UST - Sila ang tingin ko na pababa ang performance. While watching Cheermania 2009 and their 2008 CDC Performance is quite dissappointing plus I've heard puro rookies sila this year, so not too much expectations ako sa kanila. And hindi rin sila lumalabas sa ibang compe unlike what FEU and UP are doing kaya sobrang improvements sila.

Ako rin. Sana maiba naman ang top 3 this year.

Ateneo and Adamson, IMO, outperformed UST and FEU last year. I liked UST's much-maligned 2007 routine, but last year's was not that good. It lacked difficulty, especially in partner stunts, and it did not have the sharpness of previous SDT routines. FEU, as usual, put style over substance. Sana this year they strip down their routine at tanggalin na nila yung mga pa-gimmick nila because it cheapens the routine. They're obviously a talented squad, di lang masyadong maganda yung choreo at concept nila last year.

For Adamson to break into the top 3, dapat maganda lang execution nila, kasi last year may mga mali mali pa. Maganda yung routine (it was a winning routine, IMO) pero yung execution medyo sablay, medyo kalat.

For Ateneo, I'd like to see even more difficult partner stunts. Malamang di pa mangyayari, but I'd like to see Ateneo be the first school to do rewinds and full ups. Their guys are really good partner stunters, probably the best in the UAAP. Dapat dun sila mag focus dahil dun sila magaling. Also, more interesting pyramids and more interesting transitions (I liked the pyramid that they did in their NCC routine. Medyo sumablay nga lang. But they're obviously moving in the right direction).

UST will still be one to watch come September though. But if UP performs their routine without any mistakes (and that's a big IF, because execution is UP's weakness), then a three-peat will be very likely.

I'm quite excited with Gawi's improvement this year; stunts, tosses, and tumblings...enough of the zigzag pyramid that they did thrice last year...the chinaman pyramid was indeed a breath of fresh air for the fans...grace, no doubt, they still have it...On the other hand, UP Pep should perfect their execution, their 2007 routine was almost perfect...if not for the early disembark move of one of the ladies during the swedish fall stunt...their performance during the last Cheerleading Asia is a proof that they are still the team to beat this year...based on hearsays, a double full twist is possible this year...last year, i wrote that adamson in my opinoion should at least penetrate the top 3 spot, reviewing the performance, I now believe that they deserve to be on their original position which is 5th place if I am not mistaken...they lack sync and sharpness...but in terms on improvement Adamson is the emerging powerhouse I believe together with Ateneo Babble...Going back to UP, I am rooting for a perfect execution this year...and for Gawi...the only way is to go up...:bop: :bop: :bop:

I'm still supporting SDT this year, for sure may surprise uli sila, malay natin magimprove na sila at makapagtrain sila ng protege ni Jem at Marvin (2 gymnasts ng SDT) at makuha nila yung tempo nila in terms of stunting and gymnastics from the last time na nagchampion sila.
Sabi ko nga sa mga nakaraang taon, as long as magawa nila ng maayos ang routine nila, okay na sa akin yun.

As with UP, acknowledge din na medyo gamay na nila yung stunting at transitions, execution lang talaga.

As with AdU, based on their NCC routine, they have potential pero ang dadale talaga sa kanila ay yung partner stunts at gymnastics.

FEU with ADMU and DLSU, hindi nawawala iyan sa talents, concept at coherence ng routine ang kailangan nilang pagtuunan ng pansin.

Wala ako balita sa UE at NU, tahimik sila as of today.

Maganda sana mag-assume base sa halftime pero hindi accurate lagi.
For this year, maganda kung magpapadala din mga squads ng crowd tapes on how they boost morale, lead the crowd during games, yung pep rally, at yung score dun idadagdag sa score nila ala UCA.

Im still hoping for our Pep Squad (UE) na makasabay this time sa top 3 squads (which is UP,UST and FEU). Hindi pa naman ako nawawalan ng pag-asa. I heard na magbabago na yata ng style ang UE Pep this coming CDC. That's a good thing na pipilitin nilang makasabay sa top 3. Im not denying na these 3 squads are the best. Anyways, im expecting a healthy competition.

Regarding DLSU, Animo Squad parin ba ang nakahilera for competition ngayon? Nung NCC kasi, parang old DLSU pep ang members ang mga nakita ko. BTW, may lalaki silang flyer na marunong maglay-out.

Nung naging DLSU animo squad sila, nagkaroon ng dalawang group. DLSU Animo Squad White iyong combination ng LSDC street, jazz at pep. sila ang sasali sa mga cheerdance competition. Though nung 08 CDC pa lang ang nasasalihan nila.

Ang DLSU Animo Squad Green naman *** naging official name ng DLSU pep squad. sila ang bahala sa halftime at mga cheerleading competition. sila *** nasa NCC.

Mas maganda nga kung pep squad na lang ulit. mas gusto ko sila magperform. kasi maganda naman *** 2007 routine nila, marami lang mali, pero maganda talaga.

well kung totoo man to' it will not give a good impact to the UAAP community, its a clear "pambababoy" sa event, why? its a wrong avenue to create a propaganda to this wholesome event, we know guys you have this so called "sentiments" na ilang dekada na rin pinaglalaban o nilalako sa mga estudyante pero i think voice is something that is not potent anymore...its more of an act na gumawa kayo ng makakabuti kaysa magreklamo...tingnan nyo ang baywalk bodies mas may impact, one time lang yun ha :D

I was. My graduation. The University graduation where students with latin honors are awarded by UP. You make it sound as if the whole ceremony was ruined. Honestly, I think it was part of the program, though it wasn't written. If you look far back, that is the stage. And on the stage was President Emerlinda Roman and other high officials. They didn't say a word. I also particularly remember some faculty and staff joining. Also take into account that this was about the time when UP and other big universities made their stand about national affairs. You have to know the inner workings of UP before you make a comment. Thank you.

I wouldn't have my graduation any other way.

And oh, just last week, I passed by Katipunan and I saw students from Ateneo and Miriam conducting a rally against con-***, stopping passing jeepneys and encouraging them to honk in support. ;)

I heard they placed 3rd out of 6 countries (this is the category where Japan didn't participate). 1st in regulation category (I have no idea what this is) and 7th (last?!) in some... other category.

Regarding CIAO in Japan, they placed 3rd in the International category (Chinese Taipei, Thailand, Philippines, Singapore, Indonesia, China (2 teams) so 6 countries Japan not included but China had 2 teams so all in all 3rd out of 7 teams. 1st place in the regulation category ( all motion sequences without the stunts) SSA was the representative in the all female category.

for me, the possible ranking of the teams this CDC 2009 is:

1-4 UP, UST, FEU and Ateneo

Ateneo is showing a lot of potential and they are becoming one of the teams that could give the perennial top three a run for their money. Ateneo vastly improved in gymnastics and choreography. As usual, UP, UST and FEU are top contenders. however, there will be no assurance that a 3-peat will happen or a regain of the crown.

5 Adamson, DLSU

Adamson is one of the stronger teams in the league. however, there are small details that should be corrected for them to contend for the title. the music mix has been bothering me for years. also, execution of various stunts and choreography must be polished for a routine better than those they've performed in the past. As for DLSU, i don't know. they've been on a total recession. their last strongest performance, for me, is way back in 2005. maybe the NCC exposure could help them regain some lost pride.

7-8 UE, NU

NU was the most improved squad last year. i hope that they could improve more from the support that they are getting from their new administrators. as for UE, i just don't know. i hope that they will perform something new. :D

Cheerleading safety efforts have led to modest reductions in the number of serious injuries in recent years, according to a new report about college and high school sports and cheerleading mishaps.


But cheerleading continues to cause more serious and deadly injuries by far than other sports.


Researchers have long known how dangerous cheerleading is, but records were poorly kept until recently. An update to the record-keeping system last year found that between 1982 and 2007, there were 103 fatal, disabling or serious injuries recorded among female high school athletes, with the vast majority (67) occurring in cheerleading. The next most dangerous sports: gymnastics (nine such injuries) and track (seven).


Today, the National Center for Catastrophic Sports Injury Research at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill released its 26th annual report on the topic. The latest figures are from the 2007-2008 academic year for college and high school sports, male and female. The report defines catastrophic injuries as any severe or fatal injury incurred during participation in the sport.


The new numbers are for the 26-year period from the fall of 1982 through the spring of 2008:

There were 1,116 direct catastrophic injuries in high school (905) and college sports (211).
High school sports were associated with 152 fatalities, 379 non-fatal injuries and 374 serious injuries. College sports accounted for 22 fatalities, 63 non-fatal injuries and 126 serious injuries.
Cheerleading accounted for 65.2 percent of high school and 70.5 percent of college catastrophic injuries among all female sports.

The number of cheerleading injuries fell slightly in the 2007-08 academic year.


"Progress has been slow, but there has been an increased emphasis on cheerleading safety," said the study's author Frederick O. Mueller. "Continued data collection on all types of cheerleading injuries will hopefully show that these safety measures are working to reduce injuries."

2008 - yung isang school lang nagsasabi na may dayaan at yung six other teams ay bilib sa UP at sinasabi pang deserving talaga.
