View Full Version : Favorite OPM Band

gerbsdecastro

I have been noticing na puro ata foreign touches ang nasa site na ito. Well, now can you give me your favorite band/s in the pinoy scene?
My favorite bands are Truefaith and the Neocolours. For me, Truefaith is the best one for me nowadays since all of their songs are composed by themselves. They don't create hit songs coming from other artists (revival ika nga). Keep the Faith !!!

Side A, Apo Hiking Society and The Company. My favorite OPM band ever and perhaps the most talented ever is the Circus Band led by Atek Jacinto.

I love True Faith as well. Since their first major hit, Perfect, came out some years back, I've been hooked to their brand of music. I think that Free Style is also pretty good. It's too bad that I'm a bit lost now in the local scene coz I'm not too familar anymore with the performing bands.

Ada

Passage, Side A, Great Divide, First Circle, and that band that performs in EK every Sunday.

I really think that Jett Pangan's former group, The Dawn is one of our local bands who have made a unique distinction in their own right without copying songs from others.

The only Filipino bands that matter are Tame the Tikbalang and Empty.

true fatih is an awesomw band, but they haven't come out with anything new in---years, i think. sayang sila.
the bands that matter to me now are mostly part of the underground scene, although some have begun going mainstream na rin. here goes:
sandwich
greyhoundz
cheese
garlic
imago
ciudad
brownbeat all stars
and mOYG

the older, more established group would be composed of:
the eheads- for all they've done for the pinoy rock scene and pinoy rock music
razorback, jun lopito and the bodhissatvas (no one plays the blues like lopito), and color it red

Release! Hahaha!
Among the bands with recording contracts (hint, hint), I think Indio I (great reggae sound), Side A, and the Apo stand out.

For me, Freestyle reigns! And Release is definitely a band to look out for!

Aragorn

The great Pinoy acts for me are:

The APO
Side A
Parokya ni Edgar
The Dawn
Passage
Da Pulis (they're really funny!)

As an Atenean who has seen a ton of their live performances, I'd have to include SAM and Reverse!

A lot of our solo artists are great, too. Martin Nievera, Lea Salonga, Regine Velazquez, Bong Gabriel...etc. The album Manila Sound deserves special mention.

In terms of instrument-playing skills and originality in compositions, i'd go for:
South Border
P.O.T.
RiverMaya

my all-time favorite local band: Side A

the original True Faith was good, same with the original DV-8; P.O.T.'s mean funky tunes are good too; and Pido & any band he's jamming with.

The Rock
Sep 20, 1999, 10:09 PM
The Rock says that when you're in the mood for senti-tripping, Side A is still the king. South Border kicks it with their R&B repertoir and adding Luke Mijares made them a more energetic band. Groove is the undisputed best in 70s music. They don't just wear clothes from the 70s, their interpretation of songs by The Stylistics, the BeeGees, VST & Co., and Hotdog are dead-on. It's unfortunate that the original DV8 split up, Michelle Gallaga was really hot! They also had a great "Dancing Queen" by ABBA because they also had two female vocalists. ArtStart split up around five years ago. their lead singer Pido now has Pido and Take One as his band. The Rock would also like to give a vote to FreeVerse. They're a relatively new band and some might say they sound very Side A-ish but The Rock found out from lead singer Ryan Ortiz that they're doing some research in broadening their repertoire to distinguish themselves from Side A. P.O.T. are definitely the funkmeisters of today. Parokya ni Edgar and the Eraserheads are already known throughout Southeast Asia and trying to make a name outside the continent.

what's wrong with you guys? i can't believe not one of you ever mentioned KULAY...duh! i think they're great. i've been here in the states for four years now and their music takes me back home each time i listen to them. their references to the pinoy lifestyle and culture is refreshing- like in their song "balikbayan" and "origin of flip-hop". their flava rules!

I'm a live band watcher. Minsan iba naman pag makita mo magperform live and pag marinig mo on the radio or sa album nila. My list:

WISEGUYS (pop r&b, acapella...galing sila magperform...galing ng voicing but their album is pretty cheesy)

FREEVERSE (ala side a nga but i like their songs better. mas may dating sa akin esp. "surrender" which is one of my favorites. galing din sila magperform)

FREESTYLE (great originals! walang hindi naghit! but i didn't really enjoy their live performance because the rest of the songs sa repertoire nila hindi mashado ok for me)

RELEASE (loyal! hehehe... they're good)

KULAY (my gosh! what can i say?! international caliber! Rhada is so pretty!)
