View Full Version : DLSU's Prized Recruit Yutien Andrada

cutiecutecute
Apr 13, 2009, 09:56 PM
Ayon sa source ko, Yutien Andrada is the newest recruit of DLSU.

Does this kid have any other name to go by?

Not a few people will blush if someone calls him "Uten" Andrada.

i think he's far from being a rico type of a player cause he is not that athletic..he's just an inside type of a player(good defensive player) rebounds well and block shots well..limited lang nga offensive skills compare to rico cause rico can finish the fastbreak well..

andrada really is a good catch, a legitimate center(almost 6'7) and has really long arms and a good attitude to boast with with. he needs to beef up some more, last time i watched the kid play he's still reed thin. thats why ssc staglets has been very successful in their campaign in the ncaa(bringas, buenafe, andrada) at the helm.:)

actually, if andrada will break DLSU's main team, nothing much is expected of him.. all he has to do is just play defense.. ala nonoy baclao.. with lasalle's big guns from the RP youth and the holdovers from last season, all he's expected to do is play good defense in the paint.. any offense that comes from him is already a plus..

but for the record, i think andrada will eventually develop his offensive game in due time.. but for now, his lock down defense will be very helpful in the paint..

^^ if he can bulk up, just maybe as big as a maui villanueva, without sacrificing his lateral speed and hops, then my god lasalle hit the jackpot (not even adding bringas to that equation)... i could see him as a tyson chandler type of player.. long and lean.. imagine LA Revilla feeding alley-oops to him during practice.. damn... yes, scary thoughts..

SSC Jrs beat ADMU Blue Eaglets. Yutien Andrada is the main reason why ADMU lost that game.. A great defensive player.

Good catch by DLSU..;)

If they guard each other, who's the better player and who's taller and longer.

both Yutien Andrada and Russel Escoto did not see that much action that time. what we had then was a showdown between Arvie Bringas and Mark Juruena, with Andrada being the alternate center for NCAA and Escoto the alternate for UAAP. that time, Bringas was off and Juruena was all around. Andrada had a somewhat satisfactory performance and the same can be said about Escoto.

going back to Andrada, he may be reed thin but he is very tall and has long limbs that would sure pose a problem to the opposition. i saw the way Andrada got those rebounds then and given the good basketball program in place at DLSU, i am pretty sure that he will improve further, though i must say that Bringas is a much better man underneath the basketball in terms of play and preparedness for college basketball compared to him.

there is an obvious mismatch between the San Sebastian Staglets and the Ateneo Blue Eaglets- height. no one in the Blue Eaglets' roster can match up with the sheer size of the Baste bigs- 6'4" Arvie Bringas, 6'6" Yutien Andrada, 6'5" Kenneth Mamaril and 6'5" Jeric Estrada. the Staglets obviously used their size advantage against the smaller Blue Eaglets, which was key to their victory.

i expect Andrada to further improve as he goes on with his journey to become an Archer. i hope that the kid will be able to meet the requirements of Franz Pumaren's system. :)

On topic, Andrada would really be a big contribution to the team wherein there's really a big hole in interior defense in terms of shot blocking abilities especially with the departure of Maierhoffer.

Watermelon (Citrullus lanatus (Thunb.) Matsum & Nakai, family Cucurbitaceae) refers to both fruit and plant of a vine-like (climber and trailer) herb originally from southern Africa and one of the most common types of melon. This flowering plant produces a special type of fruit known by botanists as a pepo, which has a thick rind (exocarp) and fleshy center (mesocarp and endocarp); pepos are derived from an inferior ovary and are characteristic of the Cucurbitaceae. The watermelon fruit, loosely considered a type of melon (although not in the genus Cucumis), has a smooth exterior rind (green and yellow) and a juicy, sweet, usually red, but sometimes orange, yellow, or pink interior flesh.

History

It is not known when the plant was first cultivated, but Zohary and Hopf note evidence of its cultivation in the Nile Valley from at least as early as the second millennium BC. Finds of the characteristically large seed are reported in Twelfth dynasty sites; numerous watermelon seeds were recovered from the tomb of Pharaoh Tutankhamun,[1] although the existence of the fruit in ancient Egypt is not certain because it is not depicted in any hieroglyphic text nor does any ancient writer mention it. It wasn't present in any other culture of the ancient Mediterranean.
A closeup of a watermelon leaf

By the 10th century AD, watermelons were being cultivated in China, which is today the world's single largest watermelon producer. By the 13th century, Moorish invaders had introduced the fruit to Europe; and, according to John Mariani's The Dictionary of American Food and Drink, "watermelon" made its first appearance in an English dictionary in 1615.

In Vietnam, legend holds that watermelon was discovered in Vietnam long before it reached China, in the era of the Hùng Kings. According to legend, watermelon was discovered by Prince Mai An Tiêm, an adopted son of the 11th Hùng King. When he was exiled unjustly to an island, he was told that if he could survive for six months, he would be allowed to return. When he prayed for guidance, a bird flew past and dropped a seed. He cultivated the seed and called its fruit "dưa tây" or western melon, because the birds who ate it flew from the west. When the Chinese took over Vietnam in about 110 BC, they called the melons "dưa hảo" (good melon) or "dưa hấu", "dưa Tây", "dưa hảo", "dưa hấu"—all words for "watermelon". An Tiêm's island is now a peninsula in the suburban district of Nga Sơn.[2][3]
Watermelons on display by a roadside vendor in Delhi, India

Museums Online South Africa list watermelons as having been introduced to North American Indians in the 1500s. Early French explorers found Native Americans cultivating the fruit in the Mississippi Valley. Many sources list the watermelon as being introduced in Massachusetts as early as 1629. Southern food historian John Egerton has said he believes African slaves helped introduce the watermelon to the United States. Texas Agricultural Extension horticulturalist Jerry Parsons lists African slaves and European colonists as having distributed watermelons to many areas of the world. Parsons also mentions the crop being farmed by Native Americans in Florida (by 1664) and the Colorado River area (by 1799). Other early watermelon sightings include the Midwestern states (1673), Connecticut (1747), and the Illiana region (1822).

Charles Fredric Andrus, a horticulturist at the USDA Vegetable Breeding Laboratory in Charleston, South Carolina, set out to produce a disease-resistant and wilt-resistant watermelon. The result was "that gray melon from Charleston." Its oblong shape and hard rind made it easy to stack and ship. Its adaptability meant it could be grown over a wide geographical area. It produced high yields and was resistant to the most serious watermelon diseases: anthracnose and fusarium wilt.
Square watermelon from Japan

Today, farmers in approximately 44 states in the U.S. grow watermelon commercially, and almost all these varieties have some Charleston Gray in their lineage. Georgia, Florida, Texas, California and Arizona are the USA's largest watermelon producers.

This now-common watermelon is often large enough that groceries often sell half or quarter melons. There are also some smaller, spherical varieties of watermelon, both red- and yellow-fleshed, sometimes called "icebox melons."

In Japan, farmers of the Zentsuji region found a way to grow cubic watermelons, by growing the fruits in glass boxes and letting them naturally assume the shape of the receptacle.[4] The square shape is designed to make the melons easier to stack and store, but the square watermelons are often more than double the price of normal ones. Pyramid shaped watermelons have also been developed.
