MANILA, Philippines – League newcomer Emilio Aguinaldo College is hoping for an ace up its sleeve in African import Romeo Fortue.

Fortue, who hails from Cameroon, is expected to be a force for the Generals, entering next NCAA season as one of three guest schools along with Arellano University and Angeles University Foundation.

EAC coach Gino Manuel said Fortue may lead the team in its maiden stint in the NCAA.

“We are a young team, though, and need to learn a lot more things,” Manuel said in Filipino.

Fortue, who wears jersey # 11, plays shooting guard for the Generals and has good outside range. Joining him in the backcourt are Argel Mendoza and Jay Santos.

“We are currently in the final stages of our preparation (for next season),” said Manuel, noting his team trains six days a week as it prepares for the tournament, which kicks off June 27.

“We do skills training in the mornings and work on ‘team concept’ in the afternoon,” Manuel told INQUIRER,net in an interview.

The Generals saw action in the Nike Summer League but did not make it past the elimination rounds.

Here's the question, if the rules regarding foreign players in teams require 2 years of residency, did EAC comply with this rule and informed the Policy Board regarding their african player?

^ There is a screening process wherein all teams submit their line-up together with the credentials of all their players to weed out the fake students and other undesirables.

So is it confirmed that the foreign student stayed with EAC for two years prior to suiting up for the team and just in time for their guest stint in the NCAA?

Last year lang dumating si Fortue for EAC. So, that means he already has a one-year of residency under his belt.

Last year (Season 84), was the last year that the NCAA has applied the one-year residency for foreign students. Among them were Sudan Daniels of SBC and Etame Joe of JRU.

So, pwedeng pumasok si Fortue dito.

This coming Season 85, those foreign students who will enroll would have to undergo a 2-year residency.

Hmmm, so the first ruling regarding foreign players is that they must undergo one year of residency correct?

And then this coming season 85, they amended the rule by adding another year to the residency?

Before it was only a one year residency. And the last batch of foreign students to avail of this was Daniels (SBC) and Joe (JRU). They enrolled last year.

Starting Season 85 or school year 2009-2010, the residency for foreign students entering the NCAA will be 2-years.

Sigh, that's why I've been meaning to ask anyone here if they have a copy of our mutating rulebook!

Diyan sa "case to case basis" tayo nagkakagulo. One fine example is the uniform issue last season. They should at least specify certain rules so as to avoid controversies. And we're not even talking about sanctions that are also under the category of "case to case basis". ;)
