Market! Market! was recently awarded the prestigious Anvil Award of Merit for Public Relations Programs under the Community Engagement category in the 44th Anvil Awards. The Public Relations Society of the Philippines, organizer of the Anvil Awards, gave its seal of approval to the mall for its successful Tarpaulin Bag promotion conducted in July 2008.
The award was received by Ma. Victoria E. Añonuevo, Senior Vice President and Group Head of the Ayala Malls, Rowena M. Tomeldan, Vice President and COO of Ayala Malls, Charmaine N. Bauzon, Market! Market! General Manager, and Joseph F. Reyes, Market! Market! Deputy General Manager during the awarding ceremonies at the EDSA Shangri-La Hotel last February 20, 2009.
The Market! Market! Tarpaulin bag’s aim was to give a rewarding shopping experience to loyal patrons while addressing its social and environmental responsibility. With the help of Gifts & Graces Fair Trade Foundation, Market! Market’s old and used tarpaulin banners were lovingly crafted by people from urban poor communities and a center for persons with disabilities and transformed into reusable and unique carry-on bags. Not only was the mall able to give rewards to its shoppers while providing livelihood to marginalized communities, used tarpaulin materials were disposed of properly and the use of plastic shopping bags reduced – a testament of Market! Market!’s and Ayala Malls’ commitment to sustainable development and a greener environment.
