MANILA, Philippines - The Ateneo Blue Eagles hope to bounce back in Wednesday’s resumption of the 2nd Filoil Flying V Pre-Season Invitational Cup at The Arena in San Juan, according to a league statement issued on Tuesday.

The Blue Eagles bowed to last year’s finalist San Beda College, 70-61, in one of Sunday’s opening matches and will try to get back its winning form when it meets the University of Perpetual Help Altas.

In another game, the Jose Rizal University Bulldogs will meet University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons, who will play under new head coach Aboy Castro.

Castro replaced Joe Lipa as UP head coach after the Fighting Maroons’ finished last year’s UAAP season without a win in 14 matches.

The University of Perpetual Help Altas snatched a win today over Manila Doctors, 120-57 in the Nike Summer League and force a knockout match on May 21, 2009 against FEATI for the number 2 seed in Group B.

The Las Pinas-based UPHSD Altas came out strong as early as the 1st quarter by drowning Manila Doctors with a 42-point scoring blitz.


At the half, the Altas has established a commanding 36 point lead. The Altas will have a chance to clinch the last quarterfinals slot in Group B.

Nat Salanga led the team with 17 points and 3 rebounds. Dean Marchadesh paced Manila Doctors with 15-points.

galing ng altalettes ah. from whipping boys to legit semis contender.

the Altalettes are on the verge of probably their first semis berth in history. they will play JRU for the #4 seed to face LC in the semis. Perps lost close to JRU in the 1st round but whipped them in the second. If they do beat JRU, the Perps had a close games vs. LC in the elims so they'll have an outside chance of qualifying to perhaps their first juniors finals ever.

Whatever happened to this team? May nakuha bang recruits from the south?

we are the champion in juniors division of volleyball while the men's and women's division of Altas managed to enter the final 4! not bad at all. next year, babawi ang Perpetual! medyo minalas lang sa tie-breaker ng SSC-CSB-UPH with a 2-1 record. Sa Jrs basketball naman, although talo sa JRU, at least nagkaroon ng chance ang Perps na mag-tie sa kanila at possibility of entering the Final 4! Sana next year ang Seniors basketball naman ang mag improve under coach Boris Aldeguer. Dapat kunin nila si Alolino, Jolangcob at Eriobu ng Altalettes pagka-graduate nila ng HS. Fuego Perpetual!
