Please provide feedback about other law schools aside from the big names of ateneo, up, beda, ust, and arellano.
What do you think about the likes of san sebastian, feu, lyceum, etc. in terms of quality of education, teaching materials, tuition fees, etc..
i'm contemplating on taking up law and budget is one major factor weighing heavy on my decision.
Thanks!

I believe PLM and JRU law schools are still under 20K per sem.
PUP law school, the newest kid on the block ay P500 per unit yata?
Adamson - 12%
UE -14%
JRU - 25%
PUP - 25%
SSC-30%
FEU-32%
Arellano -39%
PLM - 40%
UST - 58%
AdDavao- 68%
UP-Diliman -76%
AdMU- 90%
SBC-93%

@skysdlimit
you know other people would just enroll themselves in cheaper law schools in order to earn their law degree.
and when it comes to bar review programs, they would opt for the review programs of the big ones like AdMU.

1.SSC (Sebastian) current fees: aapprox. P25k
per unit = P1195
misc. fee = P3345
energy fee = starts at P300
seminar 1&2 =P2800 (afaik, only sectarian law schools ang may seminar like SBC, UST, SSC, Arellano etc.)
2.UE current fees: approx. P30k
per unit = P1623
misc. fee = P5296
installment fee = P300
ID= P300
3.PLM: subsidized (with annual budget amounting to millions!) kasi ng Local Government of Manila ang mag expsenses nila. they prioritized Manila residents with (either free or discounted tuition) pero non-Manila residents can enter as paying students. medyo malufet lang sa PLM kasi students need to maintain GWA of 85% or else bye-bye!
4.Arrellano:
per unit = P1800 (first year to 4th year unless changed by admin)
executive class with 16 units-
32,670 - 10% discount for full payment
35,550 - installment of P7060's
regular class with 20 units-
39180 - 10% discount for full payment
42,780 -installment of P8500's
by phone inquiries:
5. UST approx. P30-35k
6. JRU approx. P20k
7. FEU approx. P30-40K
8. Lyceum approx. P30-40k
9. MLQU approx. P40k
hay ang mamahal! :mecry:

In all honesty do you think an auditor from SGV (we all know how demanding the work can be at SGV) can survive UP Law? or any Law school for that matter, considering time and finances.
thanks for the inputs guys!

The San Beda Law student body has a lot of UP, Ateneo, La Salle, and UST grads, so students from those schools usually don't have difficulty "fitting in" and approximate the same competitive atmosphere found in UP or Ateneo Law.

Fitting in is not really my concern.
I can fit in wherever I go.
I need to go to a law school which offers reasonable fees without compromising quality.
I believe that even if becoming a lawyer depends on the person, the law institution still plays a very important part.

sa pagkakaalam ko, ang other law schools mentioned here with low passing rates, have more examinees, and di masyado mahigpit sa tanggalan, but by raw number, marami rami din ang passers nila. although big factor ang school, na sa sa tao na nga siguro yun.

Would it be hard? Yes.
Is it possible? YES.
Do I know someone who is doing the exact same thing now? YES.

diba ang reason kung bakit sa DLSU ang bar exams ay dahil ito ang pinaka malapit sa supreme court? not really due to the fact na wala itong law school? correct me if i'm wrong. :)

Feb 25, 2009, 10:32 PM
Hi TS, I know your thread mentioned Arellano as 1 of the schools you were NOT asking about. I hope you don't mind me posting this update. :)
Trisem for the executive class starts this May. The maximum # of units per sem is 12. The miscellaneous will be the same divided into 3semesters. You may call 404 30 89 for more updates.

yes, ok naman ang arellano for working studes.
i heard some SBC professors ay nagtransfer na sa arellano. at saka usually, sa arenallo pumupunta ang mga 'kick out' ng SBC, AdMU and UP, so bale tinatapos nila yung law studies nila doon.
anyways, hanggang april yata yung admission exams nila tuwing saturday. just bring their requirements and pay their exam fee sa araw mismo ng exam.
gusto ko sana sa arellano kaso sobrang layo naman at saka P1.8k per unit (40K+ per sem) is simply too much for me.
working people may want to consider taking up their law studies in cheaper law schools like PLM, SSC, JRU and PUP.
@richard24

6 questions in 1 hour. natapos ko siya ng maayos naman, kaso mas nakakatakot kasi we dont know kung ano ba ang hinahanap nila sa essay., :(

for PLM, try calling up these numbers 5277941-50 (tell them to connect you their college of law). the last na nag-inquire ako hindi ako inentertain nung babae dahil marami daw sya ginagawa at pinapuputa na lang ako. at nung pumunta naman ako, nagkaligaw-ligaw ako sa may city hall ng Manila at bandang intramuros, kaya dumerecho na lang ako ng Arellano University.
anyway, pumunta ako sa PUP last week. sorry pero masyadong magulo ang environment at may nagpapapatugtog pa doon ng pagkalakas-lakas a may entrance. kaya hindi na ako nag-apply for the entrance exam sa PUP.
bwt, doon sa mga interested sa mag-aral ng law sa JRU this whole March lang daw sila mag-aaccept ng application for incoming 1st yr. law studes at yung SSC, UE, FEU, Arellano and UST ay ongoing pa rin.
good luck sa ating lahat. :D

prayer is the answer... you can pass it pa naman... what matters is the eagerness to study law and not the school... ;)

University of San Carlos in Cebu is a very underrated Law School.
I think magaling na law school yan - lalaban sa ADMU/UP/SBC. Met some lawyers from that law school and I'm impressed :)

^^ election season sa PUP nung pumunta ka. naturally, yun ang pinaka magulong time of the year samin. :) (partido namin yung nagpapatugtog sa catwalk, Kilos! PUP., hehehe :) )
the college of law is generally peaceful, sa basement kasi sya ng main library.

requirements sa PLM:
# A General Weighted Average (GWA) of at least 2.00 (85%) in the bachelor’s degree
# Applicants must have earned:
(18) units of English
(6) units of Mathematics
(18) units of Social Science subjects.
Applicants lacking units must satisfy these requirements during summer before they are allowed admission
# Certification of the Barangay Chairman that the applicant is a bonafide resident of Manila and voter of Manila (for Manila Scholars or non-paying students only). Non-Residents of Manila may apply as a paying student
# Official Transcript of Records (TOR) from a recognized university or college
# Applicant’s residence certificate (CEDULA) limampiso lang ata to...
# Income tax return of applicant or applicant’s parent from the year prior to the date of application.
# Two (2) recent passport size, identical colored photos.
# A letter of recommendation from the Dean or Head of former school
# Performance in the PLM College of Law Admission Test
I took up LAE, and I took up this last requirement... and im telling you... nagmukhang basang sisiw yung LAE as compared to this exam...
the only thing is sobrang dami ng nag aaply sa LAE... around 3 to 4 thousand nationwide...
dito mga 500 lang kayo... ang makukuha for the first sem is mga 40 students...
during the first week expect nyo na may matatanggal agad...
after the first sem mga 30 na lang kayo...
after the first year mga 20 plus na lang...
mag babar kayo kokonti lang kayo... ehehehehe which might be good or bad kasi mas focused mga profs nyo kung onti lang kayo...
Most profs are from ATENEO and UP...
expect a lot of PRESSURE! and TERROR!!!
hope it helps...

wahaha KILOS!
you may call up JRU (632) 531-8031 to 35.
transferee kasi ako from SBC-Law (naka-1 sem lang ako dun) kaya maraming hiningi, 1.5x1.5, TOR, Honorable Dismissal x2, etc. for the exam...hindi na ako tumuloy.

the upside with the "more" expensive and excellent schools is the environment just allows you to be more competitive. It really unleashes that spirit in you. Siempre dami magagaling ang mga classmates complete with all the materials, kaya the tendency is to strive more.
Pero kung hindi kaya ang tuition don, I suggest that you try others other than Arellano. Arell is too expensive. Kaya lang naman naging mahal yan kasi they accept kick outs and accept all the credits even the failing grades of the kick out. At kaya lang naman medyo ok ang passing rate kasi na train na mga newly transferred students from the previous schools.
But if you havent started law yet and you want low tuition, dami dyan like baste, lyceum, plm, ue, feu. (jru still not in the league)
