Mukhang interested ang Solar to air UAAP on one of its acquired UHF channels, while GMA-7 might air UAAP to QTV, in case either of them wins the bidding. Ang tanong, will ABS-CBN allow this to happen?
Anyhow, nakaisa na ang ABS-CBN against both Solar and GMA sa Pacquiao-Hatton fight. Mukhang handang mamakyaw ang ABS-CBN Sports para maka strike-two.

Network war seen for UAAP television rights
Updated March 18, 2009 12:00 AM
MANILA, Philippines - The 72nd UAAP season might turn out to be the last year of partnership between the country’s most glamorous collegiate league and giant network ABS-CBN.
The contract between the UAAP and ABS-CBN will expire on March 31, 2010, and this early, the bidding for the extensive television rights over the UAAP has begun.
While ABS-CBN enjoys the right of first refusal, meaning it may continue to cover the games if it wishes to, at least two stations have shown interest in the coverage.
They are GMA-7, the main rival of ABS-CBN, and Solar Entertainment.
The new UAAP season unfolds on July 11 at the Araneta Coliseum and should end by October.
“We’ve always wanted to cover the UAAP but we didn’t want to get in because there’s a contract,” said Solar vice president for business development and operations Ralph Roy.
“But now that the UAAP contract with ABS-CBN is set to expire after this coming season, we will join the bidding,” said Roy.
The Solar executive is aware that ABS-CBN, which has covered the UAAP games for almost 10 years now, has the right of first refusal.
“We’ve always been interested in the UAAP. In fact, we have already prepared a package for this. But I heard GMA-7 is also interested,” said Roy.
While ABS-CBN has the TV rights over the UAAP and the National Collegiate Basketball Association, games have been aired live, thrice a week, over Studio 23.
Roy, who called The STAR yesterday, also laughed off reports that Manny Pacquiao is all set to end his relationship with Solar Entertainment which has covered his fights over the last couple of years.
Like Solar Entertainment chief operating officer Peter Chanliong, Roy said Pacquiao’s contract with the cable channel, which beams Pacquiao fights in the US through GMA-7, is intact. – Abac Cordero

ABS-CBN's contract expires early next year.
3 networks offered their bids:
Solar (through C/S 9, BTV and Solar Sports)
GMA (through QTV)
ABS-CBN (through Studio 23, and get this, the men's basketball finals will be on Channel 2)
All 3 submitted 5-year bids.
Which network should air the UAAP?

Doesn't matter to me who gets the TV rights, all I want from the UAAP is that they REQUIRE the bidders to:
1. tape ALL MATCHES of ALL SPORTS: tape must be made available to all the schools. This will help the schools scout their opponents. Better scouting all around means that all the schools will need to improve their level of play or else they will be creamed. Take note that taping the matches is different from airing the matches on TV (see below)
2. Broadcast a GAME OF THE WEEK at least for ALL SPORTS. It doesn't matter if the broadcast is live or delayed, but it has to be on a regular schedule, meaning if they're showing the football GAME OF THE WEEK at 3pm Tuesday, they should show all the succeeding GAMES OF THE WEEK on that time slot until there is a champion for the sport.
For the good of sports DIN sana ang negotiation ng UAAP sa TV rights. Huwag naman sana puro revenues lang.
my two cents.

corny pag GMA. .(sorry sa mga GMA fanatics)
Same thoughts here.. I have an issue with GMA for being distasteful when it comes to just everything. :D
Solar, I would like to see Jude Turcuato doing the commentator but I'm not sure if they can really market the UAAP how ABS did. ;)

kapag Solar makakuha, basketball lang focus ng mga yan, walang volleyball malamang yun, kaya ABS-CBN is still the best station for UAAP.

Apr 5, 2009, 11:20 PM
I don't like the sound of "sana lang i-cover din (ng ABS-CBN) ang iba(ng) sports" or "kapag Solar makakuha, basketball lang focus ng mga yan"...
Doesn't the UAAP have bargaining leverage to DEMAND that the winning bidder (ABS-CBN or some other network) broaden the coverage to include ALL SPORTS?
UAAP must demand to get what it wants and what is good for ALL sports.

Actually Boom Gonzalez is a great host when it comes to the UAAP Cheerdance Competition dun nalang siya wag na basketball.
I'm satisfied with ABS(Studio 23). I'm already used to the ABSCBN Sports commercials. GMA might add more drama and put GMA stars like Richard Gutierrrez and Marian Rivera. Ugh!
Bahay_Kubo
Apr 9, 2009, 02:05 PM
^ that is because Boom Gonzalez, a DJ, is doing a somewhat better job in hosting entertainment shows such as the UAAP Cheerdance Competition (take note that the Cheerdance Competition is not really a part of official UAAP sports activities but is only a sideshow that features talented cheering squads from the eight member universities of the league) as compared to doing basketball game coverage.
and if ever Boom Gonzalez gets replaced (which i doubt given the fact that he is "a pet" of ABS-CBN Sports head Peter Musngi and ABS-CBN attack dog Ronnie Nathanielsz), who will take his place in the UAAP coverage? Eric Tipan, who should just stay on his job as a DJ? Chiqui Roa-Puno, who sucks on her job? Andrei Felix, who many fans despised when he made his "guest appearance" on the UAAP?
the thing is ABS-CBN already ran out of people who can really do good and genuine sports coverage, no thanks to internal politics. Sev Sarmenta and Ronnie Magsanoc were the last good tandem to cover the UAAP games but both of them now are with Solar Sports along with other former UAAP commentators Jude Turcuato and Mico Halili. Bill Velasco and Butch Maniego are doing a good job in the NCAA, which is one of the various reasons why i do not see them having "guest appearances" on the UAAP and overstepping on the position of "superstar UAAP anchor" and "ABS-CBN Sports management pet" Boom Gonzalez.
if you want true sports coverage, give it to Solar. if you want entertainment (like Boom Gonzalez), stay with ABS-CBN. it's as simple as that. ;)

Correct me if I'm wrong. ABS-CBN popularized UAAP. Mas nakikilala ang UAAP when it partnered with ABS-CBN. Naging instant celebrities ang athletes coming from UAAP kahit wala pa sila sa PBA. In the 90's nung nag-bid ang ABS-CBN, naging popular ang UAAP. It started with basketball, then in recent years kasama na ang volleyball, then may nakikita rin akong football minsan.
ABS-CBN is a media giant. Yung chalk magazine nila they feature UAAP and NCAA during the beginning of the school year. They also have TFC for global reach and ABS-CBN Now! para sa internet. There's a lot of room for improvement. ABS-CBN has their sports department unlike with GMA.
I believe ABS-CBN is capable of putting up its own sports channel. Ngayon nilalagay muna nila sa Studio 23. Yung Studio 23 nga ngayon parang sports channel na kapag hapon eh with NCAA and PBL.

i believe *** women's volleyball lang *** pinasikat nila. ever since lumaki population ng uaap, with the addition of admu and dlsu, which came from a bigger and more famous league back then, mas lumaki *** viewers ng uaap, dahil maraming supporters ang admu, and ang dlsu ay nagsisimula pa lang bumangon. tas *** 1995 cheerdance, sobrag lumaki *** viewers after ng success nung 1994. 1998 naging nestle *** sponsor kaya mas magarbo.
bottom line, siguro may part rin ang abs-cbn sa pag promote ng uaap, but t's not entirely their fault kaya sobrang naging successful ang uaap. Ang schools ng uaap malalaki ang population,at common rin sa pandinig ng maraming tao, so it's not a wonder kung bakit malaki ang number of viewers ng uaap.

I think the UAAP Coverage should still stay with ABS-CBN due to the following points:
1. Global Exposure - UAAP Games have been popular in and out of the country because of The Network's Global Reach
2. I agree with some of the PEXers view on GMA making it more of a network war and exposure for its Kapuso Stars (crap)
3. It would be fine with Solar but they lack the popularity and reach specially in far-flung areas
And I agree that Boom is not as good as Sev Sarmenta, but to those criticizing his skills in Sports and Entertainment Coverage, what do you know about Broadcasting? My two cents on this one.

Just put Bill Velasco and Butch Maniego to UAAP ..
Its just ABS sometimes tries to bully their competitors and that's the reason why many hate them. They use their power and influence just to get what they want.

This could be true coz according to my dad, there were no TV coverages back in his days. Even those who are not from schools participating in the UAAP were able to watch and know those college ballers. And those college ballers are potential PBA stars.

bottom line, siguro may part rin ang abs-cbn sa pag promote ng uaap, but t's not entirely their fault kaya sobrang naging successful ang uaap. Ang schools ng uaap malalaki ang population,at common rin sa pandinig ng maraming tao, so it's not a wonder kung bakit malaki ang number of viewers ng uaap.
volleyball's popularity made it's comeback because of vleague not because of studio 23. abs was just forced to air volleyball as its popularity grows.
and UUAP has been popular ever since channel 4 pa lang ang nagko-cover sa kanila. they have even higher ratings then compared now.
solar should get it or QTV para mabawasan naman gumanda ang coverage at maging magaling ang mga annotators.

Ugh!

before Studio 23 packaged itself into the "Kabarkada Mo" network that it is nowadays, it was aimed to be an all-English channel featuring mostly shows being aired on American TV networks. the change on Studio 23's packaging came when ABS-CBN decided to go against the PBA by launching its own basketball league, the now-defunct MBA. since then, Studio 23 had made the transition from being the all-English channel that it was once conceived into the "Kabarkada Mo" channel that is now.
as for QTV, yes, the main concept (ironically, by former Studio 23 head and now GMA Marketing and QTV head Manuel Quiogue, the same guy who helped bring the UAAP and the NCAA to ABS-CBN) is that it will feature programs that specifically cater to females. however, given GMA's plans to bid for the broadcast rights of UAAP games, QTV is now open to changes in its programming just like how ABS-CBN decided to change the concept behind Studio 23 in order to accommodate the MBA and, later on, the UAAP and the NCAA. ;)

UP naman sana bida...

... di sila pwede tumanggi o may something sa contract that allows them not to accept abs' offer?! di kasi ako familiar sa mga contract .... thanks!

yeah right hindi masyadong matakaw sa commercial ang S23, its not because wala silang sponsors but they go with the flow of the game, and ke pamilya man o kapuso na fanatics ng volleyball eh nagkaka isa na mas maganda talaga reception ng ABS

I hope na UAAP sticks with S23, who knows baka dahil sa pag challenge ng Solar gumawa sila ng separate UHF channel para sa UAAP or for sports in general?.

unfortunately you are not watching UAAP on Studio 23, because if you do then you must have known that some games are covered even live. Of course not all games are covered. Di naman "total" sports channel and Studio 23.
but for the past years, UAAP becomes a household name because of TV coverage... and what channel? Studio 23.
so? why change if we are satisfied and if you want improvement then inform studio 23.
Just watch how GMA handles Manny's boxing fights...

I hate all of you
Date: 2009-06-10, 14:35:00
I don't care what colour you are. I don't care where you're from. I don't care what you do for a living. I don't care what class you are, how you dress, what you smoke or drink or who you know or whom you've f.ucked.
I hate you all. I hate every last living, breathing, snot and feces producing, promiscuously copulating, celebrity obsessed, opinionated one of you. From right here in Manila right around the planet and back, coast to coast, nationwide and internationally. Every. Single. Last. One. Of. You.
f.uck love. f.uck your insipid grasping at some abstract concept of chemical imbalances and reasonless actions, fumbling around in the crowd trying to find some cinematic supposition for real human interaction. f.uck lust, too. f.uck you all, from the lowlife dirtbags that think dropping through and waving the little soldier in a sloppy arc is a pick-up line to the sniveling of the desperate 'nice guys' who never get the girl due to a total lack of testosterone grown stones. f.uck you all, from the crazy, under dressed sluts that judge a persons character by the price of their shirt, right down to the fat, flabby chicks that think personality is enough.
f.uck you drivers, for thinking that a yellow light is a sign that says 'step on the gas'. f.uck you wheelmen and women that think it's okay to sit in a left hand turn in the middle of morning traffic, even though there is a protected left in the intersections before and after where you need to make your turn. f.uck you too cyclists - you're not exempt from the traffic laws just because your peddling, you miserable spandex covered neon reflective f.ucks. f.uck you too, pedestrians. Use the f.ucking crosswalk if you don't want to get hit, and use it before the little countdown clock says '3'. You don't have enough goddamn time to lope across four lanes of traffic.
f.uck you chick on your cellphone. f.uck you attitude packed minimum-wager that makes my coffee. f.uck you cops that spend all their time handing out speeding tickets. f.uck you douche bag doing ten over the limit in the passing lane on the highway. f.uck you lady using exact change at the counter at the grocery store. f.uck you kids having a conversation in the doorway. And **** you also for not getting the f.uck out of your designated handicapped seat when a pregnant or elderly person gets on the f.ucking bus.
f.uck taxes. f.uck welfare. f.uck the whole selfish, over politicized and party driven government system. I'm sick and f.ucking tired of policies and new laws with seven hundred bylaws that nobody but you and your cabinet reads. f.uck you councilors and your stupid 'district improvement' plans. f.uck you unions, for asking for so much and giving nothing more that what you already give. f.uck the whole process that allows people who are supposed to be working for us work for interests that only benefit the next campaign. f.uck your short-sightedness, your rush to the bandwagons, and your incessant arguing over f.uck all. f.uck the parties, f.uck the conventions, and f.uck your campaigns. Do some real f.ucking work for a change.
f.uck you bottles of water. You're water. You're not worth two f.ucking dollars.
f.uck you trendsetters, f.uck you fashionistas. f.uck your little dogs and and your idiotic outfits. f.uck your high heels in the snow. f.uck your five dollar coffees and your fifteen dollar veggie burgers. f.uck your health kick, your diet or your f.ucking new interest in kickboxing or sushi.
f.uck your culture. f.uck your race. f.uck your sense of entitlement. f.uck your sense of uniqueness. f.uck you all for the belief that you have something unique and interesting to contribute. f.uck you for filling the internet with your useless garbage. f.uck your blogs, your wikis, your forums. f.uck your name calling. And most of all, f.uck whatever you believe. It's all wrong. f.uck it.
f.uck your complaints. f.uck your addictions. f.uck your dependencies. f.uck your pain. f.uck your tears. f.uck selling whatever it is you sell. f.uck your manipulation of others. f.uck movies. f.uck f.ucking. f.uck everything you own. f.uck your allergies. f.uck your stupid commons sense. f.uck your spelling and f.uck your lack of education, or your ignorance, whatever is applicable.
I don't give a f.uck. Shut the f.uck up and just get on with it.

ABS-CBN to broadcast UAAP games in High Definition (HD).
UAAP and ABS-CBN Sports Updates
ABS-CBN Sports, this year's broadcaster of the UAAP basketball tournament, said the network aims to beam the games live in high definition by next season.
During Monday’s UAAP press conference at the ABS-CBN compound, members of the media asked ABS-CBN Sports executives what the future has in store for the premier collegiate league in terms of its television coverage.
Peter Musngi, ABS-CBN Sports Vice-President said there a lot of things on the horizon for the UAAP broadcast.
In particular, he mentioned the continued effort to find young blood to serve as courtside reporters for their respective school teams. The same goes for the main broadcast panel which Musngi felt is the best in the country.
He also said he feels humbled by other sectors in the local sporting world who have acknowledged that ABS-CBN Sports' quality of coverage has raised the bar which other broadcasters of sporting events have set themselves to meet.
The highlight of the presscon though was the disclosure of Musngi that the games will be broadcast by the network in high definition by 2009.
Barring any quick moves by other sports broadcasting networks, UAAP in 2009 will be the very first local sporting event to be aired on full high definition, a format which is fast becoming a standard in major sporting events in the US such as the NBA, NFL, and major golf tournaments of the PGA Tour. High Definition TV Broadcast or HDTV offers superb level of digital clarity.

i can still remember when uaap's handled by silverstar sports and was seen on ptv 4.
add to that the fact that ateneo then was team # 7.

The NCAA traditionally doesn't have that much commercials since before. It is in the UAAP where there are more ads, primarily during La Salle-Ateneo games.

Jul 7, 2009, 04:44 PM
all of these mean nothing because the UAAP only televises select sports to the detriment of the other sports.
UAAP 1st sem = basketball
UAAP 2nd sem = volleyball
what a dis-service to sports development in general.
Obviously, the idiots behind the UAAP organization, the schools and ABS-CBN and the millions of idiotic so-called UAAP fans couldn't care less. Most probably, their pea-brains can't even fathom the need for a televised broadcast of the other sports, ignoring the valuable worth of tapes for practice sessions, scouting and game preparation purposes.
but who cares, di ba?
what a bunch of morons.

Lucrative UAAP war for TV rights
By Jasmine W. Payo
Philippine Daily Inquirer
First Posted 22:22:00 07/08/2009
Filed Under: Basketball, University Athletics Association of the Philippines (UAAP)
WITH BIDS TOTALING MORE THAN P600 million, the cash register will be ringing again for the country’s most popular varsity league.
The country’s two largest networks and a sports cable channel have offered over P200 million each to earn the television rights of the UAAP, whose contract with broadcast giant ABS-CBN expires at the end of the season.
“Definitely we expect a much better contract,” said UAAP president Anton Montinola of host Far Eastern U. “The popularity of the UAAP really improved the last five years. Even ABS admits that the UAAP deserves a bigger contract.”
Broadcast sources said ABS-CBN has made a P205 million offer for a five-year period, almost four times more than its current P65 million contract for the previous five years.
Solar Sports reportedly presented a P215 million bid, while ABS-CBN’s rival GMA dangled the biggest amount at P265 million for the same period.
But ABS-CBN, which airs the games on UHF channel Studio 23, owns the right of first refusal, allowing the network the right to match the other offers. It aims to boost its return bid by airing the games starting this Saturday on high-definition television (HDTV).
“It’s a historic first on Philippine TV,” said ABS-CBN vice president for sports Peter Musngi. A six-man UAAP committee will deliberate on the league’s next television partner.

Holy cow! UAAP in HD. It seems ABS-CBN is doing all it can to retain the broadcast rights of UAAP. :D

UAAP season 72 opens in historic style (http://www.abs-cbnnews.com/07/09/09/uaap-season-72-opens-historic-style)

MANILA – Collegiate athletes and their supporters are in for a historic opening of the 72nd season of the University Athletics Association of the Philippines (UAAP) on Saturday.
Host Far Eastern University (FEU) is set to thrill audiences with the 1 p.m. opening ceremony program at the Araneta Coliseum in Cubao, Quezon City. This will be followed by games featuring the University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers vs. Adamson University Falcons at 2 p.m., and De La Salle Green Archers vs. University of the East Red Warriors at 4 p.m.
As for those who will not be able to watch the UAAP season 72 opening live, they are still in for a one-of-a-kind viewing experience.
ABS-CBN Sports vice-president Peter Musngi said Saturday’s UAAP telecast is the “first program on high definition (HD),” making it a “historic first for Philippine television.”
It is expected that covering and transmitting the UAAP in full HD will enhance the viewing experience as the pictures are more alive and crisp.
Viewers would need an HD box to get a hold of the UAAP “HD experience,” dubbed as the “second best thing to being there.”
Musngi, meantime, said that those without an HD box who would watch the UAAP on standard definition (on ABS-CBN’s Studio 23 and Balls Channel) will still have an improved viewing experience.
“Mas malutong ang kulay, mas makikita ang fouls,” assured Musngi.
When asked by the press how much ABS-CBN spent on HD technology, Musngi admitted that it was indeed an investment, refusing to reveal the exact amount of money used. “I can only tell you that the UAAP is worth it.”
Contract concerns
It has been nine years since the UAAP and ABS-CBN Sports forged a partnership. Musngi noted that 2009 is the last year between UAAP and ABS-CBN Sports.
“Negotiations are moving rather well,” he told ABS-CBN News, pertaining to talks of a contract renewal.
“Both sides are working together for an early resolution,” he added.
Musngi also cited ABS-CBN Sports’ efforts to promote other UAAP sports apart from basketball. He, however, mentioned the “sheer impossibility” of giving airtime to all sports.
“Every season, we develop at least two other sports,” he said. He mentioned that women’s volleyball is gaining ground.
He explained that giving focus on basketball does not mean they are sacrificing other sports for basketball. Though he stressed, “It’s still basketball.”

That is what BTV is for. Kasi local sports kahit saan puwede yan.
Ok na ako sa ABS yung UA at NC.

I must agree that Studio 23 is already the home of both UAAP and NCAA tv broadcast. But I wish that studio 23 will broadcast ALL the sporting events.
I believe there are 14 sporting events plus cheerdance.
So far, I've seen, senior/junior basketball, volleyball, soccer, badminton that was broadcast by studio 23.
I want to see swimming, chess, judo and other sporting events.
I dont really get why ABS CBN sports is bragging their HD broadcast, as if most of us has an HD TV. However, in the US, all TV networks are in HD and digital broadcast already.
And I don't like the new graphics of UAAP, as well as the opening OBB every games. NCAA graphics is much better.
Why not put up a seperate channel for UAAP and NCAA intead of giving the broadcast rights to others?
regarding the possible move to GMA network, I dont think they will broadcast it on Qtv because according to rumors, they will put up a seperate sports channel. Since GMA network is "I think" investing to put up a sports department. Regarding the signal, I heard that GMA is currently upgrading its broadcast facilities for the election coverage next year (including all regional network from Batanes to Jolo). They will buy high end equipments similar to those American tv networks and if possible, they will convert their broadcast from analog to digital broadcasting in 2011. Meaning, GMA Network, Qtv and their future sister channels will be in HD broadcast.
Another rumor is that they will put up a news channel, like CNN, BBC or ANC.
I believe thats part of their expansion for their 60th anniversary next year. (2010)
But I have to praise Studio 23 for the prestige they had given to UAAP and NCAA since they broadcast the games.
I just want to clarify that I'm not into network wars okay?
Besides, I'm not a fan of those cheesy melodramas in the primetime block. I would prefer watching cable channels than those local channels. But I watch GMA network for the news, ONLY for the news. Also a viewer of the ANC most especially "the explainer" and "executive class"
Well, whoever gets the broadcast rights (if ever ABS CBN couldn't get it) They should exceed the expectations of the regular viewers of the league.

i was only able to watch in tv kanina, and im frustrated. tinext ko pa naman yung feu friend ko na manuod today kasi may laban sila today at sinabi ko pang in hd. e wala rin palang hd kasi kahit may sky cable ka, it appears to me na kelangan subscribed ka pa sa mga hd channels.
the opening intro for each game, sinadya ba talaga na puro effects siya para maipakita talaga yung ganda ng hd?
personally, while i do applaud their initiative nila for doing it in hd, mas dapat nila ayusin yung coordination ng camera. nakakainis kasi kanina, nung up - nu game, ang pinakita ba namang score nakalagay feu - adamson tapos hindi tama yung score. and from backreading, it appears that the games' scores yesterday were not updated. tapos nung introduction ng feu starting line up, nakafocus ba naman sa sapatos? nakakainis di ba? and i don't know if it has something to do with the hd thing, pero our tv showed "white sections" in some portions of the game. parang may 3 inch wide vertical bar somewhere in the middle of the screen tapos parang may interference sa audio. paglipat ko naman sa ibang channel, nawala. our tv is hd by the way.

bakit, hindi ba pwede mag-improve ang courtside reporters?!!! even lia cruz, aaron atayde, sharon yu and the rest improved over the years, they had their "moments" during their time, masyado ka naman perpekto, eh nakikinabang din naman ang solar sa mga produkto ng uaap!!!
don't get me wrong ah.., paano naman nadamay ang NBA and PBA graphics sa usapan?
i'm just saying that missing a play or two after the commercials happen even with the pba and the nba!!! it's no big deal as far as i'm concerned because it happens, i just don't know why it's otherwise for some around here!!! hmmm!!!

it's a different case with the start of the pba on solar, the bulk of the complaints came from amongst yourselves, so it's definitely valid as it was not tainted with bias!!!

Apart from giving HD broadcasts, Studio 23 should improve on the quality of the show, i.e. better graphics, analysis and courtside reporting that isn't so scripted. Still, its way better than the PBA.

anti Boom and TJ lang ako sa UAAP booth. swerte nga NCAA may Bill Velasco and the guys from inboundpass.com eh, ang UAAP sus nagtitiyaga kay TJ.

UAAP extends partnership with ABS-CBN
10/04/2009 5:36 PM
MANILA - The University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) has awarded the broadcast rights of the league for the next five years to long-time partner ABS-CBN.
Both parties have agreed in principle and signed the Memorandum of Agreement right before the tip-off of the Game Two of the men's basketball Finals between Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) and University of the East (UE) on Sunday.
UAAP President Anton Montinola and ABS-CBN Chairman Gabby Lopez led the signing in the presence of the league board members and other network officials.
"They have been an excellent partner and we hope to take this partnership to the next level," Montinola said.
ABS-CBN has vowed "to continue to be at the forefront of technology improvement."
"We believe in the UAAP product and we'll do everything to make it better," Lopez said.
The giant television network has gradually improved the marketability of the league since their partnership started in 2000.
This season, Lopez-owned network made history by broadcasting the league's basketball games in high-definition through its SkyCable channel.
Starting next season, ABS-CBN announced that the men's basketball Finals will be broadcasted live on Channel 2, the network's main channel.
The elimination games and the Final Four will still be carried by its youth-oriented channel Studio 23.
Women's volleyball, which was moved from the first semester to the second semester in the UAAP calendar this season, will also enjoy the same coverage with that of men's basketball.
Selected highlights of the non-basketball events will also be shown by the network.
The new contract, which is to be worked out by both parties' legal counsels in the next coming days, will last until 2015.
"We didn't see any reason why we have to break our partnership. Upon long deliberation, the board has unanimously decided to award the rights again to ABS-CBN. We have looked at the plusses and minuses and at the end of the day, they (ABS-CBN) were clearly the winner," Montinola said.
The other networks which bid for the UAAP broadcast rights are GMA Network and Solar Sports.

Pampasarap sa deal yung coverage ng Finals sa channel 2 but it's useless.
How about a new set of color-commentators and analysts? How about resurrecting Jimmy Javier and Joaqui Trillo?
