Season 6, 1st Conference Format
First Stage: Eliminations
- Single Round Robin, Top Four teams will get outright Quarterfinals berth.
Second Stage: Wildcard Phase
- The bottom four after the eliminations will be joined by Visayan Teams; USLS and USJ-R and will play in a single round robin affair. Four teams will be booted out of the competition while the top two of the Quarterfinals will join the first four in the Quarterfinals.
Third Stage: Quarterfinals
- The six teams will again be in a single round robin affair. Top four teams will move on to the Final Four.
Fourth Stage: Final Four
- #1 will battle #4 and #2 will battle #3 in a Best-of-Three affair. Winners will move on to the Finals.
Fifth Stage: Championship
- The winners of the Final Four games will face off in another Best-of-Three Championship affair. The losers meanwhile will face off in a Best-of-Three Battle for Bronze.
The League will follow the Back-to-Zero format wherein no win-loss record will be carried over to the next stage. (ex. If Team B has a 1-6 card in the eliminations, his record will go back to 0 in the wildcard phase, etc.)
If you have questions, try inquiring it in this thread.
Oh Yes. We're in for a LOOOONNNGGG conference.
little concern ko dito is SSC-R and CSB who will also play NCAA season 85 volleyball. sana no fatigue factor dito soon.

CSB Lady Blazers make V-League debut
MANILA, Philippines – College of Saint Benilde would be the last team to debut in the first conference of the Shakey’s V-League’s sixth season when it battles University of the Philippines at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the FilOil-Flying V Arena in San Juan City.
In other matches, former champion Adamson and three-time titlist University of Santo Tomas clash for the early lead at 6:00 p.m. Far Eastern University goes for a piece of the lead as it battles Lyceum at 4:00 p.m.
The Lady Falcons and the Tigresses pulled off contrasting wins to open their respective bids. Adamson swept the Ateneo-OraCare Lady Eagles, 25-20, 25-19, 25-18, while UST survived a thrilling five-set decision against last conference champion San Sebastian, 25-17, 25-19, 15-25, 13-25, 15-11.
Focus will be on Adamson’s guest players Nerissa Bautista, the reigning MVP, and the returning Michelle Carolino of Santo Tomas as they try to lead and inspire their respective teams to a second straight win.
FEU, meanwhile, hopes to display its old form when it thumped UP, 25-19, 25-15, 25-14, against a Lyceum side also reeling from a four-set setback to Ateneo two days ago.
The Lady Tamaraws are expected to lean on guest player Tina Salak, who held the team together with her superb set plays against the Lady Maroons.
The Lady Blazers are composed of guest players Maureen Penetrante and Ivy Remulla, Katty Kwan, Ren Agero, Giza Yumang, LC Quemada, Cindy Velasquez, and Zharmaine Velez.
Penetrante and Remulla used to play for sister school De La Salle-Manila.
The Diliman-based spikers are going all out to stop St. Benilde behind Southlyn Ramos, Rebecca Montero, May Genido, Cathy Barcelon and guest players Rubie de Leon and Danielle Castaneda. – GMANews.TV

Strong V-League debut for St. Benilde, hands UP second loss
04/23/2009 | 10:01 PM
College of Saint Benilde outlasted University of the Philippines, 17-25, 25-20, 18-25, 25-22, 15-9, to open its Shakey's V-League sixth season campaign at the FilOil-Flying V Arena in San Juan City.
The Lady Blazers, last year’s NCAA women’s volleyball runner-up, only had two victories to show in the two conferences they have partaken in the V-League.
The victory, which needed almost two hours to settle, served as a big welcome for new coach Thelma Barina-Rojas. She is the head coach of the RP women’s team in this year’s Laos SEA Games.
“We are still adjusting that is why I tried to come up with new combinations," said Barina-Rojas. She was a member of the national team that last won a SEA Games gold in 1993 in Singapore.
Guest player Maureen Penetrante unleashed a 20-point performance, including 17 kills and two services aces, while Cindy Velasquez and Giza Yuma churned out 13 hits each.
Four UP players scored in double figures with guest player Rubie De Leon tossing in 16 hits, Rebecca Montero scoring 15 and Danielle Castañeda and Southlyn Ramos chipping in 12 apiece.
The Lady Blazers took a 20-13 lead in the fourth behind Yumang’s down-the-line hit. The Maroons fought back to within two, 19-21, before Kwan took over to preserve the set and force the decider.
With Kwan, Yumang, Penetrante and Velasquez teaming up, the Lady Blazers controlled the fifth set and built a comfortable lead to thwart the Maroons’ last-ditch effort to turn the game around. – GMANews.TV

I’m trying to convince myself that they just simply don’t bother PEXing.

ylle41
Apr 29, 2009, 11:08 AM
walang problema sa supporters ng SSC very supportive pa nga sila eh... What I mean hindi pa masyadong sikat ang volleyball sa NCAA mismo perhaps dahil sabay ito sa volleyball and kulang sa exposure and 2 teams lang ang nasa v-league. yung last sentence ko naman what I mean ay kailangan ko pa mag-PEX para lang marealize ko na basketball is only 1 major sport sa NCAA na dapat supportahan din ang volleyball and all other sports.

MANILA, Philippines - St. Benilde outlasted Lyceum, 25-23, 21-25, 25-11, 23-25, 15-13, to remain in contention for a quarterfinal spot in the sixth Shakey’s V-League Tuesday at the Arena in San Juan.
It was only the second win for the Lady Blazers, whose guest player Maureen Penetrante ended the match with a hit and in the process eliminated the Pirates in the quarterfinal race.
However, the Lady Blazers, who gave the Pirates their fifth straight defeat, must win their last two matches to earn a quarterfinal berth for themselves.
St. Benilde will be facing toughter opponents in the last two matches, which include a faceoff with Ateneo on Thursday and a match against UST next week.
“We are still on target to make it to the Top 4. But we have to get a good preparation and training. We may be a weak team compared to others, but we will keep on fighting," said St. Benilde coach Thelma Barina-Rojas after the two-hour, 12-minute match.
Penetrante finished with 21 hits. She was ably supported by Giza Yumang who contributed 19 points.
Joy Cases anchored Lyceum with 18 hits and Syvie Artates added three blocks to her 16 hits. –GMANews.TV

SSC, FEU tangle for V-League quarters spot
05/11/2009 | 08:03 PM
MANILA, Philippines - San Sebastian and Far Eastern University tangle on Tuesday for the second quarterfinal spot while reigning champion Adamson University tries to earn at least a playoff spot when it meets University of the Philippines in the 6th Shakey’s V-League at The Arena in San Juan.
The Lady Stags and Lady Tams are tied for second place with their identical 4-1 slates and their different style of game, being the league's top offensive and defensive teams, are expected to bring more excitement to the much-awaited match.
So far only University of Santo Tomas has made it to the next round wherein top provincial teams University of St. La Salle-Bacolod and University of San Jose-Recoletos were invited to play.
“It would be better if we win today (Tuesday) rather than wait for the next game to get into the next round. But we have to be consistent with our game," said SSC coach Roger Gorayeb referring to their next assignment which would be against Adamson in the last playdate of the eliminations on Thursday. On the same date, FEU will meet Ateneo-OraCare.
But the Lady Tams are also focused on immediately gaining a spot into the next round.
“We have to stay focused and do all what we have been practicing," said FEU mentor Nes Pamilar, who managed the three-set victory against the Lady Falcons.
Adamson is favored to win over winless UP and assure itself of quarterfinal spot in the other match. –GMANews.TV

San Sebastian drubs FEU for V-League quarters spot
05/12/2009 | 07:14 PM
MANILA, Philippines - San Sebastian College barged into the quarterfinals on Tuesday via a 25-17, 25-20, 25-16 win over Far Eastern University in the 6th Shakey’s V-League at The Arena in San Juan City.
Once again Thai import Jaroensri Bualee anchored the Lady Stags' offense as she finished with a game-high 23 points, including a drop shot that handed SSC the victory in the one-hour, seven-minute encounter.
Supporting Bualee was Laurence Latigay who contributed 17 points.
San Sebastian now moves on to the quarterfinals just like early qualifier UST Tigresses while Far Eastern U, defending champion Adamson University and Ateneo-OraCare are still disputing the last two quarterfinal berths.
San Sebastian mentor Roger Gorayeb explained that the three-set victory over FEU was the product of his team's cohesion even as the squad is getting stronger.
"Our team is slowly starting to gel and our game is definitely getting stronger," said Gorayeb. – Perry Legaspi, GMANews.TV

Adamson, Ateneo vie for last V-League quarterfinal spot
05/16/2009 | 06:09 PM
MANILA, Philippines – Adamson University and Ateneo-OraCare vie for the last quarterfinal berth in Sunday’s playoff game in the 6th Shakey’s V-League.
The Lady Falcons are hoping that they can repeat against the Lady Eagles at The Arena in San Juan City after winning their last seven meetings, including a 25-20, 25-19, 25-18 triumph in the season opener.
Expected to anchor Adamson is reigning most valuable player Nerissa Bautista with Paulina Soriano, Rissa Jane Laguilles, Jill Gustillo, Joanna Carpio and Angela Benting as her support crew.
Adamson is known for its power and marvelous reception and the Lady Falcons hope to use these weapons against the Lady Eagles, who likewise bowed to Adamson in last year's first conference championship.
Ateneo, on the other hand, is hoping that Thai reinforcement Keawbundit Sontaya will be able to lead the Lady Eagles, who are eager to end their string of defeats against the Lady Falcons.
Locals Charo Soriano, Kara Acevedo, Fille Cainglet, Misha Quimpo, Angeline Gervacio, Gretchen Ho and Jamenea Ferrer – members of the Ateneo team that lost seven straight to Adamson – want some payback.
The Lady Eagles missed the bus into the quarterfinals when they bowed to Far Eastern University in their last elimination round assignment. It was the same for Adamson who bowed to San Sebastian that forced the playoff.
Already in the single-round quarterfinals are San Sebastian, University of Santo Tomas, FEU and guest teams University of San Jose-Recoletos and University of St. La Salle-Bacolod, which will meet in an exhibition match in Sunday's opener. – Perry Legaspi, GMANews.TV

San Sebastian gives USJ-R rude V-League welcome
05/19/2009 | 06:29 PM
MANILA, Philippines – San Sebastian College demolished guest team University of San Jose-Recoletos of Cebu, 25-8, 25-9, 25-15, to start its quarterfinal campaign in the 6th Shakey's V-League at The Arena in San Juan City on Tuesday.
Laurence Ann Latigay led the Lady Stags in the one-sided contest scoring 16 of her 17 points in kills while Thai import Jaroensri Bualee and Rysabelle Devanadera contributed 15 and 13 markers in the 56-minute match.
Facing a relentless offense from the Stags' power game, the Lady Jaguars groped for form in their V-League debut and could not find the same spark that gave them six CESAFI titles.
The Jaguars also experienced the Stags all-around court defense denying the visiting team from scoring easily.
With the Lady Stags’ wall-like defense at the net, only guest player Erika Verano managed to score in double digits for USJ-R with 10 points.
San Sebastian finished with six blocks and its well-placed serves earned the Lady Stags 15 service points to bag its seventh straight win, dating back to the single round eliminations.

UST rips FEU in V-League quarterfinals
05/19/2009 | 08:52 PM
MANILA, Philippines – University of Santo Tomas joined San Sebastian College for the early lead in the Shakey’s V-League quarterfinal round after beating Far Eastern University, 19-25, 25-18, 25-7, 25-19, Tuesday at the San Juan Gym.
San Sebastian scored an easy 25-8, 25-9, 25-15 win over University of San Jose-Recoletos in the first game.
After an opening set loss, 25-19, the Tigresses put in motion their vaunted all-around game and demolished the opposition, limiting the Lady Tams to just seven points in the third and finishing the job in 76 minutes.
Guest players Mary Jean Balse and Michelle Carolino anchored UST’s offense as they combined for 35 points while team captain Aiza Maizo led the defense with seven blocks and even contributed 13 markers.
It was a sorry loss for the Lady Tams who went into the game trying to score their first quarterfinal win in their first post-season appearance. But their so-so third set game opened the door for the Tigresses to just rip them apart.
Lady Tams Mayette Carolino finished with 15 points even as Irish Morada contributed 10 and Rachel AnneDaquis, Cherry Vivas and Shaira Gonzalez added a combined 25-point performance in the losing effort.

San Sebastians grabs second win in V-League quarterfinals
05/21/2009 | 09:36 PM
MANILA, Philippines – San Sebastian College defeated University of St. La Salle-Bacolod, 25-14, 25-15, 25-19, to climb on top of the Shakey's V-League quarterfinal standings on Thursday at The Arena in San Juan City on Thursday.
The victory was the second straight for the Lady Stags who likewise defeated guest team University of San Jose-Recoletos during Tuesday's start of the quarterfinal round.
As expected Thai import Jaroensri Bualee and reigning NCAA most valuable player Laurence Anne Latigay led the Lady Stags posting 13 points each in downing the Lady Stingers.
But even with the three-set victory, SSC coach Roger Gorayeb was far from being satisfied with his wards’ the performance.
“It’s good that we won, but I wasn’t totally satisfied with our team performance because we committed so many errors," said Gorayeb pointing out the Lady Stags’ anemic start in the match that gave the Lady Stingers seven easy points.
“But we’ll surely make adjustments in the following games," added Gorayeb, whose team won its eight straight game dating back to the elimination round. Their only defeat was against UST during the season opener.
Contributing to the Lady Stags' victory were guest players Suzanne Roces and Rysabell Devanadera who scored 12 apiece in the 68-minute match. – Perry Legaspi, GMANews.TV

FEU hands USJ-R second loss in V-League quarterfinals
05/21/2009 | 07:11 PM
MANILA, Philippines – Far Eastern University waylaid University of San Jose-Recoletos, 25-13, 25-16, 25-22, to book its first win in the quarterfinal round of the 6th Shakey’s V-League at The Arena in San Juan on Thursday.
The Lady Tams, who bowed to University of Santo Tomas (19-25, 25-18, 25-7, 25-19) in their first quarterfinal assignment, needed just an hour in defeating the visiting Jaguars behind the fancied games of Rachel Anne Daquis and Irish Morada.
Daquis and Morada combined for 18 kills and 21 points while April Jose added eight markers.
FEU gave USJ-R its second straight defeat after the Jaguars lost to San Sebastian last Tuesday.
The Lady Tams were so dominant that they scored 39 hits against USJ-R's 25. FEU also posted 13 service points with Jose making four.
FEU also capitalized on USJ-R’s failure to defend the net as Rachel Singson and Erika Verano scoring a combined 15 spikes against the Jaguars’
Making it tough for the Jaguars was their failure to penetrate FEU’s net defense with USJ-R’s Rachel Singson and Erika Verano combining for 15 spikes while the Cebu-based squad finished with 17. – Perry Legaspi, GMANews.TV

Semis-bound SSC, UST wins fourth straight in V-League q’finals
05/28/2009 | 09:32 PM
MANILA, Philippines – Semifinalists San Sebastian College and University of Santo Tomas posted their fourth-straight victories against separate rivals in the 6th Shakey’s V-League quarterfinals at The Arena in San Juan City.
The Lady Stags scored an emphatic 25-22, 25-18, 25-17 win over Far Eastern University for their 10th straight win and giving the Lady Tamaraws their second defeat in four matches.
San Sebastian’s win also stopped FEU’s automatic entry into the semifinals. The Morayta-based squad, one of several teams aiming for the final two semis berths, are hoping to join the Lady Stags and Tigresses in the Final Four.
As expected Thai import Jaroensri Bualee and locals Lou Ann Latigas and Rusabelle Devanadera led the Lady Stags, who remained tied with the Tigresses for the lead.
Bualee finished with 16 hits while Devandadera and Latigas contributed 11 markers each for San Sebastian, which are set to meet the Tigresses this Sunday in what could be a finals preview.
UST bounced back from a first set loss in completing a 21-25, 25-11, 25-10, 25-17 triumph over University of St. La Salle-Bacolod. The defeat eliminated the Lady Stingers in the semifinals race with their 0-4 card.
“We struggled in the first set but we recovered in the next three as we were able to adjust on our offense and blocking," said UST coach Cesael delos Santos.
UST is again hoping to repeat its 25-17, 25-19, 15-25, 13-25, 15-11 win over SSC during their first meeting in the conference’s opening game.
However, the Lady Stags are raring to get back at the Tigresses and win their second straight crown. – Perry Legaspi, GMANews.TV

UST, San Sebastian clash for V-League top spot
05/30/2009 | 03:25 PM
MANILA, Philippines – In what many considered to be a finals preview, University of Santo Tomas and San Sebastian College square off Sunday with the top seeding at stake in the continuation of the Shakey’s V-League quarterfinals at The Arena in San Juan City.
The Tigresses and the Lady Stags are currently tied on top of the standings with identical 4-0 slates and both squads are targeting the top position going into the crossover semifinals.
UST is hoping to duplicate their victory against SSC during the conference's opening game, a win that would give the Tigresses the momentum going into the Final Four.
But that defeat to the Tigresses gave the Lady Stags additional reason to play harder this season that had them winning 10 straight games, which they hope to continue heading into the semis.
The match will again showcase the face-off between SSC stars Rysabelle Devanadera, Lou Ann Latigas and Thai import Jaroensri Bualee against UST's top players Mary Jean Balse, Michelle Carolino and Aiza Maizo.
In the scheduled first match, Adamson aims to quash University of San Jose-Recoletos’ slim Final Four chances and complete the semis cast together with Far Eastern University.
If Adamson wins, the defending champs will automatically eliminate the Jaguars and ensure the entry of FEU into the semifinals.
The Jaguars need a victory after absorbing three straight defeats to keep their flickering semis hope alive. – Perry Legaspi, GMANews.TV

What I like most to SSC-R is that the way they play. Im seeing lots of back set excuted by Boulee. Pero the last time I watched the game the commentators mentioned something regarding double touch done by Ancheta which obviously resulted a score to UST. What does it mean should I take it literally?

Thanks for the immediate feedback I usaully observe that from Ancheta especially pagnakaluhod na siya when she's setting the ball. But she's effective setter naman for me. That's why Boulee and Roces are giving lots of attack resutling a score for them.

actually ang mga touching violations na yan ay isa sa mga toughest calls sa volleyball parang blocking/charging fouls sa basketball.

Iba kasi iba mag set si april jose but these can be observed only kung sino ang kalaban nila. Obviously she cant do that to UST because of their effective blockers like Mance,Maizo and Ortiz isama pa si Balse.

hilaw pa si Jose kaya si Salak ang guest player ng FEU. as of now FEU will have a tough time na matalo ang UST.
partida hindi pa nilalabas ni Maizo ang offensive powers niya sa v-league, nakita natin sa UAAP kung gaano kalakas si Maizo.

i feel for ancheta.. balse hit her straight to her face..
at buong bahay yata ni balse ang tumama sa kanya...
best highlight of the game... or might it be for the whole conference yet...
last time it was bernal, and now si balse naman ang nagbigay ng facial MASSAGE kay ancheta.. poor girl..

The referee would most likely call a double when the setter has a spinning set. Dapat steady lang ang bola.
Madaling makita ang ikot ng bola dahil sa design nila ngayon (three colors).

Actually Im fan of Carpio aside from being an effective setter you can see variation on how she handle the ball like spiking, ball dropping and sometimes service ace (correct my terms if its wrong). Nakakatuwa lang syang panoorin cant get away from being amazed with how she played. You can count on her also in blocking and somtimes saving the ball. Wow too much praise from me hehehehe

absence nila Carpio and Bautista hurts Adamson so much...
kahit diyan yung 2 guests players ng Adamson I don't think they can beat SSC in a best of 3 series.

Bautista and Carpio were out during their games with SSC-R but they managed to performed excellenty. They have good coverage and strong defense. What's frustrating me sometimes during the game was the setter. She committed many errors pero for sure Carpio will be seeing on their games on sunday against SSC-R.

hindi pa nga sure yan eh, nasa ibang bansa sila for beach volleyball competition...
well hindi sila nagpalit ng guest player before semis so sila Carpio and Bautista pa din ang nasa official line up ng Adamson line up before the semis.
