He is entitled to do that. Sana hindi totoo but kung totoo nga wala tayo magagawa diyan.

He can still play with San Beda as long as di pa siya nakakapaglaro ng isang professional basketball game di ba?

so this is for real
its official now
menor quit the team
the only question though is
which version is the real deal?
the one where mvp reportedly asked beda officials to sack menor?
or the one where menor himself decided to leave on his own?
all because of the sbp contract?
the funny thing is
ogie's not pba material
hello liga filipinas

I think Ogie is a PBA material not just a liga filipinas type of player.
I think Aljamal 4 years lang din nilaro niya dahil gusto niya mag-PBA not sure though.

let me play devil here, if i remember it correctly sometime 2007 or 2008 san beda did not allow ogie menor and pong escobal to join the national team development pool.
this was during the pre toroman era.
i just find it ironic that now that the shoe is on the other foot why (if the reports are to be believed that menor is indeed being pressured by san beda to join the rp team) all the ruckus about menor deciding not to join the team.
to be fair, can't he decide on his own? i mean when san beda decided not to allow him and escobal to play back then were they really consulted? were they asked point blank if they want to play or not?
im just afraid that there's too much double standard in this issue here. its like as if its alright if an institution (a pba team, a pbl team or in this case san beda) makes the go or no go decision but it's totally wrong if individual players themselves make it.
my two cents worth, leave menor alone. he's decided so let's leave it at that.

It is the w/in any player's rights to decide if he wants to play or not. If menor doesn't want to play college ball anymore, it's his choice....

Yes, you're right that it is the player's right and choice to decide for himself, but in a way, it is also his responsibility for the school to render his services to the basketball team especially now that he is the captain and the team needed him the most.

It really comes down to what he values more...If he values pride and honor, he'll most like return to play for the red lions but if he values money more, he'd go pro...He already won multiple championships, he has nothing left to prove.....The fairy tale ending of course would be to come back and try to win another chip as the leader of san beda but the thing is, this is reality...Sometimes, players just value money more...Let's just wait and see...

A SPECTRE of uncertainty haunts what was, just a few months ago, the hotbed for cage prowess in the National Collegiate Athletic Association.
The playing status of San Beda College’s Ogie Menor is now in doubt after the chief gunner decided to waive his final year of eligibility and jump straight to the pros.
inboundpass tried to contact Menor but declined to talk about the matter. San Beda College rector-president Fr. Mateo de Jesus, OSB, also refused to comment and referred inboundpass to team manager Mike Advani, who could not be reached. Moreover, San Beda officials claim that they are yet to receive a formal word from Menor regarding his resignation from the team.
Menor also refused to sign a contract with the Smart Gilas-Philippine Development Team due to disputes with the terms of the agreement.
One school official, who requested anonymity, pointed out that a player can only enter the pros after finishing his tour of duty with the Philippine team. That player’s status as a rookie or free agent is still being discussed, partly because of the salary issue. “I think the SBP has to make arrangements on the salary disparity as soon as a national team member moves on with his life along the basketball hierarchy,” the school official said.
A second source, who did not want to be identified due to the sensitivity of the issue, said that Menor was forced to resign from the Red Lions since he was taking the heat from a high-ranking Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas official due to his decision not to play for the flag.
Prior to his resignation, Menor trained under Serbian coach Rajko Toroman and was part of the team that won the China-ASEAN CBO tiff in Guangxi, China last last December 19, 2008. Menor played alongside collegiate basketball stars Mac Baracael, Mark Barroca, JR Cawaling, Magi Sison, Martin Reyes and Dylan Ababou.

It reminds me of Cardona case when he did not use his final year and went straight to the pros.
Besides 4th year student na din siya and graduating na rin kaya ganun siguro decision niya.

With the Menor issue finally resolved, the team can now move on and prepare for season 85 knowing exactly what they need to do.
Surely, Menor is a big loss but this is also an opportunity for Gamalinda and Lanete to get significant playing time and show us what they got. *okay*
Anyway, thank you Ogie for the 6 championships you helped bring to Mendiola.

There are many other collegiate superstars before who skipped their 5th year. Among them were Mike Cortez, Mac Cardona and now Rico Maierhofer.
With the current global financial crisis, mahirap ang pera ngayon. Anyways, the players mentioned above including Menor have gave their school so much and its time to move up to a higher level, the PBA.

Goodluck to Ogie Menor, I know he served SBC very well during his 4 yr stint with the Red Lions. By the way James Yap during his stint with the UE Red Warriors in UAAP also skip his last year and went staright to the PBA. Its a reality that sometimes an athlete has to move on and maximixed his market value. its ok Ogie you made a good decision for yourself, for your future and for your family.
GOD Bless you always

He is just making a comparison about playing years since Ogie opted to go pro in his 5th year. He can relate because their player in SSC could've played for his 5th year too. It's not exactly off-topic since we're still in the realm of collegiate basketball. ;)
