Hello to everyone. I would like to conduct a survey for our research paper in english. I hope that you can help me. The survey goes:
Where do you do research often: the library or the internet? Why?
Please specify if you're still a student. Thank you.

so for thorough research, i would still prefer going to a library, which has updated and huge catalog of books and printed materials, to get the info that i need.

Of course, library.
During my time, which is not too long ago, I frequent the three libraries in UST to research.

Thank you for your reply. I would still like to ask people to take at least a minute to answer this. I really need your help. I need at least 30 people to reply. Thanks.

kids don't read anymore, that's why it's almost useless talking to them in person. but they make good posters and chatmates, thanks to google.

I would say both of them. Go to the internet and to the library. If you are a member of any library onlilne, much better. If not, better go to your school/university library. Both will give you better research materials for your paper.

I suggest you also conduct this survey in person (with questionnaires, etc). I have a hunch the findings will be different between the two groups. You might need more than 30 respondents to make the results statistically significant, but you might have some interesting conclusions with whatever little data you have.

I would do a focus group.
first set of 2 group with 8 people (students) is okay, however, ofcourse the bigger the better. if those two groups says internet - internet; then definitely its an internet. However, if its internet - library; then this is when you look for your third group in order to determine the reliability of internet vs library. if youre making your data easier, do a lot of close-ended questions, then two for open ended. so you can analyze their data as your generalization.

Library. During our time, we do our research at National Library and at UP. We do search the internet, but we don't trust it 100%.
Oh, I am a student no more.

^ Our teacher told us few days ago na mas useful talaga ang book kasi very reliable ito, unlike the internet.
So, library for me. Though, nakakatamad maghanap ng books. Pero I love the smell of old books. :bop:

library syempre.
but i also use the internet a lot. lalo na nung undergrad. pero sa simula lang pwede yung ganun, para lang may overview ako ng gusto kong i-research.
in legal research i also use the internet a lot, lalo na sa paghahanap ng cases at laws, most of which can be found online. of course i do my research in the library first. dapat alam mo na kung ano hinahanap mo bago ka magpunta sa internet. i look for cases in the scra quick index or velayo's digest for older cases (haha may gumagamit pa ba nito?). or i look for cases repeatedly cited by other authors. then when i've listed down the case citations, dun ko na hinahanap sa net using lawphil or the supreme court website. it's quicker that way because then i won't have to carry scra volumes around or have the cases photocopied. and if i cite the doctrines, i won't have to retype anything. just copy then paste.
pag foreign cases, inaamin ko talaga sa westlaw ako unang kumokonsulta haha. why? because it's even more comprehensive than the actual volumes that we have in the library. and andun na lahat, cases, cjs, amjur, foreign journals, etc. and it's easier to use too.
btw, i'm still a student.

It really depends kung ano ba ang hinahanap mo. (business, economic, legal, literary, behavioral, etc.) It's a matter of time factor na rin. Hindi naman sa pagkatamad ang internet lang ng internet, people have to be resourceful and the internet is the most convenient way. You always have to filter the data youve gathered. Kaya nga you always have to site where you get your data e.
Kailangan mo ring makita kung effective ba ang means na iyon to properly conclude with the findings.
Anyway, I think your survey is flawed, unless your target population are the active pexers. Conduct your survey elsewhere, not here in Pex. Not to be rude though, but I think, eto ang trabahong tamad. Hahaha.
I just finished my undergrad... currently miss being a student. Hehehe.

Oh yeah in addition to this, make sure the websites you are using are reliable...as there are some criteria you have to consider when using a website....

I am a Political Science graduate. I used to conduct researches in the library but to get hold of online journals or articles.... Most of the resources I used in papers were online journals... So to answer your question, Internet :bashful:

gosh you guys are right. i'm working on a group paper for one of my classes. i didn't realize that so many people have library phobia. and to my shock and disbelief, there are actually law students who are waaaaaay past their freshman year who have no idea what CJS is.
medyo OT pero related din sa research, very few people outside college research classes take citation styles seriously. parenthetical referencing is ok for papers back in undergrad. in legal research, footnotes are used. and personally, i prefer the latter. i'm more used to it as most ponentes use footnotes. maybe there is something in the way college research classes are taught that makes many people scared of footnotes. masyado raw burdensome (which i find ridiculous since other citation styles require about the same amount of effort). eh nandyan na naman lahat ng manuals and in most cases straightforward naman yung application ng rules.
haaay.

Books (library) most of the time. Be it for an english essay or for thesis. But since I was taking up a science course, it was also necessary for us to research online for research publications.
So yeah, library and online journals (if you consider that as internet researching).

But as technology change our way of finding information, I'd say that the days of the library as we know it will be gone, especially that new information is more easily disseminated over the internet. Not that I'm saying na mawawala ang library, but I foresee that internet and the conventional library will be intertwined.
Library and internet is just a wordplay for repository of data.
I have to agree though, it's naive at best for a researcher to just rely on one.
