i'm limiting this to 86, the year the lions re-joined the NCAA.
1. boybits victoria (1989-1992) - no. 3 overall pick sa 1994 pba draft and led the lions to the 1991 finals against mapua. pba rookie of the year as well.
2. sam ekwe (2006-2008) - nigerian center won rookie of the year, 2 mvp awards and a finals mvp award. more than anything else he electrified local fans with his unique combination of athleticism and power.
3. rensy bajar (1993-1997) - underated pointguard who played in the pbl, mba, pba and in the indonesian basketball league. one of the best pure pointguards the san beda basketball program has produced.
4. ato morano (1991-1995) - from a raw and out of control rookie in 1991 morano developed not only into a red lion star but a national team player, a pbl player, a mba player and a valuable contributor to a champion coke team. chot reyes once called him "the most underpaid" pba player.
5. merwin castelo (1989-1991) and norman gonzales (1996-1997)
castelo di lang pang basketball involved pa sa mga socio-civic activities sa community niya. played for alaska, ginebra and tnt in the pba. was a rare breed of player back then, 6'2 point guard. # 6 overall pick back in 94 sa pba.
gonzales on the other hand played in the mba and has made a career for himself in the pba. one of the more solid role players in the pro ranks.

It is somewhat vague as what your criteria is for the top5 and the honorable mention list.
Pro record? NCAA record? Overall accomplishments?
In this case, why should current pro Aljamal be just an honorable mention when he was Finals MVP of S82, and a vital part of the S83 Champion squad?
Plus Junior 3-peat, Seniors 3peat member, Juniors MVP and S83 Finals MVP Ogie Menor did not even merit an honorable mention.

It's Jeffrey Valeriano. Also, regarding the top Red Lions, it also depende iyan.

Antonio "Tony" Valeriano was the 1991 NCAA Seniors MVP.
Add to Edit: He was part of the 1991 Red Lions team along with Boybits Victoria and Merwin Castelo that reached the 1991 NCAA Finals.

Oh, yeah. I was mistaken. It's Tony Valeriano pala. Jeffrey was trashtalker who played for UST. I STAND CORRECTED.
Other members of that 1991 team were Vincent Largo, "Kabayo" Dionisio, Giovanni "Machete" Manzano, Rommel Saga, Morano, 6'4" Avila, Edwin Manabat, Manucat, Zepeda (a slow 6'3" center), Paul Garcia, etc. Parehong Mapua-San Beda ang naglaban sa juniors at seniors championships.

Hindi ba't senior din yung mataba na overstaying Bedan na si Jamil Espina? Kasabay pa nun sina Randy Salvino.

The big guy Espina even played with boybits victoria during the fianls against mapua. Ang bagal nya at kasing taas ng palito, (nakahigang palito pa), kung tumalon.

Ang pagkakaalam ko ay 3rd year pa lang si Espina nun 1991. Same as Boybits, Dionisio and Merwin.
Nun 1991 finals game 3, lahat halos naka dunk sa round robin. Si Espina lang ang hindi. :D
Ang rookies during the 1991 team were Manucat, Morano, Avila, Saga and Zepeda to name a few. Si Manabat and Manzano ay hindi ko na maalala. Former Red Cub Vincent Largo was the 1991 ROY.
